Patience In Romeo And Juliet
A wise man does not try to hurry history. Many wars have been avoided by patience and many
have been precipitated by reckless haste says Adlai Stevenson, a former UN Ambassador who
had to work with people from many different backgrounds and get them to agree on sensitive
topics. These enlightened words from Stevenson can easily relate to the love story of Romeo and
Juliet, a story that tells the tale of two young teenagers who become lovestruck over one another
the minute they lay their eyes upon one another. The young couple desperately wants to get
married, but their feuding families, the Capulets and the Montagues, are in their way. Romeo and
Juliet tragically decided to make extreme decisions in order to have a chance to be together... Show

Either thou or I or both must go with him! (3.1.133 134). The play makes clear that the death of
Romeo s best friend pushed him into letting haste control his actions, which led him to kill
Tybalt. It illustrates how anytime a decision is made in a hasty manner, it will lead to worse
outcome. In my past, I was in a friendship were I was enraged about some of the things that one
of my friends was saying to me and my friends. I became impatient and didn t want to try to work
things out, which led me to ending the friendship. If I would have had more patience and tried to
manage the problem, it may have prevented the awkwardness that still exists between us to this
day and could have allowed the friendship to stay. Another example from the story that illustrated
haste is the passage, Thursday is near. Lay hand on heart. Advise. If you be mine, I ll give you to
my friend. If you be not, hang! Beg! Starve! Die in the streets! (3.5.203 204). Shakespeare
continues to present how the characters like Lord and Lady Capulet reacted with more rashness and
how their rashness continued to negatively impact the outcome. Juliet s parents thought it would be
best for her well being to marry her off since she was upset about the death of her cousin Tybalt.
They ended up pushing her into a situation she didn t want to be in without consulting

Essay Crushed Dreams in The Glass Menagerie
Crushed Dreams in The Glass Menagerie
Tennessee Williams is known for his use of symbols, tension, and irony. Williams uses all of these
components to express the central theme of The Glass Menagerie hope followed by despair. Each
of the characters has dreams that are destroyed by the harsh realities of the world.
As the narrator blatantly admits, since I have a poet s weakness for symbols , symbols are central
to The Glass Menagerie (Williams 30). Symbols are merely concrete substitutions used to express a
particular theme, idea, or character. One major symbol is the fire escape which has a separate
function for each of the characters. This fire escape provides a means of escape for Tom from his ...

Both Laura and her glass menagerie break when they are exposed to the outside world, represented
by Jim. When Laura gives Jim her broken unicorn, it symbolises her broken heart that Jim will
take with him when he leaves. The unicorn is no longer unique like her, rather he is common now
more like Jim. Therefore, she gives the unicorn to Jim. Just as she gives Jim a little bit of herself to
take with him, he leaves behind a little bit of himself with her shattered hopes.
Another recurrent symbol used throughout The Glass Menagerie is the use of rainbows.
Rainbows symbolise hope and each mention of rainbows in the play is associated with a hopeful
situation. When Tom talks about his rainbow coloured scarf that he got at the magic show, he
talks about how it changed a bowl of goldfish into flying canaries. Just like the canaries, Tom
hopes to fly away too to escape from his imprisonment. The chandeliers which create rainbow
reflections at the Dance Hall foreshadow the dance between Jim and Laura which instils hope
within her. At the end when Tom looks at pieces of coloured glass, like bits of a shattered rainbow,
he remembers his sister and hopes that he can blow [her] candles out (Williams 137). Ironically,
though the rainbows seemed to be positive signs, they all end in disappointment.
Irony is shown mostly through the voice of the narrator. As Bloom suggests, Tom maintains
distance between himself and the

Micheal Jackson s Jargon As A Profession
According to chapter 2, a clichГ© is a once clever word or phrase that has lost its impact through
overuse McLean, Scott (2010). Thereby, although one might try to be specific in this scenario, the
tendency of not being taken seriously by the receiver exist thus pose a hindrance to what might
have been a successful communicationsession. For instance, during a recent conversation I had

Stereotypes Of Media Bias
Media Bias Turn on CNN or Fox and Bias pounds you over the head. They each have their own
talking heads or political correspondents to decry their expert opinions . Since the advent of the
24 hour news cycle back during the Gulf War, when CNN was launched, the news junkie was
born. News became less of a journalistic report of the facts about what was happening in the
world and more about infotainment, it became more biased when Fox news came along and all
of the other stations. Media has always been slightly biased according to the owner or publisher
of the journal or the media source. The target audience of Fox news is a very conservative
group, the aim is to entice them to be infuriated by the opinion of the host and guest.
Occasionally a bit of truth is broadcast.. The exact same can be said for the audience of Mother
Jones, MSNBC, and other forms of media. The headline grabbing story I have chosen is very
important as it is a matter of National Security. Who would be affected by this story you may
ask, Everyone who lives in America. Why you ask ? Because if a Foreign Nation dictates who is

Violation Of Nonverbal Communication Violations
This week I decided the behavior I d choose to violate would be physical appearance and space. I
decided on violating these specifically because I felt like these specific nonverbal
communication behaviors would generate the most amounts of different reactions from those
around me. I also took this as a bit of a challenge for myself as I see myself as someone who is very
aware of my physical appearance at all times as well as respectful with it comes to others
personal space, so breaking two of my own nonverbal behavior rules would be something
different and out of character for me. My first violation was Tuesday morning, I work in the
biology department at FIU, so I am always expected to look at least business casual and have
your hair nicely done, which usually I ironed mine. This particular day I walked into work
wearing sweatpants, a baggy T shirt, and some old gym shoes I ve owned for a few years that
were filthy and worn out, my hair was even in its natural afro like curly mess. Giving a massage
that I did not care nor did I want to be there, my supervisor got the message loud and clear. Since
I was not dressed correctly I was told to put on a giant lab coat to cover up my clothing. When
my coworker showed up he thought I looked comfortable and didn t care whether I was dressed
in business casual or not! He wasn t the only one who didn t have a problem with my outfit; the
other teaching assistants (TA s) kept telling me how envious they were of my very casual and

