Rationale for teaching Personal
Development, Health and Physical
  Education In primary schools
Why do we teach PDHPE?

PDHPE is Personal Development, Health and Physical
                         Education.
PDHPE is taught in primary schools across Australia to promote
                healthy and active lifestyles.
Teaching PDHPE prepares and shapes the lives of Australian
                 children and their futures.
PDHPE in primary school education develops in each
student the knowledge and understanding, skills, values and
attitudes needed to lead healthy, active and fulfilling lives.

This is done through the areas of Active Lifestyle, Dance,
Games and Sports, Growth and Development, Personal
Health Choices, Interpersonal Relationships, Gymnastics and
                       Safe Living.
Through the study of PDHPE, students benefit
physically, mentally, socially and emotionally by:

* Gaining an understanding of themselves and their peers.

 * Being involved in physical activity, promoting a healthy
                         lifestyle.

* Developing decision making skills to assist in everyday life.
PDHPE aims to:
Promote a healthy and active lifestyle that will provide a range of
health benefits now and for the future. As inactive children with an
unhealthy diet are more likely to risk facing obesity.
To encourage the understanding and valuing of oneself and others.
Increasing the chances of positive responses and acknowledgment
                           of feelings.
Place emphasis on informed decision making, guiding children to
efficient and responsible actions. Supporting children in making
informed decisions about factors that can effect their wellbeing and
                      the wellbeing of others.
