Beauty Essay
Definition of Beauty The word beauty is defined as, A combination of qualities, such as shape,
color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially sight (en.oxforddictionaries.com). In
this day and age, people, women especially, are being pressured more and more to keep up with
this image that society says women should look like. The idea of a perfect woman today is
comprised of clear skin, perfectly shaped eyebrows, straight white teeth, and a small waist with
an oversized butt and breasts. There are plenty of women who may have all of the qualities just
mentioned, but there are also many women who don t have any of them. What people don t
realize is there is no right or wrong way to look. As new generations arise, ideas... Show more

After several women, the artist is finished and he hangs up all of the work he had drawn. On the
left, he hangs the drawing of the woman describing herself. On the right, is the drawing of the
woman being described by the stranger. When the artist reveals the two, the women immediately
look disappointed in the drawing on the left. The drawings look sad, mean, and/or lifeless. When
they look to the right, they are pleasantly surprised with the beauty that those drawings possess.
This is when the artist tells them that that drawing was done based on another individual s idea
of her. Many of the women are touched by this and realize that other people don t see them the
way they do. Complete strangers can see the beauty in all of the different colors, shapes, and
forms of these women, yet they have trouble looking past the features that stand out negatively, as
do many people, including men. The video titled You Look Disgusting was made by a woman, Em
Ford, who started experimenting with her image and what she revealed to the world via social
media. Three months prior to posting this video, she started posting pictures of herself on social
media without any makeup on. For most females, this can be scary territory. Over the course of
those three months she received shocking comments. There were more than 100,000 people that
had made some sort of comment, either positive or negative,

Essay about Developing My Critical Thinking Skills
Given the especially large number of students you see each semester, I don t expect any
recollection of my presence in your COMM150 class I certainly wasn t an exemplary enough
student to have left any lasting memories (which is both good and bad). But I wanted to share
with you a small anecdote, because four years later I ve realized that your class served as an
important catalyst in the development of my critical thinking abilities.
As a freshmen at the Altoona campus, I took your class on a whim because I needed a Comm
class. Of course I was confident (re: cocky) in my abilities, so I didn t study for exams and ended
up in a bad place part way through the semester. That s when you offered an extra credit assignment

Do the Right Thing is a 1989 film by Spike Lee. According to Entertainment Weekly, it is one of
the 25 most controversial films ever. It was deemed culturally significant by the Library of
Congress in 1999, and then placed in the National Film Registry. The story follows the lives of
citizens of the Bedford Stuyvesant District in New York City, on the hottest day of the summer,
and what they do to cope with the heat. To summarize the entire plot it ends in a riot. I d like to
analyze some of the situations found in the movie, and discuss how, if at all, it related to race
relations in America. When watching the film, I wasn t overly interested in the plot. Nothing
interesting happened (until the end of the movie) and there was nothing that made me (as a
viewer) intrigued to continue watching. What I found important, however, was the character
portrayals in the movie, and this is what kept me watching. I m not sure what Lee wanted from
this movie, because to me, it seemed as if he was being a) overtly racist towards non African
Americans, and b) stereotypical of his own race. Throughout the movie I was astounded by the
portrayal of the black characters in this movie. Specifically, Buggin Out s character. While I
realize that the character s name is a direct reference to his personality, I think Lee went a bit too
far. For example, when the white cyclist accidentally scuffed his

Gold Rush Challenges
Being a gold prospector during the Gold Rush was inarguably one of the most challenging
obstacles a human being could ever face. Some might even consider the lengths people were
willing to go to for gold rather reckless and idiotic because of how menacing these obstacles
were. The challenges that people during the Gold Rush faced, while somewhat incomprehensible
to people now, was an extremely important goal to people in the 1800 s. In the articles Race to the
Klondike and All About the Klondike Gold Mines , these challenges are thoroughly described and
include examples of how people lived during the Gold Rush, one of the most terrifying journeys in
history. In the article Race to the Klondike , the author goes in explicit detail about the mind
boggling challenges faced during the Gold Rush, including the treacherous journey. The travel was
arguably the most gruelling part of the Gold Rush, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People that were inclined to look for gold were forced to make beds in the numbing cold of the
snow, which made for unfortunate living conditions. The food had to be carefully looked after
so that it was not eaten by animals, and when it turned dark it was mandatory to tie their food up
in trees. Forgetfulness would not be tolerated when it came to looking after your food because if
you forgot to tie it up, even once, you would face starvation or have to turn back and abandon
your aspiration to locate gold. The journey felt like an extensively long time, and they had to
make camp often because of the heavy luggage that was impossible to bear for excessive periods
of time. These situations were bound to turn anybody weary and, from an outsider s perspective,
even be enough for a person to desert your ambition of finding riches completely, but people in the
past managed to endure these problems, despite them being some of the hardest challenges ever

Real World Vs Crucible
The Crucible Compared to the Real World Piers Anthony once said, When one person makes an
accusation, check to make sure that he himself is not the guilty one. Sometimes it is those whose
case is weak who make the most clamour. Everybody has been accused of doing something that
they have not at some point in their life. Being blamed for something that one was not responsible
for happens during adulthood just as much as it does during childhood. False accusations are not
uncommon in today s society. As matter of fact, they ve been prevalent throughout all of history.
The Crucible is a play in which three girls are accused of witchcraft. The play is based on the time
of the SalemWitch Trials. Comparatively, this was a time in history where... Show more content on

One of the most prevalent cases of false accusation is a woman arraigning a man for rape.
Biurny Peguero s case is a perfect example. A woman named Biurny Peguero decided to frame a
man named William McCaffery, who was a construction worker at the time. Peguero told law
enforcement that she was sexually assaulted by three men, only mentioning McCaffery. She
utilized the bite marks on her body that she received from a night out with her girl friends to
claim that McCaffery caused them. After the night out, she asked the three men to give her a
ride back to her friends. McCaffery and the other two men did just that, without touching her.
She received the bite marks from her friends, because when she returned to her friends, all of
them broke out in a ridiculous brawl. Edicio Martinez of CBS News wrote that, But upon the
returning of her friends the argument that began in the Umbrella Lounge escalated into a full
fledged fight. The women punched and bit at each other and when she asked why she was so
upset and if those boys raped you, she simply agreed, to try and explain her behavior (Martinez).

Gratification And How It Is Learned
In the textbook the authors talk about delay of gratification and how it is learned. The authors
refer to delay of gratification as controlling impulsive reactions for long term benefits (Cervone
Pervin, 2013). They relate delay of gratification to self control due to the fact that delaying
gratification generally means putting off something enjoyable in the present in order to get
something even better in the future (Cervone Pervin, 2013). For example, not going to your
friend s house tonight so that you can practice the speech you have tomorrow in your English
class so you can get a better grade. The textbook also posits that there are two components to
delays of gratification. The first component is the impulsive desire to get a reward, and the
second component is the cognitive tactics that people use to avoid acting on that impulse
(Cervone Pervin, 2013). Research in the area of social cognitive theory even shows that children
can learn to withstand greater delays of gratification when they witness models displaying such
delay behavior (Cervone Pervin, 2013). The textbook also talks about self efficacy, which was a
component in this particular study. Self efficacy can be defined as an individual s perceptions
about their own capabilities for performing some act in the future (Cervone Pervin, 2013). It has
been found that self efficacy perceptions impact various types of behavior that are essential for
human achievement (Cervone Pervin, 2013). Self efficacy

Planning And Managing Their Information Systems Architecture
INTRODUCTION
As any city depends on a functioning infrastructure, companies operating in a digital world are
relying on a comprehensive information systems infrastructure to support their business processes
and competitive strategy. With increasing speed, the transactions are conducted.
Analyzed similarly occupied, and with the increasing amount of data to collect, the companies plan
well and the biggest returns on investment to their information systems in order to manage their
infrastructure needs.
When planning and managing their information systems architecture, organizations will answer
many important and difficult questions.
For example:
How will we utilize information systems to enable our competitive strategy?
What technologies and systems best support our core business processes?
Which vendors should we partner with, which technologies do we adopt, and which do we avoid?
What hardware, software, or services do we buy, build, or have managed by an outside service
provider?
How can the organization get the most out of the data captured from internal and external sources?
How can the organization best ensure that the infrastructure is reliable and secure?