Hooke Vs Newton
Isaac Newton struggled with receiving the proper credit for his scientific discoveries, and was
often overlooked during his time. His biggest rival was Robert Hooke, a president of the Royal
Society and renowned scientist. On occasion, Newton would disagree with Hooke s previously
published ideas, for example, Newton s claim that light was a particle. This is an example of the
beginning of their rivalry. There were many cases throughout their time where Hooke would accuse
Newton of publishing his ideas. An extreme example of this was when Hooke publically humiliated
Newton, causing Newton to go into hiding for many years to avoid the embarrassment. Eventually,
through the help of other scientists such as Halley, Newton slowly gained more credit

The Football Of The Baseball Team
As everyone ran to the field eager and excited to begin their freshman year of football I
awkwardly stumbled along, following them as the field grew closer. I was scared, no; I was
absolutely petrified. Never before had I played a real sport. Sure I played a few seasons on the
city s little league baseball team, but in my young mind, that was surely nothing compared to
this. Tackle football: I had seen a few minutes of it when my dad and his friends watched, or when
my friends played Madden 05 . Although actually playing was another story altogether; I was sure
that my out of shape, chubby, fourteen year old body would collapse, and I would die.
Only now is it that I know that everyone else on that field was equally as scared as me; that, ...

At the time I fully believed he made us run just to make us stronger, also I think he got some
happiness from our pain. Either way, I knew that I hated it and this man was not going to get me
to compete for him. One day after practice, he pulled me aside before I could go back to the
locker room to change. Hey Jake can I talk to you for a second. he said very nonchalantly, I

meaningful. What s the promise? I responded hesitantly.

Dr. H. H. Holmes is one of the two main figures in The Devil in the White City . Born Herman
Webster Mudgett in 1861, Holmes was a shady character from the beginning. While studying
medicine and surgery at the University of Michigan, he stole bodies from the university s
laboratory, mutilated them, and reported their deaths as accidents so he could collect on the
insurance policies he had taken out on the dead. Around the time that he arrived in Chicago,
Holmes began using his famous __alias__, or false name, Dr. H. H. Holmes.
Upon arriving in Chicago in 1886, Holmes set himself up in business as a pharmacist. In 1893,
sensing a once in a lifetime business opportunity, he opened a hotel, which he called the World s
Fair Hotel. The building would become notorious as Holmes s Murder Castle.
Holmes s hotel was an impenetrable maze of more than 100 windowless rooms, dead end
hallways, and doors opening to nowhere. To ensure that he alone understood the overall plan of the
building, Holmes constantly hired and fired building crews, keeping anyone from working on the
Murder Castle for too long.
Holmes murdered dozens perhaps hundreds of people who stayed in his hotel while they were in
Chicago to attend the World s Fair. His victims were primarily women, but he preyed occasionally
on men and children as well. His Murder Castle was specially

Implementing Log Shipping
Implementing Log Shipping Log shipping provides a form of high availability that can make a
copy of a database available on multiple computers. The server instance for a primary database
in a log shipping configuration performs regular backups of database changes recorded in the
log file. The secondary computers in a log shipping configuration copy and restore the backup
log files to make their own local copy of the primary database. Therefore, the same, or nearly the
same, database can be accessed from multiple server instances by different communities of users.
Inserts, updates, and deletes take place on the primary computer in a log shipping configuration.
If your query load is very heavy, you can make multiple copies of a database available for queries
on different computers. Of course, one copy of a database can serve as a warm standby in the
event of a failure to the primary database on which database changes are made. A major caveat is
that the copies will be read only, and as such must have everything the same, including security.
Overview of Log Shipping It is common to implement log shipping with a minimum
configuration of two or three computers. A primary server instance making the primary database
available for inserts, updates, and deletes. One or more secondary server instances store a copy of
the primary database derived from a restored copy of backed up log files from the primary

The Theory Of Personality Theories
The personality theories available, as a collective whole, allow for the complete analysis of the
developing personality of an individual. The emphasis of this specific paper focuses on the
development of the author, Bryan Barker s personality. The theories that will be discussed in
the relation to the development of personality are the Big Five trait theory, with emphasis on
neuroticism, a phenomenological approach, and finally the learning and cognitive approaches.
A synthesis of the approaches on past and predicted behavior and events will help to create a

The effect of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) on bioluminescence in fireflies.
Introduction
Adenosine triphosphate, also known as ATP, is the supply of energy found in every cell that we
need in order to do essentially everything (Anonymous, 2008). It is an energy source for
biochemical reactions such as muscle contraction, active transport, molecular synthesis, and in
fireflies, also known as lightening bugs, bioluminescence (Biology Book). Bioluminescence is the
process in which living organisms convert chemical energy into light (Branchini, 2008). In the
fireflies case the reaction involves the enzyme luciferase which lights up a lantern like mechanism

A Common Critique Of Disabilities Ministry
In Madeline Burghardt s article, she describes a common critique of L Arche by disability scholars.
Namely, that L arche does not sufficiently address broader policy and human rights concerns
(Burghardt, XXVIII). Instead of taking a stake in political systems, L Arche emphasizes changing
the world through small things with extraordinary love, mutual relationships, and interdependence.
On the one hand, L Arche never claimed to be a site of activism in the typical way. Yet, now that
they have grown in prominence, is this a responsibility that comes with their visibility? Expanding
this idea out practically to churches and religious communities, I have seen churches who do have a
disabilities ministry be content with developing relationships.

