Why is this such an epidemic among our
children today?
Obesity, creates serious complications to their
overall health, which include, diabetes, high
levels of cholesterol and blood pressure.
When these unhealthy habits manifest
themselves in children, they grow up to be
unhealthy adults as well, leading an unhealthy
lifestyle.
5.
Now is the time to turn this around and
change things for the future and one main
factor of achieving this is through physical
education at school and healthy eating and
exercise habits at home as well.
Parents should make sure to lead by example
and make sure your children eat healthy and
are physically active at school.
6.
Encourage children to participate in sports,
says Travis Burhop, a devoted and focused
physical education instructor and a visionary
who has changed lives with his knowledge.
Children need structure and a platform to fuel
their energy, and sports can do that.
7.
Keep children away from sugar and junk food.
If you’re working and is a busy parent make
sure to cook or pick up healthy meals for the
entire family.
Besides eating healthy can also make you and
your family feel energetic and rejuvenated as
well.
8.
Another element that paves its way towards
childhood obesity is the lack of physical
activities in a child’s day.
For instance, make sure the child participates
in extra-curricular activities than being hooked
on technology and video games. You can easily
find a young child, opting for a video game as
opposed to playing a sport.
9.
Some schools give less prominence to physical
education and more to academic excellence.
But make no mistake, physical education can
enhance and nurture a student’s academic
performance drastically, as it teaches them to
be physically active, focused, engaged and
increase concentration and self confidence.
10.
Physical education also enhances behavior,
discipline, and social cohesion in children.
Awareness is all that is needed for physical
education to bear fruit in our children and beat
childhood obesity.
