5. What are West Hatch’s Sixth Form’s USPs?

7. Those who are starting an apprenticeship or going into
employment, cover a range of industries from Media and
Finance to Insurance and Law.
We’ve got someone working at BNY Mellon’s IT Helpdesk, a
commercial underwriter at Zurich, a legal secretary, a Digital
Marketing Apprentice at Media 10 and a software engineer
at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, amongst others.
Our final UCAS data wont be complete until October 2023,
but initial data shows that 1 in 5 students will study at a
Russell Group university.

10. For the past 5 years BTEC Results have remained extremely high. The Average
Grade for these courses have been between a Distinction
(A grade equivalent at A level)
Students on these courses have gone on to attend universities such as QMUL

21. • Enrichment will soon start on a Tuesday afternoon for Year 12 students.
They wont be rigid groups, but there may be smaller group sessions or whole
cohort sessions – to give them better experiences and opportunities.
• UCAS – removed from enrichment. This is a standard experience and will be
delivered during form time.
• Work experience added to students portfolio as well which they will complete
in the Summer term of Year 12
• 40 hour community service for Y12 students. Half of this MUST be completed in
school. Signed off. All to have a ‘portfolio’ of evidence by end of year 12

27. The Lucy Cavendish College Summer Preparation Programme 2023 is designed
to bridge the gap between GCSE study to A-Levels by providing students with a
month-long programme of academic enrichment tailored to their stage of the
curriculum.
The programme will consist of study skills workshops on a range of important
themes such as time management and essay writing, university readiness
sessions to support students as they plan their next steps to top Universities like
Cambridge, and substantive knowledge sessions, designed to supplement
students' foundational academic knowledge so that they can hit the ground
running when they start their A-Levels.

28. Lucy Cavendish College is the most diverse College in
Cambridge, admitting over 90% of our UK students from state
schools. As part of our commitment to widening participation,
we are delighted to launch our flagship virtual outreach
programme, the Lucy Cavendish College Academic
Attainment Programme, for the third year running.
Academic Attainment Programme

29. What does the programme involve?
Students will participate in regular subject-specific enrichment
classes in each of their core A-Level (or equivalent) subjects, with
the aim of strengthening students' skills and knowledge and raising
attainment and confidence in their current studies.
Monthly Peer Discussion Groups will also offer students the
opportunity to continuously develop their oracy, critical thinking,
and problem-solving skills.

30. Who is eligible for the programme?
In Year 12 in England or Wales, S5 in Scotland, or Year 13 in Northern
Ireland in the academic year 2023/24
•Attending a non-fee paying school in the United Kingdom
•Achieved at least 5 grades 8-9 in their GCSEs
How do I apply?
The application deadline is 9am on 9th October 2023.

For every hour in the classroom, students should spend an hour in independent study
Reading, Research, Exam Questions, Past papers, Mark Schemes, Examiner Reports, Homework.

34. • Maintain a high level of attendance (over 95%) and attend all lessons,
examinations, form time and timetabled supervised study sessions.
• Be punctual to all lessons, examinations, form time, and supervised study
sessions.
• Meet all deadlines set for assignments and home learning.
• Fully engage in every lesson through preparation, participation and
consolidation.
• Complete all work set to the very best of your ability
• Be well-organised at all times.
• Commit to independent learning including revision and completion of work
during supervised study.
• Be reflective and honest about your own progress and how to improve.

35. • Respond to all feedback from staff.
• Be polite to all members of staff, following instructions first time and show each
other and all members of our community respect.
• Check Teams, Show my Homework, e-mails, notice board and plasma screens for
information every day.
• Adhere to the Sixth Form dress-code and wear student ID lanyard at all times.
• Keep paid work to no more than 8 hours per week and must not be during
timetabled school sessions.
• Regular medical, dental, optical appointments and driving lessons etc should not
be scheduled during the school day and holidays should not be taken during
term time.
• Act as a positive role model for younger students and behave in a manner which
befits a West Hatch Sixth Form student

36. Uniform Expectations:
Sixth Form students must recognise their responsibility in acting as ambassadors to the school
and as positive role models at all times. We expect all students to be smart and well-
presented.
The aim of the Sixth Form dress code is to ensure students are dressed smartly, professionally
and in a formal, business style.

37. FEMALE
Professional Dress
Plain white or cream blouse with a collar – no logos or bright colours
Black, grey or navy suit: comprising of jacket and skirt or trousers
Black or Grey Dresses. Jackets to be worn.
Shoes should be appropriate to wear with a suit and not trainers, black canvas shoes or
boots
Non-acceptable forms of clothing are: leggings, jeggings, strappy and sleeveless
dresses, sweatshirts, hoodies or crop-top, spaghetti straps, vest tops.
Footwear: trainers, converse, vans, crocks, Uggs flip flops.
Skirts should be no more than 2 inches above the knee.
Lycra ‘body con’ skirts are not to be worn.
Leather, skater skirts, skorts, and shorts are not acceptable.
Trousers may be worn but must be tailored – not leggings, jeggings, denim

These must be worn at all times and used to swipe in
and out of school.

39. Free School Meals (FSM)
• Students in receipt of FSM in Year 11 at West Hatch High School will continue to receive
FSM in Sixth Form. No further action required.
• Students who have joined West Hatch in Sixth Form are required to apply for FSM (It
doesn’t roll over from the previous school). To apply, please visit www.westhatch.net
and select ‘Parents’ from the Main Menu and then ‘Free School Meals’. Application
takes less than 5 minutes and you will receive an instant response. The Finance Office
will receive notification of your application on the following working day and will
update the system to reflect this. If eligible, FSM will be applicable from the date of

40. ParentPay
• All students have a ParentPay account. We are a cashless school and all
parents/guardians should activate their ParentPay account as soon as possible.
ParentPay is used to pay for food/drink purchases from the school, School Trips and
Books/Materials as requested throughout the year by the relevant departments.
• ParentPay activations letters have already been distributed to students via form
tutors however, if this has not made its way to you then a reprint is available from
Mrs Plowright in the Sixth Form Study Centre.
• If you have forgotten your username, Mrs Plowright can help to remind you
however, if you have forgotten your password you must click on the forgotten
password link on the ParentPay homepage (www.parentpay.com).

41. Bursary
• Some students may be eligible for a School Bursary in Year 12. Application forms
were handed out to all students in form last week however, further copies are
available tonight. Please review the criteria for Level 1 – 4 and if this applies to you,
please complete the application and return to the Finance Office located in the main
building no later than 30th September 2023. Please note that applications will not be
processed without any supporting evidence. Please see the 2nd page for further

• Finally, if your application is successful, all bursary payments are paid directly to the
student so your child must have a bank account in their own name that will accept
BACS payments.