Ambition And Murderous Intent In Macbeth By William...
Macbeth is a tragic play written by Shakespeare that dramatizes tragic flaw of ambition and
murderous intent in Macbeth, which is manipulated by his equally ambitious wife and the
inherently evil witches. This leads him to murder King Duncan.
The first impression of Macbeth portrays him as a war hero who, ironically, has a strong distaste
in traitors and disloyalty in the dialogue spoken by Captain For brave Macbeth well he deserves that
name disdaining fortune, with his brandished steel, which smoked with bloody execution, like a
valour s minion carved out his passage till he faced the slave, which ne er shook hands, nor bade
farewell to him, till he unseamed him from the navel to th chaps and fixed his head upon our
battlements. His violent and graphic actions which shows his allegiance to the king, ironically, also
shows the readers that he is merciless and bloodthirsty when he is ambitious. This reveals a latent
murderous aspect to his personality.
When Macbeth says in Act 1, Scene 7 I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only
vaulting ambition which o erleaps itself and falls on the other clearly conveys that his only
motivation is ambition despite knowing that it makes him act blindly. Evidently, it... Show more

Menopause Case Summary
The goals of treatments for L.L. are to prevent or reduce vasomotor symptoms associated with her
menopause and to stop or slow the progression of osteoporosis. It is also important to improve her
control of hypothyroidism.
If the patient doesn t present contraindications to therapy and predisposing disease or risks that
would increase the likelihood of an adverse event, I would recommend L.L. hormone replacement
therapy (HRT) for her postmenopausal symptoms and bone loss. A consensus statement made by

is unable to tolerate hormone therapy, I would suggest antidepressants to treat her vasomotor
symptoms. Both selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and serotonin norepinephrine
reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), which target neurotransmitters involved in the hypothalamic
thermoreguration center, have been found to reduce both the severity and frequency of hot flashes
(Dickson, 2012). Venlafaxine, desvenlafaxine, and paroxetine have been found to provide the best
vasomotor symptom relief among these drug classes. Alendronate sodium is approved by the
FDA for the prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis (Cosman et al., 2014).
These antiresorptive agents work by inhibiting osteoclast mediated bone resorption, which leads to
an indirect increase in bone mineral density (Maxwell, Maclayton, Nguyen, 2008). It is also
important to assess L.L. s vitamin D level and correct it if necessary. Vitamin D is essential for the
absorption of calcium, and it helps regulate calcium and phosphorus metabolism. Calcium and
vitamin D in combination have a distinct effect on bone physiology (Maxwell et al., 2008). The
combination of supplemental calcium and vitamin D may be beneficial for L.L. to improve her bone

2.2Proteins involved in Contractile machinery out of India.
2.2.1Actin Actin was first observed experimentally by Halliburton (1887), who extracted a protein
from muscle that coagulated preparations of myosin that he called myosin ferment . Straub
(1942) developed a novel technique for extracting muscle protein that allowed to isolate
substantial amounts of relatively pure actin. This protein existed in two forms: globular actin (G
actin) that was stable in the absence of salt, and in the presence of ions it polymerized to form

In Alice Walker s story Nineteen Fifty Five there are numerous characters in which the reader

spoken by Gracie Mae but it depicts Traynor s life in an indirect way. In looking at the story from
a modern view this can be compared to the rise and fall of a celebrity as well as well known
celebrities today and their issues that can described using this story. Whether Alice Walker
portrayed Traynor as Elvis is unclear to most, there is a very strong connection. Elvis Presley s

stable foundation and that he is also attempting to discover the meaning of Gracie Mae s song
but hasn t learned anything. And then it s learned that Traynor had married and divorced 14
women and was currently married to his 15th. There is no exact explanation given for the
numerous marriages and divorces but from my perspective the women all may have had some
type of trait that Traynor temporarily wanted and as time went on he fell out of love because
they were not what he had really desired. The connection he has with Gracie Mae has survived a
couple of decades and she may be exactly what he wants in a woman but can t find that in
anyone else. In Gracie Mae s dream Traynor says, You marry em for no reason but there was a
reason, one he may not have comprehended. And in a brief portion of the story we see a letter

Stokely Carmichael Black Power
What is Black Power? Black power is a movement lead by Stokely Carmichael which promoted
the idea of black empowerment and creating a community where blacks feel comfortable in. It
implies self determination and self motivation. This means blacks should not rely on white
authority to fix racial issues but rather take matters into their own hands. It is a call for blacks to
define their own goals. This was not only meant as freedom from white authority but also as
economical and political independence. In this way Black Power was taking control of the
future of blacks in both economical and political ways and establishing a community in which
they will not have to suffer living as second class citizens. Black power also encouraged blacks to
have pride in their racial heritage and be proud to be black. A way of promoting this was by
using the slogan Black is Beautiful , to get people to see the beauty of being black and not to be
ashamed of their prominent black features. Stokely Carmichael encouraged this form of Black
Pride by saying... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

major loss of support from the Federal Government. This support was essential as being a liberal,

had brought down many decisions in favour of the Civil Rights Movement so to threaten them in
this way, was in his opinion, unwise. King was also aware that white liberals would lose
sympathy towards the Civil Rights Movement due to the violent, overpowering connotations Black
Power portrayed. King was sure the emergence of Black Power could alienate the white support
which he believed was needed. This made him fearful of how Black Power would affect future
direction of the Civil Rights Movement and made him not at ease with the

The Transformation of Gilgamesh Depicted in The Epic of...
Gilgamesh struggled to establish moral principle. His personality at first was an arrogant, self
centered tyrant ; he was described by Enkidu His teeth are dragon s fangs, his countenance is like
a lion his charge is the rushing of the flood... (pg. 16 line 3 6). But towards the end of this epic
narrative Gilgamesh switched over to a more humble and sincere person. This adjustment in
Gilgamesh s behavior shows his modesty and the morality throughout the story.
At first, Gilgamesh was seen as an oppressor to his people. He was known to be among the best of
creation; as stated in the prolouge When the gods created Gilgamesh they gave him a perfect

This king saw himself more superior to his people, and he was filled with pride.
His personality starts changing after he defeated Humbaba, who was causing havoc in the society.
After he kills him this changes the views of the people in his city and he becomes loved. He did a
great deed for his people, and he felt very gratifying about it. Although this played a role in his
personality shift, the turning point occurred after death of Enkidu. After his death Gilgamesh was
grieving intensly, by this the reader can infer that he is humbling himself.
Gilgamesh knew that Enkidu was just as magnificent as himself, so after his death When
Gilgamesh knew death was around the corner he did not enjoy worldly pleasures, thus making him
more god fearing.
Another interesting point is when Gilgamesh called upon god O glorious Shamash, I have followed
the road you commanded but now if you send no succor how shall I escape? (p.17 lines 33
34).This exemplifies the fact that Gilgamesh needs divine help, Gilgamesh is not satisfied with his
own strength and abilities thus calls upon god in humility. The last occurance that proves
Gilgamesh s personality shift is when he decided to bring the plant back to Uruk. He wanted the
old men to eat it first so they can be rejuvenated, and then he would take part of it last. In
conclusion, Gilgamesh s personality and outlook on life changes completely throughout the story. It
shows that no matter how strong an epic