BED BATH amp; BEYOND Suggested Study Questions 1. How would you characterize the
business risk of Bed Bath amp; Beyond? Review their financial performance. BBBY is special
since they are selling products that are produced by name brand companies, and if any products
needing repair could be sent directly back to the name brand company. Therefore, there are no
switching costs for BBBY since they have no control on the quality of the products they sell.
However, there fixed operating costs have been high and if management adds fixed operating costs
to their business operations, without an increase in sales, the firm s profit would decline and result
in a loss, which is an indication of relatively high business risk.... Show more content on

BBBY will need to trade off business risk against financial risk. They operate in an industry with
fairly low business risk however BBBY s operating leverage is high which could indicate a
higher than industry business risk if they are not cognizant of managing their fixed costs. In
addition, BBBY s debt to total asset ratio is higher than their industry. Both of these indicate a
high business and financial risk. If BBBY were to recapitalize to 80% debt to total capital it
would only increase their financial risk and reduce shareholders earnings per share. Therefore
the recommendation for a capital structure for BBBY would be to add more than the 40% debt
to total capital but not more than 80%. 2. Do you think Bed Bath amp; Beyond has too much
cash? Should Bed Bath amp; Beyond lever up? Consider both the 40% and 80% debt to total
capital proposals. BBBY has too much cash even though it has used the cash for store growth
and small acquisition. They should be focusing on using their cash to increase shareholder
value. If BBBY were to use $400 million in excess cash and $636.3 million in borrowed funds to
repurchase it s shares they would increase their basic earnings per share from 1.35 to 1.41 and their
diluted earnings per share from 1.31 to 1.37. If BBBY were to use $400 million in excess cash, and
borrow $1.27 billion to repurchase their shares, the increase of the basic earnings per share would
only be 0.3 while the difference from zero debt to

Descriptive Essay On Ttto Bene
The smooth, heart felt voice of Jersey Boy Frank Sinatra floods my ears as I enter Mario s Tutto
Bene. The dim, lit dining room with hanging Tiffany Lamps and era style tables from the 1940 s
takes you back into an era of glamor and organized crime. The half moon Italian leather booths that
surround the outmost of the dinner room are soft and comfortable. The authentic Italian foods such
as: Penne Vodka, Chicken Saltimbocca, Shrimp Scampi and Veal Parmigiana engulf your sense of
smell and make your mouth water. The rich Red and White wines that are imported directly from
Italy sing a symphony across your taste buds. This is New Jersey dining at its best.
Mario s Tutto Bene is the very image of Italian beauty, comfort and cuisine. The walls are painted a
dark wine color with deep brown woodwork adorning the walls and doorways. The long dark
brown bar that stretches out before you is sculpted by hand and polished to a high gloss,
reflecting your very image off of it, like a mirror. There is a sleek, shiny, black Piano in perfect
opposition of the bar, set up on a small stage, enclosed by wood banisters that stand guard on
either side of the stairs polished in the same deep hue of the bar. The half moon Italian leather
booths surround the outermost area of the dining hall, leaving room for tables, large enough to
accommodate 8 10 people in the middle.
If someone prefers to enjoy their meal outside, the hostess walks them through double glass doors

Climate Change Is A Hot Topic
Climate change is a hot topic (pun intended), with supporters on both sides. Some claim that
climate change is a hoax, while others agree that it is happening. I believe it is important to
understand that the earth s climate does naturally go through cycles look at our geological history
of ice ages and hothouses but also recognize that human activity has greatly advanced the rate at
which our planet is warming.
The planet naturally goes through periods of extreme cooling and heating. That s why we have
had multiple periods of ice age (when polar ice grows far beyond its normal range) and the
opposite, hothouse periods (when all the polar ice melts). Currently, we are in an interglacial
period (when it s not too hot nor too cold). Interglacial periods are best for human life because our
bodies have not evolved to withstand radical high or low temperatures.
Ever since man began to shift from a nomadic hunter gatherer society to an agrarian society, we
have been gradually using more and more of the earth s natural resources with little thought of the
consequences. Britain began its age of exploration because they sought more land to provide them
with more natural resources as they had exhausted most of what they previously had. When Britain
colonized territory here in North America, they once again had an unlimited supply of huge trees
to make large navy ships, and land to grow crops such as tobacco. This began rapid deforestation
that still has not stopped. As the

Socrates View On Death
Despite the fact that death is such an unknown force, many people live their lives in fear of what it
brings. This isn t a new concept, as even the citizens of Ancient Greece were preoccupied with
worries of what defines the afterlife. However, there were certain philosophers that combated this
idea with their own notions. This can be seen with Socrates, who is often referred to as the father of
Western philosophy. Even though all accounts of his work are displayed through secondary
sources, Socrates is well known for numerous arguments, one of them being for the immortality of
the soul. It was originally introduced in the works of Plato, corresponding strongly with Socrates
view on the nature of death and what comes next for the soul when... Show more content on

The jury deliberates between the two options and ultimately decides to sentence Socrates to
death for his crimes. While Socrates seems somewhat agitated with the verdict because he
promises that vengeance will come upon the men that convicted him immediately after his
death 2 (39c2), he later reveals that his sentencing may very well be a good thing , because those
of us who believe death to be an evil are certainly mistaken 2 (40b4 c). From this point to the end
of the Apology, Socrates revisits the topic of death, overall providing two explanations of what
he believes death truly is, saying that both supply good hope that death is a blessing 2 (40c2).
The first argument he provides is that death is a complete lack of perception, like a dreamless
sleep 2 (40d), a termination of consciousness, which in his eyes, is a great blessing. At this time,
this declaration supports the idea that the soul is mortal, and Socrates seems to favor the idea of
death becoming a sleep undisturbed by dreams because all eternity would then seem to be no more
than a single night 2 (40e1). The second

The Case Of Drones
By the year 2050, the world s population is expected to reach 9.8 billion people. To sustain this
enormous population, it is absolutely critical to optimize production of food and water usage.
Furthermore, as extreme weather such as droughts and floods become more and more frequent due
to climate change, conserving water and increasing food production will become invaluable to
sustaining human life. Currently, many farmers in developed countries analyze near infrared
imagery from drones and satellites to gain environmental data about their fields. This technology
takes advantage of chlorophyll s high degree of fluctuation in light reflection from only slight
changes in water content. Although this spectrum is invisible to the naked eye,... Show more content

However, as these services are extremely expensive (up to tens of thousands of dollars), they are
not accessible to many farmers. In addition to being costly, stringent legal restrictions hinder the
usage of this technology. The FAA prohibits the flying of agricultural drones for commercial
reasons without a remote pilot airman certificate or the direct supervision of a person who
possesses one. This further broadens the economic divide, requiring farmers to either pass an
FAA approved exam and retake the test biannually, or pay monthly fees to hire an operator to fly
the drone for them. Alternatively, free spectral data from satellites can also be used to analyze
the health of crops in a field. One such source is the European Space Agency, which grants
access to its satellite data through the Copernicus Programme. Although the data is free, the
means to access it are not. A farmer would need a computer, high speed internet, and the skills to
use software and manipulate the data into an interpretable form. All of these factors amount to a
nearly insurmountable wall to simply be able to find out how healthy a field is. Furthermore,
data obtained from satellite images have a fairly low resolution of 10 20 meters squared per
pixel. To put this in perspective, 21 sedans parked in three rows of seven would show up as just
one pixel. Resolution this grainy hinders the accuracy and detail of the analysis software, making

