An archaeologist and his young daughter discovered prehistoric cave paintings in Altamira Cave near Santillana del Mar, Spain in 1879. The drawings depict mostly bison in various positions as well as horses, red deer, and boar painted in almost life-size scale. Some drawings also show humans with animal heads and symbols like hands and steps.