Native American And African Slaves
As the Native American population had been decimated by genocide and war, England looked to
African slaves to provide them with the necessary labor to harvest tobacco. Although African
slaves had the same status as that of an indentured servant, African slaves began to become more
and more restricted, losing all human and civil rights. These restrictions were placed on African
slaves to protect the rights of the indentured Englishmen, and developed a social/political system
based of segregation and discrimination, ultimately leading to the modern ideology of the world,
racism. Native Americans were not spared from the stupidity of racial superiority, and like
Africans, were forced into slavery. Native American slavery though predominately in the Spanish
colonies was used in North America. Though unlike the Mesoamerican slaves, the North American
slaves were also the slavers. The colonists of North America lured Native Americans to capture
other Native Americans in exchange for trade goods and alliances, forcing Native Americans to
choose between being the slaver or the slaved, much like some African tribes. In South America, the
Spaniards enticed nearly 100,000 under false promises of riches, and instead enslaved them, forcing
them to harvest guano (bird excrements), an export from Peru that had a value of fifteen billion
dollars. As slavery spread throughout the New World, much of the African, Chinese, and indigenous

Essay on The Changes In Medicine In The Nineteenth Century
The Changes In Medicine In The Nineteenth Century
The nineteenth century was one of the most important eras in the history of medicine as many new
cures and technologies were discovered. At the beginning, many poor people still lived in houses
without proper sanitation, worked in dangerous factories and drank water from polluted rivers.
By the end of the century, social conditions had improved, medicine was more complex, treatments
were more widely offered and technology was more advanced along with many other
improvements. But why did these changes occur? What caused them? Why did they occur during
the nineteenth century and not before.
During the nineteenth century, Britain became the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This report recommended that the government should organise proper drainage and refuse
collection, provide a pure water supply and appoint a Medical Officer of Health. However, these
changes were not implemented until thirty years later when Parliament finally agreed.
There were a number of reasons why the government s view of health conditions in towns
changed in the 1870 s. The health in towns was still very bad and there were a number of cholera
epidemics, including the famous one where Dr. John Snow linked cholera to polluted water. In
1861, Pasteur proved that germs cause decay. It was Robert Koch who linked the germ theory
and disease with actual proof in 1878, a few years after the Second Public Health Act had been
passed, but many people believed that he was right before he proved it. One of the most
important reasons was that in 1867, the vote was given to all male householders. Before, it had
just been the rich that had voted. The rich lived in the towns, owned houses where disease was
kept to a minimum and lived, on average, twenty five years longer than the urban working class.
The Public Health Act was extremely successful and by the end of the century almost all towns had
hygienic sewers and water systems.
The Industrial Revolution meant that the government was more aware of the health of ordinary
people and they tried to make

Hamlet Essay
Hamlet Each major character of Shakespeare s Hamlet has a major flaw, which destroys him or
her. The King, Queen, Hamlet, Ophelia, and Polonius all have these flaws but Horatio does not. He
is Shakespeare s ideal man.
Claudius fatal flaw is ambitiousness. Claudius kills his brother King Hamlet and then takes the
throne by marrying King Hamlet s wife: Therefore our sometime sister, now our queen...have we
(as twere with a defeated joy, with an auspicious and a dropping eye, with mirth in funeral and
with dirge in marriage, in equal scale weighing delight and dole) taken to wife (I.ii.10 14).

King: Gertrude, do not drink.
Queen: I will, my lord; I pray you pardon me. [She drinks]
King: [aside] It is the poisoned cup. It is too late...
Queen: No, no, the drink, the drink! O, my dear
Hamlet! The drink, the drink! I am poisoned.
Hamlet s passivity is his flaw. The deceased King Hamlet s ghost tells Hamlet to get revenge:
Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder (I.v.31) and by telling him this he misses the
opportunity to kill King Claudius: Now might I do it *pat*, now he is a praying, and now I ll do

The PSDA further requires institutions to document patient information and provide ongoing
community education on advance directives. (Ascension Health, 2013). An example of this Act is
the very popular Nancy Cruzan Case. Although Nancy was left in a vegetative state resulting from a
car accident, her parents were able to make the decision to have her removed from feeding tubes
because Nancy expressed before the accident that she never wanted to be kept alive from breathing
or feeding tubes. This Act really promotes Advanced Directives and hospitals, clinics and other
providers that receive Medicare or Medicaid funds to provide patients with written information
about their right and the information must clearly state the institutions policies on withholding or
withdrawing life sustaining treatment. (Santa Clara University, 2010). There is a positive impact
on hospitals or clinics, providers and insurers in that they are all responsible for giving information
on the rights of patients when they get admitted. Adult patients must be provided with written
information by the healthcare facility about decision making in health and this is based on
informed consent. Personal Life or Community Effects Both The Health Insurance Portability and

Using Sip Procedures For Food Deprived Sprague Dawley Rats
Using SIP procedures in moderately food deprived Sprague Dawley rats, we found that
adolescent males and females provided with scheduled delivery of banana pellets willingly drank
notable amounts of 10% ethanol in a palatable solution (BoostВ®) in short, 30 minute daily access
sessions between the ages of P28 to P41. By collecting blood samples twice during the fourteen
days of access, we established that this intakewas often sufficient to raise BECs into the binge
range ( 80mg/dl). Intake of individual animals was observed to occur in a binge like pattern over
days, typically characterized by a high consumption day followed by 1 2 days of drastically lower
intake, cycling repeatedly. Such binge like patterns were less evident in the... Show more content on

1b). This finding is inconsistent with prior literature, showing that SIP can be established with
water only (Falk, 1961). Furthermore, in Experiment 2 where scheduled delivery was abolished,
with animals receiving mass presentation of pellets at the onset of the intake session, high
consumption levels were nevertheless maintained. It is possible that the lack of schedule
dependency per se may have been associated with limitations in the number of test days due to the
time constraints of adolescence. Indeed, SIP with an ethanol solution is typically established in
adult rats over a period of many weeks in the operant chambers, during which the concentration of
ethanol is gradually raised (Falk et al., 1972). In preliminary work, we established the 14 day (P28
41) intake period, noting that consumptions declined notably as animals transitioned out of the
early mid adolescent period, an ontogenetic time course similar to what we have observed in home
cage consumption studies (Vetter O Hagen et al., 2009).
In Experiment 1b, animals given access to BoostВ® without ethanol consumed on average more
than twice as much fluid (ml/kg) per intake session than their ethanol drinking counterparts in
Experiment 1a. This is likely to be due to the high palatability of chocolate Boost В® for
adolescent rats, which is diminished by the combination of the bitter/sweet taste properties of

Having sympathy for the patient can interfere with the care givers ability to accurately perceive
the patients experience or offer assistance (Forsyth 1980). In reflection on this experience me
becoming involved with the patient did interfere with my ability to offer assistance to the

Morse et al (1991) states that the process of detachment may be a crucial process that allows