Turning Point In The Odyssey
The Odyssey was written by Homer. This epic has many chapters, or books, that tell Odysseus
story after the Trojan War ended. In this story, we learned how Odysseus at first was trapped in an
island by Calypso. Then throughout the chapters, or the books, we see how Odysseus struggles to
get back home to his wife and son. We see Odysseusconquer many obstacles along the way; we
even learn how his entire crew dies. As we approach the middle of the book written by Homer
we learn that Odysseus gets back to Ithaca. When he gets there, he does not reveal his identity to
anyone; including an old friend of his known as Eumaeus. When Odysseus reaches his old friends
house, Odysseus tells Eumaeus a fake story of who he was and were he comes from. This... Show

Which means that the island has various points of entries and exits. Looking at a current map,
we can see that modern day Turkey, where Troy was established, is north of Crete. This allows
for an easy travel. Specially through the Aegean Sea, which is to the left of Turkey. Making
Odysseus lie the most historically plausible. Let s break down how this explanation is possible
in this historical time period. Odysseus, in disguise, first tells Eumaeus how he is from Crete.
This island is perfectly located. This is because it has many docks which allow boats to travel
from country to country making trading easier and more efficient. It is also the last island before
the boats reach Africa, therefore it is most likely used as a stop for the boats to refuel which allows
them to make it to Africa without any hassles. This allows Odysseus to finish telling his story.
Odysseus, in disguise, then processed to tell Eumaeus how during the Trojan Warhe received a coat
from Odysseus. This automatically made him have a meaningful connection to Eumaeus. Because
they both had met Odysseus. Odysseus hopes that this information encourages Eumaeus to help
him out by giving him simple commodities, like a place to

Aldous Huxley Literary Analysis
Aldous Huxley, English writer, novelist and philosopher raised in upper class milieus to the end
of the 19th century, is considered as one of the most brilliant men of his time, thanks to his great
use of intellectual analysis and satire among other resources as a medium for social criticism.
His evolution as a writer may be divided into three different phases determined by several
changes in his way of thinking or writing: he takes his first steps as a novelist through mysticism,
then he falls under the influence of D. H. Lawrence in what is called the Lawrencian interlude
and finally, he comes back to mysticism, retracing the path he once followed. His early novels,
such as Crome Yellow (1921), Antic Hay (1923) and Those Barren Leaves (1925), show the ironic,
sceptic and real nature of Huxley in his first phase. After having lost all faith in humanity after the
Great War in 1914, he found the solution for his despair in philosophical mysticism : we must be
free from the body, the intellect and the personality. This doctrine is particularly present in the latter
novel mentioned, in which the character Calamy takes the decision of living a hermit s life of
meditation in the Italian mountains.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast O Brother Where Art Thou And The Odyssey
Comparing and Contrasting
Ancient Literature and Modern movies can portray the same messages. Both relate to human
condition, but oftentimes the form reflects the age in which it is written. The movie O Brother,
Where Art Thou? (2000) uses a modern setting (1930s Mississippi) to relate to Homer s epic The
Odyssey (800 BCE). The epic The Odyssey by Homer and The movie O Brother Where Art Thou
by The Coen Brothers both tell the story of a protagonist that takes a long journey home to his
wife. Both face many obstacles along the way. In the movie, Sheriff Cooley is compared to
Poseidon, the Blind old man is compared to Tiresias and Ulysses is compared to Odysseus
reconnection with his wife. Both the movie and epic show that human nature are present in both
the epic and movie.
Sheriff Cooley in the movie and Poseidon in the epic are both chasing Ulysses and Odysseus. The

The Sheep Revolution in John UpdikeВґs A P
At first glance, A P written by John Updike, looks like a funny, slangy, youthful story about a
young, nineteen year old boy, Sammy, who has the normal problems that come along with his age
group; abhorrence for his job, talking despondently about the older generation, and dreaming
about girls he sees in the store. However, when people look at the history of the 1960 s, they find
it shows a change in American social values and morals. Furthermore, the revolution of multiple
groups of minorities through the civil rights movement, such as women, gays, and African

One of the biggest social groups that had some of the major impacts during the 1960 s were the
youths in America, consisting of late teens to the late twenties. However, others that fell into
that age group had already cemented their future with earlier choices in their lives. For example,
the checker that worked next to Sammy, his name was Stokesie, a young twenty two year old
who was already married with two children. Stokesie also holds the belief that he will become
store manager someday, which fit the mold of the start from the bottom and only with hard
work can one move up style of the out dated ideologies of the past decade. Stokesie represents
everything from the 1950 s suburbiaism that the youth revolution of the 1960 s was against.
Many have argued that this story has a feminist undertone to the main idea. Conceding, that
going into public is a bit bold, especially for the time period shows somewhat of a revolt by the
girls. Although, someone can contend that if a girl or girls went into a grocery store in a bikini
during today s time, it would result in the same sort of reaction. One can also argue that the story
is condescending toward women and shows them in a negative light. Especially, from the main
character Sammy, with his description of the girls, also the nick names he gives the three girls like
Plaid, Big Tall Goony Goony, and Queenie. Moreover, the assumptions about how a girls

Marketing Discourse Community Analysis
As a Marketing major at Roger Williams University, I am involved with a lot of activities on

is a group of people who share a common interest in a subject. This subject uses language, terms and

David Hume Morality
Hume on Morality and Reason In book three of A Treatise of Human Nature, David Hume writes
about the nature of morality and its connection to our faculty of reason. He argues that our moral
evaluation is not based solely in reason, though still influenced by the conclusions reason
produces. In this essay, I will explain Hume s argument against reason as the base of our moral
evaluation, and the assumptions on which it relies. This will be followed by explaining what,
according to Hume, moral evaluation is based on and how it resolves the difficulties that a reason
based moral system would raise. Finally, I will explain why Hume s moral requirements have some
issues, particularly with objectivity, and explain why such a system is not actually... Show more

