Sexual reproduction in angiosperms involves male and female gametes produced by flowers. The male part, the stamen, produces pollen grains in the anther. The female part, the carpel, contains the stigma, style and ovary with one or more ovules containing female gametes. Pollination is the transfer of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma, which can be self-pollination within the same flower or cross-pollination between different flowers. Fertilization occurs when the male gametes from the pollen tube fuse with the female gamete in the ovule, forming a zygote.