The Idea Of Contyping In The Real Ones By Jo Crayola
Does accepting one s femininity mean having to put on a dress and wear makeup? Does
expressing one s femininity mean having to get married, have babies and looking after the
children and their husbands at home? The women today can be so much more without losing
their feminism. There was a time when men are to hunt and gather food while women stayed at
home and cooked and give birth and look after the children. Nowadays, women are as educated as
the men and are able to hold any position that had been reserved for men. Women today are
politicians, leaders of countries, professionals and even combat soldiers. Thus, they have proven
that they are equal to any tasks. The only reason why they are lacking is probably because of
social stereotyping. This is the reason why it is particularly important to empower femininity.
It is easy to ridicule the idea of empowering femininity is because society already hold negative
attitudes toward anything considered feminine. The poem The Real Ones by Jo Crayola cannot
be too far off from reality when describing how society perceived a real woman or mother should
be and how she should conduct herself. A female can only be considered as feminine if she does
not wear a tattoo, grown a lap, and a husband and a hairless armpit . It is imperative that the world
should move beyond this stereotyping to dismiss and demean feminine gender expression, and to
truly recognise women for who they are. Society has to understand that female

Threats Against Big Companies And People Across The World
Threats against big companies and people across the world isn t a trending topic. A lack of
protection from within the platforms can create internal, external, and political problems for people
and business companies. Internally, hackers try to compromise computers and gather sensitive
information from the inside as if it was their private property. Externally, hackers gather
information for their own personal gain and to pose a great threat from outside of the business or
person s home because they can find access into the system a lot easier with new advanced
technology. Over time, computerhacking has grown into something that is essentially a worldwide
problem in countries like North Korea, Russia, the United States, and China that is. Overall, some
these countries are trying to eliminate and capture hackers and produce a stronger more secure
based program for all of the computer platforms. The literature points out that the only way of
fixing the problem with hackers is to invest much more money into producing a more secure
securitysystem for all platforms that is basically impossible to decode or enter the program.
The six sources I examined on this topic agreed on many aspects. The first way that they
corroborated each other was on the issue that companies have a lack of secure security among the
platforms. Myra Din (2015) wrote an article called Breaching and Entering: When Data Scraping
Should be a Federal Computer Hacking Crime. In this study, she notes that

Bad love is better than no love? Can t buy it. Don t want to buy it. Eve spoke in a clipped fashion

were of strong bearing and fierce countenance.
Eve was a single, auburn haired, thirty eight year old professor of esoteric studies at the University

beauty, emotionally weathered but determined. Her life continuously hung in the balance, an

She couldn t stop herself. Goddammit, Shirley. There s more to love than illusion. I ll clear
through the junk and find the real thing. If this thing is junk, I m not going to ride it for the thrill. I
need to trash what s trash. Fantasies are just that, fantasies. I want what s real. Doesn t have to be

Eve was the softer of the two friends, but whenever Shirley got under her skin, she got fired up.
She couldn t let wrong mindedness and messed up thinking pass, wouldn t compromise principle.
Eve wouldn t stop herself from saying what she needed to say when she needed to say it, lest a

Due to the large bodies of water in the county, there is a high risk for drowning. Water quality
pollutants in the county come from fertilizers, bacteria from animal feces, sediment from land
that are being cleared and stream channel erosion. When the rain falls into farms, parking lots,
construction sites, and lawns the water collects pollutants and they get carried to the stream and
then eventually end up in the Chesapeake Bay. In 2010 10 out of 15 streams sampled were

The Tokugawa And Meiji State Ruling Class And Officials
The Tokugawa and Meiji state ruling class and officials wished to impose their ideology onto their
subjects. The ruling class and officials hoped that this would assist them in their endeavors. Their
goals differed between time periods; however, one constant is the mechanism they used to
perpetuate their ideology, mythistory. In Tokugawa Japan, they used mythistory to create an
ideology based on many religions to justify the social hierarchy the officials created (1 professor).
The ВMeiji state used mythistory to obtain national support for industrialization and modernization.

They then would exchange this rice to merchants for currency (1). However, their means of
generating wealth were not stable; harsh weather conditions could severely hamper the output of
rice that their peasants could produce. This then decreases the number of tax that the Shogun could
levy upon their subjects because there is a limit on how much the Shogun can tax his subordinates
before they die from starvation. This caused a dilemma: The Shoguns needed to have an immense
amount of disposable wealth to be in a position to afford their lifestyle (1). Thanks to the expense of
their lifestyle, they forged loans with merchants, without an understanding of how interest rates
worked (1). As a result of their loans, many Shoguns increased the tax they imposed onto their
subordinates even though many of them barely had enough food for themselves. Therefore, the
luxurious lifestyle of the Shoguns coupled with their unstable income resulted in countless
hardships inflicted on their peasants. Many subjects of Shoguns participated in counter mythistory
because of the tribulations forced upon them by the Shoguns due to the social hierarchy and their
unsustainable lifestyles. The subjects of many Shoguns did not sit quietly when their benevolent

Research On The Topic Of Gender
The purpose of this paper is to construct an essay demonstrating my ability to produce a Research
Project. I chose to do my research on the topic of gender, because it is something that I find
interesting. In this paper, I will identify three sources that I have chosen based on the topic of
gender, and then I will summarize the main points of the sources. From there, I will evaluate my
sources to determine whether or not they are value free, and if they use empirical evidence. I will
also define, discuss, and apply specific sociological terms such as social roles, socialization, and
norms from within the context of gender. As I mentioned above, the topic I chose to research is
gender. Often times people use the terms sex and gender interchangeably, but they are not the
same thing. Sex is biological; either you are a male or a female. It is based on things such as
DNA, hormones, genitalia, etc. The term sex is very rigid, whereas the term gender is much more
fluid. It could take into account biological factors, but it doesn t always. Gender refers to the
physical, behavioral, and personality traits that a group or culture consider to be normal, natural,
right and good for its male and female members (Ferris, The Real World: An Introduction to
Sociology, 2014). Gender determines how society influences our understanding and perception of
differences between being masculine or feminine. Gender is something that is socially constructed
and is learned as we grow. The

The Peral by John Steinbeck
If a homeless man were to win a $1,000,000 lottery, how would he handle the circumstance? In
The Pearl, John Steinbeck depicts the story of Kino, a destitute Mexican Indian male who
devotes his life towards his wife and newborn son. He discovers a great pearl that seems to have
the potential to change his life for the better; however, Steinbeck shows how Kino s discovery of a
great fortune can lead to disaster. The pearlinstalls greed in Kino as he desires to improve his
social status, and overall creates an evil corruption that destroys his family. The pearl has three
primary functions. It causes man to become more impulsively animalistic, shows society s
corruption; greediness; and jealousy, and provides a false hope, an illusion that the pearl is
infinitely valued, but in reality has no value at all.
The discovery of the great pearl influences Kino to be more animalistic. ...Kino s fist closed over
the pearl and his emotion broke over him. He put back his head and howled. His eyes rolled up
and he screamed and his body was rigid (Steinbeck 11). Kino s excitement of this discovery leads
to his an impulsive wolf like behavior, howling, which shows the power of the pearl in
triggering man s impulsiveness. The pearl also installs paranoia in Kino, as he fears others
stealing his prized possession. ...a wild fear surged in Kino s breast, and on the fear came
rage...he sprang like an angry cat, leaped striking and spitting for the dark thing he knew was in the

the child must find their way in an unfriendly world. This is not a fictitious story. This is an

author of The Complete Persepolis, grew up during the 1979 Revolution. This event changed
many people s lives, either it was for the better or worse is hard to say. Nevertheless, it

background is very rich in history and in wealth. The ancestry that Satrapi knew and understood
gave her a response of support for the 1979 Revolution. As time went on, however, her options
began to change. Her heritage is told in little stories throughout the whole beginning half of the

