The Major Causes Of The Glorious Revolution
Major Causes of the Glorious Revolution of 1688 The Glorious Revolution of 1688 was the successful
invasion of England by the Dutch Republic lead by William of Orange. William of Orange s invasion
of England was in large part due to the political division occurring in England from the periods before.
The English nobles were uneasy with the current monarchy, King James II, during the time before the
Glorious Revolution. This uneasiness began during the Restoration period of England between 1660
and 1688. King Charles II ruled from 1660 to 1685, when he dies and his brother James II succeeds
him and rules until 1688. From 1660 to 1667, King Charles II rules with his leading minister Edward
Hyde and the Cavalier Parliament under an Anglican Royalist consensus. This period of time restored
the natural political and social order for England. The Clarendon Code is passed during this time and
secures the Church of England s supremacy over the country s religious life, by making it difficult for
people from other religions to hold their own churches. The Clarendon Code consisted of the
Corporation Act of 1661, the Act of Uniformity of 1662, the Conventicle Act of 1664, and the Five
Mile Act of 1665.
Then from 1665 to 1667, the second Anglo Dutch War is fought and the Dutch were victorious. This
War was caused by King Charles II s hate of the Dutch politics and its housing of former English
radicals and exiles and for an increase of England s naval development and revenue.

The Preprocessing Phase Of Speaker Recognition Systems
The preprocessing phase in speaker recognition systems is used to give subsequent stages (features
extraction, modeling, and features matching) an intensification efficiency. Therefore, the system
performance is improved regarding classification rate and computing time. In this chapter, we define
the most important step in the pre processing and we followed by analyzing the reason of chosen
algorithms and its impressions in a Speaker Identification System (SIS).
2.1 Pre processing Structure gCommonly the pre processing includes the sampling step, windowing,
and a denoising step. At the end of the preprocessing, the compressed and filtered speech frames are
forwarded to the feature extraction stage. The broad preprocessing pipeline is shown ... Show more

A study of Sanderson al [23] have exposed that a combination of feature vector size and a chosen
sampling frequency has a direct impact on system performance. Figure 4, present a wave file sampled
at f = 16 kHz.
2.1.2 Windowing Frame Blocking
A term of quasi stationary describes a slow variation in a given domain. In speech analysis, features of
an observed segment of a signal with a period Ts=(5 100 ms) could fairly be stationary. The
information in a speech signal is could be represented by short term amplitude spectrum
representation. The framing procedure is multiplying the speech wave with a windowing function. The
signal is weighted in the time domain (convolution) and divided into a sequence of partial signals in
the specter domain. By doing so, we improve time information of every partial signal.
In speech processing, There are various windowing functions, each with different shapes and different
characteristics. The form of the window function is not a critical factor. Usually, some soft window
like the Von Hann, rectangular, hanning or hamming window [24] are used to decrease incoherence of
the speech signal at the boundaries of each frame segment.
In this work, a Hamming window is used and given by:
2.1.3 Silence Background Noise Removal (Endpoint Detection):
Depending on the purposes of the speech processing technique, preprocessing could include Noise
Removal, Endpoint Detection, Pre emphasis, Framing, Windowing, etc.

Audio and video has been used since 1850 s. Over the past years look at the first Star wars to now the

since the beginning to modern day. Last year i was in a class called Career Preparation, in the second

jukebox was the coin operated cylinder phonograph with 4 listening tubes that earned over $1000 in
its first 6 months of operation starting the previous November 23 in San Francisco s Palais Royal
Saloon setting off a boom in popularity for commercial nickel phonographs ( Audio Engineering
Society, 2005). This was the very first jukebox to come onto the market. The jukebox has cylinders to
read the music and play it through the can spinning on a type of wire to give the right frequency to
come out the speakers. There are a few songs to choose from, because the jukebox can only carry up
to four to five cylinders. Audio advancing in the 1900 s. Through the really early 1900 s there was
improvements on the jukebox cylinders and improvements on the phonograms: 1912 Edison
introduced celluloid blue Amberol cylinders that played for 4 minutes. When played with a diamond
stylus, the new cylinder had low surface noise that resulted in higher acoustic quality than flat discs.

The Germ Theory Of Modern Medicine And Vaccines
Morgan Brewer

H. English III
10 November 2015
The Germ Theory The germ theory is crucial in the development of modern medicine and vaccines. It
states that many diseases are caused by the presence of specific microorganisms within the body and
that infectious diseases caused by infectious agents. It was a theory developed in the middle 1800 s, by
Louis Pasteur, Robert Koch, and Joseph Lister. This theory still underlines contemporary bio
medicine. It s responsible for the reduction in the numbers of infectious diseases. The development of
the theory eliminated environmental, diet, and climate influence on disease. The germ theory is
closely associated with existing ideas about health, hygiene, and sanitation. It encouraged the
reduction of disease to simple interactions with microorganisms and their host. The development was
largely initiated largely by the Industrial Revolution. Infections and disease have been the biggest
challenge to human health. This theory is also known as the Pathogenic Theory of Medicine. It
revolutionized medicine, understanding diseases, and the microorganisms that cause them. Infectious
diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi; the
diseases can be spread, directly or indirectly, from one person to another (World Health Organization).
They evolve from four main different types of germs. These are viruses, bacteria, fungi, and protozoa.

