The Benefits Of Marijuana Laws
Federal taxes for marijuana farmers have increased drastically over the years. In Oregon there
are restrictions of how much marijuana dispensaries and people can have. Marijuana laws in
Colorado allow the purchase of marijuana to those 21 and over only. I feel bad for the
marijuana growers because many growers started their businesses with their own money. Little
insurance is also provided to these growers because of how it is considered illegal under federal
law. The time it takes to start these businesses are intense because of permits, water forms, and
licenses needed. I also feel bad for these growers because of how their crops can be damaged not
only by flames but the smoke and ask in the air which can change flavor and cost of marijuana

advertising agency say the mean is more than 9 per month? SOLUTION

The forms of academic rule that typical exist in higher education nationally are below:
Under the heading of Discipline Rooted Authority were the following: Personal ruler ship
(professional), collegial ruler ship (professional), Guild Authority, and Professional Authority.
Under the heading of Enterprise Based Authority were the following: Trustee Authority
(institutional), and Bureaucratic Authority (institutional). Under the heading of System Based
Authority were the following: Bureaucratic Authority (governmental), Political Authority, and

Higher education managers should spend more time focusing on the significance of the system s
parts. Managers must not leave out unpleasant interactions that can transpire between the different
system parts (Birnbaum, 1988). For example, employees can have a tremendous amount of skill but
if they are ineffective at managing relationships with their fellow employees then there may be an
increased potential for conflict. This can create obstacle that can make it very difficult to work
together cohesively.
Strategic Planning
The composition of many different departmental strategies makes up the single organization wide
strategic plan. Top higher education administrators are responsible for the overall strategic plan but
the deans and managers are responsible for creating solid departmental strategies that are crucial to
the strategic plan and implementation effort. Higher education institutions are beginning to adopt
the successful practices that are used by profit based businesses. Following are five strategy making
and implementation process tasks that managers are responsible for:
1.Forming a strategic vision that forecasts the institutions future appearance and also its direction.
2.Making Objectives.
3.Creating a strategy to achieve certain outcomes.
4.Effectively carry out the selected strategy.

Write An Essay On The Effects Of Shooting A Basketball
Basketball is a widely known game around the world. Played by both men and women it is one
of the more popular sports around. Made in December of 1891 by Dr. James Naismith it is still
being played today. Although basketball looks like a lot of running, dribbling, and shooting you ll
learn that there is a lot more things that go into it. The art of shooting a basketballis a whole lot more
than just aiming at the goal and flicking your wrist. You have to be able to have the right arc and
trajectory to be able to get the ball through the hoop. Not only do those things go into a jump
shot, but also spin is very important in shooting a shot. For instance, if you have the right speed
and direction of spin on the ball than if you miss your shot, the way the ball spins off the rim or
backboard may result in you hitting a lucky shot. The effects of air resistance of the ball are so
small because of small velocities, so spin of a shot in air is not useful. What spin is useful for is
for a better chance of the ball going in if the ball hits the rim (Kentridge). If you have the right
amount of spin, trajectory, and arc on the ball than the better chance you have of getting the
perfect swish. The backspin, after contact with the back rim or board, will result in a change in
velocity opposite to the spin direction, changing an equal angle rebound into a velocity more
toward the net (Willis). Backspin is very crucial in shooting a ball. If you do not have rotation on
your ball then more than likely you will miss most of the shots you take. They will just bounce off
of the rim or backboard without having a chance of bouncing in. With the spin on a shot, some of...