First, structure and stage have grown more advanced for understandable reasons. During the
Ancient Greek era, plays were usually only performed once a year at the festival of Dionysus.
This festival was treated as a competition in which a few different Playwrights faced off for the
honor of being the best. At this festival three tribes would compete in many events, one including
acting. The plays were held in an open structure that was shaped as a half moon of sorts. These
ancient plays only hosted three actors and the only resources available were masks and different
costumes. They would change in something called a skene which was really just a tent that
hosted their costumes. As you can tell this made it impossible to host any special visual effects,
especially with the lack of characters allowed in the play. The one special quality ancient plays
did utilize was the chorus. This chorus would sing melodies throughout the play to set the mood
and would act as a supporting cast to those acting. Men played all of the parts in the play. Many
would think that this means that female parts did not play a large roles in these plays. Although
the women didn t actually perform, the men would play women. A lot of times this meant dressing
up like a woman and at times meant speaking like a woman. What is so interesting about this is
that the men would actually get tips from the women and were told, When you talk, see to it that

This error is committed when an argument takes its evidence from an element inside the
argument itself instead of from an outside one. Next fallacy is Relationship implies causation
fallacy. Also called cum hoc Ergo propter Hoc this fallacy is a deposition in which the individual
making the contention joins two occasions that happens consecutively and accepts that one
made the other. Theres also False Dilemma, also called Bifurcation . This sort of error happens
when somebody presents their argument in such a way that there are just two conceivable
alternatives left. Second to last there is illogical conclusion, this fallacy wherein somebody
attests a conclusion that does not follow from the suggestions. And last but not least fallacy is
Slippery slope. The error happens when one contends that an exceptionally minor movement
will unavoidably prompt great and frequently ludicrous conclusions. Now that i ve explained
each fallacy meaning, we can find which category the logical fallacy I seen in class fits under. I
think my logical fallacy from class falls under Appeal to ignorance . The reason I think that is
because Rebecca was being ignorant saying Mrs.Putnam s business out in front of everyone about
the way she is raising her own child. She shouldn t have anything to say if it is none of her
business or her daughter. These are my reasonings and meanings of the fallacies and why

Environmental Issues
Introduction
The sustainability of the planet has become an issue of contention in the recent past due to
numerous environmental issues. Human activities have brought about various climate changes that
may bring about the extinction of the human race on earth. Issues such as climate change, recycling,
sewage, ozone, pollution have all been addressed in the Kyoto protocol, but the proposed solution in
this protocol have not been fully implemented by the countries across the globe. The world has
changed due to the environmental issues that affect us in a negative manner. It is important to keep
in mind that various steps have been taken so as to address the environmental issues and to bring
about favorable conditions as a result of the human activities. Secondly, there are bound to be
disagreements and disputes in the measures that will be adopted when responding to these
environmental issues. The aim of this paper is to discuss the environmental issues by determining
their consequences to the sustainability of the planet. Some of the topics discussed in this paper
include climate change, recycling, sewage, ozone, pollution and the Kyoto protocol just to name
but a few. Many countries around the world have adopted innovative technologies due to the
sensitive nature and the need for a rapid response. These technologies will help to reduce the
emission of greenhouse gases. An example of

Social Skills On Decline Of The Twenty First Century
Social Skills On Decline Living in the twenty first century is unlike anything else. Everything from
having 700 friends, right within your mobile cell phone, or having your alarms contact you and the
police instantly when a door in your home unexpectedly opens. Technological advantages are at an
all time high, but how is the internet and social media changing teenager s social skills for the
worst? It has been made clear that students are spending excessive amounts of time facing a screen,
and that this is causing a decline in social skills, but, more and more professions are valuing the
important prowess of social communication and interpretation. Many students and teenagers own a
technological device. An overwhelming amount of text... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, these sites, apps, phone calls, and texts, are sending teenagers into deep holes of social
awkwardness. A website regarding the safety of the internet, iKeepSafe, stated that, ...kids ages
8 to 18 spending on average 44.5 hours per week in front of screens... (iKeepSafe). The average
teenager is said to spend more time in front of a screen than adults do at their job! Many students
have become so addicted and obsessed with texting and other social media sites, that they are
putting it between them and education. A website, named National Public Radio, gives important
data about school wide technology, along with many other modern issues, it revealed that, At
schools where cell phones are forbidden, 58 percent of students with mobile phones say they ve
sent a text message during class (National Public Radio). Teenagers are so absorbed in the world
on their phone that they feel it is necessary to text during class. While being so engrossed in their
phones, teenagers don t bother to see the world passing around them, and this is causing them to
become trapped in their own social awkwardness. As our phones let the world around us pass by,
we also disregard the conversations with peers, the teamwork opportunities, and the social
interactions. A highly detailed article written for the Strategic Communications of Elon University,
strongly stated that, An overwhelming 92% of respondents believed technology negatively affects

The Importance of Literature
Students around the world are enrolled in literature courses, either as part of an academic
requirement, or sometimes just for leisure. Regardless of what the situation may be, these days in
our current generation, life is too complicated, too distracted, and too fast. In large part, I would
say that this is because of technology. Technology is an extremely valuable instrument today, one
that lets us keep in touch with family and friends, but one that at times may prevent us as humans
from looking at ourselves too deeply, keeping us from going to the place we don t want to go. Too
much involvement with technology can also impede on our ability to think, especially ... Show more

She writes: During this period, white people differed from colored to me only in that they rode

express that the color of skin does not matter, but we are able to learn from other characters in the
story that through courage and a strong sense of determination, goals are achievable. The story
How It Feels to Be Colored Me is just one story that portrays such emotions. Additionally, this
story is very inspirational because despite having lived in a society where color mattered, Zora
Neale Hurston [did] not always feel colored. Even [then she] often achieve[d] the unconscious Zora

Investigating Alcoholic Fermentation and the Affects of Yeast on Dough
Aim: The aim was simply to investigate whether or not yeast had any affect on causing dough to
rise when baked and to experiment with alcoholic fermentation eg. to see if it gave off carbon
dioxide.
Introduction: Following a few weeks of fermentation theory, groups of three to four were assigned
and told to conduct a series of experiments involving the affects of fermentation. My group
consisted of myself, Won Jin, Brendan and Sun Ho and we chose to investigate alcoholic
fermentation and the affects of yeast on dough, more specifically to see if yeast caused the dough
to rise in anyway. We followed the instructions in our biologytextbook on ... Show more content on

Through the Test Tube, we hoped that the Carbon Dioxide given off would travel through the tube
and turn the Lime Water (used as an indicator) into a milky colour. Without much surprise it did
and we could conclude that the Yeast did give off Carbon Dioxide, much like our previous
experiment (Carbon Dioxide given off by the Yeast causing the Dough to rise).
Conclusion: From our results I can safely assume that my Hypothesis was correct for both
experiments and I can now, for sure, say that Yeast does cause Dough to rise. Other than stating that
obvious fact, not much can be said for the first experiment other than we proved Yeast is extremely
important for making the Dough rise. Without the Yeast giving off Carbon Dioxide, the Dough
wouldn t rise. It would also be good to note that the Dough s sticky material traps the Carbon
Dioxide, causing the mound to rise.
For our Alcoholic Fermentation experiment, once again, my Hypothesis was right on the mark. The
Fermentation caused by the Yeast created heat, warming up the tube. Also it turns the sugar into
Alcohol and simply smelling the Test Tube, after the experiment, can also prove this as Alcohol has
a very distinctive smell, easily recognised. My third observation of this experiment showed that
Carbon Dioxide was given off, turning the Lime Water milky.
I cannot say I