Why Should Kids Get Summer Break
Should Your Child Get A Summer Break? Do you think kids should have summer break? Summer
break gives families more time to make memories, it releases stress off of the students and teachers, it
also gives more time for events to be made. Summer break can help out on a lot. No kids would want
to stay in a hot classroom all year round when they could be outside enjoying the summer days.
The first reason why kids should have summer break is because summers are made for making
memories. According to Gary Huggins, kids need to enjoy time and vacation with their families.
Vacation is freedom for everyone, including the students and teachers. Furthermore, Huggins believes
that you can tie in what you ve learned over the year with memories you re making in the summer
(Huggins). Vacations are more fun when you have all the time to make memories. Vacation is best
during the summer, everyone enjoys hot summer days and spending time with their friends and family

According to Kelley Holland, there is more time for sports and other events in the summer than during
the school year. Too many events are scheduled during the summer time rather than the school year.
Most kids play sports, during school, they re constantly busy with games, their weekends involve
doing what their family or coaches have planned. Some kids practice a single sport, which means they
could play all year round (Holland). Most families would rather be able to have time to go places with
their kids, not have to get it all done in a certain amount of time. During the school year, kids usually
have a bedtime or homework, if your family or sport coach has something planned, there might not be
time for other things (Holland). Birthday parties, reunions, weddings, sport events, etc. can be made
easier in the summer instead of kids and teachers having to take off work time for those

The Islamic Civilization And Islam
One cannot have an adequate and well versed discussion about Islamic civilization without first
defining two key terms: Civilization and Islam. Associate Professor at Washington University in St.
Louis, Ahmet Karamustafa, defines civilizations as, nothing more than a particular, even unique
combination of ideas and practice that groups of human actors who are the real agents of human
history affirm as their own and use to define and develop their own sense of presence and agency in
the world (Karamustafa 103). Thus, guided by this definition, we have an understanding of Islamic
Civilization as a religious movement guided by the mandates of God. Of course, anywhere where
there is human organization and interaction, there will be politics involved. Although there were some
political aspects in the community of the Believers under the leadership of the prophet, at the core of
this movement was the belief in his prophetic authority. I will argue that Islam, despite all the political
implications it has had throughout history, is ultimately rooted in religious belief, submission to God,
and living a pious life in accordance with God s commands for achieving eternal salvation.
Furthermore, In the course of this paper, I will give a brief introduction of Islamic civilization broken
up into four parts that are integral to understanding Islamic civilization: Politics and religion in the
early community of the believers, governance after the death of the prophet,

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein-The Women Of Cyberpunk
The Women of Cyberpunk
Women have always been on the fringes of the science fiction writing community. Not only have there
been few female writers, but few female characters of substance have explored the universe, battled
aliens, or discovered new technologies. Even in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein (1818), considered by
some to be the first science fiction novel, Elizabeth, who is the major female character, does little
more than decorate Victor s arm, snag his heart, and eventually contribute to his self destruction.
Women were virtually non existent in the Golden Age SF (1938 1949) writings; except perhaps as
trophies to be rescued, or smoldering, sexual beings that really didn t contribute to the overall plot

Her hand blurred down the front of his jacket, completely severing the lapel without rumpling the

So we got a deal or what?
Deal, he said, staring at his ruined lapel with what he must have hoped was only polite interest. Deal.

In the above passage, it is evident that Molly, however, would not have the ability to truly break away
from the female SF character stereotype without her body s enhancements. She is the more physically
powerful because of them. Technically, she could be considered a cyborg in feminist and technological
theorist Donna Haraway s view because of these enhancements:
Chiba. Yeah. See, Molly s been to Chiba, too. And she showed me her hands, fingers slightly spread.

straight out from their recesses beneath her nails, each one a narrow, double edged scalpel in pale blue
steel. (Gibson 37)

Bosnian Genocide And Holocaust Similarities
Genocide is one of the worst inventions man has made. More formally known as massacres before the
early 1900s(Cooke welling 69), they have always been very harmful to an ethnicity or religions
growth. The word itself originates from latin roots. The words whole and burned in latin morph to
make the word holocaust A few of the worst ones in history have happened in just the past century.
One that is very familiar is The Holocaust. It was the genocide of the Jewish faith during World War II
by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party( The Holocaust ). Hitler believed that the aryan race was germans

Many examples in history show multiple times where people have banded together to fight for the
common good, but they might always notice how bad it actually in. This is what happened in the
Bosnian genocide with the world. Nobody actually reacted until the news was spread worldwide that
Serbs killed 8,000 males in Srebrenica( Genocide and 34). This is when the rest of the world,
especially developed countries, saw the need to help these innocent people in Bosnia. The United
Nations tried to help the Bosniaks and Croats who were in severe need of a rescue but only sent 400
soldiers. The city of Srebrenica had so much violence in it that it was too spread out for the UN
soldiers to make an impact. This resulted in these soldiers getting criticized around the world for their
lack of contribution(36). This was not the case for the genocide of the Jews. The Jews were at the
height of media during the second World War. Hitler and his Nazi party made headlines week after
week with the Holocaust. Many of the countries in the Allied Powers were shocked to see that
something so disastrous could actually happen.Mass killings were constantly made at every camp.

Theories Of Ecofeminism
This chapter presents a review of the ecofeminist theory: the history of man s alienation from women
and nature, the basis for the association between women and nature. Different feminist perspectives
prior to the theory of ecofeminism and how they handled the mutual relationship between women and
nature and how this led to the emergence of the theory of ecofeminism. Some of the important terms
in the theory of ecofeminism, ecofeminism and deep ecology, ecofeminism and the feminine principle,
characterization of ecofeminist philosophy, ecofeminism and the sense of place, and finally
ecofeminism and the division within the theory itself.
During the last centuries, and especially after the emergence of the Industrial Revolution, a
degradation of our nature has been witnessed. This degradation has occurred in many natural
elements: air, water, and soil. Global warming, pollution, water contamination, unstable weather, and
many dysfunctions of the once stable earth has made thinkers consider the reason why such
deficiencies occur, and how to get things right before it is too late to take an action and our earth goes
beyond repair.
This current situation has made thinkers from different schools of thought try to figure out when this
contamination of nature took place; what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Did the punishment of Jocasta and Oedipus fit the crime? No because Jocasta wouldn t have killed

The results of the rebellion of Melos is tragic, but it was unavoidable. The killing of any man and the

as being a definite course of action adopted for the sake of expediency, facility, etc. Though the policy
is flawed an brought about death it also was set in place by the governing people before them. There
was no avoiding something that was created for the eternal well being of the Athenian empire. To
maintain the justice of the empire the governing officials had no other choice but to commit a horrific