In sufficiently large groups, there is enough diversity that it is nearly impossible to sympathize
with the ideals and desires of everyone else. Of course, Hume says that one should sympathize
with the general point of view , but, if that is the case, it needs to be determined how general this
point of view should be. Sympathizing with just ones immediate family, friend group, or clique
could fracture society into moral factions. Nearby societal groups may hold similar moral traits
as virtuous; however, enough distance may result in incredible variance that would cause society
to be difficult to govern at a large scale. This situation does not reduce moral relativism, but
simply shifts it to a larger scale, resulting in morals relative to small groups. Rather than solving
the problem of relativism, it eliminates any moral objectivity at all, since each group would
decide on moral traits that work best as subjective to that group. In the opposite case, one may
sympathize so generally that alternative views may be suppressed so as to avoid being insensitive
to others. Such a scenario could result in an extensive hive mind in which nonconformists are
viewed as unsympathetic or immoral, rather than merely being in a natural state of justified
disagreement. This situation appears to be easily exploitable, since it promotes groupthink by
means of a near universal objective morality. In both cases, the plausibility of the system is likely
tarnished. If the narrow circle is too narrow, it will likely result in small scale collectives with
almost no moral objectivity, but if the narrow circle is too large, then the system appears to be
oppressive and entirely objective. There is the possibility of a middle ground for the size of the
narrow circle, but finding and maintaining such a state seems entirely impractical and still

Notes On The Great Gatsby By Leon Garfield
TITLE Smith explores how both [intuition/morals] and intelligence are required to break the
bonds of poverty. The Industrial Revolution was a time of great advancement, but also great
grime, greed, dust, and dirt. The great dark mazes called neighborhoods were awash with the
poor; there were homeless, orphans, criminals, or combinations of the three and more. Everyone
was playing their own game of life, surviving by their own crooked means. Trust was dangerous,
even between close family and friends. Every man, woman, and child within the shroud of
poverty was competing for their own gains. It is in this sanctimonious, stinking, soot covered
world that young Smith, the protagonist of Smith by Leon Garfield, finds himself in. Smith has
taken it upon himself to escape the prison that poverty is through the discovery of a [adjective
portraying power, special, dangerous, sought after] document. Smith, along with others, fight for
ownership of the document, to unlock its secrets and use to their benefit. Smith must use his
skills of intelligence and intuition if he is to succeed, or even survive the escape of poverty. The
river of Poverty is a great one; it is easy to slip and go down yet almost impossible to crawl back
up. It is even worse for those who start at the very bottom. Everything above those at the bottom
wants to want to push and pull them back, as if to prevent them from reaching any level of human
decency. Even today poverty claims many. During the Industrial

The similar theme is that war changes people and tears them apart due to the pain and suffering
of the war. Cursing the war, cursing himself, cursing everybody (O Flaherty 208). The quote
helps show that the war may cause you to curse things you never would ve before, like, yourself.
And from the poem He thought he d list perhaps/ Off hand like just as I/ Was out of work, had
sold his traps/ No other reason why (Hardy 16 20). This tells how war can force people to make
erratic decisions, it changes your attitude and morals about any situation including joining the army
and going to war. The differencebetween the two stories is that in The Sniper it turns him against
his family and in The Man He Killed it turned the soldier against his friends. To prove this, Then
the sniper turned over the dead body and looked into his brother s face (O Flaherty, page 208).
Again this tells of the shock the sniper received when he saw it was his brother he had killed.
But in the opposing story Yes, quaint and curious war is!/ You shoot a fellow down/ You d treat
if met where any bar is/ Or help to half a crown (Hardy 17 20). It explains of how he killed a man
that the soldier would have befriended in any other situation. All in all, you can see both the

the world are using turf fields. Are these fields that are becoming so popular throughout the world
good for the environment, our health, and the community?
As with any major issue there is always a debate with two sides. In San Francisco the divide is
between the soccer players and the environmentalists. The soccer players want more artificial turf
because it gives them a reliable safe and easy way to participate in the sport they love. The
environmentalists say that artificial turf fields are harmful to the community because they leach
toxic chemicals into the air and the water. Also, the use of turf in children s playgrounds exposes
kids to chemicals that are very harmful at a young age. The voters decided to install artificial turf

cross country season we have meets every other week. When I first came from high school, where I

are looking forward to the tougher competition!
Coming off of Labor Day weekend this week, we had a workout on Tuesday. We did mile repeats

Bioethics’s Hot Topic of Growth Hormones Essay examples
Bioethics s Hot Topic of Growth Hormones
In the article Does Shortness Need a Cure? Ronald Bailey, the author, indicates Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) approval of growth hormone use offers a treatment plan for those who are
short in stature. Bailey also acknowledges bioethics as a seriously debated topic in the medical field
. Bioethics deals with the studies of moral issues in the fields of medical treatment and research
(Caplan). Bailey touches on the topic of bioethics as it deals with the use of growth hormones,
specifically Human Growth Hormone (HGH) for people who are distinguished by their short stature.

Giving injections of a drug to children who may not need it would be unnecessary time and money
spent on treatment.
According to bioethicist Arthur L. Caplan, using such drugs to change the height of children
implies it is unacceptable to be short. Whenever you take people on the low end of a distribution
curve and say they have a disorder, you re starting down a slippery slope (Bailey). It is dangerous
to state people who are different have a problem or disorder. If one group is considered abnormal
then more will believe there is something seriously wrong with them. People of short stature often
do not have disorders. Short stature is not a problem, it is just a situation, just like those who are
naturally taller than most. Because these people are being labeled with disorders, they believe the
use of drugs will increase their growth to, what people consider, is a normal height.
At a young age, it is hard to tell what size a child will grow to. There are many formulas people
have said are accurate in predicting how tall your child will be . . . some of these may have at
one time been based upon some scientific ideas, most are only a reasonable guess at best (Steele
1). If there is no completely accurate way to predict how tall a child will be, then there is no way
for anyone to decide and limit which children are getting the injections of

Relationship Between Darcy And Elizabeth Bennet
The Evolution of the Relationship of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet Whether a relationship
between two characters remains strictly platonic or will eventually become bound by romance,
many factors go into how that relationship evolves. Where the evolution of a relationship is
concerned, one must recognize the importance of how not only the characters themselves affect the
progression of the relationship, but also how outside factors make an impact. Many components of
Jane Austen s novel, Pride and Prejudice, affect and lead to the evolution of the relationship of
Fitzwilliam Darcyand Elizabeth Bennet, including both internal and external influences.

