Performance Management Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Performance Management" presents its own set of
challenges, requiring a nuanced understanding of various concepts within the realm of
organizational behavior and human resource management. One must delve into the intricacies of
performance appraisal, employee development, and the establishment of effective feedback
mechanisms. The complexity of the topic demands a comprehensive exploration of both
theoretical frameworks and practical applications.
To begin with, researching and gathering relevant literature is a formidable task. The field of
performance management is dynamic, and staying abreast of the latest theories, models, and
industry best practices is essential. Navigating through academic journals, authoritative books,
and credible online sources can be time-consuming but is crucial for constructing a well-
informed and academically sound essay.
Once the research is complete, synthesizing the information into a coherent and logical structure
is the next hurdle. Developing a thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of performance
management and serves as a guiding thread throughout the essay requires careful consideration.
Creating an outline that organizes the content into introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion
is vital to ensuring a seamless flow of ideas.
Moreover, addressing the multifaceted nature of performance management necessitates a
balanced exploration of its various components. This includes delving into the significance of
goal-setting, the role of feedback in performance improvement, and the challenges associated
with appraising employee performance. Balancing depth and breadth while maintaining relevance
to the chosen essay focus can be a delicate task.
The writing process itself requires a command of language and a skillful ability to articulate
complex concepts. Striking the right balance between academic rigor and accessibility for a
diverse readership is essential. Ensuring clarity and coherence in conveying ideas is paramount,
as the essay should engage the reader while conveying a deep understanding of the subject
matter.
Lastly, the task of revising and editing cannot be overlooked. Careful proofreading is necessary
to eliminate grammatical errors, enhance clarity, and refine the overall quality of the essay. This
iterative process may involve multiple revisions to fine-tune arguments, improve sentence
structures, and ensure that the essay meets the standards of academic excellence.
In conclusion, tackling the intricacies of a "Performance Management Essay" demands a
combination of extensive research, thoughtful organization, clear articulation, and meticulous
revision. It is a process that requires dedication, time, and a commitment to excellence. For those

My Lost Vacation
One of the best vacations I have been on is when I went to Las Vegas, Nevada,
becuase it s one out of the two vacations I ve ever been on. I went on this trip with
my mom and my dad. This was the first time my parents and I have been to Vegas.
One of the main reasons we went to Vegas was for the Motocross Championships.
We left early in the morning at 5:00 am to make out flight in Cedar Rapids. We flew
to Denver, Colorado and then flew from Denver to Las Vegasarriving sometime in
the middle of the day. When we got to Las Vegas we went to get a car rental. We
met this cool guy that we rented the car from because he gave us a good deal by
giving us a mid size car rental but only charging us for a compact size car. After we
got our car rental we went to go eat at the Mexican restaurant. This Mexican
restaurant looked like this old beat down little building but was a bomb restaurant.
This Mexican restaurant was one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. It was
amazingly delicious. After all our bellies were full we decided to go see the Vegas
strip where all the famous buildings and places were.
Later after we were done exploring we went back to our resort and wandered
around, then went to bed. The time schedule was different so we were staying up
till about 2 in the morning from Vegas, but about 12 pm in Iowa. The next morning
we wake up and go downstairs and get a cup of Starbucks coffee. After we got our
coffee we would go hang out by the pool outside or I would
Spring River Case Study
To fully analyze Spring Creek, the collected samples must be representative of the
depth and width of this creek. To make sure that the width of all the samples was
represented, the boat moved side to side of the entire channel of as samples of the
water surface were collected. To get samples that are representative of the depth, the
geologists sampled the upper 0.2 to 2.5m of the riverusing a three meter long tube
with a diameter of five centimeters. The shores of the SpringCreek were also sampled
in order to determine if there was any deposition of heavy metals along the shores
(Alpers, Taylor, Domagalski, 2000).
The EPA used data that was collected from the SCDD by the United States Bureau
of Reclamation (USBR) In the 1960s, the USBR dammed Spring Creek with the
SCDD to prevent heavy metals from dispersing throughout the Spring Creek water
system. The installation of the dam allowed the USBR to analyze the water
collected from the SCDD for copper and zinc levels. From then on, the USBR would
determine the average daily discharge calculated from the gates of ... Show more

As a result, the nearby water systems became filled with pollution. The EPA has
taken action to ensure the reduction of the contaminant levels and to prevent the
contamination from spreading further into other water systems. They began to install
several water treatment plants to clean the water out. As the EPA tries to remediate
the Iron Mountain Mine, they have been analyzing water samples from the Spring
Creek to determine if the levels have changed. Thanks to the efforts by the EPA, the
levels of contamination has reduced significantly by at least 80%. The percent
reduction of heavy metals continues to rise due to the efforts set by the EPA.
Although the levels have declined, there still needs to be continued efforts to ensure
that the Iron Mountain Mine no longer pollutes nearby the water
A Reflection On The Racquetball Curriculum
The racquetball curriculum has a lot to offer outside the realm of physical activity.
Racquetball proves to be great exercise, but can also be a great learning experience.
My time throughout the class has been a wonderful learning experience. After
completing the racquetball course I will have learned plenty in which I can apply to
my futurelife. Before my enrollment in racquetball I had little to no knowledge of
the sport. If someone had asked me to describe the sport as a whole I would not have
been able to adequately do so. Having no knowledge of the rules, terminology, or
tactics behind the game, one could conclude that I knew next to nothing about
racquetball. During the length of the course I spent much of my time on the court
learning, improving, and developing an understanding of the activity. I have
developed an appreciation for the game and those who play it. Racquetball itself
proves to be much more complex than what I had originally though. Cleary simply
hitting the ball does not prove to be an proficient play style as I had once assumed.
This will no doubt defer me from making assumptions about other sports in the
future. This was a worthwhile learning experience as a whole, and developing an
appreciation for the game is not the only thing I will take away from this class.
Alongside debunking any misconceptions I once had, racquetball also reinforced the
importance of diet in the everyday lifestyle. Aside from the countless things learned
on the court, I

How Does Morgan Spurlock Use Satire In Supersize Me
Good morning everybody. Welcome to Generation Now. I am Briana and today I
will be talking to you about Super Size Me. Super Size Me is a 2004 documentary
of social commentary which follows Morgan Spurlock, an American independent
filmmaker who ate only McDonald s food for 30 days. The film documents this
lifestyle s dramatic effect on Spurlock s physical and mental well being, while
exploring the fast food industry s corporate influence and contribution to the
American obesity epidemic. Super Size Me aims to inform its audience about
America s obesity crisis and to convince them that fast food chains should be liable
for this epidemic issue. Why are Americans so overweight? Two words: fast food. So
what would happen if you ate nothing but fast food for an entire month? Concerned
about the increasing rate of obesity in America, filmmaker... Show more content on