Our great oceans whose biodiversity in unmatched, makes up over three fourths of our planet s
surface. The ocean is home to more than 20,000 different species of fish and over 2 million other
animal and plant species found in our oceans. Overfishing can be defined in a number of ways.
However, everything comes down to one simple point: Catching too much fish for the system to

oceans. The earliest overfishing occurred in the early 1800s when humans, seeking blubber for lamp

KPMG Sued by New Century Trustee Over Subprime Lender s Demise
By Sophia Pearson April 2, 2009 00:36 EDT
April 2 (Bloomberg) KPMG International, which oversees the fourth largest U.S. accounting firm,
was sued by the trustee for bankrupt subprime lender New Century Financial Corp. over claims it
failed in its role as gatekeeper.
Negligent audits and reviews by KPMG LLP, the U.S. member firm of KPMG International, led to
New Century s collapse, according to lawsuits filed yesterday in state court in Los Angeles and federal
court in New York. The suits, filed against both KPMG International and KPMG LLP, seek at least $1

KPMG advised New Century to alter the way it calculated reserves for repurchasing mortgage loans
that didn t meet certain conditions, according to the Los Angeles complaint. New Century s
calculations for required reserves were wrong and violated generally accepted accounting principles,
the complaint said.
Mistakes in calculation grew to more than $300 million and repurchase requests soared to $8 billion
once New Century s true financial condition was known, the complaint said. The company could no
longer borrow money to finance its lending business and collapsed owing billions.
Professional Standards
Any claim that we acquiesced to client demands is unsupportable, Ginsburg said. KPMG acted in
accordance with professional standards in New Century, and we will vigorously defend our audit
work.
Last year, a report by bankruptcy court examiner Michael J. Missal concluded KPMG could be
accused of professional and negligent misrepresentation although the firm had possible legal defenses
to such claims. The 581 page report, unsealed in March 2008, didn t conclude that KPMG engaged in
fraud.
Thomas, the trustee s attorney, won a $521.7 million verdict in a similar lawsuit brought by a

August 2007 that the firm failed to detect a fraud leading to the collapse of a client of Banco Espirito

Cide In The Rocide Genocide
genocide the deliberate killing to eliminate of a group of people of the same race, religion or ethnicity.
This word is derived from a combination of a Greek word genos ( race or tribe ) and a Latin word cide
( killing ). In 1994, in the beginning of April, the same has happened in Rwanda. A genocide.
Before the colonial period in Rwanda, there were three classifications of people. Hutus, who made up
the majority of the population 84%, Tutsi who were only 17% and Twa who only made up 1%. Hutus
were from less privileged families and were cultivators, Tutsis were cattle herders and from rich
families, and Twa were potters and were outshined by the other groups (Stapleton 28). However, these
classifications were based on the number of cattle people owned. People who owned 10 cows or more
were considered Tutsi and people with less than 10 cows were considered Hutu. People could shift
from being a Hutu to a Tutsi or vice versa depending on the number of cattle they had. Before
colonization Tutsis and Hutus lived peacefully (Warren 19).
During the colonial period tensions from all corners, politically, educationally and socially were
created such that hatred and violence was harbored in Hutus and they decided to eliminate fellow
Rwandese, Tutsis. The existence of ethnicities itself did not lead to the Tutsi Genocide since they
existed even before the colonial era.
In 1914 after Germany lost all its colonies, Rwanda which was also one of Germany colonies was

Wales and 1st within Wrexham (See Figure 2). The ward of Queensway is made up of local authority
housing, statistics from the Office of National Statistics (ONS), (2015b) show within the 2011 Census;
the population consisted of 2,685 residents. Ages for the Queensway ward range from 0 90, for
breakdown in age structure (See Figure 3).
3 Capturing Neighbourhood Information
3.1 Methodology
To determine which deprivation domains would be examined within this report on the chosen ward of
Queensway, a search of the WIMD website was concluded. On reviewing the WIMD the findings
ranked the deprived domains out of 85 other Lower Super Output Areas (LSOA) of the Wrexham
Local Authority. The domains included income, employment, health, and education, access to
services, community safety, physical environment and housing.
The statistical data was then required to support the information of the domains selected; which were
employment and education. Statistical data from the Office for National statistics (ONS) website was
extracted via excel and manually converted into graphs to provide a simpler analysis of the findings.
An electronic search was conducted via the

The World Of Sports Arenas
Introduction
In the world of sports arenas there is one that stands as a pivotal high point above almost all other
stadiums. The University of Southern California s mammoth of a stadium, the Los Angeles Memorial
Coliseum is one of the biggest sports stadiums in college football, and has been a standard by which
others are judge. Being declared a land mark by the state of California after nearly 80 years of use, this
structure has had many different uses other than its current purpose of housing one of the most
dominate teams in college football, the Trojans. Since its opening day the stadium has set world record
in attendance and then beaten the same records hosting some of the most famous people in the world.
(Coliseum History) Throughout the 92 years of the stadiums existences many changes have taken
place and the facility has had to adapt to the new century. Advances in construction and design have
allowed the Trojans to stay current and competitive with the new stadiums. One thing remains, and
that is the fact that USC Trojan fans love the unique feel and history that has been made throughout
the walls of the stadium.
History of facility Erected in 1923 the Trojans did not waste time until the first footballs game was
played. On October 6th the team faced off against Pomona College finding their first home victory in
the new stadium. In the first opening game the Trojans played in front of a 12,836 people which was a
relatively small number of people considering they

They Live Movie Essay
The last name of the director of the 1988 science fiction horror film They Live is fitting. Carpenter.
John Carpenter wrote and directed this underappreciated movie, and his last name is fitting because
They Live is clearly inspired by the writings of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels philosophers
primarily concerned about the working man, which, of course, includes carpenters. The basic premise
of this film is that aliens have secretly infiltrated society and actually make up much of the upper
class. These nefarious extraterrestrials have shaped society by facilitating those changes most
favorable to their ends, which is to use up the earth s resources and terraform the planet so that it is
more accommodating to their alien biology. These antagonists ... Show more content on

