5. Use and Condition of the Facilities The Raymond School District campus includes an Elementary School, Jr/Sr. High School, Athletic Complex and Bus Garage. All facilities are on a single campus. All facilities are new or in very good condition.

6. Staff Assignments Raymond School District employs a total of forty certified teachers. In addition, forty-three full and part-time classified staff provide general support in clerical, food service, transportation and instructional assistant roles. There are fourteen teachers regularly assigned to Raymond Elementary School for Kindergarten through Sixth grades all funded by basic education. In addition the elementary school has two special education teachers, one Title I coordinator, one Transitional Bilingual teacher, one science specialist, and one physical education teacher. One pre-school special education teacher serves three and four year olds in an early intervention program. One principal serves the building. The Junior/Senior High has eleven teachers assigned to the various subject matter areas, two special education teachers, three vocational instructors, one principal, one Alternative Education Teacher, and one Guidance Counselor. 8. Raymond Elementary School Raymond Elementary, located at 921 Commercial Street, was built in 1955 and completely remodeled in 1997. The facility is in very good condition. The elementary has 22 classrooms, four commons areas and a gym. All elementary classrooms are wired for phones and have additional infrastructure for technology, including 100 Mbps ethernet and wi-fi access.

13. Elementary School Improvement Plan Raymond Elementary School is a place where we are a school family. The staff is dedicated and caring, and they work hard to present the best curriculum with a caring heart. Raymond Elementary continues to focus on our School Improvement Plan (SIP) that was written and revised last year. Our SIP plan is our “school compass” for the 2008/2009 school year. It is available for community viewing in our elementary office. Our Content Area Committees Teams met with all last year, to set new objectives. The new plan will be reviewed in 2009. We again, have three major areas that are high priority: reading, writing and math. The Read Right program continues in our school. This program meets the recommendations of the National Reading Panel. It is a student-centered tutoring program that is highly effective, particularly with pre-adolescent and adolescent struggling readers. The methodology is delivered in a small-group format with a ratio of one tutor to four students (1:4) and is highly structured so that every student receives an individualized reading intervention and individualized guidance at the moment when it is needed. Staff and students are excited about this intervention program for our struggling readers. Step-Up-To-Writing has continued to be our writing curriculum. The students are enjoying this program, and our writing scores on the WASL have gone up. We are a member of the Math Leadership Alliance which provides training in the new math standards. ESD 113 is also providing us with a math expert to assist teacher in teaching to the new standards. We use the “Bridges to Math” curriculum. Our science program, FOSS has been completed in all grades and will have the strength of the program spiral through the grades. Students are involved in hands-on-inquiry based learning and are enjoying the curriculum. This year should solidify the science program with all kits being taught through the grade levels. Our PTA continues its dedicated work by providing exciting and enriching activities such as: Missoula Children’s Theatre, Perpetual Motion, Family Fun Night, recess bake sales and other worthwhile activities throughout the year.

14. Raymond Junior/Senior High School Raymond Junior/Senior High School, located at 1016 Commercial Street, is a 38,000 square foot facility which was completed in 2002. The facility includes 22 classrooms, a commons area, gym, library, a state-of-the-art kitchen and a new auto shop. All classrooms are wired for phones and have additional technology infrastructure, including 100 Mbps ethernet and wi-fi access .

19. Jr/Sr High School Improvement Plan The school improvement plan for Raymond High School is more of a process than a plan as we are constantly moving toward educational improvement as guided by staff, students, parents, and community leaders. We failed to reach the federal AYP school goals in 1 area of the 37 possible, and we are working to correct that. This plan is designed to help students meet the goals of Washington's basic education system: to become responsible citizens, to contribute to their own economic well-being and that of their families and communities, and to enjoy productive and satisfying lives. Our instructional program consists of a typical seven period day with 50-minute classes and a four-minute passing time. High school graduation requirements of 26 credits exceed the state requirement of nineteen credits. In addition to state mandated core classes, we also offer elective classes such as band. chorus, art, carpentry, publishing, theater design, business math, accelerated math, anatomy/physiology, careers/digitools, and others. We have extended the educational offerings to include on-line classes in Spanish, ESL English, and global studies history. To accomplish our mission of "every child learning", we will adhere to the following principles: Providing the highest quality comprehensive programs Incorporating flexibility into individual programs Addressing changes in our world and responding to emerging needs Facilitating the successful transition to further education and careers Building a culture that values and honors educational achievement Creating and implementing measurement systems that continually evaluate and encourage specific improvement We continue to implement our 1-to-1 laptop program by issuing all incoming 9th grade students a lap-top computer to use in their classrooms and at home. 21. Where do we go from here? Our testing trends show us that while there has been improvement and strong performance in many areas, we still have some challenges facing us; of the possible 111 federal Annual Yearly Progress standards that apply to school districts, we missed making 1 of them. We are committed to every child reaching his or her potential. If we are serious about mission of “every child learning”, some change is in order. We have put into place a system of frequent assessments that allows us to track standards-based progress for individuals, classrooms, grade levels, schools and the district as a whole. Teachers are using real-time data to adjust instruction and reach the high standards that have been set by the state.

22. I-728 Funds Use In 2001 the voters of our State overwhelmingly passed I-728 “to improve public education and to achieve higher academic standards for all students through smaller classes and other improvements.” The following are the standards of implementation of the Initiative: (1) reducing class size by hiring more teachers; (2) providing extended learning opportunities such as full-day kindergarten and before- or after-school programs; (3) providing additional professional development for educators tied to State standards and student needs; (4) providing early assistance for children who need pre-kindergarten support; and (5) making facility improvements to directly support class size reductions and extended learning opportunities. Our district used its most recent allocation to do the following as recommended by a staff-community committee and approved by the Raymond School Board: extended learning for high school students and other learning opportunities beyond the normal school day.