An example of this is the repeated use of sarcasm and satire. Sarcasm is used
frequently in the documentary as a way of dismissing opposing views and
reinforcing the key issues. One example of sarcasm in Super Size Me is America
has now become the fattest nation in the world. Congratulations Spurlock uses satire
as a way of poking fun and ridiculing the fast food industry, helping to convince the
audience of his claims. An example of satire in Super Size Me is the quote:
McDonalds is everywhere. Walmarts, airports, department stores, amusement parks,
even hospitals. Thats right, hospitals. At least you re close when the coronary kicks
in. In this quote Spurlock is reinforcing the idea that fast food is toxic, while making
fun McDonalds and their decisions. Another example of humour as a persuasive
technique in Super Size Me is the use funny, informative cartoons. The following
cartoon shows the process in which McDonalds chicken nuggets are made. (play
Effective Communication For The Workplace
Someone once said great communication is a skill that is needed in life. I believe
great communication can take an individual very far in life. Effective communication
helps connect with people. It can open many doors for many jobs. It lets the employer
know whom they have hired, and how intelligent the person really is. In the business
profession, effective communicationenables managers to give understandable
instructions to their employees. Effective communication will help state what is
expected from workers. I believe effective communication can be used in all aspects
of the workplace.
First, Susan Adams from Forbes wrote Good grammar is important in life. Using
correct grammar in the workplace shows the intelligence of the worker. It also
shows how well thoughts are put together before speaking. Using good grammar
can also show employers that an employee can accomplish other tasks on the job
no matter what it is. For example the employee can be asked to give a formal
speech because the employer trusts that the employee will use the right language
when talking. Good grammar also shows the company that the employee cares
about his personal image, the company image, and that s what makes the company
stand out from other companies. Good grammar shows who the person is, for
example what type of establishment have they grown up around. It also shows what
type of people the company hires (Adams). Kyle Adams wrote in the Harvard
Business Review, if a people are watching
Federal Deficit And The National Debt
This paper is about the last 15 years of the federal deficit and the national debt, as
well as examination their relationship. This paper also looks at how the deficit is
created and dealt with, along with what happens to different areas of the economy
when the deficit s size changes. Lastly this paper covers who owns the national debt,
how these people are paid off, and the interest rate of the debt.
Federal Budget Deficit with a sprinkle if National Debt (1, 2, 3) The federal budget
deficit and the national debt are two different things, but are connected in a
parasitic way. The federal budget deficit is when the government spends more than
in receives; it is also a flow value, meaning that the amount of the deficit is
something that occurs over time (Miller, 2014). The deficit for the past 15 years is
shown in Appendix A, and the deficit is the host, not the parasite. The national debt
however is the parasite, and it is known as the total value of all federal government
deficits minus the amount that the government has repaid. The debt is also a stock
value, or something measured at an exact point in time, and its last 15 years appears
in Appendix B (Miller, 2014). The reason why the deficit and debt are in a parasitic
relationship is because the budget deficit can exist without the debt, like a host does
not need a parasite, but the debt cannot live without the deficit. The federal budget
deficit comes into existence when the government spends more than it earns
John Foster s Car On Fire Case Study
In this specific scenario, Caroline failed to report John freely admitting that he
wants to set his foster mother s car on fire. Caroline also did not document this
thoroughly in the case note. As a professional, if a case like this brings questioning
and concern, it lies in caseworker s duty to report this to either her supervisor or the
CEO of the agency where she works.
In the National Association for Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics, duty to warn
is stated in section 4.06. Caroline failed in her duty to document and warn, which
ultimately resulted in John lighting his foster s car on fire.
As a caseworker, the client should always be viewed as a priority. Once John
expresses his plan, the caseworker should have immediately told someone that
works above her, like a supervisor. In any state, setting a fire to someone s car is
evidence of property damage and as a minor, it could be viewed as a felony. In
completing the simple task of telling a supervisor and documenting the intent, this
could have been avoided. Maintaining detailed moment by moment documentation
of the conversation between the client and the caseworker is crucial to provide the
best service. This could have helped the caseworker study his case report thoroughly
to see if some of his behaviors in the past gave a clear indication of his actions. ...

of the first things I did as CEO was to initiate an effort to re examine our core

Social Media And Health Behavior
Social Media and Health Behavior Social media is affecting all age groups and
contributes to how the nation shares and receives information, including vital topics
such as their health. The correlation between the use of social media and health
behavior is valuable to nurses and patients alike. It can be manipulated to provide
accurate health information, influence healthier lifestyle changes, and reach a larger
audience about specific events in the community. Social media can hinder health
behaviors in individuals with little guidance and lack the knowledge to sort through
credible information, because they may not feel the need to seek medical help. With
nurses available to reach the vast majority through technology, they can guide a more
positive health attitude and prevent a negative outlook. With social media
applications expanding, seizing the opportunity to spread a wealth of material at the
click of a button can play a role in managing positive health behaviors. The
following information focuses on how social media can promote health conscious
behaviors in many patients and individuals while exploring the overall impact, the
role of the nurse, and controversy with this technology. Social media is a common
vector for searching, sharing, and receiving all types of information. Due to hand
held accessibility, many opt to search for health care topics via applications on the
Internet or cell phone. As 85% of Americans are using the Internet in some way, a

Biopsychosocial Model Of Phobia Research Paper
People are social animal. They live within a certain social, economic, and religious
norms and behavior. Therefore, people who behave in unacceptable way, are called
mental disorder, mental illness, or madness. Consequently, the definition of mental
disorder is going to be changed according to place and period (Moran, 2009). In
ancient Greece, people with severe mental illness were believed to be shaped by
angry gods; they were undeniably harmed (Kirby and Keon, 2004).Furthermore in the
17th and early 18th centuries, people understood mental illness as an excess of desire.
They did not encourage kindness or patience; rather, they was familiar with justifying
living conditions. In the 19th and 20th centuries, due to more scientific approach...

Dorothea Lange And John Steinbeck
During Great Depression, Dorothea Lange and John Steinbeck made a big in pact by
using their art. They showed the world, all the thing that people were going through
that others didn t know. John used his great talent as a writer taught and explained to
other people things that were happening during those times.
John Steinbeck was born on February 27, 1903, in Salinas, California. He was the
second of four children. His mother was Olive Hamilton who was a former teacher
and his father was John Ernst Steinbeck the treasurer of Monterey County. His
family was middle class. His mother taught him to love reading and writing when
he was little. In his summers John worked as a farm hand on the nearby Spreckels
sugar beet farm. John graduated from high school in 1919 and he attended
Stanford University. After study for some years, he decided to drop out college
and started to work as a manual labor. In November 1925 he decided to move to
New York City where he worked as a construction worker and a newspaper reporter.
In there he only lived for a year and then he returned back to California. He started
to write books and by 1929 he published his first book called Cup of Gold. His first
book was about Henry Morgan an adventurous pirate. In October 1929 just two
months after John published his first book, Great Depression occurred. John met
Carol Henning whom he married on January 14, 1930. He continues writing and he
published The Pastures of Heaven in 1932 and To a God
Analysis Of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind
The film Close Encounters of the Third Kind drew upon the alien and UFO craze
that was going on in the 1970s. The film was written and directed by Steven
Spielberg and released in the year 1977. This film doesn t have any superstar actors
or actresses but interestingly enough, Meryl Streep auditioned but was not given a
role in the film. Many things about this film are quite interesting, including the movie
being filmed in an unused airplane hangar and the aliens being played by schoolgirls.
The behind the scenes elements would make you want to believe that this movie
would end up being a disappointment, but this assumption couldn t be more wrong.
The storyline of Close Encounters of the Third Kindfollows the events of a man that
has an encounter with extraterrestrials. The main character, Roy Neary (Richard
Dreyfuss), witnesses a UFO and is left with a burn on his skin and the image of a
Devil s Tower engraved in his memory. Roy builds a model of the mountain in his
home and becomes obsessed with UFOs and this eventually leads his wife to take
their children and leave. A French scientist, Claude Lacombe, and an American
interpreter, David Laughlin, are sent to India to investigate UFO activity where it is
said they were communicating with a five tone musical phrase. The scientists
broadcast this phrase into space and are given a response in the form of coordinates,
and these coordinates just so happen to be the location of Devil s Tower in Wyoming.