However, in the film, the proletariat is expanded to include not just the working class but anyone who
does not belong to the upper class; the concentration of wealth that Marx and Engels warn against in
their Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844 is illustrated in a number of scenes that display
humans as struggling to make ends meet while alien imposters almost exclusively enjoy a privileged
existence. (The qualifier almost exclusively is used because a small number of human co conspirators
are also granted entry into the upper class.) For instance, the film begins with the main protagonist,
John Nada, homeless and encountering numerous obstacles in his search for employment; at a state
unemployment office, Nada is told that no jobs are currently available to him, and when he approaches
a foreman about construction work, he is informed in an overtly dismissive tone that the project is a
union job (Carpenter). Another early scene shows two businessmen one human and one alien
discussing recent promotions; the alien received a promotion and placates the stressed human
businessman who did not and who doubts that a promotion is in his near future. Unbeknownst to the
human, his disguised peer belongs to the upper class while he does not. In this dejected businessman,
the aforementioned contention that capitalism leads to an

Something I found particularly fascinating was the intricate process behind making a tomb that is

Comparing The Congruence Of Shakespeare And Montaigne
The Congruence of Shakespeare and Montaigne Envision living in a nation that has achieved the
paramount form of society, one that is ideal in its ethical, social, and political facets. Simple to
imagine but impossible to replicate, and that is, according to Plato s Theory of Forms, because the
physical world is a poor copy of these ideas, these forms, even the ones closest to perfection are
imperfect. That is why a utopia can not be attained in reality. Although, in Montaigne s Of Cannibals,
it is proposed that the natural state is the closest to accomplishing this. The ideas set forth in this work,
chiefly the concept of cultural relativism, influenced Shakespeare in his writing of The Tempest, and
the characters Gonzalo and Caliban portray ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Caliban is subjected to a way of thought that is utterly new to him, given to him from Miranda and
Propsero, and it is said by Montaigne that those who think and act in these way are savage, not just
those who they imposed these ideas upon simply because in their eyes they were deemed as savage.
Even though Caliban is a slave to Prospero and had wicked notions towards him, it is only because his
natural state was altered, which can sometimes lead to an opposite effect than intended. Montaigne
also describes that a nation that is closest to perfection is one with no knowledge of political systems,
letters, numbers etcetera, and Shakespeare concurs with this through representing it in Gonzalo, who
contemplates that if he had the island to rule, he would rule congruently with Montaigne s belief. The
characters of Caliban and Gonzalo both represent Shakespeare s agreement with Montaigne and his
philosophy of cultural

Elvis And Johnny Cash Essay
Historically, genres of popular music have undergone dramatic changes due to changing technology,
social relationships with historical events, ideas and practices and the changing demographics of
listeners. For genres as diverse as country and rock n roll, there have been many changes that were
forced along with cultural movements of the times that influenced and encouraged young people to
express themselves through music and through listening to music. Elvis and Johnny cash where two
huge influences, halfway through Elvis s 20 years of fame, with popularising rock music he opened a
pathway for artists such as Johnny cash who bridged the gap between rock and country music to rise
up and create a movement. Each artist had influenced movements, before Elvis was drafted to the
army; he attracted females for his good looks and use of sexuality in some of his lyrics. After joining
the army, he soon gathered a substantial amount of followers, not just by women but men as well. He

Fear In The Crucible
In 1953, the fear of communists infiltrating America caused a nationwide panic. The nation began a
witch hunt lead by Senator Joseph McCarthy to find these supposed communists. The government
targeted anyone and everyone, especially if they voiced opposition to the trials. Suspects threw
friends, acquaintances, and enemies under the bus to escape persecution. In response to this bout of
unjust trials, Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible, a book about the witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts
in 1692, which later became a movie 1996.
The movie opens in the woods, where the village s young girls are dancing and screaming in various
states of undress. A slave from Barbados named Tituba is doing magic for the girls with local herbs,
chanting like a voodoo witch doctor. Then, in comes Abigail Williams, an arguably mentally unstable
girl, and slices a chicken s throat, covering herself in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fate of every character in the movie is that of the corresponding person in real life. Those that died
in the movie, died in real life during the trials as well. The Crucible depicts the fear and struggles of

most part , but because they truly believed witchcraft was real (wrong way to approach it, but good

However, there are some inaccuracies as well. The plot wasn t based on real life, but to keep readers

incredibly important to stopping the trials didn t even make an appearance. The reason the trials
stopped was because more people began to lie about being a witch, which is the opposite of what
Miller includes in the epilogue. Did John actually have an affair? No. Did Abigail actually become a

The Pros And Methods Of Recidivism
As a nation that constantly strives to progress, there is a consensus that those who commit unlawful
behavior should be sent to correctional institutions, yet the United States government fails to question
whether their traditional prison system legitimately works. One method scholars utilize to measure a
nation s public safety and criminal justice effectiveness is by analyzing the recidivism rate, which is
defined by the National Institute of Justice as the number of released inmates that return to crime
within three years. According to sociologist Victor L Shammas, for every 100,000 people in the
United States, there are 707 incarcerated, with over 75% released relapsing back into crime. The way
minor criminals are stripped of opportunities within society following their release turns them to
harder crime, which transforms into a viscous cycle. It appears that Norway has found the correct
formula for breaking this cycle, a nation in which for every 100,000 people, only 75 are imprisoned,
and only 20% released relapse into crime. The 2016 Legatum Prosperity Index rated Norway as the
sixth safest country globally, and the United States as the fifty second, clearly demonstrating that the
United States government needs to reform its prison policy. Norway s method of imprisoning a
significant portion of offenders into minimum security prisons decreases the crime rate through
implementation of educational and occupational rehabilitation programs and quality healthcare during