Abstract
Three new hydrazone ligands, H2L1, H2L2 and H4L3, were prepared by condensation of 4,6 bis(1
hydrazonoethyl)benzene 1,3 diol with furan 2 carboxaldehyde, thiophene 2 carboxaldehyde and 1H
pyrrole 2 carboxaldehyde, respectively. The ligands reacted with copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II),
zinc(II), cadmium(II) and dioxouranium(VI) ions, to yield binuclear complexes formulated as
[(L)M2(OAc)2(H2O)n(EtOH)m]xH2OyEtOH where L = L1 or L2; M = Cu, Ni, Co, Zn or Cd; n =
nil, 1 or 4; m, x and y = nil or 1, [(H2L2)Cd2(OAc)4(H2O)2]EtOH,
[(L)(UO2)2(OAc)2(H2O)2Y2]nH2O where L = L1 or L2; Y = nil or H2O; n = 2.5 or 7,
[(L3)M2(H2O)6]nH2O where M = Cu or Zn; n = 1 or 6, [(L3)(UO2)2(H2O)4]2.5H2O and
dimeric complexes; [(L1)2Ni2]3H2O and [(H2L3)2M2]nH2O where M = Ni or Co; n = 1.5 or 3.
The ligands and their metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H and 13C
NMR, electronic, ESR and mass spectra, conductivity, magnetic susceptibility measurements and
powder XRD as well as thermal analyses. The coordinating sites are phenolic oxygens, azomethine

Louise Bourgeois Cell XXV Analysis
Cell XXV (The View of the World of the Jealous Wife) By Louise Bourgeois.
An example of a work of art that I believe exemplifies the best of contemporary practice is Cell
XXV (The View of the World of the Jealous wife), a sculpture by artist Louise Bourgeois (1911
2010).
The sculpture was made in 2001 by the artist as part of her Cell series. The sculpture itself
features three figures, each of them headless, armless and legless and each of them female. The
three figures are encased in a prison cell, or birdcage like structure. On the floor are two large
white marble spheres. Hanging between these two is a mannequin wearing a white dress, on one
side, hanging slightly higher, another torso with just a neck and bust, wears flowery fabric, ... Show

Much of Bourgeois work revolved around her own personal feelings towards her childhood and
the ongoing affair that her father had with her childhood nanny and it would not be difficult to
see how this piece could represent the anger felt by the wife her mother towards both her fathers
mistress (the figure in white in the centre perhaps) and towards him, being represented by the
implied phallus constructed by the spheres and the white figure. The white figure and spheres
can also be looked at as a simultaneous depiction of both the father and his mistress with the
Jealous Wife and perhaps the artist herself depicted as the short torso, looking upon them both
with hatred. The clothing worn by the figures seems to be of importance too. The figure in the
middle wears white, as does the short torso, a colour typically used symbolically in clothing to
depict innocence and purity as with wedding dresses and communion dresses etc, and yet here it
seems to have been used with irony, perhaps the artist laughing at the thought of the people
depicted in this sculpture being deemed innocent. The figure in the blue dress stands out in
comparison and is black in colour as well to contrast further the all white of it s companions.
This figure is clearly an outsider, a disapproving observer of what it is witnessing. Despite its
separation from the other figures in the sculpture however, all three are enclosed together in this
cell and closed off from the rest of the world. They remain frighteningly still and trapped. Perhaps
this is a comment on how isolated Bourgeois felt from the rest of the world in her youth. Perhaps
it is a comment by the artist on how she felt her fathers affair took over her whole

