2. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Identify and describe the key processes in PE
Give practical examples of each process
Recognise the examination requirements for this section in the specification
3. KEY CONCEPTS
The processes are physical and mental skills pupils learn in PE to progress
Developing skills and techniques
Decision making
Physical and mental capacity
Evaluating and improving
Making informed choices about active, healthy lifestyles
YOU NEED TO DESCRIBE AND GIVE E.G’S FOR EACH
www.qca.org.uk – PE curriculum
4. DEVELOPING SKILLS IN PE
Refining and adapting skills e.g. a serve in
tennis – throw up, body mvnt, arm mvnt, ball
strike
Developing precision and control with skills
e.g. practicing a netball shot over and over
will make it more accurate
5. MAKING AND APPLYING DECISIONS
Selecting and using the correct tactics or
strategies e.g. a trampolinist selecting the
correct skills to show the judge
You also need to be able to adapt to a
changing env. E.g?
Changing the formation of the team when
loosing
You should plan and choose skills to practice
– tackling was rubbish, I’ll practice these in
training.
6. MAKING AND APPLYING DECISIONS
Also it involves recognising any hazards.
What is this?
Deciding how you control these e.g.?
Moving glass from the field of play
7. DEVELOPING PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CAPACITY
Developing your physical strength, stamina, speed and
flexibility
As well as this it also involves having the mental
determination and motivation to do a task. E.g?
Motivation to attend an aerobics class
8. EVALUATING AND IMPROVING
Analysing performance, and identifying the strengths and
weaknesses e.g.?
Watching a tennis player and identifying they have a weak
serve, but a very strong backhand
It also involves making decisions on how to improve, e.g.
weak at shooting, so planning a shooting practice for
training.
It’s important to know what you want to achieve and what
you have achieved
9. MAKING INFORMED CHOICES ABOUT HEALTHY,
ACTIVE LIFESTYLES
Identifying the types of physical activity best suited to you
and what role you want to take on, player, coach or
referee.
Also involves making decisions about involvement in
healthy physical activity e.g deciding to do jogging to
ensure a healthy heart