Informal Australian Lexicon
The informal Australian lexicon is utilised in everyday casual conversations and is
thus recognisable as a distinct, Australian characteristic. Slang has become
familiarised in the lexicon due to its frequent use in informal communication at an
occurrence where lexemes are recognisable to be unequivocally Australian. This
further strengthens the interweaving of languageand identity. One of the most
recognisable lexemes is the slang term Aussies , the shortened form of Australians ,
which [is] now so widely known that even the Americans will refer to Australian
sportspeople as [such], (Professor Roly Sussex). Whilst the greeting G day, mate has
become the most popular phrase of the archetypal Australian, it transcends its simple
denotation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A big part of the laid back perception of Australians is due to their extensive
application of colloquial terminology, commonly shortenings of original,
commonplace lexemes known as diminutives. Most diminutives in Australia are
created by the shortening of a name or a noun and usually adding a bound suffix of
a, o, ie or y. Nearly one half of Australian diminutives share an ee sound as the last
syllable, which is common in other English variants and languages to express
endearment, intimacy or informality between speakers. Such examples are the
popular barbie , bicky/bickie , and ambo . Notable diminutives are the shortening of
the organisation The Salvation Army into salvo s and McDonald s into macca s .
These slangs have become widespread enough throughout the country that the
organisations themselves have adopted their colloquial names for advertisement. This
displays the how deep the use of diminutives are within Australia, where it has
established itself as an everyday part of communication and lifestyle, becoming
normalized. The popularisation of the evident standard formula in which Australian
slangs are invented has assisted to the relaxed imagery of the public of the country,
creating a standard of the people and the

For instance, Americans from the south have different views and practices than
Americans from the north, east or west. The Smiths are a typical example of this.
They are a blended family Mr. Smith from the South and Mrs. Smith from the
North. They consider themselves American not African Americans just blacks
living in American. This family follows many beliefs and practices of Native
Americans. Like many Americans they believe in gender equality, respect for self

They believe in learning from life s lesson. Education is vital hence all of the

Wouldn t It Be Better for Me to Invest My Money Rather Than Using It to Refinance
My Mortgage?
Investing is all about making money, but so is refinancing your mortgage in a
roundabout way. Smart investors don t put all their eggs in one basket. That s why
refinancing your mortgage is a good idea. If you refinance your mortgage, you will
have more money to invest. And if you are reinvesting for a shorter term, but a
higher monthly payment, then you will be able to pay off your mortgage sooner.
That means once your mortgage is paid off, you can take that money and invest the
entire amount. Additionally, paying on a mortgage doesn t come with any risk like
investing in the stock market does.
Another way to look at it is by comparing how much money you would make if you
had invested your money rather than using it to refinance your mortgage. Then
compare that to what you would save if you had used your money for mortgage
refinancing. Once you have those two numbers, you will also have a clear picture
as to which route is best for you. Of course this is not an exact science, because
there s no way you can predict how much you will make if you invest your money.
However, you can use your best guess based on the current market and hope for the

Savage Wars Of Peace
Max Boot traces the history of America s almost forgotten small wars abroad from
the late 1700 s to the present day in his book Savage Wars of Peace: Small Wars
and the Rise of American Power. He argues that these small wars, also known as
military operations short of war , or low intensity conflicts played an essential role in
the United State s (U.S.) military historyand that these small scale conflicts contain
lessons that the present day military officials should learn from future low intensity
conflicts. Overall, the author was able to support his argument with a few minor
details that could portray the book in a negative light for some readers. The author s

The first strength is the author s quality of telling the military conflicts. It was
fascinating to learn about the details of the little known overseas military
campaigns. The first weakness is including the military men who were part of the
campaigns. While it was interesting to learn about these little known military
heroes, the reader could fail to understand how they fit into the grander stand of the
lessons of small wars. The author never mentions leadership as being part of the
lessons officials can learn from the past wars, thus, the reader fails to understand
the importance the author puts on these heroes in his novel if it does not apply to
the lessons learned from them. The second strength is the evidence he gives to
support the main argument of the author that lessons can be drawn from past wars

clear until the last part of the group when the author actually analyzes the evidence
he gives in the earlier part of the book. One does have to wonder if all the detail he
gives to the reader about the conflict is needed for the author to understand the
lessons that it could impart. However, overall the evidence supports the arguments.
However, many readers may become dissuaded because the author seems to have a
political bias in arguing the case of small wars. The author suggests that becoming

Essay on Igor Stravinsky
IGOR STRAVINSKY
Igor Stravinsky is considered by many the greatest composer of the 20th Century.
Several composers have made breakthroughs and great accomplishments in the past
100 years, but Stravinsky has dominated nearly every trend set. He was born near St.
Petersburg, Russia in Oranienbaum, on June 17, 1882. He was born to a famous
Russian bass opera singer, Fyodor Ignatyevich Stravinsky.
Igor Stravinsky was third of a family of four boys. He grew up hearing his father
practicing his opera and attending local ballets. He also started taking piano lessons
when he was 9 years old and continued on with musical notation and composition
instruction. All throughout his early life he studied music. However, although he had

He was so impressed by Stravinsky s promise as a composer that he invited him to
join his small group of artistic assistants. For the rest of the 1909 season Diaghilev
asked Stravinsky to compose various pieces of ballet music. Then, in 1910, Diaghilev
commissioned Stravinsky to compose his new ballet, The Firebird.
The result of his commission was the first real modern ballet. It set the example of the
composer consulting both with the choreographer and the stage/costuming artist
during the composition.
amp;#9;For the next few years, Stravinsky and Diaghilev worked very closely
together. Diaghilev wanted all of Stravinsky s new works to be produced by his
company. Stravinsky s next two works for the ballet, Petrouchka (1910 11) and
The Rite of Spring (1912 13) are perfectly crafted, powerful pieces, drawing on
Stravinsky s rhythmic and harmonic imagination. The most amazing part is that
Stravinsky had not even reached middle age at the time he composed these pieces.
The Rite of Spring created a violent reaction because no one had ever heard music
that carried this much premature power. It was almost as though there was a sense of
jealousy from his colleagues. The entire musical establishment criticized stravinsky,
but he didn t really seem to care.
amp;#9;During World War I, Stravinsky lived in Switzerland. There he concentrated
on smaller scale chamber pieces, piano works, and songs. One of these, The Soldier s
Tale,
Terrapene Ornata
Ranging from the Rocky Mountains eastward to the Mississippi River, the ornate
box turtle, Terrapene ornata, is the western counterpart of the common box turtle,
a group of species and subspecies known collectively as Terrapene carolina.
Formally described by Swiss American biologist Louis Agassiz (1807 1873) in
1857, T. ornata is native to the Great Plains of the United States as well as northern
Mexico. Nearly a full century later, researchers validated the existence of two
subspecies within T. ornata. The first subspecies, the original ornate box turtle
described by Agassiz in 1857, became T. ornata ornata. American herpetologist H. M.
Smith and a colleague named Ramsey described the second species, T. ornata luteola,