Whether the influences were internal or external, many components of Jane Austen s novel, Pride
and Prejudice, affect and lead to the evolution of the relationship of Fitzwilliam Darcy and
Elizabeth Bennet. Although many different aspects of the novel made an impact on the evolution
of their relationship, the individual factors tended to fuel their own pride and prejudices, something
that not became the root for any obstacles that attempted to prevent their relationship from
evolving, but also became a basis for their relationship to

Is Cheating Unethical
Cheating is unethical because it is wrong in every way, shape, and form. The definition of
unethical in dictionary.com is lacking moral principles, and unwilling to adhere to proper rules of
conduct. When you decide to cheat you have lacked your moral principles. You are no longer a
person to trust. You have decided to not play by fair rules, and therefore have lost your integrity.
Cheatingis unethical because it s not fair that you take advantage of another person s intelligence
for you to take it as your own. During an exam there should never be cheating, that is why they
tell you in advance about the day of the test so you can study. So, it is inappropriate and illegal to
cheat on your exam.
Cheating oversteps on the rights of other people because while another person is doing their best
to finish a paper right, another person is cheating. The right person spent hours studying for an
exam, if not days studying. They went to sleep late to learn the material taught in class to be able
to do an exam and get an A. While the wrong person doesn t study. They do all tons of other stuff
but, open a book, or their notes. Then they go to do an exam, and they cheat all over it. That is
wrong because while a person spent their time, studying or worked hard to learn the material, then
the cheater student comes without studying and decides to cheat. They both might get an A. But,
the studied student deserves the A because that person put the time, and dedication to earn it. While
the other student got an A but they know in the bottom of their heart that they didn t deserve the A.
Also, a common type of cheating is when in an exam a person is doing their test, and a student
close to them starts copying them.
Cheating also oversteps on the rights of others by simply not being loyal, or not playing by the
rules. In a business, there might be 2 business partners. The one that sees the triumph of the
business, and the one who sees the interest of his own pocket. It is somewhat common that
businesses with partners usually end because one decides to step over the other one. And destroys
the friendship of the two, along with the business. When you cheat on a game it s a shame on you
because you didn t play fairly. If you won

