Essay about The Effect of Video Game Violence on Youths
Does exposure to violence in video games, on TV, and in social media have an effect on those
exposed to it? Are those who are underage more susceptible to any detrimental side effects from
viewing these things? This has long been a topic of discussion among lawmakers, psychologists,
and the scientific field as a whole. It concerns parents and community members, especially in the
wake of a seeming rise in violenceat school from bullying, fighting, or in the extreme cases of
school shootings. Were any of these types of incidents encouraged by exposure to violence in
media? For the scope of this paper I ll only be using information from a small number of
experiments, and the results generated by them. There is simply too much... Show more content on

The first stating that these games increase violence by teaching the players how to be violent,
then rewarding them in game for violent activities. (Hall, Day, and Hall) Findings supporting
these claims also show that with an increase in violence comes other negative health risks such
as an increased likelihood of substance abuse, sexual activity, and obesity(Denniston, Swahn,
Feldman, and Romero). Media use, and subsequent exposure to violent content is extremely
prevalent among 8 to 18 year old children who spend, on average, 7.4 hours a day using media or
computers and 80% of teens have some type of gaming console(Denniston, Swahn, Feldman, and
Romero) These claims and the amount of media children are exposed to were concerning enough
that the American Academy of Pediatrics started making advisory statements about violent video
games and media being health risks for children in 2001. (Hall, Day, and Hall) Since then the link
between violent games and violent behavior in youths has been researched across many population
groups (Denniston, Swahn, Feldman, and Romero). The second theory revolves around any
positive effects that might be gained from playing these games (Hall, Day, and Hall). Stating that
these may offer safe outlets for negative emotions and thusly allowing players to be more
emotionally balanced. (Hall, Day, and Hall) Data regarding the effects of violence in video

Layers Of Airport Security
Identifying terrorists at airports is a very difficult task for homeland security professionals since
terrorists can blend in very well with the more than 650 million law abiding passengers that travel
every year via U.S. airports (United States Government Accountability Office, 2014). The security
layered approach is a securitystrategy that helps reduce the risk of a terrorist infiltrating into an
airport by employing a wide range of tools and programs that can enhance airport security
(Hoggan, 2012). The numerous layers of security are designed to be able to prevent, identify, and
stop a terrorist attack in case one of the previous security layers failed to do so (Cason, Lu,
Schreckengast, 2010, pg. 88). Each security layer has their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This strategy allows DHS to be able identify suspicious individuals before they even arrive to the
airport. The names of passengers are being matched against the database when the passengers book
their flights prior to arriving to the airport, which is more time and cost effective for DHS than
having to identify suspicious individuals among large crowds of people at airports.
As mention above, all layers of security have some weak points and the Secure Flight program is
not the exception. It may be very difficult for DHS to be able to effectively screen suspicious
individuals without disrupting the flow of passengers since the screenings of suspicious
individuals may take longer in comparison to those passengers who do not pose a threat or are
not considered suspicious. Therefore to combat the Achilles heel of the Secure Flight program,
DHS has created the TSA pre check program. The TSA pre check is a program in which
passengers, usually those passengers who travel frequently, voluntarily submit themselves to
extensive background investigations and if the passenger is able to meet the requirements posted
by DHS, then the passenger will be allowed to go through expedite screenings when they travel as
the passenger will be considered by DHS a Trusted passenger

Christian Life And The Teachings Of The Bible
I have been participating in the Korean language class on Monday and Wednesday from August
10 to now. Last Sunday, I participated in the 1st annual golden harvest 5k marathon. First, I d
like to discuss the spiritual concepts/values from text that relate to personal beliefs. I am a
Christian since birth. So all I d like to talk about is Christian life and the teachings of the bible.
Throughout my whole life, I have learned about spiritual things and what kind of spiritual things
are in my ego. The spiritual values that I always have is love, hope, and trust. Love is an element
that Christians value and have in their Christian mindand the bible says to love each other. I am
doing my best to understand this word throughout my whole life and it is the reason why I chose
my major Nursing. The dictionary meaning of love is an intense feeling of deep affection or
feel a deep romantic or sexual attachment to someone. The bible states that Christian love is
selfless and a giving love. I realized something when I went to Africa for doing some volunteer
work. I felt what it meant to be selfless and what it was to give love through volunteering and
now I keep this in mind through my life too. The second value is hope. All of religion is based on
hope, just like forgiveness, and going to heaven and waiting for God to give them something that
they want. But in the bible it says, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at
the revelation of JesusChrist (Peter

Essay on Gambling Addiction
Gambling Addiction
Gambling affects the person doing it and anyone who is close to them. Through personal
experience getting hooked on gambling is mainly from the action and thrill of everything associated
with gambling. When gambling they are part of the action and not just watching people play a
game for money.
If one is truly a pathological gambler, just like lying they cannot stop unless they are helped.
When gambling it is very difficult to come to the realization that one is addicted. They simply do
not want to believe this because all there fun must finally come to an end. If it does not they will
be on track to mess up everything they have worked so hard to accomplish. When someone is

These gamblers have been responsible and moral in there early lives but are conflict avoiders
and have often times suffered from some form of verbal or physical abuse. And now have a
desperate need for empowerment and gain it in there escape gambling. These individuals usually
poses low self esteem, and become manipulative as the problem develops. The problem gambler
has a far higher probability of long term cure through abstinence unlike the action gambler these
people usually peruse help within 6 months to 3 years of the problems inception. (Diamond 2001
p.3)
This information shows him two very important points. First this information shows you two
different types of gamblers and how they become put into a certain category. Second this
information shows him what the two types of gamblers lack in skills or are above and beyond
most normal people. This information is given mainly to fill him in on how and why a certain type
of gambler is what he or she is, and why they do this to themselves and others.
Current estimates suggest that three percent of the adult population will experience a serious
problem with gambling that will result in significant debt, family disruption, job losses, criminal
activity or suicide. Pathological gambling affects the gamblers, their families, their employers and
the community. As the gamblers go through the phases of their addiction, they spend less

Site Assessment Essay
Human Health Impacts As stated earlier, LEED acknowledges the construction of a building at a
site and all its impacts on the existing ecosystem. It evaluates the proximity of vulnerable
populations, adjacent physical activity opportunities, and proximity to large sources of air
pollution. The construction of a buildingmay lead to unwanted and harmful emissions into the
ecosystem. Hence, building use is defined and all possible effects on local populations are
determined to avoid any predictable future damage to health and lifestyle of the present population
at the site.