Ethical Dilemmas In The Workplace Essay
Ethical Dilemmas in the Workplace
As a manager, you are the role model for staff. You set the standards, adhere to
guidelines, and exemplify what you expect staff to model. By doing so, you are
establishing and sustaining an organizational culture of ethics and integrity, which is
the backbone of all successful endeavors. However, even the best structured
organizations face ethical dilemmas in the workplace. It is how management
recognizes and addresses these occurrences that will either set them and their team
up for success or for failure. One of the biggest hurtles management can overcome is
to be aware of their surroundings because when management fails to notice and act, it
is an ethical failure (Bazerman Sezer, 2016, para. 5). ... Show more content on

Clark (2017) points out that studies have shown that employees from the baby
boomer generation believe that the younger generations lack good work ethics and are
slackers, thus inhibiting opportunities for collaboration within the team. Management
must be mindfully aware of the potential for conflicts when setting up teams of
diverse ages and delegating responsibilities accordingly to ensure more inclusion and
possibly eliminate conflicts from occurring in the first place (LaMontagne, 2016).
Bullying and other negative behaviors can also cause substantial problems.
Employees can be made to feel inferior to another coworker or even you as the
manager. They may be ridiculed, teased, or withstand having their work continually
criticized, causing them to feel isolated and insignificant (Wilson Nagy, 2017).
According to Wilson and Nagy (2017), employees who are bullied tend to take more
sick leave, may suffer from depression, feel insecure, and can experience long lasting,
negative health effects. To prevent this from occurring, management must
continuously be cognizant of how they communicate internally and externally, as
well as how staff relates with one another. By not doing so, the organization could
lose dedicated, hard working employees, as well as stake holders and clients. In
addition, Clark (2017) suggests that understanding of the relationship between
bullying and personality dynamics enables organizations to integrate these findings
into policies and procedures
Essay An Analysis of The Harlot s House
An Analysis of The Harlot s House
Oscar Wilde s The Harlot s House was written in 1881, towards the latter part of the
Victorian era. This genre is a poem containing 12 stanzas. The point of view in this
piece is from the narrator s perspective early on, the narrative distance moves further
distant in the fourth stanza, zooms in, then out again.
The narrator is walking down a street and pauses, with his companion, beneath the
harlot s house (Wilde, Longman p. 2069: 1.3). In the next two stanzas Wilde
transitions to the inside of the house depicting a partygoers atmosphere in Inside,
above the din and fray (2.1) and shadows of the figures inside are projected onto the
blind (3.3). This movie projector type ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator turns to his love and opines, the dead are dancing with the dead an
insinuation that these are not people, but sinners in their despised condition (9.2 3).
The final three stanzas contain the climax where the narrator s companion is wooed
by the music and chooses to go into the harlot s house Love passed into the house
of Lust (10.3). Another reading would have the narrator s love as the actual harlot
herself. I find that harder to fathom, but rather the story of the narrator s love wooed
by the gaiety and frivolous lifestyle more believable. The narrator s condemnation of
this brothel is in keeping with the ending of the Victorian age, a time ruled by
propriety and prudishness. The companion of the narrator chose the allure of a
wanton, rule free lifestyle though.
This poem typifies Wilde s own life to some degree, in that he enjoyed marriage
and fatherhood but found married life a bore (Longman p. 2067). Wilde is then
said to have become enamoured of a book known as the bible of decadence (p.
2067) and similar to his poem, he then chose to enter the harlot s house, so to speak.
His biographer described his decision to follow decadence as Wilde being summoned
to the underground (p. 2067).
Wilde later fell in love with a young man, Lord Alfred Douglas, who unfortunately
for Wilde, had a father that disapproved of the relationship (p.

Oprah Winfrey Entrepreneur
An entrepreneur is defined as a person who organizes and operates a business or
businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.
Perhaps one of the most successful and admired entrepreneurs to this day is Oprah
Winfrey. From TV shows to movies, magazines, and books, she has managed to
conquer it all and become one of the most well known and powerful people in the
entertainment industry. Oprah had a very difficult childhood, almost from birth,
after her parents decided to separate and leave her in the care of her grandmother.
However, starting life on that isolated farm in Mississippi might have been the best
thing for her. At a very early age, even before she began school, Oprah had started

Oprah created a monthly segment on her show, similar to a book club, where she
would choose a book and viewers could go buy and read it and then have a
discussion about it with her. This innovative idea not only got people inspired to
read and to watch her show, but also made her the most powerful book marketer
and skyrocketed the sales of whichever book they were focusing on for that week.
However, after a very long run, this segment was cut from the show during 2002.
Since then, Oprah has become an Emmy nominated actress, a film producer, and
the founder and subject of O, The Oprah Magazine. So, how has Oprah continued
to succeed and grow while others fizzle and fade away after a few years? In past
interviews, most of her advice for a successful career are based around not
attempting to be successful, but simply finding your passion and what you love to
do. Throughout her years on television, this is what she has done. Oprah originally
had no end game, she was just pursuing what she loved to do and what she was
good at. If situations were different, and certain opportunities had never come
around, she would never be where she is today, but the hard work she put in
everyday allowed her to grow
Biological Processes Through Light Regulation Essay
Photolabile nucleobase protection has been used to achieve exquisite control over
biological processes through light regulation, also referred as photocaging. The
concept was introduced by Engels (Engels and Schlaeger, 1977; Engels and
Reidys, 1978) and independently by Hofmann (Kaplan et al., 1978). Watson Crick
base pairing is blocked by caging groups, completely preventing oligonucleotide
duplex formation. Duplex formation is restored when irradiated by light at a specfic
wavelength. Photolabile groups when introduced at specific locations render the
molecule inactive; however, upon irradiation with light at a particular wavelength,
the molecules can be activated (See detailed review by Shao and Xing, 2010; Tang
et al. 2013; Liu and Deiters, 2014). Caging groups can also be introduced at
phosphate, 2′ OH, and nucleobases (Tang et al., 2013); however, nucleobase
caging has been of particular interest.
Oligonucleotides containing NVOC protecting groups were used as the
photocleavable protecting group at the N3 position of thymidine, and duplex
formation was achieved by photoradiation at 365 nm for 5 h (Iwase et al., 2003).
NPOM caged dT (X) introduced by the Deiters group is of particular interest. Figure
2.1.39 shows the synthesis of NPOM caged thymidine phsophoramidite S.62 (Lusic et

caged thymdine was prepared by standard phosphoramidite chemistry and irradiated

Poets Countee Cullen and Langston Hughes were both imperatives leaders during
the Harlem Renaissance. The Harlem Renaissance took place in the 1920s where
the social, cultural, and political arts greatly expanded in Harlem, New York.
Countee Cullen s poem Incident was produced in ballad form as it covey s emotion
and proves to be written for everyday people. The speaker of his poem appears to be
a young African Americanman as suggested by his use of first person. The speaker
in this poem recalls a memory from his youth while riding the bus. The memory
however is not so pleasant, as it depicts the sorrow that comes along with unjust
racial conflict. This can be seen in the second stanza, Now I was eight and very

