The Use Of Artificial Light Sources And Prevent Any...
The majority of laboratories housing Xenopus laevis make use of artificial light sources and
prevent any natural lighting from entering the laboratory. Although Xenopus laevis thrive and
reproduce over a wide range of photoperiod, recommendations are periods of 14 hour light and 10
hour dark which mimic conditions in a natural habitat (Major Wassersug, 1998). Inappropriate
photoperiods, light deprivation or continuous light may prove detrimental and cause symptoms of
lethargy, sterility and even death (Hayes et al., 1998). Slow and steady dimming and illuminating
of lights is preferred to abruptly switching on and off, as this allows the animalto adapt to the
change and is potentially less stressful to the animal (Reed, 2005).
2.3.6.2Humidity
Xenopus laevis frogs are completely aquatic. Therefore, controlling humidity levels in an
aquarium housing the tanks for these animals is not as crucial as for a species that spends
prolonged periods of time on dry land (Reed, 2005).
2.3.6.3Water provision
Quantity and depth of water provisions are poorly outlined, but as long as the animal can swim
around freely, lie fully submerged underwater, avoid contact with other animals or tank walls if
desired and swim in any direction without obstruction or hindrance from other animals or tank
walls, it is considered acceptable. The quality of water is more important, with a pH maintained
between 6.5 and 8.5. (Reed, 2005). Deviations from this, too acidic or too alkaline, can result

Junior s Identity Overpowers The Identity Of Indian Identity
Victor Vernick 1st Period Mr. Kupersmith Wednesday 6, December 2017 At this point in the
novel, I think Junior is more identified with his Caucasian side because he is now officially a
student at Reardan where there s all white kids. For once in his life, Junior has a chance to be
somebody. Junior identifies with his Indian tribe in the sense that he lives on a reservation and
the fact that he comes from a poor family. I wish I were magical, but I am really just a poor ass
reservation kid living with his poor ass family on the poor ass Spokane Indian Reservation (7).
Junior identifies with his Caucasian side because he goes to an all white school and because of
his intelligence. Petrified wood is not wood (84). Junior then goes on to explain how it works
and the smartest kid in the class, Gordy, explains that he is right when the teacher doesn t
believe him. Junior s Caucasian identity overpowers his Indian identity because Caucasians in
general are more privileged and are smarter than the kids at Junior s old school, Welpinit. Based
off many aspects of Junior s conditions and ethnic background, other people and Junior have
expectations of what his future will look like. An internal expectation that Junior has of himself
is that he will follow the continuing cycle of his family. He believes he ll never be able to go after
his dreams in life and live on a reservation forever. But we reservation Indians don t get to realize
our dreams. We don t get those chances. Or

Rice Arsenic
Here are some answers to FAQ about arsenic in rice:
1. Did all types of rice tested contained measurable levels of arsenic?
Almost all of the different types of rice tested contained measurable levels of arsenic, though levels
varied depending on the type of rice.
2. Which types of rice have the highest levels of arsenic?
Brown rice has, on average, 80 percent more inorganic arsenic than white rice, which is the element
s more toxic form, because Arsenic accumulates in the grain s outer layers, which are removed to
make white rice, states Consumer Report.
3. Which types of rice have the lowest levels of arsenic?
White basmati rice from California, India, and Pakistan, and sushi rice from the U.S. on average
has half of the inorganic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More research on arsenic and its influences on our health and food supply is essential to learn
about these effects so better policy decisions can be made.
Rice is one of the major crops grown in flooded fields, it absorbs arsenic from soil or water much
more effectively than most plants. Improved irrigation and agricultural practices can help reduce
arsenic contamination of rice and other crops, for example growing crops in raised beds instead in
water flooded conditions.
Since, arsenic in our environment is not only due to arsenic containing minerals in the earth, it is
important to say that most of the arsenic problems we have today are result of human activity,
such as the use of arsenic based products for industrial and agricultural purposes like use of arsenic
containing pesticides on crops, insecticides, drugs fed to chicken and some other animals (for
example Nitarsone).
The remedy should be: ALL ARSENIC CONTRIBUTORS SHOULD BE BANNED!
9. How your awareness can cut your arsenic exposure?
Test your water. If your home is not on a public water system, have your water tested for arsenic
and lead. To find a certified lab, contact your local health

Integration Of Proxy Model With Enkf Algorithms For Time...
Methodology
This section contains the mathematical background and stepwise procedure for EnKF algorithm,
KL expansion and ANN based proxy model. Integration of proxy model with EnKF algorithms for
time efficient assisted history matching is also explained in this section. Ensemble Kalman Filter
Algorithm
EnKF is a Monte Carlo data assimilation method, which has gained popularity over recent years
for assisted history matching due to its ability to include available observations sequentially in
time. Aanonsen et al. (2009) reviewed the application of EnKF in reservoir engineering for
estimation of reservoir parameters. EnKF procedure utilizes an ensemble of model states (e.g.
realizations of reservoir properties such as porosity and permeability) to estimate the covariance
matrices used in model updating process. Initial ensemble is generated based on the prior
knowledge of the reservoir derived from various sources as well logs, core and seismic analysis. In
general, simulation techniques such as Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS) and Sequential
Indicator Simulation (SIS) are used to generate multiple realizations. These realizations are
consistent with the initial state of the reservoir. In the next step, all the reservoir models in
ensemble are forwarded typically using the numerical reservoir simulation. Mean and covariance of
predicted model states is calculated and used in turn to calculate Kalman gain. Next, in the update
(or analysis) step, each geological

The Medical Examiner looks for different signs of how the patient died on the ventral side if it was
a suicide or the dorsal side if it was a different death concerning health problems which would
match with the cause that was determined by the detective. There are many things to look for on a
body before the autopsy like signs of struggle, forced marks on the skin, scratches or cuts, dirt under
nails, what condition the
feet are in, if they were running from something or someone. After an autopsy the
Medical Examiner checks the insides and checks the organs and makes sure everything is intact or
if they ingested any toxins to cause the death or may have contributed to the death of the patient.
The Medical Examiner include diagnoses, toxicology, opinion, circumstances of death,
identification of the decedent, general description of clothing and personal effects, evidence of
medical intervention, external examination, external evidence of injury, internal examination,
samples obtained

Features Of Post Impressionism
Post impressionism was an art movement between the end of 19th century and the beginning of
20th century, started in France. It was a breach of Impressionism. During the period of
Impressionism, some artists started to dissatisfied to the style as Impressionism depended too much
on visual and scientific analysis. They thought Impressionism only focused on the techniques and
effects of light and shadow but neglect the importance of subject matters. Some young artists and
critics demanded a shift in the focus of representational arts. Paul CГ©zanne, Georges Seurat, Paul
Gauguinand Vincent Van Goghwere the four giants of Post impressionism.

opposing stylistic trends, on one side was the structured, or geometric style that was the precursor
to Cubism, while on the other side was the expressive, or non geometric art that led to Abstract