Although it is new, it serves as one of the most significant parts of the site sustainability credit. This
inventory report directly relates the site to the relative ecological and biological aspects of a
landscape. This preliminary look at the conditions of the site enhances the sustainability in the
initial design and planning stages, providing a sustainable start to the project planning. The site
assessment worksheet should have more extensive site research inquiries which further explore
sustainable options. I propose the site assessment report should include more aspects of site
inspection like
The heat island effect provision under sustainable sites carries two point weight on the rating
system when it just focuses on building envelope whereas site assessment should require assessing
the building setting and envelope beforehand before the construction even begins to be able to
make provisional steps during design and construction to reduce it (heat island effect).
A possible change suggested in this credit would be to increase the weight from one point to at
least two points in terms of LEED pilot credit points (may involve merging of heat island effect into
site assessment credit).

Fragile X Syndrome Analysis
In 1943 two men, Martin and Bell discovered a gene condition called Fragile X Syndrome. 2
Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is a genetic condition, which may cause an intellectual disability,
behavioural and learning difficulties and various other physical characterstics.1 It occurs when the
female gene (X gene) is repeated over 50 200 times, this is called Fragile X permutation. 1 In
1969, Herbert Lubs established the chromosomal test for Fragile X Syndrome. Fragile X Syndrome
is an inherited condition in which the X chromosomeis passed on from the parent to the child. If the
woman has the affect X, they will have an increased chance for passing the geneon but as men have
an Y as well as an X chromosome, if they have Fragile X Syndrome, their sons won t be affected as
they have their fathers Y chromosome. It is the most common form of inherited intellectual
disability in males and a major cause of intellectual disability in females.
There is currently no cure for this condition yet and treatment is generally based on the symptoms
the individual has.
During the 1970s and 1980s, the only examination for Fragile X Syndrome was a test in which
blood was taken to test for chromosomes.3 However, this was unreliable as not always accurate. In
the 1990s scientists identified a specific gene that causes Fragile X Syndrome and ... Show more

European Relations with Native Americans
As the Europeans arrived on American shores, they encountered a variety of native peoples.
Some were living in advanced civilizations; others were living as simple hunter gatherer cultures.
By the time of the first European contact, in 1492, European settlers interacted with the native
peoples in different ways. The Spanish ruled the natives as conquered people, forcing many to work
on agricultural estates. The French developed a harmonious relationship with the natives. The
English approach fell somewhere between the two polar European powers.
The Spanish settled in present day Mexico and Peru; they encountered the advanced civilizations
of the Aztec and Inca Empires. After diseases wiped out most of the native population, millions
survived. The Spanish incorporated the survivors as laborers for their own empire. Eventually,
after forced labor, the survivors died from exhaustion. Few Spanish families settled the empire so
the group of explorers and soldiers intermarried with the natives. After enslaving indigenous peoples
in the Caribbean and the southern parts of the Americas to grow crops and mine for gold, silver,
and other valuables, the Spanish moved into North America where they concentrated their efforts in
what is now the southwestern and southeastern United States. In present day Florida, Spain
established a military post at San AugustГn, but only a small

Langston Hughes Analysis
Racial inequality through the eyes of Langston Hughes
According to Biography, James Mercer Langston Hughes is considered to be an African American
poet who is college educated and comes from a middle class family (Langston Hughes Biography).
He attended college in New York City and became influential during the Harlem Renaissance
(Langston Hughes Biography). Although Hughes was a talented writer, he faced some challenges
early on and it was stated that his early work was roundly criticized by many black intellectuals for
portraying what they thought to be an unattractive view of black life (Langston Hughes. American
Poet). They believed that his work helps the spread the stereotypes of African Americans. Hughes,
more than any other black poet or writer, recorded faithfully the nuances of black life and its
frustrations (Langston Hughes. American Poet). Langston Hughes s poems The Negro Mother ,
Let America be America Again and The Weary Blues were influenced by his life during the Harlem
Renaissance and the racial inequality experienced in the late 1920s through the 1960s.
The speaker in the The Negro Mother is an African Americanwoman who makes a promise to her
children that she will be with them always in spirit as they fight for the same rights as whites.
She says, For I will be with you till no white brother / Dares keep down the children of the Negro

Literary Techniques Used in November Cotton Flower by Jean...
Slavery in the south was brutal as anybody could imagine an idea expressed by Jean Toomer
through his poem called November Cotton Flower . The poem is fourteen lines of rhyming
verse describing the harsh, sudden and questionable bloom of a cotton flower in the month of
November. It is composed of heroic couplets, with a regular rhyme scheme, which is as follows:
A, A, B, B, C, C, D, D, E, E, F, G, H, H, but the poem reads like Shakespearian sonnet three
quatrains developing a certain tone and theme, followed by a couplet that undercuts or reverses
them. In the beginning it portrays the scuffle for survival of cotton flower during November s
harsh winter weather; but towards the end, it describes the sudden bloom of it. The author goes
in depth with most of the descriptions to give a reader a clear and strong mental image. The
poem describes the weather and its effect on cotton flower by pointing out the dying branches and
vanishing cotton. The image of insufficiency, struggle and death parallel the oppression of African
American race. The beginning of the poem illustrates the struggle and suffering of the cotton
flower; which represent the misery of African Americans and also gives an idea that there is no
hope for them. But at the end the speaker says brown eyes that loves without a trace of fear
/ Beauty so sudden for that time of year (lines 13 14). This shows the rise of the African American
race, and their fight against racism. The author used mood, tone and

Taxpayer Bill Of Rights Case Analysis
Question 1:
I ll start off my post by saying that I honestly hadn t heard of TABOR before this class. I used to
live in Northern California before Colorado not too long ago, and it didn t seem to be talked
about over there, as they haven t implemented TABOR. I decided to read up on it to gain a greater
perspective of what the Taxpayer Bill of Rights entails.
The first concept that I learned about was that under TABOR in Colorado, taxpayers would now
be able to vote before taxes were raised by local and state governments. The voters must approve
the tax raise. In addition to that concept, the revenues that had previously been collected as a result
of prior tax rates were not to be spent without tax payer approval, should those rates have increased

Lastly, should TABOR surplus occur, any of the extra funds must be redistributed back to the
taxpayers, unless the taxpayers approve a change of revenue.
Considering all of the prior information, TABOR sounds like a decent idea. Although, I wasn t
entirely convinced. I decided to look into the pros and cons of TABOR. I found an article that
claims that while TABOR isn t perfected, there have been improvements made within the
Colorado economy since tabor. This conclusion was made after comparing the Colorado economy
10 years before TABOR had been introduced in 1992 to the Colorado economy 10 years after
TABOR was implemented. According to the Colorado Springs Business Journal, job growth within
Colorado has for the most part increased steadily. The article claims, From 1983 1992, total job

General Manager of Ol Spurs Steakhouse in Brisbane, a locally owned steakhouse and restaurant
has reported productivity and profit loss, which is negatively affecting the brand and the company s
profit margins. After careful consideration, it was discovered that employees within the various
sections are confused who should be doing what and to whom they should be reporting. This report
will analyse the issue and discuss key management factors when addressing staff. Two management
theories will be proposed as recommendations to measure the problem and to prevent the issue from
happening in the future.