The poems speaker is speaking in first person and present tense. What can be noted
is that the poems speaker represents African Americans from the Jim Crow era or
back when slaves were owned in general. Hughes makes it seem as if it s a whole
community talking through one individual. As far as time periods the poems
setting could be perceived as during the early 20th century Jim Crow laws. On the
other hand, we see that slave is placed in a house and in the house told to go to the
kitchen. Therefore, it can be assumed that this house is extremely big and own by
a white family who more than likely have more slaves working for them and the
kitchen includes a dining hall for the family and their guests not including the slave
who is most likely the servant. This can be seen in the second stanza where it states,
I am the darker brother/They send me to eat in the kitchen/When company comes,
/But I laugh, /And eat well, /And grow strong. The title of this poem seems to be
repeated and uses for the first line of the entire poem and gives off a patriotic vibe
that is expressed throughout the
The Movie American History X
Recently I watched the movie American History X. Its major subjects are gang
violence and racism, that has been passed on from generation to generation. It also
asked questions like, what were their racist ideas really based on, how did racism
effect the community, can racism be reshaped by actual experiences, and how or why
racismto begin with? Racism has been the main topic in the judicial system, police
affairs, and racially divided communities for years but it s neither disappearing nor
growing to this today.
In this movie the main character was a man named Derek. After the death of his
father, due to gang violence, he became a racist to all others but white people. He
blamed the lack of jobs and poor wages on the blacks and immigrants. In an
interview he had after the death of his father he stated that, it s all the blacks fault
for all the violence in their neighborhood. He also said that, they brought all the
diseases like AIDS and it s their problem and why did they have to bring it to the
white people. Before he vandalized a store, owned by a Chinese man, with his
other racist friends he told them why they were doing this. He told them that these
immigrates come here an instead of looking for the American dream they come
and take advantage of it and by firing those who worked there before and hiring
Mexicans and blacks, that are willing to work at a low wage, they make more
money. So he and his friends need to show them that they indeed don t belong here

Hence, as per the decision, the decision for eliminating is correct but doing nothing

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Expansive Additives
Hydration and expansion mechanisms of expansive additives
Abstract
Concrete is the most frequency used material in construction industry. However,
during its service life, concrete experiences volume changes especially the shrinkage
which can lead to cracking and failure of the material. To overcome the cracking
problem, expansive additives are widely used to reduce the shrinkage of concrete. In
this review, the general background and definition of expansive additives, types of
expansive additives, synthesis process, hydration schemes and some feasible
expansion mechanisms of the expansive additives are described.
1. Introduction
In the hydration reaction of Portland cement, the absolute volume of hydration
products formed is less than the total volume of the reacted cement and water. This
volume reduction is called the chemical shrinkage. After setting of the cement paste,
microstructure of the paste is developed as a result that the paste is not able to
change its bulk volume freely; therefore, only a fraction of total chemical shrinkage
results in a decrease of its external volume which is known as autogenous shrinkage.
While, the rest of total shrinkage presents as an increase of the internal porosity [1].
Another kind of bulk shrinkage of cement is called drying shrinkage. Drying ... Show

the short term memory of a person more than their long term memory. Your long term

Double-Strand Breaks In Biomedical Research
The past decade has brought rapid and significant innovations in genome editing
techniques. For the first time researchers have the opportunity to manipulate
essentially any gene in a plethora of cells and organisms, using targeted nucleases
that were designed for sequence specific binding of the DNA.
One of the first breakthrough methods of gene targeting was the usage of chimeric
proteins called zinc fingers nucleases (ZFN) to create double strand breaks. Still, the
real revolution was the introduction of CRISPR and CRISPR associated (Cas)
systems into the biomedical research arena.

One of them is a reported high incidence of nonspecific DNA cleavage; while this
has cooled some of the initial enthusiasm about this method, a potential remedy is the
expression of two CRISPR modules with nickase activity against two genomic sites
that are closely adjacent to one another.
Then there is a problem of mosaicism, where mutant allele is produced in only some
of the cells, as nucleases may not inevitably cut the DNA during one stage of
embryonic development. The production of multiple mutations in one organism is
also possible, which can create phenotyping bottlenecks in mouse models.
Regardless of those burning problems, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing technique

the road ahead of us will certainly be a thrilling
Energy As An Source Of Energy For Electricity Essay
What is the idea Solar Energy as an alternate source of energy for electricity. Why
is this important idea There are many reasons why l think the installation of solar
power should be considered as an alternating source of power in our homes: 1.We
must be concerned about the environmental effect and reliance on fossil fuels
(Since United State has 67% of its source of power from fossil fuels). 2.We should
improve the value of our property by investing in solar panels. 3.We would like to
be less dependent on big business supplying our energy needs. To whom is it
important especially industries, people living mostly in the rural and urban areas get
affected by shortage of electricity The installation of the solar panels is not difficult
to develop. Solar electricity, is generated when electrons are freed by the interaction
of sunlight with the semiconductor materials in the solar photovoltaic (PV) panels,
and are then captured in an electronic current. This DC current is then carried
through an inverter that converts the current into 120C AC power (which is the
current used by American appliances. The current conversion will be different in
other countries). The AC power then travels via a disconnect switch (for safety) to
your fuse box and your appliances or into the main electricity grid if your panels are
producing more electricity than you are using at the time. A solar power system
consists of panels, an inverter, a disconnect switch, wiring, and an
The Road Use Internal Combustion Engines
Introduction Currently, most vehicles on the road use internal combustion engines
(ICEs). This type of engine has existed from as early as the 19th century, when
Nikolaus Otto created the first 4 stroke cycle (Otto cycle) system, which is still used
in cars to this day. As of 2010, the vehicular population surpassed 1 billion (according
to the research by Ward s Auto [1]), meaning the IC engine is extremely widespread
throughout the world. However, this does not mean that an IC engine is the most
effective way of producing power for vehicles nowadays. They have many problems,
which include but are not limited to increased fuel consumption and high CO2
emissions. There have been many attempts to improve the IC engine, including the...

For each cylinder, there is a piston attached to a crankshaft, allowing it to move up
and down (i.e. complete a stroke), an intake manifold housing the intake valve,
connected to the combustion chamber and exhaust valve. The intake valve opens,
and air is taken into the combustion chamber, as the piston is pulled towards the
crankshaft (Intake Stroke). Then the valves are closed, and the piston is extended,
pressurising a combination of air and fuel in the compression chamber, causing
combustion (Compression Stroke). This instantaneous combustion causes the
pressure in the combustion chamber to increase and act on the face of the piston,
causing it to be pushed back towards the crankshaft (Power Stroke). After this, the
exhaust valve is opened, and the gas escapes (Exhaust Stroke). Idling However,
every time one cycle is completed, some fuel is used to create the spark during the
power stroke. This means that when the car is idling (i.e. the engine is on, but the
car is stationary), a lot of fuel and energy is wasted. This will not only negatively
affect fuel consumption, but also increase the CO2 emissions, which are already
quite high. As stated by the U.S. Department of Energy, around 27 million tonnes
(30 million tons) of CO2 is produced in the US alone [3], just due to idling vehicles.

