The four inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. They are small, dense planets composed mainly of rock and metal. Mercury is the smallest planet and closest to the Sun. Venus is similar in composition to Earth but has a dense carbon dioxide atmosphere. Earth is the largest of the inner planets and the only known planet able to support life. Mars is around half the size of Earth and has a thin atmosphere of carbon dioxide.