Differences Between The Blind Side Movie And Movie
The Blind Side; In reality and the movie A young boy who grew his life up with nothing, found
a family that changed his entire life by making him apart of their life. If it wasn t for the Tuohy
family, Michael Oher would not have been able to pass high school and college or play football
in the NFL. The director of this film made changes in the movie from the real story to make the
film more interesting and compelling. In the movie, The Blind Side, director John Lee Hancock
kept some of the details that were similar to Michael Ohers life but changed others to make the
movie more interesting.
In movie The Blind Side, There are some events that take place that are a little different from the
actual event that took place. For example, in the movie Michael s coach decides to enroll him
into the schooling programs right away but in reality, the principal didn t let Michael in before
insisting on a home school program for a few months to get his grades up (Anna Diamond).
Additionally in the movie, the Tuohy s find Michael walking on a sidewalk at night while it s
raining and cold and Michael doesn t have clothes that are suitable for the weather. They decide to
take him in that night to let him stay in their home. In real life, Leigh Anne Tuohy finds Michael on

Enemy Release Research Paper
Enemy release is perhaps one of the most elementary forms of reasoning behind why a species has
the potential to become invasive in an introduced environment. The enemy release hypothesis
predicts that an exotic species can become invasive upon it introduction as a result of its escape or
release of specialist herbivores. It also predicts that phenotypic plasticity will be displayed similarly
in native and invasive ecotypes and that both ecotypes will behave and respond alike in common
environments (Rogers and Siemann, 2005). This prediction is derived from the understanding that
both native and invasive ecotypes have similar genetic contribution to tissue type and quality
(Rogers and Siemann, 2005). Assuming that specialist herbivores are... Show more content on

In part, this is explained by the novel weapons hypothesis which predicts that invasive plant
species produce chemicals that are novel to generalists of introduced ranges, requiring adaptive
evolution for invasives to become palatable to generalists (Lankau et al., 2004). It is also
generally accepted that invasives tend to alter the soil composition of their introduced ranges
(Zou et al., 2006). In some instances, it is evident that generalists do not feed on invasives in
introduced ranges because they lack the behavioral adaptations necessary to do so (Lankau et
al., 2004). In 2002, a greenhouse study was performed in LaMarque, Texas where grasshoppers
(M. augustipennis) were placed large mesocosms with Triadica and Celtis (common hackberry)
to determine possible behavioral shifts of herbivores when confined to a single food source
(Lankau et al., 2004). In fact, grasshoppers exhibited more herbivory on the exotic Triadica
genotypes when compared to relative consumption of native Celtis genotypes (Lankau et al.,
2004). This study suggests that Triadica sebifera is indeed palatable to generalist herbivores like
grasshoppers in its introduced ranges. Generalists, however, require selective pressure in order to
shift their diets to invasive species like Triadica sebifera (Lankau et al., 2004). Generalist
herbivores display no detrimental effects

Good Vs Evil Essay
Living in a society constantly plagued by a scarcity of compassion, and hostility runs rampant, I
ve come to question the innate in people. Trying to consider the natural condition of people,
being whether it good or evil, I ve come to believe good exists as equally as evil. And as one
resists the other, both are on a conquest to defeat the other. Goods quest is to help; scattering
kindness, compassion, and love. Where evils quest is to carry out complete genocide against
everything good. Within the fight, the battle is finished by a choice, a choice being allowed to
conquer. This battle is fought in every human being. It should be said the choice between good and
evilis a free choice. Swimming through what seems like a dark murky lake, I ve searched for a
sliver of light, and too often come up discouraged, disappointed, and desperate. Sadly, people are
left deserted trying to latch onto the sliver of light. Believing in the choice for good, I was
sadden to encounter a sort of hatred I did not think to ever witness. Being a hopeless romantic
and consistently looking at life as if it is a poem ready to be written, my expectations for my act
of kindness were at a high peak. I ve often had a fascination with the homeless, and at times, even
a sort of envy towards them. To be able to float freely, unbound by society s confinements. When
deciding I wanted to sit down, eat, and talk with a homeless person, I looked forward to the mounds
of understanding I hoped to gain. But upon

My Favorite City Essay
Imagine waking up early in the morning, getting in the car, and driving for a couple of hours to
your favorite city to visit. It is an immensely great feeling that occurs once you reach it. We all
have our favorite places to visit. What makes your favorite city so great? All of the best cities in
Michigan should have certain characteristics to be considered the best.
Most favorable cities in Michigan all have the quality of a dedicated lighthouse and pier. For
example, in the city of Port Austin, Michigan there is a towering lighthouse at the end of a long
pier that stretches out into Lake Huron. It is a tremendous feeling walking for a couple of
minutes and reaching the end of the pier. The feeling is quite breathtaking to look at the clear blue
water with a snappy breeze blowing. The whole experience of walking for a couple of minutes to
make it to the lighthouse is why Port Austin is such a fantastic destination. Another example of an
outstanding city with a lighthouse is Charlevoix, Michigan. Charlevoix is up north near the top of

Effect Of Sucrose Concentration On Potato Osmosis
Research question:
What is the Osmolarity (solute concentration) of potato tubers deduce by measuring the loss or gain
in mass of samples immersed in sucrose solutions of different concentrations for 24 hours? The
concentrations of sucrose solution are 0.0mol гЂ–dmгЂ—^( 3), 0.2mol гЂ–dmгЂ—^( 3), 0.4mol
гЂ–dmгЂ—^( 3), 0.6mol гЂ–dmгЂ—^( 3), 0.8mol гЂ–dmгЂ—^( 3), and 1.0 mol гЂ–dmгЂ—^(
3).
Hypothesis:
When plant tissues are immersed in sucrose solutions of different concentration, the cells will gain
or lose water by osmosis and therefore change in size and mass. If the potato samples are immersed
with hypertonic solution, the mass of samples will be reduced as the hypertonic solution has a higher
solute concentration which makes the water move towards it. If the potato ... Show more content on