The Current Procurement Situation Within Ucla Housing And...
The first few weeks of our project were spent assessing the current procurement situation within
UCLA Housing Hospitality Services. We worked very closely with our stakeholder to gain an
understanding of how products are purchased, and quickly decided that our project would focus on
office supplies because they are frequently purchased and widely used, and because there are not
strict regulations regarding what kinds of products can be purchased/used (as there are for chemical
cleaning supplies, for example).
Additionally, we performed background research and analyzed the current University of California
Sustainability Practices Policy as well as past UCLA Housing purchasing data. Our findings were
surprising. We found that the current... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taking all of this into consideration, we came up with the initial project idea of creating our own
set of comprehensive procurement guidelines. These would be quantified, clear, and concise.
However, we soon found that this project would be logistically difficult to complete and
implement, given our resources and timeline. We also realized that the current guidelines are
already available to UCLA staff, who, as the survey data indicated, are largely unaware of them.
For this reason, simply updating the existing guidelines would have likely had little effect in
changing purchasing behavior. The need for an educational component quickly became apparent
indeed, nearly 50% of survey participants identified a lack of awareness/knowledge of sustainable
products as the biggest obstacle to the sustainable procurement of office supplies at UCLA.
We delved deeper into the current procurement system, learning that the UC System is contracted
with OfficeMax and that it uses an interface known as BruinBuy to make purchases. We thus
decided to use the OfficeMax Green Office catalog (available to the public online) to compile a
product recommendation list. We also made general plans to incorporate this list into an education
program set to take place during Spring

the wrong job, the will be punished and sometimes been killed. The communications between ranks
are also limited. Usually the higher ranks are not allowed to

The changes of human behavior in receiving information in the twenty first century causes
businesses to use viral marketing. At present, consumers are more convenient to access to the
information because of the development of technology. To require the information is only search in
the internet by using computers, laptops or even mobile phones as most mobile phones can access

of positive word of mouth in the internet and prospective customers can reach that information,
there is a potential to convince prospective customers to buy products or services. Therefore,

Interview Questions On Counseling And Counseling
I was able to interview four people about their perceptions and beliefs about counseling. I noted
differences and similarities among their responses which bring about a clearer perspective on the
reality of counseling as a profession. The family and friends I choose to interview about their
perspective on counselingincluded my mom Cathy, my brother Ben and my friend Mackenzie. I
interviewed a counselor named Chris who is a youth leader at my church. Chris works at Penn
State Hershey Medical Center Psychiatry Unit with adults doing individual, couple and family
counseling. The responses given through these interviews allowed for a broader and clearer view
of the perception and reality of counseling. The first question posed to the interviewees was what
happens in a typical counseling session. My mom, Cathy stated she thoughtthe counselor asks
questions to the client and listens. She went on to explain the counselor is trying to get to the root
of the problem. The process of counseling is done through the lens of empathy according to Cathy.
Mackenzie states the counseling begins by the counselor asking the new client questions about him
or herself. The counselor is trying to figure out what brought the client into counseling and discuss
what goals can be achieved. Ben thought counseling session starts with the client telling the
counselor how they are feeling. The counselor is able to move the client past the surface and move
to the issues that lie beneath the surface