The Internal Revenue Service ( Irs )
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is part of the Department of the United States Treasury. It is one
of the most efficient tax administrators in the world. During fiscal year 2012, the IRS $2.5 trillion in
revenue and processed 237 million tax returns. For every $100 it collected in fiscal year 2012, the IRS
spent a mere 48 cents. The mission of the IRS is to provide U.S. taxpayers a top quality service by
helping them pay their taxes, enforce the laws regarding taxes, and assist taxpayers with
understanding their taxes. The IRS values integrity and fairness for all taxpayers. In the U.S.,
Congress passes tax laws and taxpayers are required to comply. The taxpayer s role is to understand
his/her tax obligations and meet them. The IRS role is to help taxpayers be compliant and pursue those
who do not pay their fair share.
The Internal Revenue Code, section 7801, organizes the IRS to carry out the responsibilities of the
secretary of the Treasury. The secretary is granted full authority to administer and enforce the tax laws
and has the power to create the agency (IRS) to enforce those laws. In 1862, President Lincoln and
Congress created an income tax to pay war expenses and the position of commissioner of Internal
Revenue was created. Ten years later, the income tax was repealed. Congress reenacted the tax in 1894
and the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional in 1895. It wasn t until 1913, when Wyoming ratified

Key Findings:
A rise in the older population, 75 yrs and over, from 9% to 13% (29,000) of the total population is
estimated by 2031 for Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot.
An increase in chronic conditions such as circulatory, respiratory diseases, cancers and in the
economically and care dependent populations is therefore likely.
Over one third of households in Swansea contain at least one older person with 26% of households
being occupied solely by older residents this will undoubtedly have implications for future caring and
service provision requirements.
Admissions for pedestrian injuries in 70 89 year old remain higher in those from the most compared to
the least deprived areas as the gap remains unchanged. 30
The crude hip fracture admissions rate in Swansea residents over 75 years has remained largely
unchanged over the last decade with women being roughly double the rate of men.
There are differing rates of hospital utilisation in Swansea in residents aged under 75, with statistically
significiantly high emergency admission in 18 of Swansea s 31 areas, but with a small proportion of
areas with high rates of elective admission.

There are many similarities in the ethical statements/codes of the SAA, SHA, AIA, and RPA. The ones
that pertain to this case are as follows: it is the responsibility of archaeologists to work for the long
term conservation and protection of the archaeological record (SAA 1, AIA 1, RPA 1.1 e). The buying
and selling of objects out of archaeological context is contributing to the destruction of the
archaeological record around the world, and these items should not be traded, sold, bought, or bartered

Also they are to be careful to preserve and protect the archaeological site when publishing and
distributing information about their nature and location (SAA6 and SHA3).
Finally, the last ethical dilemma to be discussed is the importance of archaeologists to inform the
proper authorities when illegal trading, or selling, of artifacts is discovered. In the text it states, The
two project directors reply that they will not purchase the pots themselves, nor will they guarantee that
authorities will not be notified. They do, however, loan the men some gasoline and a video camera for
a day, to record the pots and their location. It is questionable that the two directors would only imply
that they could not promise the authorities would not be notified. It is their duty to do so, according to
the statements and ethical codes of many archaeological organizations. They also give the local
employees gasoline and a video camera for a day leads the reader to believe that they are okay with
this sort of behavior and have no intention of notifying the proper authorities. It also says that because
of the video camera, many of the villagers now know where the cave is, and will likely know what
ends up happening to the pots. Because the villagers now know where the cave is, it is even more
important that the authorities are notified so that similar situations do not arise with villagers
scavenging the cave and finding more

The Impact of Nazi Rule on the People of Germany between 1933 and 1939 Whether the Nazis made
a negative or positive impact on the people of Germany, they most defiantly made one. In making a
decision on what this was I will look at all of the aspects of their aeon, and examine them. The bad
parts of Nazi sovereignty are obvious: there abominable policies concerning minority groups, their
way suppressing the people by removing their rights, using violence and threats and so forth, however
it must also be pointed out that there were good parts of their reign which included increased quality
of peoples leisure time and improvements in the economy. One particular group of people who found

However it would appear to me that it was not entirely impossible for workers to rebel, but factors that
made them better off ie money deterred them from it they were getting a little in return for their loss.
The attack on unemployment also changed a number of things for German men. It can be said that
Nazis greatly reduced problems of unemployment as from when they gained power in 1933 to 1939
unemployment dropped from 6014000 right down to 302000. This looks good on the surface but
underneath shows up a number of faults. Numbers of unemployment were most certainly improved
upon but this was mostly due to rearmament, compulsory military service (this took 1300000 off
unemployment registers), people making weapons equipments and scientist developing food and
material substitutes. This was not essentially a long term solution to Germanys problems but the
impact it had was to give men money and food, which at that time was what they needed. Equally it
was men s partners/partners to be which were affected. Women found themselves influenced in
numerous ways, one of which was marriage. In 1933 the law for the encouragement of marriage was
introduced newly weds were given a 1000 mark government loan, encouraging them to have children.
Not long after in 1934 the ten commandments for choice of partner was established. This meant that
ideal Aryans were encouraged to marry

Intelligence And Weapons Of Mass Destruction Programs
Introduction and Purpose Statement
Intelligence has proved to be essential to military actions since antiquity, particularly concerning
invasions from a nation s military. Invading Iraq due to the determination of the continued Weapon of
Mass Destruction programs in 2003 resulted, in part from intelligence received by human intelligence
sources. The specific cause that led to the initial determination to invade was the belief that Iraq
maintained a Weapon of Mass Destruction program at the same time also suggesting that Saddam had
links to Terror groups. Additionally, the Iraqi Weapon of Mass Destruction Programs during the 1998
inspection from the United Nations led to the assessment of the weapon systems in Iraqi.
Consequently, the Iraq war had resulted in thousands dead along including an unstable nation.
Inquiries post invasion revealed critical flaws within the intelligence collected. Much of the
information provided to the Central Intelligence Agency along with the National Security Council
from human intelligence proved to be incorrect. Furthermore, the incorrect information had
compounded the issue with a limited network of assets in Iraq to verify the intelligence received. One
of the most important intelligence failures of the 21st Century is seen in the invasion of Iraq. How can
the review of intelligence collections conducted on pre war Iraq Weapons of Mass Destruction
programs better determine the faults in intelligence received from human intelligence sources,

the organization working properly and having the organization function properly. Moreover, they must