In fact, a specific region of Africa has been dubbed the meningitis belt. Those living in this sub
Saharan region stretching from Senegal to Gambia are at risk for the lethal epidemics that ravage
the land during most dry seasons ( PATH. ). Bacterial meningitis works in a very specific way, with
quite a few symptoms; however, adequate treatments and vaccines have been developed.
Third Grade Level Disease Description:
Bacterial meningitis is the swelling of the meninges. In the back of the brain, there are three
protective membranes called the meninges (Mandal). During bacterial meningitis, bacteria invade
the brain. This causes the immune system to enter and try to stop the disease (Mandal). In doing
so, the meninges swell to stop the spread the virus, but this unfortunately causes damage to the
brain and spinal area (Mandal). A person would get bacterial meningitis if their body was invaded
by some of the germs that can cause it. Imagine the bacteria as robbers trying to invade a house,
the body in this analogy. The immune system is the police officers in charge of the house, and the
meninges are the alarms around the point of the house that the robbers want to come in through.
The robbers trick the police officers into helping them rob the house. The robbers used the police
officers, originally intended to do good.
A person would get rid of these germs by taking drugs that would be used to specifically target the
germs like police officers

The Importance Of Innate Ideas In John LockeBy David Locke
Another problem with Locke s insistence that innate ideas do not exist, is that necessary truths,
that is, contingent propositions (2+2=4), cannot be acquired through experience alone. If
necessary truths exist, that would at least infer that innate ideas exist and are merely revealed
through experience for necessary truths are a priori, which implies that innate knowledge exists
as a disposition. Beyond this, there is the possibility that we can form an idea without a
corresponding sensory impression. While not without its flaws, the argument that one can
generate an idea without first being exposed to the relevant sensory experience is illustrated in
Hume s missing shade of blue example. Locke claims that in order for an idea to be in the mind,
we must be conscious of it, which indicates that there is not much leeway allowed for memory,
that is, a power of the mind to revive perceptions it once had. The question then, is whether we
can know things without being conscious of them. It seems as though it is possible, but it is
important to note that regardless if we can or not, what is unconscious must have once been
conscious. For this reason, a potential response Locke would give to Hume with reference to the
missing shade of blue, is that even if one is able to fill it in, they would still be using their senses
in some way to access that knowledge and perhaps it would be knowledge made out of a long train
of proofs, which highlights the mental fatigue factor in play.
With regards to Locke s theory of knowledge, he holds that knowledge is divided into three types:
intuitive knowledge (knowledge the mind can attain without the need for recognizing something
else), demonstrative knowledge (a kind of knowledge cannot occur without the help of previous
information), and sensation knowledge (knowledge that results from empirical knowledge of the
known object). As such, it follows that our knowledge of our own existence is intuitive, our
knowledge of God s existence is demonstrative, and our knowledge of things present to sense is
sensitive. Locke believes that intuitive knowledge is real knowledge and the most important
degree of knowledge wherein there is no need for inference as the Mind is at no

Plot
PLOT OF INTO THE WILD (FILM) The film is presented in a nonlinear narrative, jumping back
and forth between McCandless s time spent in Alaskan wilderness and his two year travels
leading up to his journey to Alaska. The plot summary here is told in a more chronological
order. In May 1992, Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) arrives in a remote area just north
of the Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska and sets up a campsite in an abandoned bus.
At first, McCandless is content with the isolation, the beauty of nature around him, and the thrill
of living off the land. He hunts wild animals with a .22 caliber rifle, reads books, and keeps a diary
of his thoughts as he prepares for himself a new life in the wild. Two years... Show more content on

McCandless then travels to the Colorado River and, though told by park rangers that he may not
kayak down the river without a license, ignores their warnings and paddles downriver until he
eventually arrives in Mexico. There, his kayak is lost in a dust storm and he crosses back into
the United States on foot. Unable to hitchhike, he starts traveling on freight trains to Los
Angeles, California. Not long after arriving, however, he starts feeling corrupted by modern
civilization and decides to leave. Later, McCandless is forced to switch his traveling method
back to hitchhiking after he is beaten by the railroad police. In December 1991, McCandless
arrives at Slab City in the Imperial Valley region of California, and encounters Jan and Rainey
again. There, he meets Tracy Tatro (Kristen Stewart), a teenage girl who shows interest in
McCandless, but he rejects her because she is underage. After the holidays, McCandless decides
to continue heading for Alaska, much to everyone s sadness. While camping near Salton City,
California, McCandless encounters Ron Franz (Hal Holbrook), a retired man who recounts the
story of the loss of his family in a car accident while he was serving in the United States Army. He
now occupies his time in a workshop as an amateur leather worker. Franz teaches McCandless the
craft of leatherwork, resulting in the making of a belt that details McCandless travels. After

Social Stratification
DISCUSS TO ASSESS THE APPLICABILITY OF THE CONFLICT THEORY IN EXPLAINING
STRATIFICATION.
Stratification is a term used to characterize a structure of inequality where individuals occupy
differentiated structural positions and the positions are situated in layers (or strata) that are ranked
hierarchically according to broadly recognized standards .( Durlauf 1999)
The conflict theory in relation to social stratification argues that stratification, reflects the
distribution of power in society and is therefore a major source of disorder and coercion. (Stanley
1998 : 227). The conflict theory is an acceptable way of understanding and explaining social
stratification however on its own it does not adequately answer all the questions about ... Show

They usually even move to certain residential areas which can only be afforded by people of
their calibre. Likewise those who are getting less rewards probably for doing a less recognised
task will begin to segregate themselves from the above described group. They will associated with
others with whom they share the same economic overview and challenges with. Already we can
see that there is a development of clearly defined classes, which is a major characteristic of social
stratification.
Furthermore those who are in the privileged economic tend to use their power and influence
through media and publicity, educational institutions as well as religious institutions such as
churches to instil an attitude and mindset to their inferiors in which the latter begin to accept their
low positions and status as natural. Karl Marx called this False Consciousness . (Sonnet and Cobb
1973) The conflict theory attempts to explain social stratification economically. Conflict theorists
disregard issues of gender, race and ethnicity and they only focus on the role played by the
economy in bringing about social stratification. They reason that stratification is defined by
relations concerning possession of the means of production as well as work and labour .The
conflict theorists beliefs include that those at the top of hierarchies are there at the expense of those

The Dreamers Chapter Summary
Coates first describes the Dream on page 11 as, Memorial Day cookouts, block associations, and

Dream. The Dream thrives on generalization, on limiting the number of possible questions, on
privileging immediate answer (50). According to the Dream American society is the epitome of
perfection and the Dreamer will do anything to preserve it. Coates addresses the lengths White
Americans are willing to go to preserve the Dream. The Dreams justify the American slave trade
and the decades of enslavement by acknowledging that sometimes people make mistakes. The
Dreamers explain that there were a few mistakes that were part of the building of this country, but
the people who made them meant well. Coates describes America s heritage as filled with torture,