  • 2. Beauty Essay Definition of Beauty The word beauty is defined as, A combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially sight (en.oxforddictionaries.com). In this day and age, people, women especially, are being pressured more and more to keep up with this image that society says women should look like. The idea of a perfect woman today is comprised of clear skin, perfectly shaped eyebrows, straight white teeth, and a small waist with an oversized butt and breasts. There are plenty of women who may have all of the qualities just mentioned, but there are also many women who don t have any of them. What people don t realize is there is no right or wrong way to look. As new generations arise, ideas... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After several women, the artist is finished and he hangs up all of the work he had drawn. On the left, he hangs the drawing of the woman describing herself. On the right, is the drawing of the woman being described by the stranger. When the artist reveals the two, the women immediately look disappointed in the drawing on the left. The drawings look sad, mean, and/or lifeless. When they look to the right, they are pleasantly surprised with the beauty that those drawings possess. This is when the artist tells them that that drawing was done based on another individual s idea of her. Many of the women are touched by this and realize that other people don t see them the way they do. Complete strangers can see the beauty in all of the different colors, shapes, and forms of these women, yet they have trouble looking past the features that stand out negatively, as do many people, including men. The video titled You Look Disgusting was made by a woman, Em Ford, who started experimenting with her image and what she revealed to the world via social media. Three months prior to posting this video, she started posting pictures of herself on social media without any makeup on. For most females, this can be scary territory. Over the course of those three months she received shocking comments. There were more than 100,000 people that had made some sort of comment, either positive or negative, ... Essay about Developing My Critical Thinking Skills Given the especially large number of students you see each semester, I don t expect any recollection of my presence in your COMM150 class I certainly wasn t an exemplary enough student to have left any lasting memories (which is both good and bad). But I wanted to share with you a small anecdote, because four years later I ve realized that your class served as an important catalyst in the development of my critical thinking abilities. As a freshmen at the Altoona campus, I took your class on a whim because I needed a Comm class. Do the Right Thing is a 1989 film by Spike Lee. According to Entertainment Weekly, it is one of the 25 most controversial films ever. It was deemed culturally significant by the Library of Congress in 1999, and then placed in the National Film Registry. The story follows the lives of citizens of the Bedford Stuyvesant District in New York City, on the hottest day of the summer, and what they do to cope with the heat. To summarize the entire plot it ends in a riot. I d like to analyze some of the situations found in the movie, and discuss how, if at all, it related to race relations in America. When watching the film, I wasn t overly interested in the plot. Nothing interesting happened (until the end of the movie) and there was nothing that made me (as a viewer) intrigued to continue watching. What I found important, however, was the character portrayals in the movie, and this is what kept me watching. I m not sure what Lee wanted from this movie, because to me, it seemed as if he was being a) overtly racist towards non African Americans, and b) stereotypical of his own race. Throughout the movie I was astounded by the portrayal of the black characters in this movie. Specifically, Buggin Out s character. While I realize that the character s name is a direct reference to his personality, I think Lee went a bit too far. For example, when the white cyclist accidentally scuffed his ... • 4. Gold Rush Challenges Being a gold prospector during the Gold Rush was inarguably one of the most challenging obstacles a human being could ever face. Some might even consider the lengths people were willing to go to for gold rather reckless and idiotic because of how menacing these obstacles were. The challenges that people during the Gold Rush faced, while somewhat incomprehensible to people now, was an extremely important goal to people in the 1800 s. In the articles Race to the Klondike and All About the Klondike Gold Mines , these challenges are thoroughly described and include examples of how people lived during the Gold Rush, one of the most terrifying journeys in history. Forgetfulness would not be tolerated when it came to looking after your food because if you forgot to tie it up, even once, you would face starvation or have to turn back and abandon your aspiration to locate gold. The journey felt like an extensively long time, and they had to make camp often because of the heavy luggage that was impossible to bear for excessive periods of time. Sometimes it is those whose case is weak who make the most clamour. Everybody has been accused of doing something that they have not at some point in their life. Being blamed for something that one was not responsible for happens during adulthood just as much as it does during childhood. False accusations are not uncommon in today s society. Biurny Peguero s case is a perfect example. A woman named Biurny Peguero decided to frame a man named William McCaffery, who was a construction worker at the time. Peguero told law enforcement that she was sexually assaulted by three men, only mentioning McCaffery. She utilized the bite marks on her body that she received from a night out with her girl friends to claim that McCaffery caused them. After the night out, she asked the three men to give her a ride back to her friends. McCaffery and the other two men did just that, without touching her. She received the bite marks from her friends, because when she returned to her friends, all of them broke out in a ridiculous brawl. Edicio Martinez of CBS News wrote that, But upon the returning of her friends the argument that began in the Umbrella Lounge escalated into a full fledged fight. The women punched and bit at each other and when she asked why she was so upset and if those boys raped you, she simply agreed, to try and explain her behavior (Martinez). • 7. Gratification And How It Is Learned In the textbook the authors talk about delay of gratification and how it is learned. The authors refer to delay of gratification as controlling impulsive reactions for long term benefits (Cervone Pervin, 2013). They relate delay of gratification to self control due to the fact that delaying gratification generally means putting off something enjoyable in the present in order to get something even better in the future (Cervone Pervin, 2013). For example, not going to your friend s house tonight so that you can practice the speech you have tomorrow in your English class so you can get a better grade. The textbook also posits that there are two components to delays of gratification. The first component is the impulsive desire to get a reward, and the second component is the cognitive tactics that people use to avoid acting on that impulse (Cervone Pervin, 2013). Research in the area of social cognitive theory even shows that children can learn to withstand greater delays of gratification when they witness models displaying such delay behavior (Cervone Pervin, 2013). The textbook also talks about self efficacy, which was a component in this particular study. Self efficacy can be defined as an individual s perceptions about their own capabilities for performing some act in the future (Cervone Pervin, 2013). It has been found that self efficacy perceptions impact various types of behavior that are essential for human achievement (Cervone Pervin, 2013). Self efficacy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Ambition And Murderous Intent In Macbeth By William... Macbeth is a tragic play written by Shakespeare that dramatizes tragic flaw of ambition and murderous intent in Macbeth, which is manipulated by his equally ambitious wife and the inherently evil witches. This leads him to murder King Duncan. The first impression of Macbeth portrays him as a war hero who, ironically, has a strong distaste in traitors and disloyalty in the dialogue spoken by Captain For brave Macbeth well he deserves that name disdaining fortune, with his brandished steel, which smoked with bloody execution, like a valour s minion carved out his passage till he faced the slave, which ne er shook hands, nor bade farewell to him, till he unseamed him from the navel to th chaps and fixed his head upon our battlements. His violent and graphic actions which shows his allegiance to the king, ironically, also shows the readers that he is merciless and bloodthirsty when he is ambitious. This reveals a latent murderous aspect to his personality. Black power is a movement lead by Stokely Carmichael which promoted the idea of black empowerment and creating a community where blacks feel comfortable in. It implies self determination and self motivation. This means blacks should not rely on white authority to fix racial issues but rather take matters into their own hands. It is a call for blacks to define their own goals. This was not only meant as freedom from white authority but also as economical and political independence. In this way Black Power was taking control of the future of blacks in both economical and political ways and establishing a community in which they will not have to suffer living as second class citizens. Black power also encouraged blacks to have pride in their racial heritage and be proud to be black. • 18. The Transformation of Gilgamesh Depicted in The Epic of... Gilgamesh struggled to establish moral principle. His personality at first was an arrogant, self centered tyrant ; he was described by Enkidu His teeth are dragon s fangs, his countenance is like a lion his charge is the rushing of the flood... (pg. 16 line 3 6). But towards the end of this epic narrative Gilgamesh switched over to a more humble and sincere person. This adjustment in Gilgamesh s behavior shows his modesty and the morality throughout the story. At first, Gilgamesh was seen as an oppressor to his people. He was known to be among the best of creation; as stated in the prolouge When the gods created Gilgamesh they gave him a perfect body... . This king saw himself more superior to his people, and he was filled with pride. His personality starts changing after he defeated Humbaba, who was causing havoc in the society. After he kills him this changes the views of the people in his city and he becomes loved. He did a great deed for his people, and he felt very gratifying about it. Although this played a role in his personality shift, the turning point occurred after death of Enkidu. After his death Gilgamesh was grieving intensly, by this the reader can infer that he is humbling himself. Gilgamesh knew that Enkidu was just as magnificent as himself, so after his death When Gilgamesh knew death was around the corner he did not enjoy worldly pleasures, thus making him more god fearing. Another interesting point is when Gilgamesh called upon god O glorious Shamash, I have followed the road you commanded but now if you send no succor how shall I escape? (p.17 lines 33 34).This exemplifies the fact that Gilgamesh needs divine help, Gilgamesh is not satisfied with his own strength and abilities thus calls upon god in humility. The last occurance that proves Gilgamesh s personality shift is when he decided to bring the plant back to Uruk. He wanted the old men to eat it first so they can be rejuvenated, and then he would take part of it last. In conclusion, Gilgamesh s personality and outlook on life changes completely throughout the story. It shows that no matter how strong an epic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Native American And African Slaves As the Native American population had been decimated by genocide and war, England looked to African slaves to provide them with the necessary labor to harvest tobacco. Although African slaves had the same status as that of an indentured servant, African slaves began to become more and more restricted, losing all human and civil rights. These restrictions were placed on African slaves to protect the rights of the indentured Englishmen, and developed a social/political system based of segregation and discrimination, ultimately leading to the modern ideology of the world, racism. Native Americans were not spared from the stupidity of racial superiority, and like Africans, were forced into slavery. Native