Osmosis is the passive trend of a fluid, usually water, to pass through partially permeable membrane
into a higher concentration of sucrose to equalize the concentrations of solution on either side of
the membrane. Factors affecting the rate of osmosis include temperature, surface area, and size of
particles and concentration of the sucrose.
Potatoes are generally grown from other potatoes by planting another piece of potato. This planted
potato has several slightly recessed, dormant buds on the surface which will sprout at the right
condition and the sprouts can develop into independent plant. The planted potato provides the new
sprout or seedling with nutrition from its supply of stored starch. After a seed is planted, the main
stem and first leaves appear above ground. The root system progresses quickly and begins to absorb
nutrients. The top, where it has most leaves of the plant puts on a lot of growth. Then the growing
of main stem of the plant ends producing a flower bud. When this happens, the plant will have
many leaves causing them to eventually produce more nutrients than the plant needs, making
excess energy to channel downward to be stored in the tubers which are thick, short, underground
stems. They are the

Triviality In The Importance Of Being Earnest
In the years between 1837 1901, people had a completely new viewpoint separate from the previous
era. During this frivolous era, people stressed respect, seriousness, and decency. Although one may
think there is nothing wrong with these practices, he or she may not comprehend how intensely the
individuals followed their new current traditions. Author Oscar Wilde thoroughly displays just how
people during this time period acted in his play The Importance of Being Earnest. Wilde pokes fun
at various elements of the Victorian society. To better understand how Wilde s play made fun of the
Victorian society, one must look at the following elements: manners, triviality and immaturity

Wilde stresses. The play shows an immense amount of immaturity; for example, in the scene
where Mr. Worthing is trying to propose Gwendolen. Gwendolen will not let Worthing get a
word out until he proposes properly, Of course I will, darling. How long you have been about it!
I am afraid you have had very little experience in how to purpose . (Wilde 11). With this being
said, Gwendolen is showing a great sense of immaturity. Instead of letting Mr. Worthing propose in
his own way, she will not accept anything until he gets down on one knee. In another instance of
immaturity comes when Algernon takes it upon himself to pretend he is Mr. Worthing s brother.
Algy fails to announce the fact to Jack. Algy takes this matter very immaturely as stated, Mr.
Ernest Worthing has just driven over from the station. He has brought his luggage with him
(Wilde 23). In addition to these selfless acts of immaturity, Wilde also exhibits immaturity when
psychotic Miss. Cardew tells Algernon that they have already been married for three months. This
scene comes about when Algy decides he wants to marry Miss Cardew. You silly boy! Of course.
Why? We have been engaged for the last three months (Wilde 32). This shows severe immaturity
from Miss Cardew. She has gone ballistic at this point, writing notes from Algernon to herself,

Satanism And Witchcraft Similarities
Witchcraft and Satanism. Two things that are different, yet some people say they are basically
the same thing. Witchcraft and Satanism are two beliefs that do share some qualities, but they are
more far detailed in their own unique, scary ways. To start, the definition of Witchcraft is the
belief or use of magic and sorcery (Merriam, 1), and Satanism is the ideological belief and worship
of Satan, which is categorized by people who are against the Christian community (Merriam, 1).
Now moving onto to the history of witchcraftand Satanism. Both witchcraft and Satanism date back
all the way to biblical times. Satanism was started when Christianitywas spreading in Africa,
Europe, etc. Satanism was not formally directed to people who worshipped Satan, but to people
who thought of Christianity differently from the church. The church would assume that they were
in a pact with the devil (Lujik, 6). Witchcraft became known when it was written in the bible that

Witches have gatherings that they call covens. Unlike in Satanism, as their meeting and
gatherings are called grottos. Covens are when a community of witches or believers gather for
ceremonies, basically like congregations. Most of the time when witches come together, it is
mostly to worship the Drawing of the Moon, which is a ritual when the highest witch of a coven
enters a trance from a Goddess or Triple Goddess (Wikipedia, 1). Satanists have many types of
gatherings, but the one that is most common is the grotto. A grotto is when satanic people meet up
for any social, ritual, or special interests (Wikipedia, 1). Some of the similarities that grottos and
covens share are that they sometimes meet for ritual reasons. Another similarity they share is that
they perform a type of

Christopher Columbus the Liar
The letter Christopher Columbus wrote back to Spain to report his findings in the New World
sparked intrigued me and sparked my imagination. Why I have been so absorbed in this letter I can
not explain. This letter is supposed to be about describing an unknown land, a land that has not been
seen by anyone besides the natives, but it seems that there is more to it than that. Columbus is
known in elementary schools as the man who found the New World, and is regarded as a hero. To
the contrary, historians who have done more research on Columbus say that he was driven by fame
and fortune and that he was tyrannical in his ways with the indigenous peoplesof the places that he
came to find. I feel that the contradictory tones Columbus uses... Show more content on

I then took it to another level. As fascinated as Columbus was with what he saw, he did not want the
king and queen to think that he thought the new world was more beautiful than Spain itself. To think
that this New World could be more beautiful than mother Spain, could be treason and he could not
describe this place to the king and queen without mentioning Spain s beauty. So, as unnecessary as
it may seem to me to describe these islands in relation to Spain, Columbus may have been using a
bit of tactic behind his seemingly innocent poetry. In trying to save himself from seeming
treasonous, Columbus had to use a little poetry to compare the New World to Spain. In the quote,
the place Columbus was describing seems divine and majestic, almost like heaven, but then he just
relates all this beauty to Spain in the month of May. Is Spain really that beautiful in the month of
May, or is Columbus just trying to make the monarchs believe that Spain is just as majestic and
divine. This line alone, seemingly insignificant, may have dampened Columbus s description of the
New World, just to please a few monarchs.
In the following paragraphs, Columbus explains how timid and afraid the native peoples are of all
of his men. Columbus makes himself seem so noble and so generous to these people, by giving
them gifts and not allowing

Let s clarify some things first. Take Thomas Edison and Marie Curiefor instance. Edison stayed at
school for only three months when he was young. Because he always asked strange questions
that his teachers thought he was a fool. So they sent him away from school. Little poor Tom had
to teach himself to learn. But he made more than 2,000 inventions years later. Marie Curie went
to Paris to study when she was young. She got first degree in Physics after two years arriving in
Paris. Then she dis covered Radium and Polonium. And she was given two Nobel Prizes for her
determination. She was the first woman who got two Nobel Prizes during that time. Today she is

courage, her willingness to share her knowledge with the whole scientific world, her interest in
woman s rights, and her medical service during the war. Did they succeed because of hav ing no

work very hard toward this purpose. That is what I firmly believe. There are many more great
people like this, such as Hua Luogeng, Chen Jingrun, etc.
From what I listed above, it should be clear that it was not the exam system that makes people

Egalitarianism In The Sapphires
Good morning/afternoon and welcome to the 2018 annual Australian Film Festival. The
Australian films represented here today are examples of egalitarianism and the idea of a fair go
for all. They depict the underdog, and their drive to succeed and achieve. In many Australian films
today these two qualities are shown throughout which makes for a captivating and exciting film
experience. Iconic films such as The Sapphires and Ned Kelly depict Australians fighting against
injustice, personal issues and inequality, showing the value of a fair go and egalitarianism. The
film The Sapphires is set in the 1960 s and is based on a true story, portrays four young Aboriginal

Both the films address the issue of egalitarianism, and although they are set in extremely
different times in history, both represent the struggles people face in society, whether it is due to
ethnicity or social injustice. In both films the main characters are looked down upon by society
as underdogs, in many ways due to circumstances that are beyond their control. In The Sapphires
they do not have much of a leverage because of their race and continue to be looked down upon
by the white people because they are black. In the case of Ned Kelly, Kelly was born into a
disadvantaged family. Due to being part of the Kelly family he too was looked down upon by

character is faced with, and the fight to overcome the injustice that they face on a day to day basis.