Caesar, Hannibal, and Alexander the Great Essay
It was the leadership of Caesar, Alexander, and Hannibal that heavily influenced the Roman society,
the ancient world, and the western civilization. Ambition drove Alexander the Great to conquer the
unconquered, propelled Caesar to the top of the political spectrum with no birthright, and helped
Hannibal defeat a dominent society in the ancient world. It was Julius Caesars successful military
tactics, his drive to the top of the political society, and his succession without the right, privilege,
and possession to which a person is entitled to by birth. Alexander, and Hannibal proved to be
superior leaders, and military geniuses, but above all Julius Caesar was the greater of the three.
Great military intellectuals pursed forward in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He seized a shield from a soldier in the rear ranks, pushed his way to the front, called upon
centurions by name, then sounded the charge. The mere gesture revived his men and made them
surge forward. At the end of the day, The Nervii were hacked to pieces.[3]
Caesar s compassion and intelligence shined through. This exposed that Julius Caesar cared for his
troops, by taking the time and effort to support his men by assisting them in a battle, and an effort
to remember centurions names to move them onward. The intelligence of these great military
leaders impacted and determined there success, but Julius Caesar s presence on the battle field not
only struck fear in the enemy but instilled so high a moral boost that victory could be snatched out
of the jaws of defeat.
Ambition is a driving factor, that impels a being to be successful, conquer the unconquered, and
achieve never ending glory. Alexander s ambition drove him to achieve a past generations goal,
Alexander now took on a project the Philip had planned but never carried out: an invasion of Persia
[4] Alexander was ambitious to implement this task that was not attained by his deceased father.
Undeniably after subduing Greece, dominating Indian territories at the Hydespas River, and pursing
through Persia, Alexander still wanted to push onward. Hannibal on the other hand, was driven to

Shortfalls Of Critical Thinking Analysis
Victor Davis Hanson s op ed piece about the dangers of defense cuts demonstrates shortfalls in
two critical thinking areas. These areas are POINT OF VIEW and EVALUATION OF
INFORMATION, as described by Dr. Gerras paper on critical thinking. Strategic leaders familiar
with the Dr. Gerras Critical Thinking Model are able to use it to analyze Mr. Hanson s article. It
is imperative that strategic leaders become critical thinkers. They can use Dr. Gerras model to
identify the various critical thinking shortfalls. There are multiple instances of POINT OF VIEW
and EVALUATION OF INFORMATION critical thinking shortfalls intertwined throughout the op
ed piece . The article uses a narrow POINT OF VIEW and egocentrism. It fails to consider any
justifications for President Obama s proposed $500 Billion in defense budget cuts. Mr. Hanson
provides only a cursory and somewhat dismissive acknowledgement of excess in the defense
budget. His exclusion to consider... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to identify them when conducting EVALUATION OF INFORMATION when
presented by peers, staff, or literature. The author litters the article with false dichotomy , false
cause, red herring, and slippery slope statements. The open salvo is itself a false dichotomy when
he claims the US either must either maintain defense spending or withdraw from world
involvement. Critical thinkers must also identify red herrings and discount that information used in
an attempt to support an argument. The comparison of training and compensating Soldiers to
College students with debt is a red herring, and it provides little to support maintaining defense
spending. Failure to recognize logical fallacies may lead to the acceptance of slippery slope
conclusions as presented through a myopic viewpoint. In this case, that is a decline in defense
spending will cause the decline of

Civil Society And Its Prospects For A Democratic Transition
Civil Society in Cuba and Its Prospects for a Democratic Transition
4/23/12
Although evidence has shown that civil society is developing in Cuba, the country will probably
not undergo a democratic transition in the near future. Civil society is still repressed by the
government, independent media is mostly silenced, and many of Cuba s citizens appear
understandably apathetic. Cuba will only transition to democracy, develop a democratic political
culture, and consolidate its democracy only when civil society develops to a position of
organization, strength, and mass support. This essay seeks to analyze the major impediments in
Cuba s prospects for democracy.
Political History
Cuba was one of the last Latin American nations to gain independence. The island won its
independence from Spain in 1898, but was taken over by the United States after its victory in the
Spanish American War. In 1902, Cuba won its independence from the United States. In 1940,
Batista was elected president but was voted out of office in 1944. From 1944 until 1952, the
country was ruled by civilian presidents who had the support of political parties. In 1952, Batista
orchestrated a coup after being out of office for eight years and presided over a seven year military
dictatorship. Batista s anti communism won him the support of the United States, but his
administration was extremely corrupt and his closeness with the United States angered many
Cubans. In addition, under Batista