Abstract Attitudinal variances were studied in intuitive processing, in the framework
of an optical search assignment. Aims: The aim of the study was to recapitulate
outcomes of recent epidemiological research on adolescent alcohol use and its
consequences, to summarize the risk factors for drinking in adolescents and to reflect
operative preventative interferences. Methods: A literature review of pertinent studies
on adolescent alcohol use. Alcohol use and other risk taking behaviors develop in
adolescence and incline to cluster together. Alcohol consumption in adolescence
appears to persevere into adulthood and is allied with alcohol problems, including
dependence, premature death and diminished work capacity. Early documentation of
adolescent risk factors may be helpful in preventing and/or diminishing risk.
Attitudinal differences are to be altered by these consequences. Conclusion: There is
a need for loftier long standing imminent group revisions to investigate the long term
magnitudes of adolescent drinking and supplementary effort is needed to identify the
most operative interference tactics. Introduction The term adolescent is an adjective
concerning a young person in the process of developing from a child into an adult
and dates from the late 18th century ( Adolescent, 1989). It is a resultant from the
Latin verb adolescere which means to grow up ( Adolescent, 1989). This research
will analyze outlines of drinking in
The Battle Of Nazi Dictator Adolf Hitler Essay
On February 27 of 2014, masked Russian troops without insignia infiltrated in south
Ukraine and captured strategic sites across Crimea, a rugged peninsula that
strategically juts in the Black Sea. Within a few days Crimea was under Russian
control and by July 2015 Crimea was formally integrated into Russia. The whole
episode drew international consternation against Russia, which resulted in successive
rounds of economic sanctions. A few days after the annexation, Ms. Clinton likened
the move to the actions of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler(Rucker, 2014), a sentiment that
was quickly adopted by the media; for example, on March 2, 2014 Bloomberg
published an article entitled, In Ukraine, Echoes of the Anschluss (Bershidsky,
2014) and a few days later, on March 7, 2014, BBC published an article entitled,
Crimea seen as Hitler style land grab (Kralova, 2014). This is a very grave accusation
and, given that the USA and Russia collectively hold 90% of all nuclear weapons,
prudence is in order.
Therefore, in this essay I purpose to assess the validity of the claim by using the
Ladder of Inference, a reasoning method likened to a ladder as it is a step by step
process that helps us draw better conclusions from true facts and reality. (Mind
Tools). We can use this method in any of three ways; reflection (becoming aware of
our own thinking), advocacy (making our thinking visible to others), and inquiry
(inquiry into other s thinking). (Ross, n.d.) For this essay, I ll depend on
Freeze Frames In Goodfellas And Casino
a single frame forming a motionless image from a film or videotape. Freeze frames.
In both GoodFellas and Casino, and he even uses the technique in one of latest
films, The Wolf of Wall Street. Scorsese generally uses this technique to show the
emotions of the the character; so that the viewer can get a better understanding of
what s going on and they can see what the character might have been thinking at the
time; freeze frames in Scorsese films usually have a voice over by the character
giving the viewer a bit more about what was going on. In GoodFellas he also uses
freeze frames directly after flash bulbs for the effect that there are pictures being
taken, giving a photoshoot feeling to the scene. A well known scene in Goodfellas
where Scorsese uses flash bulbs followed by freeze frames would be after Henry
Hill marries his new wife Karen and the Rabbi stands on the glass, Scorsese uses
this to give off the feeling that photos are being captured as the screen freezes for
short moments at a time.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that passed this point in his life, he has completed accepted violence in
his life and as the film goes on we see he grows into a violent lifestyle. Another film
Scorsese uses freeze frames in is The Wolf of Wall Street; right at the beginning of
the film we see a freeze frame on the main character Jordan Belfort set somewhere in
the middle of the film so he can have some time to introduce himself before shortly
after cutting to other clips of his life before starting the
The Canadian Corps and CEF
The Confederation took place in 1867, and the Canadian Expeditionary Force(CEF)
was raised in 1914. The CEF is what protects what the Confederation created, and
would not the nation s greatest achievement be protecting that which the nation
created. Canada did not enter the war of its own accord but was automatically at war
when Britain declared war against Germany. Canada entered the war to stand by its
mother country, to protect the country who founded it. The Canadian Corpsand CEF
were created to defend Canada, and fought not only in the war but for the recognition
that Canada deserved, to then show that in the Great War we achieved something
great, and finally to piece together to how Canada is now, to build through the years
and show that this was truly Canada s greatest achievement.
The Canadian Corps and CEF were formed to protect Canada in times of war. The
Canadian Corps was formed as an operational force in France and Flander s Field
in 1914. Collectively every troop that were deployed were referred to as the
Canadian Corps. The Canadian Corps was sent out in 3 divisions, the first sent to
England in 1914 and trained on the Salisbury Plain and then crossed over to
France to join the war. The second division was formed in 1915 and immediately
sent over to France. The third was a fully manned and equipped combat division
disbanded at the end of the First World War. These divisions were each sent out as a
small operational force that defended Canada. However

Performance Management Essay. . Essay on management sample

  • 1. Performance Management Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of "Performance Management" presents its own set of challenges, requiring a nuanced understanding of various concepts within the realm of organizational behavior and human resource management. One must delve into the intricacies of performance appraisal, employee development, and the establishment of effective feedback mechanisms. The complexity of the topic demands a comprehensive exploration of both theoretical frameworks and practical applications. To begin with, researching and gathering relevant literature is a formidable task. The field of performance management is dynamic, and staying abreast of the latest theories, models, and industry best practices is essential. Navigating through academic journals, authoritative books, and credible online sources can be time-consuming but is crucial for constructing a well- informed and academically sound essay. Once the research is complete, synthesizing the information into a coherent and logical structure is the next hurdle. Developing a thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of performance management and serves as a guiding thread throughout the essay requires careful consideration. Creating an outline that organizes the content into introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion is vital to ensuring a seamless flow of ideas. Moreover, addressing the multifaceted nature of performance management necessitates a balanced exploration of its various components. This includes delving into the significance of goal-setting, the role of feedback in performance improvement, and the challenges associated with appraising employee performance. Balancing depth and breadth while maintaining relevance to the chosen essay focus can be a delicate task. The writing process itself requires a command of language and a skillful ability to articulate complex concepts. Striking the right balance between academic rigor and accessibility for a diverse readership is essential. Ensuring clarity and coherence in conveying ideas is paramount, as the essay should engage the reader while conveying a deep understanding of the subject matter. Lastly, the task of revising and editing cannot be overlooked. Careful proofreading is necessary to eliminate grammatical errors, enhance clarity, and refine the overall quality of the essay. This iterative process may involve multiple revisions to fine-tune arguments, improve sentence structures, and ensure that the essay meets the standards of academic excellence. In conclusion, tackling the intricacies of a "Performance Management Essay" demands a combination of extensive research, thoughtful organization, clear articulation, and meticulous revision. It is a process that requires dedication, time, and a commitment to excellence. • 2. My Lost Vacation One of the best vacations I have been on is when I went to Las Vegas, Nevada, becuase it s one out of the two vacations I ve ever been on. I went on this trip with my mom and my dad. This was the first time my parents and I have been to Vegas. One of the main reasons we went to Vegas was for the Motocross Championships. We left early in the morning at 5:00 am to make out flight in Cedar Rapids. We flew to Denver, Colorado and then flew from Denver to Las Vegasarriving sometime in the middle of the day. When we got to Las Vegas we went to get a car rental. We met this cool guy that we rented the car from because he gave us a good deal by giving us a mid size car rental but only charging us for a compact size car. After we got our car rental we went to go eat at the Mexican restaurant. This Mexican restaurant looked like this old beat down little building but was a bomb restaurant. This Mexican restaurant was one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. It was amazingly delicious. To make sure that the width of all the samples was represented, the boat moved side to side of the entire channel of as samples of the water surface were collected. To get samples that are representative of the depth, the geologists sampled the upper 0.2 to 2.5m of the riverusing a three meter long tube with a diameter of five centimeters. The shores of the SpringCreek were also sampled in order to determine if there was any deposition of heavy metals along the shores (Alpers, Taylor, Domagalski, 2000). The EPA used data that was collected from the SCDD by the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) In the 1960s, the USBR dammed Spring Creek with the SCDD to prevent heavy metals from dispersing throughout the Spring Creek water system. Racquetball proves to be great exercise, but can also be a great learning experience. My time throughout the class has been a wonderful learning experience. After completing the racquetball course I will have learned plenty in which I can apply to my futurelife. Before my enrollment in racquetball I had little to no knowledge of the sport. If someone had asked me to describe the sport as a whole I would not have been able to adequately do so. Having no knowledge of the rules, terminology, or tactics behind the game, one could conclude that I knew next to nothing about racquetball. During the length of the course I spent much of my time on the court learning, improving, and developing an understanding of the activity. I have developed an appreciation for the game and those who play it. Racquetball itself proves to be much more complex than what I had originally though. Cleary simply hitting the ball does not prove to be an proficient play style as I had once assumed. This will no doubt defer me from making assumptions about other sports in the future. This was a worthwhile learning experience as a whole, and developing an appreciation for the game is not the only thing I will take away from this class. Alongside debunking any misconceptions I once had, racquetball also reinforced the importance of diet in the everyday lifestyle. Aside from the countless things learned on the court, I