On the daily basis, the Department of Transportation receives hundreds of letters and e mails
regarding various transportation related issues. However, that is one of the Department of
Transportation weaknesses. Therefore, Steve Anderson a middle level manager with exceptional skills
in problem solving was up for the task (Lee, 2002). Moreover, Steve started analyzing the problem
that the Department of Transportation had on responding the tremendous amounts of letter and e
mails. Therefore, Steve began implementing new strategies to improve the Department of
Transportation responding time. Furthermore, the agency started posting 35 news releases monthly to
have the public inform on various types of information regarding transportation issues (Lee, 2002).
Likewise, another of the strategies that Steve begin utilizing citizen participation components. The
Department of Transportation started using according to Lee (2002), focus group sessions, conducting
surveys, newsletters, and brochures (p.205). However, despite the Department of Transportation effort
the problem would not get resolve due to the lack of community participation. Moreover, as Steve
notice that the number of complaints has not diminished significantly, he came to a conclusion. The
conclusion that Steve came to is that the root of the problem is the absence of cooperation among
different units either inside or outside the agency (Lee, 2002). Further, Steve believes that sometimes

Intangibles and Reserves The Shaw Group SOLUTION
Please refer to the attached Shaw Group case to answer the following questions. 1. What does the
Goodwill from Shaw s acquisitions represent (i.e., what are some of the economic assets that comprise
this account)? Which intangible assets and liabilities does Shaw amortize over time? Which
intangibles, if any, are not amortized? Shaw defines Goodwill as the excess of the purchase price of
acquisitions over the fair value of the net assets acquired (Note 1). The net assets acquired include not
only tangible assets and liabilities, such as accounts receivable and PP E, but all separately identifiable
and transferable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the extra profit of these contracts was recognized at acquisition, there must be a reduction in
profits recognized at contract completion to avoid double counting. The amortization of contract
liability adjustments (and accrued contract losses) reduces costs of revenues. Again, the extra losses of
the contracts were recognized at acquisition, so cost of revenues is reduced to avoid double counting.

The Rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in Iran Essay
The Rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in Iran
Over the course of the last century, the Islamic Republic of Iran (formerly known as Persia) has seen
colonialism, the end of a dynasty, the installation of a government by a foreign power, and just over
three decades ago, the popular uprising and a cleric led revolution. These events preceded what could
be considered the world s first Islamic state, as politics and fundamentalist religion are inextricably
linked in contemporary Iran. Looking at Iran from the mid 1940 s until the present day, one can trace
the path that led to the rise of fundamental Islam in Iran in three distinct periods. The first is that
which began with the rise of secular nationalism and the decline of Islam. In ... Show more content on

In a classic case of western countries meddling in the foreign affairs of a sovereign nation for their
own national interests, the American CIA and British intelligence conspired to topple the
democratically elected government in 1953. They succeeded in restoring the exiled Pahlavi dynasty to
power by installing Reza Shah Pahlavi s son, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi as the Shah of Iran. After
taking office, Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi continued and expanded upon a policy of westernization
begun by his father and aggressively repressed Iran s fundamental Islamists to consolidate his power.
The Pahlavi dynasty s restoration fostered anger among the citizens, as Muhammad Reza Shah
Pahlavi was seen as a western puppet and therefore a more contemporary extension of the humiliating
colonialism endured at the hands of the west. Fostering women s rights, western dress, toleration of
alcohol and the suppression of Islamic customs, traditions and clothing all served to earn him the ire
of the general population and Islamic clerics. Milton Edwards (2006) referred to this accelerated
secularism (p. 37) as being part of the erosion of religious elements in Iran. Muhammad Reza Shah
Pahlavi thought himself loved by the people, but popular sentiment was against him; and completely
behind an exiled Iranian cleric living in Paris named Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Ayatollah
Khomeini had been writing papers