Conbolism In The Symbols Of The Hamburger Mary s
Hamburger Mary s. According to Mrs. Young (2017), the rainbow can be displayed in the form of
a sticker, tattoo, or flags (Young, personal communications, June 26, 2017). There is also a symbol
of the LGBTQ community that is not as commonly known. Per Mrs. Young (2017), there is a
yellow equal symbol with a blue background (Young, personal communications, June 26, 2017). I
have seen this symbol becoming popular as a bumper sticker on automobiles. Mrs. Young (2017)
also talked about the sexual symbols such as two women and two men, as well as the puns. The
puns can include Gaydar and Born this way slogans (Young, personal communications, June 26,

shared subculture of which they are a part of. When members of the subculture find out about a new
member it does not make them instant friends. According to Mrs. Young (2017), many people that
are not a part of the subculture make the huge misconception that everyone that is in the subculture
knows one another. Furthermore, those that are a part of the subculture make friends the same way
as those outside of the subculture. Just because another person is LGBTQ does not make them
instant friends (Young, personal communications, June 26, 2017). The LGBTQ is an increasingly
known subculture. The members of the subculture not only have their own functions, but they also
make an impact in our Colorado community. I have noticed the impact of the subculture becoming
well known and is still on the rise of recognition.
There are bars, parades, community gatherings, and even restaurants that are available to the
public for those involved in LGBTQ. According to the Hamburger Mary s website (2017),

Combining the two can save even more when customers take into account what the store sales

Customer loyalty scan cards are another way that can save money in the store. Once signed up,

Adolf Hitler And The Nazi Party
In 1933, Adolf Hitler was legally named chancellor of Germany by President Paul von
Hindenburg. In the following years, Hitler would take power as FГјhrer and the Nazi party would
create laws that pretty much allowed them to kill eleven million people. While the anti semitic laws
and the laws against undesirables were horrible, they were still laws. The truth of the matter was
that Hitler belonged to the Nazi partyand it was a legitimate political party with a substantial
following; and their laws were enacted legally. In this essay, I will explain how both Hart s and
Fuller s theories play into why I believe that the Nazis had laws. It begins with Hart s idea of a
sovereign body enacting legitimate laws and the complexity of the people following despite the
immorality of the laws and ends with the laws becoming nullified as they lose respect. I will
also address the idea that the Nazi s power didn t have legitimate laws because they went against
laws that came before them. Hart, often credited as being the father of modern legal positivism ,
built his ideas off the legal positivists who came before him: Jeremy Bentham and John Austin.
Hart took their ideas and softened their especially Austin s harder, more cynical view that laws
were purely followed because of a the threat coming from a reigning power. Hart argued that laws
were more complex than that. He believed that the incentives, negative or positive, put forth by the
ruling power was only part of the

The Iron Curtain was the name for this boundary that divided Europe into two separate areas
which lasted from 1945 until the end of the Cold War in 1991. The Iron Curtain ended open contact
with the rest of Europe and the West and defined the Cold War.
In addition to the ongoing confrontations in Europe, there were also other hostilities in which the
United States and the Soviet Union found themselves on opposite sides. From 1945 to 1949 there
were several confrontations in Asia. Chinese Communists defeated the Kuomintang in a civil war,
and then China negotiated a 10 year treaty of alliance and aid with the Soviets. The United States
opposed this. Then the United States occupied southern Korea at the end of World War II and the
Soviets responded by occupying northern Korea. Shortly after the Korean War ended, the
communists in Viet Nam (Viet Minh) announced their independence from France. This led to war

Elements Of Satire In Candide
Glass half empty, glass half full, who cares as long as there is water? Pessimistic or optimistic,
Voltaire takes a realistic approach to each philosophy in his satirical novel, Candide. Written in
1756, the French philosopher s work was under appreciated and banned in France shortly after its
publication, a mistake the North Dakota Department of Education is about to repeat. Candideis a
literary masterpiece studied mostly at the university level for its interesting philosophies, satirical
devices, and rich history, to ban this book in high schools would rob students of their chance to
expand their education and critically analyze the world around them.
Voltairewrote Candide after the 1755 earthquake in Lisbon, France, critiquing the Church s and
other philosophers declaration that All is well . While other philosophers of the time, such as Jean
Jacques Rousseau and Leibnitz believed that God s plan was perfect and that humanity s downfall
was civilization, Voltaire maintained that civilization would make people better. In a letter to Jean
Jacques Rousseau, Voltaire argued, What we need is more, not less, civilisation. This cannot be

described simply and without the swell of emotion, making horrible events appear nonchalant and

As the Reconstruction Era ended so did the market for professional job opportunities for African
Americans. An area for work opportunity for African Americans was seen in the industrial labor

A Feminist Novel The Penelopiad By Margaret Atwood Essay
The Penelopiad is a novella by Margaret Atwood, published in 2005 in the Canongate Myth Series
where contemporary authors rewrite ancient myths. Atwood often portrays female characters
dominated and oppressed by patriarchy in her novels. Atwood believes that the feminist label can
only be applied to writers who consciously work within the framework of the feminist movement.
The novella s central themes include the effects of story telling perspectives, double standards
between the sexes and the classes, and the fairness of justice. Atwood s novel gives a voice to her
hardships and the wits she uses to get through her rough life, which is a form of the Feminist
Resistance Theory. In The Penelopiad, Penelope reminisces on the events during the Odyssey, life
in Hades, Odysseus, Helen and her relationships with her parents. A chorus of the twelve maids,
whom Odysseus believed were disloyal and whom Telemachus hanged, interrupt Penelope s
narrative to express their view on the events. The present paper is an analysis of the
characterization of Penelope as the strongest woman in Margaret Atwood s play The Penelopaid .