  • 3. Patience In Romeo And Juliet A wise man does not try to hurry history. Many wars have been avoided by patience and many have been precipitated by reckless haste says Adlai Stevenson, a former UN Ambassador who had to work with people from many different backgrounds and get them to agree on sensitive topics. These enlightened words from Stevenson can easily relate to the love story of Romeo and Juliet, a story that tells the tale of two young teenagers who become lovestruck over one another the minute they lay their eyes upon one another. The young couple desperately wants to get married, but their feuding families, the Capulets and the Montagues, are in their way. Romeo and Juliet tragically decided to make extreme decisions in order to have a chance to be together... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Either thou or I or both must go with him! (3.1.133 134). The play makes clear that the death of Romeo s best friend pushed him into letting haste control his actions, which led him to kill Tybalt. It illustrates how anytime a decision is made in a hasty manner, it will lead to worse outcome. In my past, I was in a friendship were I was enraged about some of the things that one of my friends was saying to me and my friends. I became impatient and didn t want to try to work things out, which led me to ending the friendship. If I would have had more patience and tried to manage the problem, it may have prevented the awkwardness that still exists between us to this day and could have allowed the friendship to stay. Another example from the story that illustrated haste is the passage, Thursday is near. Lay hand on heart. Advise. If you be mine, I ll give you to my friend. If you be not, hang! Beg! Starve! Die in the streets! (3.5.203 204). Shakespeare continues to present how the characters like Lord and Lady Capulet reacted with more rashness and how their rashness continued to negatively impact the outcome. Juliet s parents thought it would be best for her well being to marry her off since she was upset about the death of her cousin Tybalt. They ended up pushing her into a situation she didn t want to be in without consulting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay Crushed Dreams in The Glass Menagerie Crushed Dreams in The Glass Menagerie Tennessee Williams is known for his use of symbols, tension, and irony. Williams uses all of these components to express the central theme of The Glass Menagerie hope followed by despair. Each of the characters has dreams that are destroyed by the harsh realities of the world. As the narrator blatantly admits, since I have a poet s weakness for symbols , symbols are central to The Glass Menagerie (Williams 30). Symbols are merely concrete substitutions used to express a particular theme, idea, or character. One major symbol is the fire escape which has a separate function for each of the characters. This fire escape provides a means of escape for Tom from his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both Laura and her glass menagerie break when they are exposed to the outside world, represented by Jim. When Laura gives Jim her broken unicorn, it symbolises her broken heart that Jim will take with him when he leaves. The unicorn is no longer unique like her, rather he is common now more like Jim. Therefore, she gives the unicorn to Jim. Just as she gives Jim a little bit of herself to take with him, he leaves behind a little bit of himself with her shattered hopes. Another recurrent symbol used throughout The Glass Menagerie is the use of rainbows. Rainbows symbolise hope and each mention of rainbows in the play is associated with a hopeful situation. When Tom talks about his rainbow coloured scarf that he got at the magic show, he talks about how it changed a bowl of goldfish into flying canaries. Just like the canaries, Tom hopes to fly away too to escape from his imprisonment. The chandeliers which create rainbow reflections at the Dance Hall foreshadow the dance between Jim and Laura which instils hope within her. At the end when Tom looks at pieces of coloured glass, like bits of a shattered rainbow, he remembers his sister and hopes that he can blow [her] candles out (Williams 137). Ironically, though the rainbows seemed to be positive signs, they all end in disappointment. Irony is shown mostly through the voice of the narrator. As Bloom suggests, Tom maintains distance between himself and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thereby, although one might try to be specific in this scenario, the tendency of not being taken seriously by the receiver exist thus pose a hindrance to what might have been a successful communicationsession. For instance, during a recent conversation I had recently with my best buddy over coffee with some other of my closest childhood friends. She had wanted to create a compilation of us her oldest buddies, lip syncing and dancing to Justin Timberlake s cover version of Micheal Jackson s song love never felt so good and present it for an upcoming birthday of her girlfriend which she had been dating for a while. Although I was all sport about it, I had actually suggested that why don t she just say she loved her. But being the odd duck that she is, my statement was a cliche as not only it might have unintentionally offended her, it does sound as if I had missed the whole whimsical part of it.... Since the advent of the 24 hour news cycle back during the Gulf War, when CNN was launched, the news junkie was born. News became less of a journalistic report of the facts about what was happening in the world and more about infotainment, it became more biased when Fox news came along and all of the other stations. Media has always been slightly biased according to the owner or publisher of the journal or the media source. The target audience of Fox news is a very conservative group, the aim is to entice them to be infuriated by the opinion of the host and guest. Occasionally a bit of truth is broadcast.. The exact same can be said for the audience of Mother Jones, MSNBC, and other forms of media. The headline grabbing story I have chosen is very important as it is a matter of National Security. Who would be affected by this story you may ask, Everyone who lives in America. Why you ask ? Because if a Foreign Nation dictates who is elected, in effect that foreign nation has sway over our policies. They are practically running our country. Who believes what they see on the news or... BBBY is special since they are selling products that are produced by name brand companies, and if any products needing repair could be sent directly back to the name brand company. Therefore, there are no switching costs for BBBY since they have no control on the quality of the products they sell. They operate in an industry with fairly low business risk however BBBY s operating leverage is high which could indicate a higher than industry business risk if they are not cognizant of managing their fixed costs. In addition, BBBY s debt to total asset ratio is higher than their industry. Both of these indicate a high business and financial risk. If BBBY were to recapitalize to 80% debt to total capital it would only increase their financial risk and reduce shareholders earnings per share. Therefore the recommendation for a capital structure for BBBY would be to add more than the 40% debt to total capital but not more than 80%. 2. Do you think Bed Bath amp; Beyond has too much cash? I believe it is important to understand that the earth s climate does naturally go through cycles look at our geological history of ice ages and hothouses but also recognize that human activity has greatly advanced the rate at which our planet is warming. The planet naturally goes through periods of extreme cooling and heating. That s why we have had multiple periods of ice age (when polar ice grows far beyond its normal range) and the opposite, hothouse periods (when all the polar ice melts). Currently, we are in an interglacial period (when it s not too hot nor too cold). Interglacial periods are best for human life because our bodies have not evolved to withstand radical high or low temperatures. Ever since man began to shift from a nomadic hunter gatherer society to an agrarian society, we have been gradually using more and more of the earth s natural resources with little thought of the consequences. Britain began its age of exploration because they sought more land to provide them with more natural resources as they had exhausted most of what they previously had. This isn t a new concept, as even the citizens of Ancient Greece were preoccupied with worries of what defines the afterlife. However, there were certain philosophers that combated this idea with their own notions. This can be seen with Socrates, who is often referred to as the father of Western philosophy. Even though all accounts of his work are displayed through secondary sources, Socrates is well known for numerous arguments, one of them being for the immortality of the soul. From this point to the end of the Apology, Socrates revisits the topic of death, overall providing two explanations of what he believes death truly is, saying that both supply good hope that death is a blessing 2 (40c2). The first argument he provides is that death is a complete lack of perception, like a dreamless sleep 2 (40d), a termination of consciousness, which in his eyes, is a great blessing. At this time, this declaration supports the idea that the soul is mortal, and Socrates seems to favor the idea of death becoming a sleep undisturbed by dreams because all eternity would then seem to be no more than a single night 2 (40e1). In addition to being costly, stringent legal restrictions hinder the usage of this technology. This further broadens the economic divide, requiring farmers to either pass an FAA approved exam and retake the test biannually, or pay monthly fees to hire an operator to fly the drone for them. Alternatively, free spectral data from satellites can also be used to analyze the health of crops in a field. One such source is the European Space Agency, which grants access to its satellite data through the Copernicus Programme. Although the data is free, the means to access it are not. This allows for an easy travel. Specially through the Aegean Sea, which is to the left of Turkey. Making Odysseus lie the most historically plausible. Let s break down how this explanation is possible in this historical time period. Odysseus, in disguise, first tells Eumaeus how he is from Crete. This island is perfectly located. This is because it has many docks which allow boats to travel