  • 2. The Major Causes Of The Glorious Revolution Major Causes of the Glorious Revolution of 1688 The Glorious Revolution of 1688 was the successful invasion of England by the Dutch Republic lead by William of Orange. William of Orange s invasion of England was in large part due to the political division occurring in England from the periods before. The English nobles were uneasy with the current monarchy, King James II, during the time before the Glorious Revolution. This uneasiness began during the Restoration period of England between 1660 and 1688. King Charles II ruled from 1660 to 1685, when he dies and his brother James II succeeds him and rules until 1688. From 1660 to 1667, King Charles II rules with his leading minister Edward Hyde and the Cavalier Parliament under an Anglican Royalist consensus. This period of time restored the natural political and social order for England. The Clarendon Code is passed during this time and secures the Church of England s supremacy over the country s religious life, by making it difficult for people from other religions to hold their own churches. The Clarendon Code consisted of the Corporation Act of 1661, the Act of Uniformity of 1662, the Conventicle Act of 1664, and the Five Mile Act of 1665. Then from 1665 to 1667, the second Anglo Dutch War is fought and the Dutch were victorious. This War was caused by King Charles II s hate of the Dutch politics and its housing of former English radicals and exiles and for an increase of England s naval development and revenue. From ... The Preprocessing Phase Of Speaker Recognition Systems The preprocessing phase in speaker recognition systems is used to give subsequent stages (features extraction, modeling, and features matching) an intensification efficiency. Therefore, the system performance is improved regarding classification rate and computing time. In this chapter, we define the most important step in the pre processing and we followed by analyzing the reason of chosen algorithms and its impressions in a Speaker Identification System (SIS). 2.1 Pre processing Structure gCommonly the pre processing includes the sampling step, windowing, and a denoising step. At the end of the preprocessing, the compressed and filtered speech frames are forwarded to the feature extraction stage. The broad preprocessing pipeline is shown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A study of Sanderson al [23] have exposed that a combination of feature vector size and a chosen sampling frequency has a direct impact on system performance. Figure 4, present a wave file sampled at f = 16 kHz. 2.1.2 Windowing Frame Blocking A term of quasi stationary describes a slow variation in a given domain. In speech analysis, features of an observed segment of a signal with a period Ts=(5 100 ms) could fairly be stationary. The information in a speech signal is could be represented by short term amplitude spectrum representation. The framing procedure is multiplying the speech wave with a windowing function. The signal is weighted in the time domain (convolution) and divided into a sequence of partial signals in the specter domain. By doing so, we improve time information of every partial signal. In speech processing, There are various windowing functions, each with different shapes and different characteristics. The form of the window function is not a critical factor. Usually, some soft window like the Von Hann, rectangular, hanning or hamming window [24] are used to decrease incoherence of the speech signal at the boundaries of each frame segment. In this work, a Hamming window is used and given by: 2.1.3 Silence Background Noise Removal (Endpoint Detection): Depending on the purposes of the speech processing technique, preprocessing could include Noise Removal, Endpoint Detection, Pre emphasis, Framing, Windowing, etc. ... • 6. The Germ Theory Of Modern Medicine And Vaccines Morgan Brewer Mrs. Canuette H. English III 10 November 2015 The Germ Theory The germ theory is crucial in the development of modern medicine and vaccines. It states that many diseases are caused by the presence of specific microorganisms within the body and that infectious diseases caused by infectious agents. It was a theory developed in the middle 1800 s, by Louis Pasteur, Robert Koch, and Joseph Lister. This theory still underlines contemporary bio medicine. It s responsible for the reduction in the numbers of infectious diseases. The development of the theory eliminated environmental, diet, and climate influence on disease. The germ theory is closely associated with existing ideas about health, hygiene, and sanitation. It encouraged the reduction of disease to simple interactions with microorganisms and their host. The development was largely initiated largely by the Industrial Revolution. Infections and disease have been the biggest challenge to human health. This theory is also known as the Pathogenic Theory of Medicine. It revolutionized medicine, understanding diseases, and the microorganisms that cause them. Infectious diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi; the diseases can be spread, directly or indirectly, from one person to another (World Health Organization). Summer break gives families more time to make memories, it releases stress off of the students and teachers, it also gives more time for events to be made. Summer break can help out on a lot. No kids would want to stay in a hot classroom all year round when they could be outside enjoying the summer days. The first reason why kids should have summer break is because summers are made for making memories. According to Gary Huggins, kids need to enjoy time and vacation with their families. Vacation is freedom for everyone, including the students and teachers. Furthermore, Huggins believes that you can tie in what you ve learned over the year with memories you re making in the summer (Huggins). • 10. The Islamic Civilization And Islam One cannot have an adequate and well versed discussion about Islamic civilization without first defining two key terms: Civilization and Islam. Associate Professor at Washington University in St. Louis, Ahmet Karamustafa, defines civilizations as, nothing more than a particular, even unique combination of ideas and practice that groups of human actors who are the real agents of human history affirm as their own and use to define and develop their own sense of presence and agency in the world (Karamustafa 103). Thus, guided by this definition, we have an understanding of Islamic Civilization as a religious movement guided by the mandates of God. Of course, anywhere where there is human organization and interaction, there will be politics involved. Although there were some political aspects in the community of the Believers under the leadership of the prophet, at the core of this movement was the belief in his prophetic authority. I will argue that Islam, despite all the political implications it has had throughout history, is ultimately rooted in religious belief, submission to God, and living a pious life in accordance with God s commands for achieving eternal salvation. Furthermore, In the course of this paper, I will give a brief introduction of Islamic civilization broken up into four parts that are integral to understanding Islamic civilization: Politics and religion in the early community of the believers, governance after the death of the prophet, ... Different feminist perspectives prior to the theory of ecofeminism and how they handled the mutual relationship between women and nature and how this led to the emergence of the theory of ecofeminism. During the last centuries, and especially after the emergence of the Industrial Revolution, a degradation of our nature has been witnessed. This degradation has occurred in many natural elements: air, water, and soil. Global warming, pollution, water contamination, unstable weather, and many dysfunctions of the once stable earth has made thinkers consider the reason why such deficiencies occur, and how to get things right before it is too late to take an action and our earth goes beyond repair. • 20. Cide In The Rocide Genocide genocide the deliberate killing to eliminate of a group of people of the same race, religion or ethnicity. This word is derived from a combination of a Greek word genos ( race or tribe ) and a Latin word cide ( killing ). In 1994, in the beginning of April, the same has happened in Rwanda. A genocide. Before the colonial period in Rwanda, there were three classifications of people. Hutus, who made up the majority of the population 84%, Tutsi who were only 17% and Twa who only made up 1%. Hutus were from less privileged families and were cultivators, Tutsis were cattle herders and from rich families, and Twa were potters and were outshined by the other groups (Stapleton 28). However, these classifications were based on the number of cattle people owned. People who owned 