It is surprisingly not trivial to find a genetic counselor or clinical geneticist. The three options are
to: ask your doctor for a referral, call the Genetic Disease Foundation, and contact the National
Society of Genetic Counselors ( Find a Genetic Counselor ). In addition to being able to find a
genetic counselor, another factor that may prevent access is the question: who pays for genetic
counseling? While some insurance plans cover the cost of the genetic test itself (usually for
single genes and only if certain criteria are met), very few plans reimburse for genetic counseling,
creating an expense that would be out of pocket. Those that do, such as Cigna, have seen their
genetic counseling programs succeed tremendously. In 2013, Cigna began their genetic counseling

My Philosophy Of Teaching Language
My philosophy of teaching language is that in order for a child to achieve language they have to
have the desire to learn it. In my short time, I have overseen teachers implement a student centered
learning environment. Learning in my future classroom will always occur within cooperative and
collaborative group work. Having observed this strategy, this strategy is completely effective and
positive to reaffirm and develop strong student to student and instructor to students relationships.
This only reassures and establishes an honest and sincere communication in classrooms. I would
also do my best to create a positive and enjoyable environment for my future students, which
motivates them to participate actively in the activities. In today s classrooms, I find, they are
becoming extremely diverse in socioeconomic, academic, disability and ethnic backgrounds. To be
able to provide a connection and identity with the English languageonly becomes a more
challenging task to achieve due to the diversity of the group of students. Apply knowledge of
language to understand how language functions in different contexts, to make effective choices
for meaning or style, and to comprehend more fully when reading or listening (Arizona College
and Career Readiness Standards). However, as my duty and responsibility as an instructor, I am
obligated to design activities that address the diverse abilities and needs of each and every student.

lastly that a man to be godly should be humble and selfless, although Beowulf himself didn t
exactly followed the last. However, despite both poems having Christian passages, the texts also
have parts the Anglo Saxon culture as well, for instance Judith in the poem depicts her with heroic

by his name (be naman nemnan; 81a) and identifying him as the Holy Trinity. Her incantation
momentarily transforms Holofernes s tent into a Christian sphere: the holy maiden seizes the
heathen man ([thorn]one hae[eth]enan mannan; 98b) by the hair; having struck the heathen dog
([thorn]one hae[eth]enan hund; 110a) for the second time, she not only makes his head roll onto
the floor but sends his soul down to an underworld with an unmistakably Christian quality. The
narrator evokes the image of Holofernes s body left in darkness for worms to feast on a common
Christian image, which nonetheless echoes with Germanic images in the poem: the earlier banquet
scene where Holofernes is the feaster rather than the feasted on, and the later scene where the
Bethulians leave the Assyrians corpses for beasts of battle to consume (290 96a). (Momma).
Beowulf on the other hand, uses his strength, he tells Hrothgar that Now I mean to be a match for
Grendel, settle the outcome in single combat (Beowulf50) ,his poem glorifies war and battles, he

