3. INTRODUCTION
■ OCR LEVEL 1/2 GCSE (9-1) IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION offers a practical and engaging course that will
equip learners with knowledge, understanding, skills and value to develop and maintain their
performance in physical activities and understand the benefits to health, fitness and well-being.
■ GCSE PE is a 2 year course (Year 10 & Year 11) that covers:
- Physical factors affecting performance (Theoretical exam paper)
- Socio- cultural issues and sports psychology (Theoretical exam paper)
- Performance in physical education (Non Exam Assessment)
■ 2 hours of high quality teaching per week (2 theory based lesson)
■ Highly experienced teachers of GCSE Physical Education
■ Very high expectations
4. COURSE REQUIREMENTS
■ No prior knowledge, skills, understanding or learning of the subject is required.
HOWEVER LEARNERS MUST HAVE:
■ An interest and affection for sport and physical education.
■ An interest in health & well-being.
■ Sound practical ability (Performance in outside/ school extra-curricular sport is desirable).
■ A sound science background (interest in biology/ physiology).
■ Strong dedication and commitment to study.

7. NON- EXAM ASSESSMENT (40%)

Practical Performance
- Internally assessed.
- Pupils can be assessed in the role of player/ performer.
- Pupils select 1 team sport, 1 individual sport and one other from the list provided (overleaf).
- Learners are required to demonstrate effective performance, the use of tactics or techniques and the
ability to observe rules and conventions under supplied conditions.
Analysing and evaluating Performance (AEP) - Coursework
- Learners are required to demonstrate their ability to analyse and evaluate their own performance.
- Learners analyse aspects of personal performance in a practical activity.
- Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the performances.
- Produce action plan which aims to improve the quality of their performance.
