Altamira cave is located in northern Spain in the region of Cantabria. The cave contains some of the earliest known cave paintings created by Cro-Magnon people around 35,000 years ago, including paintings of pregnant animals, hands, and humans. The paintings were not discovered until 1868 by local hunter Modesto Cubillas. In 1985, the cave paintings were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site due to their artistic and historic significance as some of the earliest examples of prehistoric art.