Characteristics Of Leopards And Leopards
Leopards The name leopard comes from a Greek word meaning leopardus. Which it s a
combination of a lion and a panther. They are also considered as panthers but it just has spots.
Leopards look similar to the jaguars but just that the leopards have little spots than the jaguar s
spots. These big cats aren t just any other big cats like the lion, jaguars, and tigers, What makes
them different than the jaguars is their coat, how they take care of their cubs, and what their
diet is. I know leopards are similar like these other big cats but let s just focus on these unique
cats. These panthers with spots have a soft fur just like any other mammals. Most of the
mammals fur are soft. Leopards and jaguars have the same patterns of fur, such as spot that are
black. The coat of most leopards is light tan with many dense black spots (page. 202 203) says
Schlitter. Which the leopards are described in some people eyes when they see them. As in the
jaguars their fur have bigger spots and sometimes have little spots inside the spots. The leopards fur
camouflages them into the grass that is around them, when they are being sneaky for their meal of
the day.
A leopard s diet are mostly anything that has considered meat which makes them carnivores. Each
time that they go and hunt, they aren t as picky on what they eat. Everytime that they go hunting
for their food they hunt for gazelle, impala, and deer. On occasion when they go hunting they go for
monkeys, rodents, and birds.

creating a sundial to keep track of time. Piggy strives to maintain a hold on the old world they

point events are interrupted as Jack has let the fire go out and a ship was passing. Piggy
supports Ralph in telling Jack off for his negligence and Jack hits Piggy in the face smashing
one of the lenses of his glasses, making it difficult for Piggy to see clearly. This seems to cement
the relationship between Ralph and Piggy and leads to Piggy becoming a threat and a person to
hate for Jack. He refuses to share the meat from the pig with Piggy , who is finally given some

is always telling him to shut up. The division between Ralph and Jack widens as he is concerned
only with hunting. Piggy is now dependant on Ralph as he cant see properly but similarly Ralph
is becoming dependant on Piggy for support as law and order is breaking down and Jack leaves
the group to set up his rival tribe taking with him by intimidation the choir and leaving Ralph and
Piggy to care for the littleuns. Piggy being the most mature of the boys , asserts that Life . . . is

Amyloid О’ Precursor Protein Analysis
Amyloid ОІ Precursor Protein (APP) is a gene that provides instructions for making a protein called
amyloid precursor protein (Andrew, 2009). Amyloid precursor protein is found in several tissues
and organs including the brain and the spinal cord in other words the central nervous system
(Andrew, 2009). Some studies suggest that in the brain, APP help direct movement of nerve cells
during early development. For instance, APP may be involved in the regulation of synaptogenesis
which is the formation of synapses between neurons in the nervous system(Dawkins, 2014).
Additionally, APP is cut by enzymes that create smaller fragments that are often released outside
the cell. Some fragments that help play a role in AD are soluble amyloid precursor

Domestic Violence and Social Problems
Domestic violence is a devastating social problem that impacts every sector of our population.
Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to
gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner(USDOJ,2012). Domestic violence
can be physical, economic, emotional, sexual, or psychological. Physical domestic violenceis an
attempt to impose physical injury such as grabbing, slapping, hitting, biting, etc. Physical violence
can also be withholding necessary resources to sustain health such as medication, food, sleep, or
forcing alcohol or other drug use. Economic abuse is an attempt to make the victim financially

Children who encounter domestic violence face increased risk of exposure to traumatic events.
These risks may include neglect, being directly abused, losing one or both of their parents. At
birth, a baby s brain is 25% of its adult weight, increasing to 66% by the end of the first year due
to the brain growth spurt which occurs between the seventh prenatal month and the child s first
birthday. The developing brain is the most vulnerable to the impact of traumatic experiences
during this time. New research on the brain development suggests that exposure to extreme
trauma will change the organization of the brain, resulting in difficulties in dealing with stress
later in life(NSW, 2002). Exposure to domestic violence can subject children to pervasive
traumatic stress which leads to Post traumatic Stress Disorder also known as PTSD. Post
traumatic stress disorder is a type of anxiety disorder. It can occur after you have gone through an
extreme emotional trauma that involved the threat of injury or death. Summarizing several
studies, Rossman and colleagues report that 13 50% of youth exposed to interparental violence
qualify for diagnosis of PTSD (NCBI,2007). Each child responds differently to trauma, some may
be rigid and not exhibit negative effects. In 2011, child protective services received 3.4 million
referrals, over 75 percent suffered from neglect which is one of the effects from children exposed
to domestic violence. The National Comorbidity Survey