Effective communication helps connect with people. It can open many doors for many jobs. It lets the employer know whom they have hired, and how intelligent the person really is. In the business profession, effective communicationenables managers to give understandable instructions to their employees. Effective communication will help state what is expected from workers. I believe effective communication can be used in all aspects of the workplace. First, Susan Adams from Forbes wrote Good grammar is important in life. Using correct grammar in the workplace shows the intelligence of the worker. It also shows how well thoughts are put together before speaking. Using good grammar can also show employers that an employee can accomplish other tasks on the job no matter what it is. For example the employee can be asked to give a formal speech because the employer trusts that the employee will use the right language when talking. Good grammar also shows the company that the employee cares about his personal image, the company image, and that s what makes the company stand out from other companies. Good grammar shows who the person is, for example what type of establishment have they grown up around. It also shows what type of people the company hires (Adams). This paper also looks at how the deficit is created and dealt with, along with what happens to different areas of the economy when the deficit s size changes. Lastly this paper covers who owns the national debt, how these people are paid off, and the interest rate of the debt. Federal Budget Deficit with a sprinkle if National Debt (1, 2, 3) The federal budget deficit and the national debt are two different things, but are connected in a parasitic way. The federal budget deficit is when the government spends more than in receives; it is also a flow value, meaning that the amount of the deficit is something that occurs over time (Miller, 2014). The deficit for the past 15 years is shown in Appendix A, and the deficit is the host, not the parasite. The national debt however is the parasite, and it is known as the total value of all federal government deficits minus the amount that the government has repaid. The debt is also a stock value, or something measured at an exact point in time, and its last 15 years appears in Appendix B (Miller, 2014). The reason why the deficit and debt are in a parasitic relationship is because the budget deficit can exist without the debt, like a host does not need a parasite, but the debt cannot live without the deficit. The federal budget deficit comes into existence when the government spends more than it earns

However, even the best structured organizations face ethical dilemmas in the workplace. It is how management recognizes and addresses these occurrences that will either set them and their team up for success or for failure. One of the biggest hurtles management can overcome is to be aware of their surroundings because when management fails to notice and act, it is an ethical failure (Bazerman Sezer, 2016, para. 5). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clark (2017) points out that studies have shown that employees from the baby boomer generation believe that the younger generations lack good work ethics and are slackers, thus inhibiting opportunities for collaboration within the team. Management must be mindfully aware of the potential for conflicts when setting up teams of diverse ages and delegating responsibilities accordingly to ensure more inclusion and possibly eliminate conflicts from occurring in the first place (LaMontagne, 2016). Bullying and other negative behaviors can also cause substantial problems. Employees can be made to feel inferior to another coworker or even you as the manager. They may be ridiculed, teased, or withstand having their work continually criticized, causing them to feel isolated and insignificant (Wilson Nagy, 2017). According to Wilson and Nagy (2017), employees who are bullied tend to take more sick leave, may suffer from depression, feel insecure, and can experience long lasting, negative health effects. To prevent this from occurring, management must continuously be cognizant of how they communicate internally and externally, as well as how staff relates with one another. By not doing so, the organization could lose dedicated, hard working employees, as well as stake holders and clients. In addition, Clark (2017) suggests that understanding of the relationship between bullying and personality dynamics enables organizations to integrate these findings into policies and procedures
  • 24. Essay An Analysis of The Harlot s House An Analysis of The Harlot s House Oscar Wilde s The Harlot s House was written in 1881, towards the latter part of the Victorian era. This genre is a poem containing 12 stanzas. The point of view in this piece is from the narrator s perspective early on, the narrative distance moves further distant in the fourth stanza, zooms in, then out again. The narrator is walking down a street and pauses, with his companion, beneath the harlot s house (Wilde, Longman p. 2069: 1.3). In the next two stanzas Wilde transitions to the inside of the house depicting a partygoers atmosphere in Inside, above the din and fray (2.1) and shadows of the figures inside are projected onto the blind (3.3). The narrator turns to his love and opines, the dead are dancing with the dead an insinuation that these are not people, but sinners in their despised condition (9.2 3). The final three stanzas contain the climax where the narrator s companion is wooed by the music and chooses to go into the harlot s house Love passed into the house of Lust (10.3). Another reading would have the narrator s love as the actual harlot herself. I find that harder to fathom, but rather the story of the narrator s love wooed by the gaiety and frivolous lifestyle more believable. The narrator s condemnation of this brothel is in keeping with the ending of the Victorian age, a time ruled by propriety and prudishness. The companion of the narrator chose the allure of a wanton, rule free lifestyle though. This poem typifies Wilde s own life to some degree, in that he enjoyed marriage and fatherhood but found married life a bore (Longman p. 2067). Wilde is then said to have become enamoured of a book known as the bible of decadence (p. 2067) and similar to his poem, he then chose to enter the harlot s house, so to speak. His biographer described his decision to follow decadence as Wilde being summoned to the underground (p. 2067). Wilde later fell in love with a young man, Lord Alfred Douglas, who unfortunately for Wilde, had a father that disapproved of the relationship (p.