10 cows or more were considered Tutsi and people with less than 10 cows were considered Hutu. People could shift from being a Hutu to a Tutsi or vice versa depending on the number of cattle they had. Before colonization Tutsis and Hutus lived peacefully (Warren 19). During the colonial period tensions from all corners, politically, educationally and socially were created such that hatred and violence was harbored in Hutus and they decided to eliminate fellow Rwandese, Tutsis. The existence of ethnicities itself did not lead to the Tutsi Genocide since they existed even before the colonial era. John Carpenter wrote and directed this underappreciated movie, and his last name is fitting because They Live is clearly inspired by the writings of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels philosophers primarily concerned about the working man, which, of course, includes carpenters. The basic premise of this film is that aliens have secretly infiltrated society and actually make up much of the upper class. These nefarious extraterrestrials have shaped society by facilitating those changes most favorable to their ends, which is to use up the earth s resources and terraform the planet so that it is more accommodating to their alien biology. However, in the film, the proletariat is expanded to include not just the working class but anyone who does not belong to the upper class; the concentration of wealth that Marx and Engels warn against in their Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844 is illustrated in a number of scenes that display humans as struggling to make ends meet while alien imposters almost exclusively enjoy a privileged existence. (The qualifier almost exclusively is used because a small number of human co conspirators are also granted entry into the upper class.) For instance, the film begins with the main protagonist, John Nada, homeless and encountering numerous obstacles in his search for employment; at a state unemployment office, Nada is told that no jobs are currently available to him, and when he approaches a foreman about construction work, he is informed in an overtly dismissive tone that the project is a union job (Carpenter). Another early scene shows two businessmen one human and one alien discussing recent promotions; the alien received a promotion and placates the stressed human businessman who did not and who doubts that a promotion is in his near future. Comparing The Congruence Of Shakespeare And Montaigne The Congruence of Shakespeare and Montaigne Envision living in a nation that has achieved the paramount form of society, one that is ideal in its ethical, social, and political facets. Simple to imagine but impossible to replicate, and that is, according to Plato s Theory of Forms, because the physical world is a poor copy of these ideas, these forms, even the ones closest to perfection are imperfect. That is why a utopia can not be attained in reality. Although, in Montaigne s Of Cannibals, it is proposed that the natural state is the closest to accomplishing this. Even though Caliban is a slave to Prospero and had wicked notions towards him, it is only because his natural state was altered, which can sometimes lead to an opposite effect than intended. Montaigne also describes that a nation that is closest to perfection is one with no knowledge of political systems, letters, numbers etcetera, and Shakespeare concurs with this through representing it in Gonzalo, who contemplates that if he had the island to rule, he would rule congruently with Montaigne s belief. The nation began a witch hunt lead by Senator Joseph McCarthy to find these supposed communists. The government targeted anyone and everyone, especially if they voiced opposition to the trials. In response to this bout of unjust trials, Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible, a book about the witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692, which later became a movie 1996. The movie opens in the woods, where the village s young girls are dancing and screaming in various states of undress. • 30. The Pros And Methods Of Recidivism As a nation that constantly strives to progress, there is a consensus that those who commit unlawful behavior should be sent to correctional institutions, yet the United States government fails to question whether their traditional prison system legitimately works. One method scholars utilize to measure a nation s public safety and criminal justice effectiveness is by analyzing the recidivism rate, which is defined by the National Institute of Justice as the number of released inmates that return to crime within three years. According to sociologist Victor L Shammas, for every 100,000 people in the United States, there are 707 incarcerated, with over 75% released relapsing back into crime. The way minor criminals are stripped of opportunities within society following their release turns them to harder crime, which transforms into a viscous cycle. It appears that Norway has found the correct formula for breaking this cycle, a nation in which for every 100,000 people, only 75 are imprisoned, and only 20% released relapse into crime. The 2016 Legatum Prosperity Index rated Norway as the sixth safest country globally, and the United States as the fifty second, clearly demonstrating that the United States government needs to reform its prison policy. Norway s method of imprisoning a significant portion of offenders into minimum security prisons decreases the crime rate through implementation of educational and occupational rehabilitation programs and quality healthcare during ... In the text it states, The two project directors reply that they will not purchase the pots themselves, nor will they guarantee that authorities will not be notified. What does the Goodwill from Shaw s acquisitions represent (i.e., what are some of the economic assets that comprise this account)? Which intangible assets and liabilities does Shaw amortize over time? Which intangibles, if any, are not amortized? Shaw defines Goodwill as the excess of the purchase price of acquisitions over the fair value of the net assets acquired (Note 1). The net assets acquired include not only tangible assets and liabilities, such as accounts receivable and PP E, but all separately identifiable and transferable ... Because the extra profit of these contracts was recognized at acquisition, there must be a reduction in profits recognized at contract completion to avoid double counting. The amortization of contract liability adjustments (and accrued contract losses) reduces costs of revenues. Again, the extra losses of the contracts were recognized at acquisition, so cost of revenues is reduced to avoid double counting. 3. The Rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in Iran Essay The Rise of Islamic Fundamentalism in Iran Over the course of the last century, the Islamic Republic of Iran (formerly known as Persia) has seen colonialism, the end of a dynasty, the installation of a government by a foreign power, and just over three decades ago, the popular uprising and a cleric led revolution. These events preceded what could be considered the world s first Islamic state, as politics and fundamentalist religion are inextricably linked in contemporary Iran. The first is that which began with the rise of secular nationalism and the decline of Islam. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a classic case of western countries meddling in the foreign affairs of a sovereign nation for their own national interests, the American CIA and British intelligence conspired to topple the democratically elected government in 1953. They succeeded in restoring the exiled Pahlavi dynasty to power by installing Reza Shah Pahlavi s son, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi as the Shah of Iran. After taking office, Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi continued and expanded upon a policy of westernization begun by his father and aggressively repressed Iran s fundamental Islamists to consolidate his power. The Pahlavi dynasty s restoration fostered anger among the citizens, as Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi was seen as a western puppet and therefore a more contemporary extension of the humiliating colonialism endured at the hands of the west. Fostering women s rights, western dress, toleration of alcohol and the suppression of Islamic customs, traditions and clothing all served to earn him the ire of the general population and Islamic clerics. Milton Edwards (2006) referred to this accelerated secularism (p. 37) as being part of the erosion of religious elements in Iran. Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlavi thought himself loved by the people, but popular sentiment was against him; and completely behind an exiled Iranian cleric living in Paris named Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