American slavery though predominately in the Spanish colonies was used in North America. Though unlike the Mesoamerican slaves, the North American slaves were also the slavers. The colonists of North America lured Native Americans to capture other Native Americans in exchange for trade goods and alliances, forcing Native Americans to choose between being the slaver or the slaved, much like some African tribes. In South America, the Spaniards enticed nearly 100,000 under false promises of riches, and instead enslaved them, forcing them to harvest guano (bird excrements), an export from Peru that had a value of fifteen billion dollars. As slavery spread throughout the New World, much of the African, Chinese, and indigenous culture began to mix together, resulting in a unique ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on The Changes In Medicine In The Nineteenth Century The Changes In Medicine In The Nineteenth Century The nineteenth century was one of the most important eras in the history of medicine as many new cures and technologies were discovered. By the end of the century, social conditions had improved, medicine was more complex, treatments were more widely offered and technology was more advanced along with many other improvements. However, these changes were not implemented until thirty years later when Parliament finally agreed. There were a number of reasons why the government s view of health conditions in towns changed in the 1870 s. The health in towns was still very bad and there were a number of cholera epidemics, including the famous one where Dr. John Snow linked cholera to polluted water. In 1861, Pasteur proved that germs cause decay. It was Robert Koch who linked the germ theory and disease with actual proof in 1878, a few years after the Second Public Health Act had been passed, but many people believed that he was right before he proved it. One of the most important reasons was that in 1867, the vote was given to all male householders. Before, it had just been the rich that had voted. The rich lived in the towns, owned houses where disease was kept to a minimum and lived, on average, twenty five years longer than the urban working class. The Public Health Act was extremely successful and by the end of the century almost all towns had hygienic sewers and water systems. The Industrial Revolution meant that the government was more aware of the health of ordinary people and they tried to make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This finding is inconsistent with prior literature, showing that SIP can be established with water only (Falk, 1961). Furthermore, in Experiment 2 where scheduled delivery was abolished, with animals receiving mass presentation of pellets at the onset of the intake session, high consumption levels were nevertheless maintained. It is possible that the lack of schedule dependency per se may have been associated with limitations in the number of test days due to the time constraints of adolescence. Indeed, SIP with an ethanol solution is typically established in adult rats over a period of many weeks in the operant chambers, during which the concentration of ethanol is gradually raised (Falk et al., 1972). In preliminary work, we established the 14 day (P28 41) intake period, noting that consumptions declined notably as animals transitioned out of the early mid adolescent period, an ontogenetic time course similar to what we have observed in home cage consumption studies (Vetter O Hagen et al., 2009). In Experiment 1b, animals given access to BoostВ® without ethanol consumed on average more than twice as much fluid (ml/kg) per intake session than their ethanol drinking counterparts in Experiment 1a. Does expressing one s femininity mean having to get married, have babies and looking after the children and their husbands at home? The women today can be so much more without losing their feminism. There was a time when men are to hunt and gather food while women stayed at home and cooked and give birth and look after the children. Nowadays, women are as educated as the men and are able to hold any position that had been reserved for men. Women today are politicians, leaders of countries, professionals and even combat soldiers. Thus, they have proven that they are equal to any tasks. The only reason why they are lacking is probably because of social stereotyping. This is the reason why it is particularly important to empower femininity. It is easy to ridicule the idea of empowering femininity is because society already hold negative attitudes toward anything considered feminine. The poem The Real Ones by Jo Crayola cannot be too far off from reality when describing how society perceived a real woman or mother should be and how she should conduct herself. A female can only be considered as feminine if she does not wear a tattoo, grown a lap, and a husband and a hairless armpit . It is imperative that the world should move beyond this stereotyping to dismiss and demean feminine gender expression, and to truly recognise women for who they are. A lack of protection from within the platforms can create internal, external, and political problems for people and business companies. Externally, hackers gather information for their own personal gain and to pose a great threat from outside of the business or person s home because they can find access into the system a lot easier with new advanced technology. Over time, computerhacking has grown into something that is essentially a worldwide problem in countries like North Korea, Russia, the United States, and China that is. Overall, some these countries are trying to eliminate and capture hackers and produce a stronger more secure based program for all of the computer platforms. The literature points out that the only way of fixing the problem with hackers is to invest much more money into producing a more secure securitysystem for all platforms that is basically impossible to decode or enter the program. The six sources I examined on this topic agreed on many aspects. The first way that they corroborated each other was on the issue that companies have a lack of secure security among the platforms. From there, I will evaluate my sources to determine whether or not they are value free, and if they use empirical evidence. I will also define, discuss, and apply specific sociological terms such as social roles, socialization, and norms from within the context of gender. Urlacher Dr. Fruhauff English 224 11 May 2015 Tragedy Will Never Be the Same Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything (Shaw). Change is inevitable. Times change and ideas progress. One thing we think to be unacceptable now may very well be acceptable in the future. Look at the use of marijuana and even the homosexual agenda. Society is slowly progressing with its postmodern thinking and statistically speaking, those people are thinking it is more and more acceptable. We might not think that what I just said has anything to do with Theatre, but we need to put in perspective why we now have the theatre we do now. Ancient Greek theatre was not as open to civil human rights... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, structure and stage have grown more advanced for understandable reasons. During the Ancient Greek era, plays were usually only performed once a year at the festival of Dionysus. This festival was treated as a competition in which a few different Playwrights faced off for the honor of being the best. At this festival three tribes would compete in many events, one including acting. The plays were held in an open structure that was shaped as a half moon of sorts. These ancient plays only hosted three actors and the only resources available were masks and different costumes. They would change in something called a skene which was really just a tent that hosted their costumes. As you can tell this made it impossible to host any special visual effects, especially with the lack of characters allowed in the play. The one special quality ancient plays did utilize was the chorus. This chorus would sing melodies throughout the play to set the mood and would act as a supporting cast to those acting. Men played all of the parts in the play. Many would think that this means that female parts did not play a large roles in these plays. Although the women didn t actually perform, the men would play women. A lot of times this meant dressing up like a woman and at times meant speaking like a woman. What is so interesting about this is that the men would actually get tips from the women and were told, When you talk, see to it that you speak preciously and persuasively, like a ... Theres also False Dilemma, also called Bifurcation . This sort of error happens when somebody presents their argument in such a way that there are just two conceivable alternatives left. Biology Lab Report Investigating Alcoholic Fermentation and the Affects of Yeast on Dough Aim: The aim was simply to investigate whether or not yeast had any affect on causing dough to rise when baked and to experiment with alcoholic fermentation eg. to see if it gave off carbon dioxide. Introduction: Following a few weeks of fermentation theory, groups of three to four were assigned and told to conduct a series of experiments involving the affects of fermentation. My group consisted of myself, Won Jin, Brendan and Sun Ho and we chose to investigate alcoholic fermentation and the affects of yeast on dough, more specifically to see if yeast caused the dough to rise in anyway. Through the Test Tube, we hoped that the Carbon Dioxide given off would travel through the tube and turn the Lime Water (used as an indicator) into a milky colour. Without much surprise it did and we could conclude that the Yeast did give off Carbon Dioxide, much like our previous experiment (Carbon Dioxide given off by the Yeast causing the Dough to rise). Conclusion: From our results I can safely assume that my Hypothesis was correct for both experiments and I can now, for sure, say that Yeast does cause Dough to rise. Other than stating that obvious fact, not much can be said for the first experiment other than we proved Yeast is extremely important for making the Dough rise. Without the Yeast giving off Carbon Dioxide, the Dough wouldn t rise. It would also be good to note that the Dough s sticky material traps the Carbon Dioxide, causing the mound to rise. For our Alcoholic Fermentation experiment, once again, my Hypothesis was right on the mark. The Fermentation caused by the Yeast created heat, warming up the tube. Also it turns the sugar into Alcohol and simply smelling the Test Tube, after the experiment, can also prove this as Alcohol has a very distinctive smell, easily recognised. My third observation of this experiment showed that Carbon Dioxide was given off, turning the Lime Water milky. I cannot say I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first few weeks of our project were spent assessing the current procurement situation within UCLA Housing Hospitality Services. We worked very closely with our stakeholder to gain an understanding of how products are purchased, and quickly decided that our project would focus on office supplies because they are frequently purchased and widely used, and because there are not strict regulations regarding what kinds of products can be purchased/used (as there are for chemical cleaning supplies, for example). Additionally, we performed background research and analyzed the current University of California Sustainability Practices Policy as well as past UCLA Housing purchasing data. Taking all of this into consideration, we came up with the initial project idea of creating our own set of comprehensive procurement guidelines. These would be quantified, clear, and concise. However, we soon found that this project would be logistically difficult to complete and implement, given our resources and timeline. We also realized that the current guidelines are already available to UCLA staff, who, as the survey data indicated, are largely unaware of them. For this reason, simply updating the existing guidelines would have likely had little effect in changing purchasing behavior. The need for an educational component quickly became apparent indeed, nearly 50% of survey participants identified a lack of awareness/knowledge of sustainable products as the biggest obstacle to the sustainable procurement of office supplies at UCLA. We delved deeper into the current procurement system, learning that the UC System is contracted with OfficeMax and that it uses an interface known as BruinBuy to make purchases. We thus decided to use the OfficeMax Green Office catalog (available to the public online) to compile a product recommendation list. We also made general plans to incorporate this list into an education program set to take place during Spring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