Perhaps one of the most successful and admired entrepreneurs to this day is Oprah Winfrey. Oprah had a very difficult childhood, almost from birth, after her parents decided to separate and leave her in the care of her grandmother. However, after a very long run, this segment was cut from the show during 2002. Since then, Oprah has become an Emmy nominated actress, a film producer, and the founder and subject of O, The Oprah Magazine. So, how has Oprah continued to succeed and grow while others fizzle and fade away after a few years? In past interviews, most of her advice for a successful career are based around not attempting to be successful, but simply finding your passion and what you love to do. Throughout her years on television, this is what she has done. Oprah originally had no end game, she was just pursuing what she loved to do and what she was good at. If situations were different, and certain opportunities had never come around, she would never be where she is today, but the hard work she put in everyday allowed her to grow
  • 27. Biological Processes Through Light Regulation Essay Photolabile nucleobase protection has been used to achieve exquisite control over biological processes through light regulation, also referred as photocaging. The concept was introduced by Engels (Engels and Schlaeger, 1977; Engels and Reidys, 1978) and independently by Hofmann (Kaplan et al., 1978). Watson Crick base pairing is blocked by caging groups, completely preventing oligonucleotide duplex formation. Duplex formation is restored when irradiated by light at a specfic wavelength. Photolabile groups when introduced at specific locations render the molecule inactive; however, upon irradiation with light at a particular wavelength, the molecules can be activated (See detailed review by Shao and Xing, 2010; Tang et al. 2013; Liu and Deiters, 2014). Caging groups can also be introduced at phosphate, 2′ OH, and nucleobases (Tang et al., 2013); however, nucleobase caging has been of particular interest. Oligonucleotides containing NVOC protecting groups were used as the photocleavable protecting group at the N3 position of thymidine, and duplex formation was achieved by photoradiation at 365 nm for 5 h (Iwase et al., 2003). NPOM caged dT (X) introduced by the Deiters group is of particular interest. Figure 2.1.39 shows the synthesis of NPOM caged thymidine phsophoramidite S.62 (Lusic et al. 2007) from nucleoside S.63 using reagent S.64, and DNA incorporating NPOM caged thymdine was prepared by standard phosphoramidite chemistry and irradiated at 365 nm to afford active

It also asked questions like, what were their racist ideas really based on, how did racism effect the community, can racism be reshaped by actual experiences, and how or why racismto begin with? Racism has been the main topic in the judicial system, police affairs, and racially divided communities for years but it s neither disappearing nor growing to this today. In this movie the main character was a man named Derek. After the death of his father, due to gang violence, he became a racist to all others but white people. He blamed the lack of jobs and poor wages on the blacks and immigrants. In an interview he had after the death of his father he stated that, it s all the blacks fault for all the violence in their neighborhood. Before he vandalized a store, owned by a Chinese man, with his other racist friends he told them why they were doing this. However, during its service life, concrete experiences volume changes especially the shrinkage which can lead to cracking and failure of the material. To overcome the cracking problem, expansive additives are widely used to reduce the shrinkage of concrete. In this review, the general background and definition of expansive additives, types of expansive additives, synthesis process, hydration schemes and some feasible expansion mechanisms of the expansive additives are described. 1. Introduction In the hydration reaction of Portland cement, the absolute volume of hydration products formed is less than the total volume of the reacted cement and water. This volume reduction is called the chemical shrinkage. After setting of the cement paste, microstructure of the paste is developed as a result that the paste is not able to change its bulk volume freely; therefore, only a fraction of total chemical shrinkage results in a decrease of its external volume which is known as autogenous shrinkage. While, the rest of total shrinkage presents as an increase of the internal porosity [1]. Another kind of bulk shrinkage of cement is called drying shrinkage. Drying ... • 37. Energy As An Source Of Energy For Electricity Essay What is the idea Solar Energy as an alternate source of energy for electricity. Why is this important idea There are many reasons why l think the installation of solar power should be considered as an alternating source of power in our homes: 1.We must be concerned about the environmental effect and reliance on fossil fuels (Since United State has 67% of its source of power from fossil fuels). 2.We should improve the value of our property by investing in solar panels. 3.We would like to be less dependent on big business supplying our energy needs. To whom is it important especially industries, people living mostly in the rural and urban areas get affected by shortage of electricity The installation of the solar panels is not difficult to develop. Solar electricity, is generated when electrons are freed by the interaction of sunlight with the semiconductor materials in the solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, and are then captured in an electronic current. This DC current is then carried through an inverter that converts the current into 120C AC power (which is the current used by American appliances. The current conversion will be different in other countries). The AC power then travels via a disconnect switch (for safety) to your fuse box and your appliances or into the main electricity grid if your panels are producing more electricity than you are using at the time. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For each cylinder, there is a piston attached to a crankshaft, allowing it to move up and down (i.e. complete a stroke), an intake manifold housing the intake valve, connected to the combustion chamber and exhaust valve. The intake valve opens, and air is taken into the combustion chamber, as the piston is pulled towards the crankshaft (Intake Stroke). Then the valves are closed, and the piston is extended, pressurising a combination of air and fuel in the compression chamber, causing combustion (Compression Stroke). This instantaneous combustion causes the pressure in the combustion chamber to increase and act on the face of the piston, causing it to be pushed back towards the crankshaft (Power Stroke). After this, the exhaust valve is opened, and the gas escapes (Exhaust Stroke). Idling However, every time one cycle is completed, some fuel is used to create the spark during the power stroke. This means that when the car is idling (i.e. the engine is on, but the car is stationary), a lot of fuel and energy is wasted. This will not only negatively affect fuel consumption, but also increase the CO2 emissions, which are already quite high. As stated by the U.S. Department of Energy, around 27 million tonnes (30 million tons) of CO2 is produced in the US alone [3], just due to idling vehicles. Personal vehicles also waste approximately 3 million tonnes of fuel annually, just

Aims: The aim of the study was to recapitulate outcomes of recent epidemiological research on adolescent alcohol use and its consequences, to summarize the risk factors for drinking in adolescents and to reflect operative preventative interferences. Methods: A literature review of pertinent studies on adolescent alcohol use. Alcohol use and other risk taking behaviors develop in adolescence and incline to cluster together. Alcohol consumption in adolescence appears to persevere into adulthood and is allied with alcohol problems, including dependence, premature death and diminished work capacity. Early documentation of adolescent risk factors may be helpful in preventing and/or diminishing risk. Attitudinal differences are to be altered by these consequences. Conclusion: There is a need for loftier long standing imminent group revisions to investigate the long term magnitudes of adolescent drinking and supplementary effort is needed to identify the most operative interference tactics. Introduction The term adolescent is an adjective concerning a young person in the process of developing from a child into an adult and dates from the late 18th century ( Adolescent, 1989). It is a resultant from the Latin verb adolescere which means to grow up ( Adolescent, 1989). This research will analyze outlines of drinking in

Within a few days Crimea was under Russian control and by July 2015 Crimea was formally integrated into Russia. The whole episode drew international consternation against Russia, which resulted in successive rounds of economic sanctions. A few days after the annexation, Ms. Clinton likened the move to the actions of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler(Rucker, 2014), a sentiment that was quickly adopted by the media; for example, on March 2, 2014 Bloomberg published an article entitled, In Ukraine, Echoes of the Anschluss (Bershidsky, 2014) and a few days later, on March 7, 2014, BBC published an article entitled, Crimea seen as Hitler style land grab (Kralova, 2014).