  • 2. Essay about The Effect of Video Game Violence on Youths Does exposure to violence in video games, on TV, and in social media have an effect on those exposed to it? Are those who are underage more susceptible to any detrimental side effects from viewing these things? This has long been a topic of discussion among lawmakers, psychologists, and the scientific field as a whole. It concerns parents and community members, especially in the wake of a seeming rise in violenceat school from bullying, fighting, or in the extreme cases of school shootings. Were any of these types of incidents encouraged by exposure to violence in media? For the scope of this paper I ll only be using information from a small number of experiments, and the results generated by them. There is simply too much... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first stating that these games increase violence by teaching the players how to be violent, then rewarding them in game for violent activities. (Hall, Day, and Hall) Findings supporting these claims also show that with an increase in violence comes other negative health risks such as an increased likelihood of substance abuse, sexual activity, and obesity(Denniston, Swahn, Feldman, and Romero). Media use, and subsequent exposure to violent content is extremely prevalent among 8 to 18 year old children who spend, on average, 7.4 hours a day using media or computers and 80% of teens have some type of gaming console(Denniston, Swahn, Feldman, and Romero) These claims and the amount of media children are exposed to were concerning enough that the American Academy of Pediatrics started making advisory statements about violent video games and media being health risks for children in 2001. (Hall, Day, and Hall) Since then the link between violent games and violent behavior in youths has been researched across many population groups (Denniston, Swahn, Feldman, and Romero). The second theory revolves around any positive effects that might be gained from playing these games (Hall, Day, and Hall). Stating that these may offer safe outlets for negative emotions and thusly allowing players to be more emotionally balanced. (Hall, Day, and Hall) Data regarding the effects of violence in video ... • 3. Layers Of Airport Security Identifying terrorists at airports is a very difficult task for homeland security professionals since terrorists can blend in very well with the more than 650 million law abiding passengers that travel every year via U.S. airports (United States Government Accountability Office, 2014). The security layered approach is a securitystrategy that helps reduce the risk of a terrorist infiltrating into an airport by employing a wide range of tools and programs that can enhance airport security (Hoggan, 2012). The numerous layers of security are designed to be able to prevent, identify, and stop a terrorist attack in case one of the previous security layers failed to do so (Cason, Lu, Schreckengast, 2010, pg. 88). Each security layer has their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This strategy allows DHS to be able identify suspicious individuals before they even arrive to the airport. The names of passengers are being matched against the database when the passengers book their flights prior to arriving to the airport, which is more time and cost effective for DHS than having to identify suspicious individuals among large crowds of people at airports. As mention above, all layers of security have some weak points and the Secure Flight program is not the exception. It may be very difficult for DHS to be able to effectively screen suspicious individuals without disrupting the flow of passengers since the screenings of suspicious individuals may take longer in comparison to those passengers who do not pose a threat or are not considered suspicious. Therefore to combat the Achilles heel of the Secure Flight program, DHS has created the TSA pre check program. The TSA pre check is a program in which passengers, usually those passengers who travel frequently, voluntarily submit themselves to extensive background investigations and if the passenger is able to meet the requirements posted by DHS, then the passenger will be allowed to go through expedite screenings when they travel as the passenger will be considered by DHS a Trusted passenger ... • 4. Christian Life And The Teachings Of The Bible I have been participating in the Korean language class on Monday and Wednesday from August 10 to now. Last Sunday, I participated in the 1st annual golden harvest 5k marathon. First, I d like to discuss the spiritual concepts/values from text that relate to personal beliefs. I am a Christian since birth. So all I d like to talk about is Christian life and the teachings of the bible. Throughout my whole life, I have learned about spiritual things and what kind of spiritual things are in my ego. The spiritual values that I always have is love, hope, and trust. Love is an element that Christians value and have in their Christian mindand the bible says to love each other. I am doing my best to understand this word throughout my whole life and it is the reason why I chose my major Nursing. The dictionary meaning of love is an intense feeling of deep affection or feel a deep romantic or sexual attachment to someone. The bible states that Christian love is selfless and a giving love. I realized something when I went to Africa for doing some volunteer work. I felt what it meant to be selfless and what it was to give love through volunteering and now I keep this in mind through my life too. The second value is hope. All of religion is based on hope, just like forgiveness, and going to heaven and waiting for God to give them something that they want. But in the bible it says, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of JesusChrist (Peter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The construction of a buildingmay lead to unwanted and harmful emissions into the ecosystem. Hence, building use is defined and all possible effects on local populations are determined to avoid any predictable future damage to health and lifestyle of the present population at the site. Efficacy of Site Assessment Site assessment is a fundamental part of site sustainability credit of the rating system. Regardless of the possible maximum points this ... This inventory report directly relates the site to the relative ecological and biological aspects of a landscape. This preliminary look at the conditions of the site enhances the sustainability in the initial design and planning stages, providing a sustainable start to the project planning. The site assessment worksheet should have more extensive site research inquiries which further explore sustainable options. I propose the site assessment report should include more aspects of site inspection like The heat island effect provision under sustainable sites carries two point weight on the rating system when it just focuses on building envelope whereas site assessment should require assessing the building setting and envelope beforehand before the construction even begins to be able to make provisional steps during design and construction to reduce it (heat island effect). A possible change suggested in this credit would be to increase the weight from one point to at least two points in terms of LEED pilot credit points (may involve merging of heat island effect into site assessment credit). Fragile X Syndrome Analysis In 1943 two men, Martin and Bell discovered a gene condition called Fragile X Syndrome. 2 Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is a genetic condition, which may cause an intellectual disability, behavioural and learning difficulties and various other physical characterstics.1 It occurs when the female gene (X gene) is repeated over 50 200 times, this is called Fragile X permutation. 1 In 1969, Herbert Lubs established the chromosomal test for Fragile X Syndrome. Fragile X Syndrome is an inherited condition in which the X chromosomeis passed on from the parent to the child. If the woman has the affect X, they will have an increased chance for passing the geneon but as men have an Y as well as an X chromosome, if they have Fragile X Syndrome, their sons won t be affected as they have their fathers Y chromosome. It is the most common form of inherited intellectual disability in males and a major cause of intellectual disability in females. There is currently no cure for this condition yet and treatment is generally based on the symptoms the individual has. During the 1970s and 1980s, the only examination for Fragile X Syndrome was a test in which blood was taken to test for chromosomes.3 However, this was unreliable as not always accurate. • 10. European Relations With Native Americans Robert Bossong History II Honors Mr. Hartwell 3/2/16 European Relations with Native Americans As the Europeans arrived on American shores, they encountered a variety of native peoples. Some were living in advanced civilizations; others were living as simple hunter gatherer cultures. By the time of the first European contact, in 1492, European settlers interacted with the native peoples in different ways. The Spanish ruled the natives as conquered people, forcing many to work on agricultural estates. The French developed a harmonious relationship with the natives. The English approach fell somewhere between the two polar European powers. The Spanish settled in present day Mexico and Peru; they encountered the advanced civilizations of the Aztec and Inca Empires. After diseases wiped out most of the native population, millions survived. The Spanish incorporated the survivors as laborers for their own empire. Eventually, after forced labor, the survivors died from exhaustion. Few Spanish families settled the empire so the group of explorers and soldiers intermarried with the natives. After enslaving indigenous peoples in the Caribbean and the southern parts of the Americas to grow crops and mine for gold, silver, and other valuables, the Spanish moved into North America where they concentrated their efforts in what is now the southwestern and southeastern United States. Langston Hughes Analysis Racial inequality through the eyes of Langston Hughes According to Biography, James Mercer Langston Hughes is considered to be an African American poet who is college educated and comes from a middle class family (Langston Hughes Biography). He attended college in New York City and became influential during the Harlem Renaissance (Langston Hughes Biography). Although Hughes was a talented writer, he faced some challenges early on and it was stated that his early work was roundly criticized by many black intellectuals for portraying what they thought to be an unattractive view of black life (Langston Hughes. American Poet). They believed that his work helps the spread the stereotypes of African Americans. Hughes, more than any other black poet or writer, recorded faithfully the nuances of black life and its frustrations (Langston Hughes. American Poet). Langston Hughes s poems The Negro Mother , Let America be America Again and The Weary Blues were influenced by his life during the Harlem Renaissance and the racial inequality experienced in the late 1920s