She began by starting an open air school for the children of Calcutta. She did not have any funding
for her school, but that did not stop Mother Teresa. After a couple years many people started
volunteering and helped fund the school.
In 1948, Mother Teresa came across the first woman she cared for. She found a dying woman that
was half eaten by rats and ants lying on the streets of Calcutta. Mother Teresa took the lady to the
hospital, but they refused to admit her. She then would not leave the hospital until they accepted
the lady, and stayed by her side until she died. From that point on she dedicated the majority of her
life to caring for the poor.
Just two years later in 1950, Mother Teresa and her associates were approved within the
archdiocese of Calcutta as the Missionary of Charity. After hearing this she went to the town hall
to ask for a place she could take these people and care for them. An employee of health services
took her to the Temple of Kali, which became known as Nirmal Hrida, which means pure heart.
Nirmal Hirda also became known as the home of the dying. Within 24 hours Mother Teresa and her
fellow sisters started gathering dying Indians from the streets of Calcutta and brought them to

I Am A Better Person Who Has Changed My Own Potential
At the beginning of this course, I kept calling it a therapy course. I was under the impression I
was going to come out of the class a better person who has taken the time to make changes and
reflect. However, as the course progressed I recognized that the class is what you put into it. The
class wasn t going to change me by doing these activities, but it was how these activities
challenged me shift my priorities and simply become more aware. The only change that was going
to be made was if I saw the needfor it and I was committed. I think the course overall encouraged
us, the students, to become more self aware in many different aspects of our lives. In my case, I
think I gained the most from the constant discussion of the importance of reflection and
consciousness. Although, we focused on certain topics throughout the semester like time
management, diet, and gender issues; I think the main objective was to improve my connection
with myself and to realize my own potential. I believe that each person should gain something
different by the end of the semester because the discussions and activities all have a varying affects.
I assume that the level of immersion from students differed depending on the activity and how the
student determined its importance. However, I would think that everyone in class, including
myself, is able to be more open, honest, and truthful with myself. Additionally, I think this course
emphasized the importance for students to always strive to

Cognitive Development (Piaget And Vygotsky) Essay
INTEGRATIVE TERM PAPER
I. Theoretical Perspectives
1. Introduction:
There are a number of theorists that have ideas, charts, and graphs about how a child develops.
Many are used today to determine when a child is mature, when they can feel emotion, and other
important factors to which there are no strict textbook answers for. Piaget and Vygotsky are two
theorists that offer theoretical perspectives on how a child develops.
2. Piaget s Constructivist Theory of Cognitive Development:
Piaget had a phrase that said Assimilation and Accommodation lead to Adaptation. Assimilation is
when a person fits his or her external information in with what he or she already knows. The change
is external in this case. Accommodation is the exact opposite. ... Show more content on

Nurture argument, but that is another story. There are major factors that can disrupt the Stage
theory or the Constructivist theory. A person could have a dysfunction or a special need that needs
to be dealt with. For example, is a little boy has a brain dysfunction that disrupts his learning
abilities, there is a high percentage of chance that he will not develop at the same pace and rate as
other children in his generation and environment.
With the Constructivist Theory, a child may not know how to deal with his or her internal emotions
and/or thoughts. If that child does not know how to deal with his or her own internal workings,
there is going to be much difficulty trying to deal with a personal accommodation. The same thing
goes with assimilation. If a child does not know how to deal with his or her external environment,
there is going to be difficulty changing them and dealing with assimilation.
Dealing with the Developmental Theory (Stage Theory), a child may have the same dysfunction
and not be able to move up the ladder of stages. There are those rare cases where a child may be
stuck at one stage, or a child may not develop everything he or she needs to move on.
A. Organizational and Adaptive Processes that Account for Cognitive Development:
The three adaptive processes for cognitive development are assimilation, accommodation, and
equilibrium. These are three agents

Learning A New Language Essay
In life, I have gone through challenges that have taught me new things. In recent years, I have
been learning to understand a new language: Korean. Korean is an Asian language that is spoken
in Korea. It has different dialects such as the Gyeongsang dialect, Jeolla dialect, Chungcheong
dialect, Gyeonggi dialect, Chejuan dialect, Hamgyong dialect, Hwanghae dialect, and the
standard Korean. Learning this new language and its dialects were very difficult for me because
not many people know how to speak Korean in the region where I live. Although this does cause
a minor inconvenience towards my education, I still strive to perfect and enhance the current
skill that I ve taught myself. As a child, I was taught by my parents how to speak Spanish, as do
most other children that make up my school s population. Since I was only taught Spanish for
the first few years of my life, I had to learn English in my primary school years through my
teacher. Learning the new language was not as hard as I had expected because I would
frequently hear it when my mother would talk to her friends. Therefore, learning English came
naturally, I was not forced. Up until recently, I have only understood English and Spanish, so I
decided to get myself busy and start learning a new language, Korean. I was very motivated to
learn Korean because I started watching Korean dramas and I wanted to read a book in Korean.
When I told my mom about my plan to learn Korean, she motivated me quite a lot that I felt

Case Study Of Tanishq
Tanishq started in 1994 and challenged the established family jeweller system prevalent in India.
They have set up production and sourcing bases with thorough research of the jewellery crafts of
India. Their factory located at Hosur, Tamil Nadu (India) spreads over 135,000 sq ft
(12,500 m2). Tanishq was launched as a range of jewellery and jewellery watches meant for the
European American markets, but later on shifted focus on Indian markets to tap the domestic
opportunity too.
They spread awareness to the public about alleged impurity in Gold .
Tanishq introduced innovations like Karatmeter, the only nondestructive means to check the purity
of gold and machine made jewellery. In India, Tanishq has country wide presence. In November

Industry watchers were extremely skeptical of Tanishq and doubts were being cast over its
prospects. Tanishq began by offering jewellery in the 18 carat gold range, with designs borrowed
heavily from contemporary European brands. The company justified its decision saying that it
wanted to be
different from the traditional Indian offerings.
Tanishq was the largest overseas chain in US with 1,200 outlets. In the year 2000, exports
contributed 10% to the company s turnover. The story of Tanishq, once written off as a losing
proposition, making a remarkable turnaround was an example of a company single mindedly
working to make its own mark in the tradition bound Indian jewellery market. Behind this success
was, of course, a well planned and wellexecuted marketing plan.