from country to country making trading easier and more efficient. It is also the last island before the boats reach Africa, therefore it is most likely used as a stop for the boats to refuel which allows them to make it to Africa without any hassles. This allows Odysseus to finish telling his story. Odysseus, in disguise, then processed to tell Eumaeus how during the Trojan Warhe received a coat from Odysseus. This automatically made him have a meaningful connection to Eumaeus. Because they both had met Odysseus. Odysseus hopes that this information encourages Eumaeus to help him out by giving him simple commodities, like a place to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Aldous Huxley Literary Analysis Aldous Huxley, English writer, novelist and philosopher raised in upper class milieus to the end of the 19th century, is considered as one of the most brilliant men of his time, thanks to his great use of intellectual analysis and satire among other resources as a medium for social criticism. His evolution as a writer may be divided into three different phases determined by several changes in his way of thinking or writing: he takes his first steps as a novelist through mysticism, then he falls under the influence of D. H. Lawrence in what is called the Lawrencian interlude and finally, he comes back to mysticism, retracing the path he once followed. His early novels, such as Crome Yellow (1921), Antic Hay (1923) and Those Barren Leaves (1925), show the ironic, sceptic and real nature of Huxley in his first phase. After having lost all faith in humanity after the Great War in 1914, he found the solution for his despair in philosophical mysticism : we must be free from the body, the intellect and the personality. This doctrine is particularly present in the latter novel mentioned, in which the character Calamy takes the decision of living a hermit s life of meditation in the Italian mountains.... Both relate to human condition, but oftentimes the form reflects the age in which it is written. The movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) uses a modern setting (1930s Mississippi) to relate to Homer s epic The Odyssey (800 BCE). The epic The Odyssey by Homer and The movie O Brother Where Art Thou by The Coen Brothers both tell the story of a protagonist that takes a long journey home to his wife. Both face many obstacles along the way. In the movie, Sheriff Cooley is compared to Poseidon, the Blind old man is compared to Tiresias and Ulysses is compared to Odysseus reconnection with his wife. Both the movie and epic show that human nature are present in both the epic and movie. Sheriff Cooley in the movie and Poseidon in the epic are both chasing Ulysses and Odysseus. The Sheep Revolution in John UpdikeВґs A P At first glance, A P written by John Updike, looks like a funny, slangy, youthful story about a young, nineteen year old boy, Sammy, who has the normal problems that come along with his age group; abhorrence for his job, talking despondently about the older generation, and dreaming about girls he sees in the store. However, when people look at the history of the 1960 s, they find it shows a change in American social values and morals. Furthermore, the revolution of multiple groups of minorities through the civil rights movement, such as women, gays, and African Americans just to name a few who were at the forefront of issues during the 1960 s. One of the biggest social groups that had some of the major impacts during the 1960 s were the youths in America, consisting of late teens to the late twenties. However, others that fell into that age group had already cemented their future with earlier choices in their lives. For example, the checker that worked next to Sammy, his name was Stokesie, a young twenty two year old who was already married with two children. Stokesie also holds the belief that he will become store manager someday, which fit the mold of the start from the bottom and only with hard work can one move up style of the out dated ideologies of the past decade. Stokesie represents everything from the 1950 s suburbiaism that the youth revolution of the 1960 s was against. Many have argued that this story has a feminist undertone to the main idea. Conceding, that going into public is a bit bold, especially for the time period shows somewhat of a revolt by the girls. Although, someone can contend that if a girl or girls went into a grocery store in a bikini during today s time, it would result in the same sort of reaction. One can also argue that the story is condescending toward women and shows them in a negative light. He argues that our moral evaluation is not based solely in reason, though still influenced by the conclusions reason produces. In this essay, I will explain Hume s argument against reason as the base of our moral evaluation, and the assumptions on which it relies. This will be followed by explaining what, according to Hume, moral evaluation is based on and how it resolves the difficulties that a reason based moral system would raise. Finally, I will explain why Hume s moral requirements have some issues, particularly with objectivity, and explain why such a system is not actually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In sufficiently large groups, there is enough diversity that it is nearly impossible to sympathize with the ideals and desires of everyone else. Of course, Hume says that one should sympathize with the general point of view , but, if that is the case, it needs to be determined how general this point of view should be. Sympathizing with just ones immediate family, friend group, or clique could fracture society into moral factions. Nearby societal groups may hold similar moral traits as virtuous; however, enough distance may result in incredible variance that would cause society to be difficult to govern at a large scale. This situation does not reduce moral relativism, but simply shifts it to a larger scale, resulting in morals relative to small groups. Rather than solving the problem of relativism, it eliminates any moral objectivity at all, since each group would decide on moral traits that work best as subjective to that group. In the opposite case, one may sympathize so generally that alternative views may be suppressed so as to avoid being insensitive to others. Such a scenario could result in an extensive hive mind in which nonconformists are viewed as unsympathetic or immoral, rather than merely being in a natural state of justified disagreement. This situation appears to be easily exploitable, since it promotes groupthink by means of a near universal objective morality. In both cases, the plausibility of the system is likely tarnished. If the narrow circle is too narrow, it will likely result in small scale collectives with almost no moral objectivity, but if the narrow circle is too large, then the system appears to be oppressive and entirely objective. There is the possibility of a middle ground for the size of the narrow circle, but finding and maintaining such a state seems entirely impractical and still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Notes On The Great Gatsby By Leon Garfield TITLE Smith explores how both [intuition/morals] and intelligence are required to break the bonds of poverty. The Industrial Revolution was a time of great advancement, but also great grime, greed, dust, and dirt. The great dark mazes called neighborhoods were awash with the poor; there were homeless, orphans, criminals, or combinations of the three and more. Everyone was playing their own game of life, surviving by their own crooked means. Trust was dangerous, even between close family and friends. Every man, woman, and child within the shroud of poverty was competing for their own gains. It is in this sanctimonious, stinking, soot covered world that young Smith, the protagonist of Smith by Leon Garfield, finds himself in. Smith has taken it upon himself to escape the prison that poverty is through the discovery of a [adjective portraying power, special, dangerous, sought after] document. Smith, along with others, fight for ownership of the document, to unlock its secrets and use to their benefit. Smith must use his skills of intelligence and intuition if he is to succeed, or even survive the escape of poverty. The river of Poverty is a great one; it is easy to slip and go down yet almost impossible to crawl back up. It is even worse for those who start at the very bottom. Everything above those at the bottom wants to want to push and pull them back, as if to prevent them from reaching any level of human decency. Even today poverty claims many. • 44. Is Cheating Unethical Cheating is unethical because it is wrong in every way, shape, and form. The definition of unethical in dictionary.com is lacking moral principles, and unwilling to adhere to proper rules of conduct. When you decide to cheat you have lacked your moral principles. You are no longer a person to trust. You have decided to not play by fair rules, and therefore have lost your integrity. Cheatingis unethical because it s not fair that you take advantage of another person s intelligence for you to take it as your own. During an exam there should never be cheating, that is why they tell you in advance about the day of the test so you can study. So, it is inappropriate and illegal to cheat on your exam. Cheating oversteps on the rights of other people because while another person is doing their best to finish a paper right, another person is cheating. The right person spent hours studying for an exam, if not days studying. They went to sleep late to learn the material taught in class to be able to do an exam and get an A. While the wrong person doesn t study. They do all tons of other stuff but, open a book, or their notes. Then they go to do an exam, and they cheat all over it. That is wrong because while a person spent their time, studying or worked hard to learn the material, then the cheater student comes without studying and decides to cheat. They both might get an A. But, the studied student deserves the A because that person put the time, and dedication to earn it. While the other student got an A but they know in the bottom of their heart that they didn t deserve the A. Also, a common type of cheating is when in an exam a person is doing their test, and a student close to them starts copying them. Cheating also oversteps on the rights of others by simply not being loyal, or not playing by the rules. In a business, there might be 2 business partners. The one that sees the triumph of the business, and the one who sees the interest of his own pocket.
