Equivalent System Mass (ESM), which measures the relative cost of hardware
based on its mass, volume, power, and cooling requirements. Bioregenerative
systems are more practicable and secure for longer missions as they avoid the cost of
constant food supply. However, the ESM shows that the higher initial cost of
bioregenerative systems makes it way more expensive than the Physical/Chemical
systems for long duration missions. For short duration missions, the least expensive
life support uses direct provision of water, oxygen and food from Earth. As Mars
missions aren t brief, the physical/chemical life support system is the most suitable.

Ray Bradbury: His View on Technology
Ray Bradbury as a person has no particular fondness or aversion to technology, yet
as a writer he is disapproves of the way society has become so lazy and dependent on
machinery. Bradbury warns his readers of the consequences of technology.
Technology is a wondrous invention that sparks creativity in others, yet it has as
much negative potential as it has positive potential. the same technology that is used
to make life simpler can cause nuclear destruction. Bradbury himself has no particular

Bradbury predicts what technology could do to society through the morals of The
Veldt, The Pedestrian, and There Will Come Soft Rains.
In his story, The Veldt , Bradbury displays the terrors of America s devotion to
material goods and how it affects society s technology usage. The story is centered
on an average American family of four living in a futuristic smart house. The house
has a device called the nursery, which is a sort of metaphor for the television. The
nursery is triggered my images in the mind of the controller and produces
holographic images onto the walls of the room. After the pampered Peter and
Wendy Hadley are denied a trip on a helicopter, they begin to envision a sweltering,
African veldt. This veldt seems to represent the psychological sate of the Hadley
family. Bradbury s description of the veldt is so vivid that it seems as if the children
were actually in an African savannah and not daydreaming in the middle of the
United States. Those two children are said to have a rather high intelligence in the
story, yet they do not seem to act maturely. This fact is evident in

Basically, the story is about him, his life, his experience and his journey. His life is

Visual arguments can be very useful in terms of passing a message along to the
public. Common examples of an advertisement would be seen on TV ads, possibly
a poster, billboard, and commercials. An ad that caught my eye is a powerful image
portraying verbal abuse. It shows a man screaming at a woman with a fist coming
out of the man s mouth and punching the woman in the face. It basically relays the
message of how verbal abuse is just as bad or hurtful as physical violence and abuse.
This ad also attempts to target the emotion of the viewers. Her facial expression is
key in this ad. There are no textual elements but the picture is strong enough to the
point that texts is no longer needed. The ad does not put us in the situation but it
shows us how verbal abuse can be extremely hurtful. Collingwood argues that other

Another stage in human growth and development is called the phallic stage. Sigmund
Freud believed this stage took place from the age of three to six years old. This is
the stage that children become more aware of the sexual regions of their bodies.
Not only do they become more self aware but also start to notice their parents and
kids around them. This helps them learn the difference in boy or girl male or
female. During this stage it is not uncommon for a child to hook them self onto the

Part 1: Exploring the Meaning of a Poem In the poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence
Dunbar, he describes himself, trapped like a bird in a cage, symbolizing himself
being trapped somewhere he has no desire to be. In the first stanza, the author
describes a delightful scene with the sun bright on the upland slopes (Dunbar 2).
This might have been the author describing his life when he graduated high school,
thinking he had so many options with life. After reading into the second stanza the
mood changes, almost becoming gloomy. The author feels caged like this bird as he

It has become a religious norm for hundreds of years to treat women like they are
less than human and inferior to men. In the article Women on the Front Lines of

tortures that women have had to endure. Hilary Clinton tries to define the line

holy land of Israel signs were put up at religious synagogues telling women they

heads in public, the men of this country do not see the women as being equal in