Paper Planner
I am definitely a person who likes to feel like I have accomplished something at the end of each
day. It makes me feel like the day wasn t wasted. Normally, I use a paper planner to schedule all
the things that need to get done. For our class assignment, I used the calendar app in Office 365
to create my schedule. It took me way longer than expected to get it the way I wanted, so I will
probably stay with paperplanning. My family and job rank with schoolas my main priorities. This
doesn t leave much free time. I knew I was busy, but seeing it on paper is almost frightening.
Once the regular school year resumes in the fall, I will have a lot less time. Seeing the lack of
extra time in my schedule pushes me to be more intentional with the time I have. I try to focus on
spending time being with my children whenever possible. My girls and I have a favorite show we

Knowing that I have my class work scheduled to be done with days to spare in case of an

Norma Rae- a Leadership Analysis
NORMA RAE If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to
foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or

represent the spirit of Norma Rae and the power of women. The quotation highlights the two main
points shown in the film; the strength and determination of women and the idea of equal
representation for all. The film portrays the transformation of an oppressed woman, who was
destined to be a follower, into a charismatic leader who bought about changes that benefited more

To begin with, she is a ball of raw energy. She is a rebel without a cause, an anger stricken, and

try to tame her by offering a raise and buying her out. At first, she plays into their hands, but
realizes a very important lesson of life that to find strength, one must be with the people; in unity
lies the greatest potent power. She is street smart enough to comprehend that having power within
the group is far more valuable than just a position of power outside. In a way, this throws light
upon the potency of the plebeians and their collective power. To balance out this compassion

Analysis Of Loveliest Of Trees By William Blake
Intense, dark, cold, empty, merciless, those are just mere descriptions of him. Him, the
atramentous shadow, the one who pursues individuals waiting for the perfect time to seize them
away. His presence, even the mentioning of his name, is invariably menacing. He radiates
despair to the individuals he inquires. He oversees age, personality, therefore he does not
distinguish. He does not care. Does he feel lonely? What is his urgency to take individuals with
him for the rest of eternity? This obsidious shadow known as death, roams night and day. He
saunters without rest. A. E. Housman, Edwin Denby, and William Blake each have a different
perspective towards death. Housman depicts death as an impatient being, Denby illustrates it as
something that fights against us, while Blake interprets it through spiritual glasses. The themes in
Loveliest of Trees by A. E. Housman, I had heard it s a fight by Edwin Denby, and The Lamb by
William Blake best reveals the author s purpose about death. Moreover, the overall theme in
Loveliest of Trees is that death is an impatient being who does not give individuals enough time to
contemplate on the beauty of life. In the poem, the narrator compares other types of trees to the
cherry tree. In fact, the narrator states that compared to other trees the cherry tree is the loveliest
amongst all. The narrator mentions how at the age of 20 the cherry tree existence became known to

Teacher Reflection
essons from the Classroom Page 1
Introduction
The most rewarding aspect of teaching is the impact the teachers have on their students.
Whether it be because the classroom atmosphere was so much fun or the teacher really got the
student interested in a specific subject, the impact a teacher has on someone can last a lifetime.
While
I am far from being someone s favorite teacher, I hope I can make an impact on the lives of as many
students as possible through inspiring confidence and creating a respectful and fun classroom
environment. In just three weeks at International Teacher Training Organization (ITTO) in
Guadalajara,
Mexico I have been able to improve many of my teaching skills through classroom experience and
instructor input sessions which has resulted in me becoming a better teacher for all students.
What is a Good Teacher?
While teaching naturally entails relaying information to students, a good teacher encompasses so
much more. It is important for teachers to be able to think on their feet, readjust their lesson if
unforeseen obstacles arise, and also inspire the students to learn. Every lesson will bring a new
unanticipated issue into the classroom that is simply a fact of teaching. A good teacher can
acknowledge the issue and adjust accordingly. If the technology stops working or only half the
class shows up, then the teacher should be able to take it all in stride and alter the lesson so it
works for the circumstances. In addition teachers are the cheerleaders of their subjects, they are
there to inspire students to learn from their lessons. While not every students will have a burning
desire to know more about the topic of the class, the teacher needs to be able to keep the classroom
atmosphere positive and engaging for all students. It is also extremely important that the teacher
fosters a sense of community among the students so they feel at ease in the classroom and
connected to their teacher and their peers. Creating a welcoming atmosphere is key in a student s
learning.
According to the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship at Georgetown
University, good teachers, are prepared, set clear and fair expectations, have a positive attitude, are
patient with students, and assess

Peter And Catherine The Great In Russia
1. Describe the role of Peter and Catherine the Great in Russia. Did they help the society? What
were some of the main differences between both reigns? Look for pictures that illustrate those
changes. They are attributed with westernizing Russia and reformed the country using models used
in Europe. Both Peter and Catherine the Great focused on St. Petersburg as Peter established it as
the capital; whereas Catherine focused on expanding the beauty of the city. While these are
incidents of where their rule benefitted Russia, there are also examples of where their rule hurt
Russia. For instance, Peter worked at expanding the autocracy while enforcing the servitude on the
peasants. The differences between these rulers was that Peter strove to add governmental features
to Russia, such as growing the Russian army and adopting certain habits he had observed in
Western countries. Catherine, however, focused on adding to the prestige of Russia by adding new
buildings and incorporating art into St. Petersburg which added not structural changes, but was
effective in making the city more beautiful.

Borders of life and lands Gregory
Boca Chica is municipality of the Dominican Republic, located upon the island of Hispaniola in the
Gulf of ChiriquГ. The history of conflict between the Dominican side of the island (influenced by
Spanish colonial rule) and the Western Haitian side is long standing, dating back to the 1880 s.
Upon the modern day landscape there is an imaginary line which divides Hispaniola into a land of
two countries. One side of which is Haiti and the other the Dominican Republic. It is on the
Dominican side where Gregory focuses his ethnography.
Through anecdotal interviews bureaucratic and social borders are described, which not only
exclude and disempower the Haitian residents of the country, but which also also alienate
citizens of Dominican descent due to their financial state. Dominican parents are required to
register the birth of a child at office of Civil Registry so as to be issued with a birth certificate.
When the child reaches the age of eighteen, this certificate can than be exchanged for an adult
cГ©dula , which is required for voting, securing formal employment and obtaining licenses and
other documents. However, many parents, especially those in rural areas, may delay or neglect
registering their children s birth, through oversight, ignorance, or lack of resources to travel or to

EFFECT OF EXERCISE TRAINING ON NEUROMUSCULAR JUNCTION MOLECULAR
PATHWAYS:
The benefits of physical exercise for humans are known for many years and physical training can
interfere positively in the up regulation and protein expression of several molecules and growth
factors. Firstly, the physical exercise can alter the expression of Glial cell line derived neurotropic
factor (GDNF) differently in slow and fast muscle fibers, and thereby affect peripheral motor
neurons. Wehrwein, Roskelley Spitsbergen (2011) showed that 4 weeks of walking exercise on a
treadmill increased GDNF content in soleus, gastrocnemius and pectoralis major muscles, while
limb immobilization generated opposite effect. In addition, increased expression of Neurotrophin ...

