Pelvic floor dysfunction affects up to 50% of women and can negatively impact quality of life. Physical therapy is an effective treatment for stress urinary incontinence (SUI), a common type of pelvic floor dysfunction. Treatment involves pelvic floor muscle training through exercises like Kegels to strengthen muscles, as well as biofeedback to improve muscle activation. The goals are to educate patients, increase strength and elasticity of pelvic floor muscles, and improve bladder control.