through the 1960s. The speaker in the The Negro Mother is an African Americanwoman who makes a promise to her children that she will be with them always in spirit as they fight for the same rights as whites. • 12. Literary Techniques Used in November Cotton Flower by Jean... Slavery in the south was brutal as anybody could imagine an idea expressed by Jean Toomer through his poem called November Cotton Flower . The poem is fourteen lines of rhyming verse describing the harsh, sudden and questionable bloom of a cotton flower in the month of November. It is composed of heroic couplets, with a regular rhyme scheme, which is as follows: A, A, B, B, C, C, D, D, E, E, F, G, H, H, but the poem reads like Shakespearian sonnet three quatrains developing a certain tone and theme, followed by a couplet that undercuts or reverses them. In the beginning it portrays the scuffle for survival of cotton flower during November s harsh winter weather; but towards the end, it describes the sudden bloom of it. The author goes in depth with most of the descriptions to give a reader a clear and strong mental image. The poem describes the weather and its effect on cotton flower by pointing out the dying branches and vanishing cotton. The image of insufficiency, struggle and death parallel the oppression of African American race. The beginning of the poem illustrates the struggle and suffering of the cotton flower; which represent the misery of African Americans and also gives an idea that there is no hope for them. But at the end the speaker says brown eyes that loves without a trace of fear / Beauty so sudden for that time of year (lines 13 14). I decided to read up on it to gain a greater perspective of what the Taxpayer Bill of Rights entails. • 17. Enemy Release Research Paper Enemy release is perhaps one of the most elementary forms of reasoning behind why a species has the potential to become invasive in an introduced environment. The enemy release hypothesis predicts that an exotic species can become invasive upon it introduction as a result of its escape or release of specialist herbivores. It also predicts that phenotypic plasticity will be displayed similarly in native and invasive ecotypes and that both ecotypes will behave and respond alike in common environments (Rogers and Siemann, 2005). This prediction is derived from the understanding that both native and invasive ecotypes have similar genetic contribution to tissue type and quality (Rogers and Siemann, 2005). Assuming that specialist herbivores are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In part, this is explained by the novel weapons hypothesis which predicts that invasive plant species produce chemicals that are novel to generalists of introduced ranges, requiring adaptive evolution for invasives to become palatable to generalists (Lankau et al., 2004). It is also generally accepted that invasives tend to alter the soil composition of their introduced ranges (Zou et al., 2006). In some instances, it is evident that generalists do not feed on invasives in introduced ranges because they lack the behavioral adaptations necessary to do so (Lankau et al., 2004). In 2002, a greenhouse study was performed in LaMarque, Texas where grasshoppers (M. augustipennis) were placed large mesocosms with Triadica and Celtis (common hackberry) to determine possible behavioral shifts of herbivores when confined to a single food source (Lankau et al., 2004). In fact, grasshoppers exhibited more herbivory on the exotic Triadica genotypes when compared to relative consumption of native Celtis genotypes (Lankau et al., 2004). This study suggests that Triadica sebifera is indeed palatable to generalist herbivores like grasshoppers in its introduced ranges. Generalists, however, require selective pressure in order to shift their diets to invasive species like Triadica sebifera (Lankau et al., 2004). Trying to consider the natural condition of people, being whether it good or evil, I ve come to believe good exists as equally as evil. And as one resists the other, both are on a conquest to defeat the other. Goods quest is to help; scattering kindness, compassion, and love. Where evils quest is to carry out complete genocide against everything good. Within the fight, the battle is finished by a choice, a choice being allowed to conquer. This battle is fought in every human being. It should be said the choice between good and evilis a free choice. Why I have been so absorbed in this letter I can not explain. Columbus is known in elementary schools as the man who found the New World, and is regarded as a hero. As fascinated as Columbus was with what he saw, he did not want the king and queen to think that he thought the new world was more beautiful than Spain itself. So, as unnecessary as it may seem to me to describe these islands in relation to Spain, Columbus may have been using a bit of tactic behind his seemingly innocent poetry. In trying to save himself from seeming treasonous, Columbus had to use a little poetry to compare the New World to Spain. In the quote, the place Columbus was describing seems divine and majestic, almost like heaven, but then he just relates all this beauty to Spain in the month of May. Is Spain really that beautiful in the month of May, or is Columbus just trying to make the monarchs believe that Spain is just as majestic and divine. This line alone, seemingly insignificant, may have dampened Columbus s description of the New World, just to please a few monarchs. Because he always asked strange questions that his teachers thought he was a fool. So they sent him away from school. Little poor Tom had to teach himself to learn. But he made more than 2,000 inventions years later. Marie Curie went to Paris to study when she was young. She got first degree in Physics after two years arriving in Paris. Then she dis covered Radium and Polonium. And she was given two Nobel Prizes for her determination. She was the first woman who got two Nobel Prizes during that time. Today she is remembered and admired not only as a famous scientist, but also for her determina tion and courage, her willingness to share her knowledge with the whole scientific world, her interest in woman s rights, and her medical service during the war. Did they succeed because of hav ing no exam system? No, absolutely not! First of all, they had a great interest in learning. And then, they work very hard toward this purpose. That is what I firmly believe. There are many more great people like this, such as Hua Luogeng, Chen Jingrun, etc. From what I listed above, it should be clear that it was not the exam system that makes people successful. The Australian films represented here today are examples of egalitarianism and the idea of a fair go for all. They depict the underdog, and their drive to succeed and achieve. In many Australian films today these two qualities are shown throughout which makes for a captivating and exciting film experience. Iconic films such as The Sapphires and Ned Kelly depict Australians fighting against injustice, personal issues and inequality, showing the value of a fair go and egalitarianism. In The Sapphires they do not have much of a leverage because of their race and continue to be looked down upon by the white people because they are black. In the case of Ned Kelly, Kelly was born into a disadvantaged family. Due to being part of the Kelly family he too was looked down upon by society. There is also a symbol of the LGBTQ community that is not as commonly known. Per Mrs. Young (2017), there is a yellow equal symbol with a blue background (Young, personal communications, June 26, 2017). When members of the subculture find out about a new member it does not make them instant friends. According to Mrs. Young (2017), many people that are not a part of the subculture make the huge misconception that everyone that is in the subculture knows one another. Furthermore, those that are a part of the subculture make friends the same way as those outside of the subculture. Just because another person is LGBTQ does not make them instant friends (Young, personal communications, June 26, 2017). The LGBTQ is an increasingly known subculture. The members of the subculture not only have their own functions, but they also make an impact in our Colorado community. I have noticed the impact of the subculture becoming well known and is still on the rise of recognition. Local sale ads can reveal money saving sales that can vary between time periods. Customers can plan shopping trips around the posted sales. In the following years, Hitler would take power as FГјhrer and the Nazi party would create laws that pretty much allowed them to kill eleven million people. While the anti semitic laws and the laws against undesirables were horrible, they were still laws. The truth of the matter was that Hitler belonged to the Nazi partyand it was a legitimate political party with a substantial following; and their laws were enacted legally. In this essay, I will explain how both Hart s and Fuller s theories play into why I believe that the Nazis had laws. It begins with Hart s idea of a sovereign body enacting legitimate laws and the complexity of the people following despite the immorality of the laws and ends with the laws becoming nullified as they lose respect. I will also address the idea that the Nazi s power didn t have legitimate laws because they went against laws that came before them. Hart, often credited as being the father of modern legal positivism , built his ideas off the legal positivists who came before him: Jeremy Bentham and John Austin. Hart took their ideas and softened their especially Austin s harder, more cynical view that laws were purely followed because of a the threat coming from a reigning power. Pessimistic or optimistic, Voltaire takes a realistic approach to each philosophy in his satirical novel, Candide. Written in 1756, the French philosopher s work was under appreciated and banned in France shortly after its publication, a mistake the North Dakota Department of Education is about to repeat. Candideis a literary masterpiece studied mostly at the university level for its interesting philosophies, satirical devices, and rich history, to ban this book in high schools would rob students of their chance to expand their education and critically analyze the world around them. In my short time, I have overseen teachers implement a student centered learning environment. Learning in my future classroom will always occur within cooperative and collaborative group work. Having observed this strategy, this strategy is completely effective and positive to reaffirm and develop strong student to student and instructor to students relationships. This only reassures and establishes an honest and sincere communication in classrooms. I would also do my best to create a positive and enjoyable environment for my future students, which motivates them to participate actively in the activities. In today s classrooms, I find, they are becoming extremely diverse in socioeconomic, academic, disability and ethnic backgrounds. To be able to provide a connection and identity with the English languageonly becomes a more challenging task to achieve due to the diversity of the group of students.