Microsoft Built Security From The Bottom Up Sql Server
Microsoft built security from the bottom up in SQL Server 2005 and has aged in database
security in each new version ever snice. SQL Server 2012 continues the trend with cool new
features, like new server level roles, new algorithms, and new permissions. It also adds databases
that are contained, which allow the end users to connect to the databasewithout providing
permission at the server level. This is an excellent idea to solve problems when you move to
databases, but it sounds terrifying from a security context. There are other new security add ons,
along with tricks and shortcuts to old features. There is nothing really new in this current release,
just further constriction and familiarizing to the countless ways companies use the database server.
In this research paper, there are a couple of features to explore in SQL Server 2012. My dream is by
the end of this paper you will have all you need to choose if your database will be protected in SQL
Server 2012. Because of the security features in SQL server 2005 the 2012 SQL server was a
required advancement, but there may be other reasons why a consumer might not want to change to
a new server besides security.
There are new SQL Server 2012 security features that Microsoft has provided to their database
application program. The research paper will cover the most important features, which can be

Background
Homer s epic poem, the Iliad, first started as an oral storytelling tradition dating from about 1100
BC, after the Trojan war.
It is part of the great oral tradition of storytelling in the English language, of which Shakespeare
(the word bard is part of the tradition) and other famous writers are a part. The stories are of
heroes and heroines, wars and epic battles, great deeds and gods. They explore human nature and ...

Malouf tells stories within the story to illustrate the value of storytelling in looking at what it is to
be human, qualities such as grief, paternal love, fear, heroism, loyalty, pride, dignity, etc. He takes
a critical moment out of the Iliad and looks at universal human values and lessons to be learnt in
times of deprivation and loss.
There are a number of stories within the main story:
Priam/Peleus
Podacres/Hersione
Patroclus
Briesis
Beauty
Somax s family
Neotolemus
Cassandra
Hermes
Priam s sons
These all serve to illustrate both the power of storytelling and its importance in human life and the
meaning of the book, such as the nature of heroism and the role of chance in human life.
Mythic tales like the Iliad tend to ignore the smaller, detailed stories within it; the narrative sweeps
along in epic proportions and can be described as a saga. By structuring the story into five parts:
1. Achilles
2. Priam 3. The journey of Priam and Somax 4. Confrontation 5. Resolution and using very little
direct dialogue, Malouf concentrates on the human aspects of storytelling the people, and how they
influence their own lives. His highly descriptive, at times intimate and lyrical style gives us a
detailed understanding of and empathy for his characters and the choices they face. The narrator
plays the role of sympathiser and is, at times, omniscient in his observations and understanding.