Zero Day Exploit
On the 26th of April 2014 a zero day vulnerability in Internet Explorer (IE) was discovered by
security vendor FireEye . The exploit targeted defense and financial services companies using
IE9 through IE11 and was found on a very popular U.S. website. The malicious code was
removed from the website as soon as the host was notified, however in Microsoft advisory
#2963983 released the same day FireEye announced the exploit discovery, Microsoft provided
limited guidance and did not state when it would release a fix. Historically patches have occurred
either before or on the day regular security updates were released on a monthly cycle (typically the
second Tuesday of each month).
Until a patch was released, user s options ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to the patch, the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US CERT) advised
companies to use an alternative browser until a fix was available, however for many companies
that was not an option since business applications often depended on IE. The attackers discovered
by FireEye took advantage of the fact that most people use PCs in administrator mode, which
gave full access to the system. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain
the same user rights as the current user. Once breaking into the system of such a user, the hackers
proceeded to move within the PC or network looking for ways to escalate the privileges and gain
access to more data and/or systems.
Both the Microsoft advisory and security update stated the best practice would be that companies
should only provide administrative access to people who have a need for it in doing their job.
Some experts recommend segmenting the corporate network to confine people to specific areas,
which would also contain the mischief of hackers. Any organization that has properly segmented
their network will be at low risk to sensitive data being accessed as a result of a breach related to
this attack, Brandon Hoffman, vice president of cybersecurity at RedSeal Networks has stated.
Other experts say that employees often find ways around these restrictions, which would then
provide means that cybercriminals could exploit. Ross Barrett, senior manager of Rapid7 stated, You

The Wallpaper Of Purple By Steven Spielberg
The Sexist Shade of Purple
If Jaws was the movie that jumpstarted Steven Spielberg s career in the film industry, then The
Color Purple was the movie that was able to distinguish Steven from any other movie director
during the time. All of Spielberg s movies prior to 1985 were generally movies of either action
packed adventure or unnerving horror, but once Steven Spielberg announced that he would be
doing a movie based on Alice Walker s book, The Color of Purple, no one knew what to expect.
Jump 31 years later, Steven Spielberg s The Color of Purple, is still seen as a film masterpiece that
deals with a grotesque yet historical insight of African Americanculture back in the early 1900 s.
Through the depiction of visual art form of film, Steven Spielberg was able to highlight certain
aspects of everyday African American life back then such as the existence of sexism, racism and
the importance of familial relationships. However, Steven Spielberg emphasizes and brings to the
spotlight the aspect of sexism of the historical African American community. With a movie full of
uncomfortable and daunting scenes, Steven Spielberg is able to underline the evil social facet of
sexism faced by African American women in their community in the past. Steven wants his
audience to know that side of African American history and wants us to view African American
women differently because of itIn the very beginning of the movie, we are shown a brutal scene of

The Suicide Car And Truck Bombings
I chose the August 1998 simultaneous suicide car and truck bombings of the U.S. embassies in
Nairobi and Tanzania because I believe that not only were the attacks a precursor of how future
terrorist attacks were to be planned and executed, but it was also the first successful terrorist strike
by the al Qaedanetwork. The first bombing occurred at the American Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya
on August 7, 1998. The attack killed 213, injuring thousands over 150 people blinded by flying
glass. Approximately nine minutes later, the American Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania was
also bombed, killing 11 and wounding 85 (Wright, 2006). Both bombings were the result of
planned attacks by al Qaeda and with the approval of Osama Bin Laden.
On a personal level, I had only been with the FBI a little less than a year, and the bombings were
my first experience in an international terrorism matter. It was also served as a harbinger of the
new direction the FBI would be taking. One of by squad mates, Bill, who was formerly a Marine
Corp officer, had previously worked at one of the embassies. He was immediately deployed to the
region in a supporting investigative role. The needs of the Bureau far outweighed his obligation to
our drug squad in Miami or the FBI Miami Division for that matter.
Why was it precursor of how future terrorist attacks would be planned and executed? The
prevailing maxim from decades past was the use of conventional weapons by terrorist to make a

The Human Lungs
Our lungs are vital organs that fuel us with a life sustaining gas: oxygen. They are also important to
ensure survival. In this report, there will be information about the size, structure, function, and
diseases/health problems of the human lungs.
The size of the human lungs varies due to gender, size of body, inheritance, and age. A common
way to measure the size of the lungs is by total lung capacity (TLC), and the average TLC for a
human adult is between 5.8 6L. The normal mass of an adult human lung is between 300 400g.
There are two lungs: the left lung, and the right lung. They are similar, and have a covering of
two air tight bags called the pleural sacs. The whole lungs are divided into lobes. The right lung
has three lobes, and the left lung has two lobes. The right lung s lobes are: the superior lobe, the
inferior lobe, and the middle lobe. On the other hand, the left lung s lobes include: the superior
lobe, and the inferior lobe. In each lung, the inferior and superior lobe is separated by the oblique
fissure, and, in the right lung, the superior and middle lobe is separated by the horizontal fissure.
The actual inside of a lung can be further divided into two zones. There is the conducting zone that
consists of the main bronchi, the lobar bronchi, the segmental bronchi, the bronchioles, and the
terminal bronchioles. There is also the respiratory zone, which is made up of the alveolar

Analysis Of The Movie Platoon
The movie Platoon reveals many different things about the nature of warfare in the post war era.
Platoon shows us what it was like being a soldier during that time. From drug use being so relevant
during that time to cope with stress to soldiers showing ruthlessness in many different scenarios like
the killing of many innocent people, and even betrayal within each other.
The drug abuse during the post war era was very great and relevant. Soldiers needed a way to
relieve their stress during the war. Thoughts of being with their parents once again would haunt
them. Drugs like marijuana and alcohol were used daily to cope with their daily stress. These
drugs are known to play with your brain which could ve caused indecisiveness or bad decisions.
The actions of one could displease another and lead to conflicts. In the movie Platoon, soldiers
would gather in their camps and use these drugs. They would use these drugs because they didn t
know if they would ever go back home and these drugs helped them escape these thoughts. These
drugs could have led to unprofessional behavior and lead to conflicts between their own people.
For some soldiers, drugs have helped them continue to fight the war and for other soldiers, it
created a very toxic environment.
The post war era was also a very ruthless era. With the killing of many innocent Vietnamese
people to the raping of little girls. The movie Platoon shows us just how little anybody cared about
these innocent people. Since this was the post war era many soldiers had the fear that some of the
innocent people could have been fighters, so they wouldn t want to take any chances of dying and
murder them before they could make any moves. A scene from Platoon shows when the squad
invaded a village and had all the villagers sit outside. Sergeant Barnes had killed the elderly lady
and then had threatened to kill the man s daughter. Sergeant Elias comes by and sees Sergeant
Barnes with a pistol to a young girls head and stops him immediately, Elias fights Sergeant
Barnes in order to call off the order of killing the whole village. Another scene would be after the
squad was done setting fire to the village, some of the soldiers took little girls to a little spot and

Blank Verse and Other Verse Forms : Browning was a great metrical artist. He experimented with
number of stanza forms and rhyme schemes. Browning has written My Last Duchess in heroic
couplets but the sense runs so naturally from the one line to the other that the reader hardly

speed. It is, therefore, that from the point of view of language, My Last Duchess is on of the most
lovable poems of Browning. One feels like reading the following lines of the poem, over and over

