PDHPE involves the community around children such as the
parents, teachers, carers , family and friends.
PDHPE is one of the six learning areas in the NSW primary
curriculum.

development health and physical education.

of obesity have risen in many
countries around the
world, including Australia.
Research indicates that
many children do not meet
basic healthy eating
recommendations.
The survey found
that nearly three
out of 10 (28.9%)
children were
overweight or
obese
• Obese children and adolescents suffer from an increased range of
medical conditions. For example, the rate of Type 2 diabetes is
increasing in children and adolescents. Other problems include sleep
disturbances, heat intolerance, breathlessness when active, tiredness
and flat feet. Obese children, particularly older girls, also tend to have
lower self esteem.
