The proposal is for a fashion photography project based on the ghosts of Nunnington Hall. The photographer will shoot a model dressed in three different outfits made from a single white sheet to represent ghosts. The goal is to combine fashion and discovery to tell the story of the ghosts in the hall. The photos could appear in fashion magazines to promote the stately home and its ghosts. The photographer is influenced by Nick Knight's creative use of fashion to tell stories and wants to portray the ghosts in an avant-garde yet historically fitting style. The main subjects will be ghosts and fashion, shown through an updated interpretation of the hall's past. What type of photography are you going to produce?
The type of photography I am going to do is fashion photography. I have chosen this application
because there are lots of different ideas that you can produce from it. You can be very creative
with fashion and interpret in different ways. From fashion photography the photography I am
going to produce is going to be based around ghosts of Nunnington hall. I am going to produce a
ghost through the fashion creating three different looks from the same white sheet. This is using
the theme of discovery and combining fashion to create a Discovery of Ghosts in this hall.
What contexts could this type of photography be used in?
The context that this photography could be use in is in a Fashion Magazine. With the fashion I am
going to create it is avant-garde type fashion. This could be used as a clothes collection for Catwalk
or for a magazine like Vogue or Elle, It could even be used in a magazine like Hello which is a bit
upper class from you normal celebrity gossip magazine. The photography can be used to promote
the ghosts at a stately home and could be used in special Halloween print.
Who are your influences for this project?
My influence for this project is that I love fashion photography and I think that you can be so
creative with the clothes and it can mean so many different things for example a photography Nick
knight has influenced to do fashion because his images he is so creative and uses fashion to create
a story and he mesmerises the audience by the post production work to perfect the images. After
reading about the ghosts at the hall this influenced me to do a idea based around the discovery of
these ghosts. This inspired to use fashion to dress a model in white to create a ghost like figure and
make the ghost fashionable with how the ghosts look. Influenced by nick knight’s very original
work this influenced this idea. Discovering the stories and the Lady Nunnington but in a
fashionable way. I was influenced by the oldness of the hall and wanted to work around something
that fitted with that.
What will you subjects be for this project?
The two main subjected of the project is Ghosts and Fashion. Combining these together, I will be
having a model to model the ghosts in three different outfits the same colour but different style.
The hall itself is a subject because I was influenced by the oldness of it and wanted to create
something that fitted into that look. The ghosts are subjected to the hall being old. Old is a subject
because the whole images are about past subjects that I am showing through fashion and having a
modern twist on them.
What techniques will you use?
I will use different techniques depending on the lighting of the room. I may need to use artificial
lighting on the models, as it could be darker rooms because of how old the hall is. The setting on
the camera will depend on what the rooms are like. I may need to change the ISO or the aperture
to get a different depth of filed. I will use natural lighting as possible to create a more authentic
look but to highlight the model I may need to use some artificial. After the images are taken I will
use postproduction to perfect them. Fashion photography always uses postproduction to perfect
their images so with this I will make the ‘ghosts’ look more ghosts like. I will use a slight shutter
speed and get the model to move a little bit so then that give the affect of the ghosts moving
around.