TEACHING NOTE
op yo Arley Merchandise Corporation
Objectives and Synopsis
The Arley Merchandise Corporation represents an example of a corporate issuer attempting to
realize a higher price for its common shares by offering potential investors a money back guarantee.
In this instance, the guarantee takes the form of a European put option (called a Right in the case)
which is exercisable two years from the date of issue.
In some ways, the case represents an example of the design of a security to overcome information
asymmetries in the capital markets. Arley s management has projected a highly confident picture to
the underwriters that the company s future profit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The unit proposed for sale in the Arley financing then can be characterized as the sale of a share of
common stock plus a two year European put option with a strike price of $8 or, alternatively,
through put call parity, as the sale of a two year zero coupon note with face value $8 plus a two
year European call option on common stock with an exercise price of $8. Thus, the value of the
unit can be broken down in two ways: tC
Market value of the unit
= Market value of stock + market value of put option
= Market value of zero coupon bond + market value of call option
No
Applying the Black Scholes model with a two year riskless rate of 11% per annum, an initial
stock price of $6.50, and a volatility of 40% (as indicated in the assignment question), yields
values of the put and call options of $1.44 and $1.45, respectively.1 Exhibit 4 shows historical
volatility data for comparable firms. The instructor can engage the students in a discussion of
how to use this information in the analysis. The Appendix to this teaching note contains a
discussion of these comparables and sensitivity analysis. However, Black Scholes is not
necessarily applicable because of default risk associated with this particular put option. That is,
put option holders will wish to exercise their right to receive cash at precisely the time that Arley
s stock is low, which is also when the firm will least be able to fund the $8

Beginners Guide to Essay Writing
As many of my fellow batch mates are facing the writer s block in completing Essay I decided to
write this guide to help them, so that they can put to best use the last few days they have with their
family members (current and would be).
DISCLAIMER First and the most important thing. This is not for those unearthly souls who
want to touch that legendary upper word limit. Try to be humble and be content with 80%. It s
not that bad a number you see. This is also not for those who think it s their god assigned duty to
find if what you are answering is what was asked. So if you are one of these, the best action you
can take now with respect to this document is click the small X button in the top right corner of this
document. This is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
10. Stretch the meaning of the word describe to its limits. When they say describe, you
DESCRIBE. No detail is unnecessary and no information trivial unless you have crossed the word
limit.
11. Anyone from IT industry will know the importance of reuse of work already done by you or
someone else does, even if that reuse meant copy paste and portraying it as new effort and billing
the client for the same. Use that approach in your answers. For example answer question 9 properly
and you do not need to answer question 15 again. All you will need is a trimming of 50 words.
12. I have skipped question 13 as I had no intention of creating an imaginary situation in my
pretty normal and straight forward life of 24 years which would have asked me to act in a non
traditional way. In case you feel you can do it, then you are most welcome.
13. When the whole world is for gender equality we as future managers should not lag behind.
Bring gender equality in your answers. When you are referring to a third person use him or her, he
or she instead of just him and he.
14. If you were not a part of any social or cultural organization then you cannot skip question 14.
Some senior has already posted as to how you can write about the clubs you were part of in the
college. And there is no shortage of clubs and committees in any college. Cultural club, movie club,

Pollution Water Pollution
Did you know that out beautiful ocean is being polluted by 12.7 million tonnes of rubbish each
year? Our oceans are being polluted by us, which is unnecessary as we need the water clean
because 97% of our water supply is from there. If we continue to keep mistreating it, we will be
left with only 3% of water to use in everyday situations like showering and watering the garden. It
isn t enough especially with the growth in population. Did you know that 30% of all CO2
commissions is absorbed by the ocean? So, all this proves that our ocean is essential for living.
Thankfully, we have two amazing heros Andrew Turton and Pete Ceginsle have invented a amazing
invention called the Seabin.
What is the Seabin?
We are so incredibly lucky Andrew and Peter have found a solution to fix what we have called
water pollution. They invented the Seabin which is a cylinder that floated upright. It has a water
pump in it that sucks up all the floating debris and oil on the surface. The Seabin has been very
successful as it collectes approximately 1.5 kilograms of rubbish everyday. $50,000 was raised
towards the Seabin protect because each bin costs around $3,800 to make. And to make it even
more Eco friendly, each bins has been created from 75 100% recyclable materials. All the rubbish
they catch by using the Seabin, they us that to create more and more Seabins.
Problems with water pollution
They are so many problems for us and our marine life due to careless people littering each day.
Did you know shat on average, each person throws away around 2.7 kilogram of rubbish
everyday. Do you every wonder how much of that ends up in the ocean, killing and hurting our
innocent animals? Think of every piece of plastic you leave in the environment. It will soon end
up in the environment and be there for another 400 years. Did you know, that 37 million gallons
of oil are spilled into out oceans, worldwide each year? The oil then sits on the water, preventing
animals to get sunlight. This causes a vitamin D difisancy, which could potentially cause them to
die out. Oil spills have have killed and harmed approximately 82,000 birds over 102 species. Other
animals that are hurt from oil spills are animals with blow holes and feathers.

Billy Wilder Essay
4/13/12
Paper #3: Library Research
Billy Wilder
Billy Wilder s work today remains masterful and memorable. From his skilled screenwriting to his
directing, Wilder holds a key position in cinema history. Wilder s stylistic and thematic elements
are recognizable and give off a complex reflection of his American and European cultural
influences. I think that Billy Wilder should be considered an auteur even if he is not already
considered one, for his personal film style and the mere fact that his cynical vision allowed him to
create many admirable films across a number of genre boundaries throughout his career. However,
film critics tend to disagree and believe that Wilder was too cynical, while also complaining about
the lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sarris also argues that an auteur is a director whose films are formalistic. I think auteurism has
less to do with form and is further based off of a director s symbolic narrative structure. Wilder
uses a lot of symbolic narrative structure in his films and they played a huge role in American
pop culture. This is what NoГ«l Carroll, Professor of the Philosophy of Art at the University of
Wisconsin Madison, had to say about Sarris s formalistic theory on auteurism, In film studies, the
examination of the style or form of the individual film is usually subordinated to frameworks that
conceptualize the style or form of the individual film as exemplary of something else, usually the
personal style of a director, or a period style, or the style of an influential movement or school.
(Carroll, pg. 1).
Billy Wilder s film not only combine social realism, crime, moral degeneracy and humor; but they
represent cultural, political and personal identity through the characters and narratives he
constructs. Wilder directed a number of genre films ranging from comedy, film noir, romance,
drama, adventure and even fantasy. These different genre aspects of narrative and character are
essential to analyzing or critiquing Wilder s body of work and his significance as an auteur.
According to NoГ«l Simsolo, a famous French author, Wilder s thematic approach looks at the
world with a cynical eye, but... knows how to make people laugh.

Legalizing Recreational Marijuana
IV.Legalizing recreational marijuana is partly responsible for the rise in teenage and adult use as
well as accidents related to DUID. The rise in use and accidents should be considered as this
reflects back on the safety of our citizens.
A.The New York Times article speaks to various studies that were performed relating to the
adolescence use of marijuana nationwide and how users are getting younger and younger, from 8
12th graders. Poison control center has seen an increase in calls ad younger users are now

Legalizing marijuana would make the drug easily accessible, which could potential lead to abuse
and potential health effects in adolescence and adults that abuse the drug. This law could
potentially increase crimes and the number of arrests for driving under the influence of drugs,
which puts the safety of our citizens at risk. States should consider their options in order to fight
legalizing of marijuana in their states. This paper provides some concepts around the impacts a
state could incur and encourages the state to look beyond dollars earned and to ensure the state
understands some of the impacts associated such as higher accidents and fatalities, increased
criminal activity and a higher number homeless people. This could be solved by maintaining the
federal regulations on controlled substances by the federal government. It is encouraged that the
state careful consider if this is a viable option for the state and consider enhancing the policies
around medicinal marijuana

class between females and males who attend schools. Ideas of what women and men are suppose

change to gender roles mainly women.
Gender roles were planted in political, not religious and ideology, which was after the American
Revolution. Men sustained to have public responsibilities in this emerging country. Men were
presumed to be good neighbors, educated voters, and in charge businessmen. To anticipate boys to

The Federalists No. 10 Analysis
Have you heard of the word factions? Well, if you haven t factions are groups of citizens who
unite under a common interest or goal. James Madison wrote The Federalists No.10 , which was
about how he felt about factions The Federalists No.10 was set out to be heard by the American
citizens, but mainly the citizens of New York. James Madisonwas also known for his important
contribution to the overall creation of the Constitution that earned him the nickname Father of the
Constitution later in life. Madison wanted to ratify the Constitution also; Madison, John Jay and
Anthony Hamilton (other federalist) wrote the Federalist Papers. In The Federalists No.10 James
Madison Says The latent causes of faction are thus sown in the nature of man ; meaning if there
were going to be factions they had to be controlled. By removing the causes of factions, the liberty
that is essential to its existence is destroyed. Madison states that Liberty is to faction what air is to
fire, an aliment without which it instantly expires . Therefore, it is somewhat quite foolish to
abolish liberty considering it is essential to political life. Madison thinks it would be foolish to

In the fact of getting a large republic there had to be multiple amounts of controlled factions that
kept one another from becoming too powerful. Multiple factions play a positive role by
counterbalancing one another. Madison suggests that government can control itself better, if power
is balanced so that each person check on the other. In comparison to a mother and a child, the
mother is going to make sure the child doesn t fall flat on their face and the child is going to do
the same. But not only would the federal system they wanted would be broken into legislative,
executive, and judicial branches(separation of powers), the legislative would be bicameral, with
each house s roles as discrete as possible by different responsibilities and different term

  • 2. The Use Of Artificial Light Sources And Prevent Any... The majority of laboratories housing Xenopus laevis make use of artificial light sources and prevent any natural lighting from entering the laboratory. Although Xenopus laevis thrive and reproduce over a wide range of photoperiod, recommendations are periods of 14 hour light and 10 hour dark which mimic conditions in a natural habitat (Major Wassersug, 1998). Inappropriate photoperiods, light deprivation or continuous light may prove detrimental and cause symptoms of lethargy, sterility and even death (Hayes et al., 1998). Slow and steady dimming and illuminating of lights is preferred to abruptly switching on and off, as this allows the animalto adapt to the change and is potentially less stressful to the animal (Reed, 2005). 2.3.6.2Humidity Xenopus laevis frogs are completely aquatic. Therefore, controlling humidity levels in an aquarium housing the tanks for these animals is not as crucial as for a species that spends prolonged periods of time on dry land (Reed, 2005). 2.3.6.3Water provision Quantity and depth of water provisions are poorly outlined, but as long as the animal can swim around freely, lie fully submerged underwater, avoid contact with other animals or tank walls if desired and swim in any direction without obstruction or hindrance from other animals or tank walls, it is considered acceptable. For once in his life, Junior has a chance to be somebody. Junior identifies with his Indian tribe in the sense that he lives on a reservation and the fact that he comes from a poor family. I wish I were magical, but I am really just a poor ass reservation kid living with his poor ass family on the poor ass Spokane Indian Reservation (7). Junior identifies with his Caucasian side because he goes to an all white school and because of his intelligence. Petrified wood is not wood (84). Junior then goes on to explain how it works and the smartest kid in the class, Gordy, explains that he is right when the teacher doesn t believe him. Junior s Caucasian identity overpowers his Indian identity because Caucasians in general are more privileged and are smarter than the kids at Junior s old school, Welpinit. Based off many aspects of Junior s conditions and ethnic background, other people and Junior have expectations of what his future will look like. An internal expectation that Junior has of himself is that he will follow the continuing cycle of his family. He believes he ll never be able to go after his dreams in life and live on a reservation forever. But we reservation Indians don t get to realize our dreams. We don t get those chances. Or ... Methodology This section contains the mathematical background and stepwise procedure for EnKF algorithm, KL expansion and ANN based proxy model. Integration of proxy model with EnKF algorithms for time efficient assisted history matching is also explained in this section. Ensemble Kalman Filter Algorithm EnKF is a Monte Carlo data assimilation method, which has gained popularity over recent years for assisted history matching due to its ability to include available observations sequentially in time. Aanonsen et al. (2009) reviewed the application of EnKF in reservoir engineering for estimation of reservoir parameters. EnKF procedure utilizes an ensemble of model states (e.g. realizations of reservoir properties such as porosity and permeability) to estimate the covariance matrices used in model updating process. Initial ensemble is generated based on the prior knowledge of the reservoir derived from various sources as well logs, core and seismic analysis. In general, simulation techniques such as Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS) and Sequential Indicator Simulation (SIS) are used to generate multiple realizations. These realizations are consistent with the initial state of the reservoir. In the next step, all the reservoir models in ensemble are forwarded typically using the numerical reservoir simulation. Mean and covariance of predicted model states is calculated and used in turn to calculate Kalman gain. Next, in the update (or analysis) step, each geological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Importance Of Innate Ideas In John LockeBy David Locke Another problem with Locke s insistence that innate ideas do not exist, is that necessary truths, that is, contingent propositions (2+2=4), cannot be acquired through experience alone. If necessary truths exist, that would at least infer that innate ideas exist and are merely revealed through experience for necessary truths are a priori, which implies that innate knowledge exists as a disposition. Beyond this, there is the possibility that we can form an idea without a corresponding sensory impression. While not without its flaws, the argument that one can generate an idea without first being exposed to the relevant sensory experience is illustrated in Hume s missing shade of blue example. Locke claims that in order for an idea to be in the mind, we must be conscious of it, which indicates that there is not much leeway allowed for memory, that is, a power of the mind to revive perceptions it once had. The question then, is whether we can know things without being conscious of them. It seems as though it is possible, but it is important to note that regardless if we can or not, what is unconscious must have once been conscious. For this reason, a potential response Locke would give to Hume with reference to the missing shade of blue, is that even if one is able to fill it in, they would still be using their senses in some way to access that knowledge and perhaps it would be knowledge made out of a long train of proofs, which highlights the mental fatigue factor in play. With regards to Locke s theory of knowledge, he holds that knowledge is divided into three types: intuitive knowledge (knowledge the mind can attain without the need for recognizing something else), demonstrative knowledge (a kind of knowledge cannot occur without the help of previous information), and sensation knowledge (knowledge that results from empirical knowledge of the known object). As such, it follows that our knowledge of our own existence is intuitive, our knowledge of God s existence is demonstrative, and our knowledge of things present to sense is sensitive. Locke believes that intuitive knowledge is real knowledge and the most important degree of knowledge wherein there is no need for inference as the Mind is at no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Normally, I use a paper planner to schedule all the things that need to get done. For our class assignment, I used the calendar app in Office 365 to create my schedule. It took me way longer than expected to get it the way I wanted, so I will probably stay with paperplanning. My family and job rank with schoolas my main priorities. This doesn t leave much free time. I knew I was busy, but seeing it on paper is almost frightening. Once the regular school year resumes in the fall, I will have a lot less time. Seeing the lack of extra time in my schedule pushes me to be more intentional with the time I have. I try to focus on spending time being with my children whenever possible. Norma Rae- a Leadership Analysis NORMA RAE If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation. Abigail Adams (www.wisdomquotes.com) The above stated lines very truly represent the spirit of Norma Rae and the power of women. The quotation highlights the two main points shown in the film; the strength and determination of women and the idea of equal representation for all. The bosses try to tame her by offering a raise and buying her out. At first, she plays into their hands, but realizes a very important lesson of life that to find strength, one must be with the people; in unity lies the greatest potent power. She is street smart enough to comprehend that having power within the group is far more valuable than just a position of power outside. In a way, this throws light upon the potency of the plebeians and their collective power. To balance out this compassion authority equation of Norma and for a successful revolution to take place, in walks Reuben Warshofsky (played by Ron Leibman), an experienced outsider, an urban union leader who knows the laws and the legal system and just needs an insider to legitimize and expedite his goals from within. • 24. Analysis Of Loveliest Of Trees By William Blake Intense, dark, cold, empty, merciless, those are just mere descriptions of him. Him, the atramentous shadow, the one who pursues individuals waiting for the perfect time to seize them away. His presence, even the mentioning of his name, is invariably menacing. He radiates despair to the individuals he inquires. He oversees age, personality, therefore he does not distinguish. He does not care. Does he feel lonely? What is his urgency to take individuals with him for the rest of eternity? This obsidious shadow known as death, roams night and day. He saunters without rest. A. E. Housman, Edwin Denby, and William Blake each have a different perspective towards death. Housman depicts death as an impatient being, Denby illustrates it as something that fights against us, while Blake interprets it through spiritual glasses. The themes in Loveliest of Trees by A. E. Housman, I had heard it s a fight by Edwin Denby, and The Lamb by William Blake best reveals the author s purpose about death. Moreover, the overall theme in Loveliest of Trees is that death is an impatient being who does not give individuals enough time to contemplate on the beauty of life. In the poem, the narrator compares other types of trees to the cherry tree. In fact, the narrator states that compared to other trees the cherry tree is the loveliest amongst all. • 25. Teacher Reflection essons from the Classroom Page 1 Introduction The most rewarding aspect of teaching is the impact the teachers have on their students. Whether it be because the classroom atmosphere was so much fun or the teacher really got the student interested in a specific subject, the impact a teacher has on someone can last a lifetime. While I am far from being someone s favorite teacher, I hope I can make an impact on the lives of as many students as possible through inspiring confidence and creating a respectful and fun classroom environment. In just three weeks at International Teacher Training Organization (ITTO) in Guadalajara, Mexico I have been able to improve many of my teaching skills through classroom experience and instructor input sessions which has resulted in me becoming a better teacher for all students. What is a Good Teacher? While teaching naturally entails relaying information to students, a good teacher encompasses so much more. It is important for teachers to be able to think on their feet, readjust their lesson if unforeseen obstacles arise, and also inspire the students to learn. Every lesson will bring a new unanticipated issue into the classroom that is simply a fact of teaching. A good teacher can acknowledge the issue and adjust accordingly. If the technology stops working or only half the class shows up, then the teacher should be able to take it all in stride and alter the lesson so it works for the circumstances. In addition teachers are the cheerleaders of their subjects, they are there to inspire students to learn from their lessons. While not every students will have a burning desire to know more about the topic of the class, the teacher needs to be able to keep the classroom atmosphere positive and engaging for all students. It is also extremely important that the teacher fosters a sense of community among the students so they feel at ease in the classroom and connected to their teacher and their peers. Creating a welcoming atmosphere is key in a student s learning. According to the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship at Georgetown University, good teachers, are prepared, set clear and fair expectations, have a positive attitude, are patient with students, and assess ... Look for pictures that illustrate those changes. They are attributed with westernizing Russia and reformed the country using models used in Europe. Both Peter and Catherine the Great focused on St. Petersburg as Peter established it as the capital; whereas Catherine focused on expanding the beauty of the city. While these are incidents of where their rule benefitted Russia, there are also examples of where their rule hurt Russia. For instance, Peter worked at expanding the autocracy while enforcing the servitude on the peasants. The differences between these rulers was that Peter strove to add governmental features to Russia, such as growing the Russian army and adopting certain habits he had observed in Western countries. Catherine, however, focused on adding to the prestige of Russia by adding new buildings and incorporating art into St. Petersburg which added not structural changes, but was effective in making the city more beautiful. 2. Prior to the patch, the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US CERT) advised companies to use an alternative browser until a fix was available, however for many companies that was not an option since business applications often depended on IE. The attackers discovered by FireEye took advantage of the fact that most people use PCs in administrator mode, which gave full access to the system. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the current user. Once breaking into the system of such a user, the hackers proceeded to move within the PC or network looking for ways to escalate the privileges and gain access to more data and/or systems. Both the Microsoft advisory and security update stated the best practice would be that companies should only provide administrative access to people who have a need for it in doing their job. Some experts recommend segmenting the corporate network to confine people to specific areas, which would also contain the mischief of hackers. Any organization that has properly segmented their network will be at low risk to sensitive data being accessed as a result of a breach related to this attack, Brandon Hoffman, vice president of cybersecurity at RedSeal Networks has stated. The first bombing occurred at the American Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya on August 7, 1998. The attack killed 213, injuring thousands over 150 people blinded by flying glass. Approximately nine minutes later, the American Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania was also bombed, killing 11 and wounding 85 (Wright, 2006). Wilder uses a lot of symbolic narrative structure in his films and they played a huge role in American pop culture. This is what NoГ«l Carroll, Professor of the Philosophy of Art at the University of Wisconsin Madison, had to say about Sarris s formalistic theory on auteurism, In film studies, the examination of the style or form of the individual film is usually subordinated to frameworks that conceptualize the style or form of the individual film as exemplary of something else, usually the personal style of a director, or a period style, or the style of an influential movement or school. (Carroll, pg. 1). Billy Wilder s film not only combine social realism, crime, moral degeneracy and humor; but they represent cultural, political and personal identity through the characters and narratives he constructs. Wilder directed a number of genre films ranging from comedy, film noir, romance, drama, adventure and even fantasy. These different genre aspects of narrative and character are essential to analyzing or critiquing Wilder s body of work and his significance as an auteur.