Bubonic plague has had a major impact on the history of the world. Caused by the bacterium,
Yersinia pestis, and transmitted by fleas often found on rats, bubonic plague has killed over 50
million people over the centuries. Burrowing rodent populations across the world keep the disease
present in the world today. Outbreaks, though often small, still occur in many places. The use of
antibiotics and increased scientific knowledge first gained in the 1890s have reduced the
destruction of plague outbreaks. In Medieval times, with the unknowing help of humans, bubonic
plague exploded into a pandemic. Known as the ВіBlack DeathВІ, it decimated Europe in 1350,
killing 1/3 of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fourteenth century physicians didn t know what caused the plague, but they knew it was
contagious. As a result they wore an early kind of bioprotective suit which included a large
beaked head piece. The beak of the head piece, which made them look like large birds, was filled
with vinegar, sweet oils and other strong smelling compounds to counteract the stench of the dead
and dying plague victims.
Bubonic plague has a vaccine. It lasts for about 6 months. Currently, plague vaccine is not
available in the United States. A new vaccine is being worked on and could be licensed later this
year. Travelers to plague infested areas should take prophylaxic antibiotics. The preferred
antibiotic for prophylaxis is tetracycline or doxycycline, and for children 8 or less, sulfonamides.
Bubonic plague is easily treated if caught early. Streptomycin is the preferred drug, but gentamicin,
teracyclines, and chloramphenicol also are effective. Penicillin is useless on plague. Treatment
shortly after exposure can reduce overall plague mortality from 60% 100% to 10% 15%. The most
effective way to prevent plague is better sanitary conditions and precautions. These conditions and
precautions include:
rat populations should be controlled using rodenticide
effective insecticides should be used to control the flea population that transmits plague to humans
and rodents
ships should be fumigated with hydrocyanic gas before arriving in port
conditions around human dwellings should be made

Shi Huangdi Was Considered A Tyrant
Shi Huangdi was a part of China. He was the first to unite all the states in China during the
Warring States period and became the first self proclaimed Emperor of China. Also to top it off,
Shi Huangdi was considered a ruthless tyrant; a person who is cruel to all the people of China
and is considered this in history. Shi Huangdi s strict attitude towards the empire was essential
for his Legalist beliefs. Although he is considered to be a tyrant, Shi Huangdi helped China to be
in a strong, well vised government. Before the Ruling of Shi Huangdi Before Shi Huangdi was
the ruler of the Qin state, China was in utter chaos. At that time the states of the Autumn and
Spring Period were having conflicts with the other Chinese states. This time of independence and
war against the states was called the Warring States period. Seven major states tested their
strength with the others; the states would be: the Han, Wei, Zhao, Qi, Chu, Yan, and Qin. During
this time, all tried to overcome the enemy in order to expand their territory. In the Qin state, a
growing leader was about to prosper. Legends says a wealthy merchant who is acquainted with
King Zhuangxiang of Qin came to him one day in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty (770 256 BCE). His
name was Lu Buwei. On that day, Lu Buwei had arranged with the king to meet his lovely wife,
Zhao Ji. As soon as they met, the King Zhuangxiang of Qin felt an attraction to her. Eventually,

Textual Analysis Essay example
Overview:
The text, Writing on Demand: Best Practices and Strategies for Success is designed specifically
for teachers by teachers. With a quote on the cover of the text that is highlighted by a bright
orange background and explicitly states that this book is Ideal for SAT, ACT, AP, and State
Assessment Exams , the text quickly announces that its core audience is going to be teachers
within the middle school to high school range. Given the aim of this text, it proves to be a highly
beneficial work for aiding teachers in understanding how to adequately prepare their students for the
rigors of writing on demand, be it for regular classroom assignments or standardized tests. After a
thorough analysis of the text I found many of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Context for Usage: The grade levels this text is designed to prepare educators for teaching is
evidenced first in its overall discussion of properly preparing students to be able to write on demand
for state assessment tests. Given that such tests do not regularly take place until students are out of
elementary education it is apparent that this text is directed towards teachers working with a
higher age bracket. This is also further revealed in instances where teachers are directed to help
students think backwards, a skill that is not highly promoted in elementary education as most
children at this age level have not yet developed the capacity to think backwards. The process
described for enabling students to analyze prompts is also one that would be dominantly used
beyond the beginning years of education. Considering each of these factors, the aim of this text is
to be utilized by teachers working with a middle school to high school age bracket.
Learning Objectives: Learning objectives promoted in the college level class on teaching writing
that this text was handed out in, strongly emphasize the importance of group work, as revealed in
the writing theory handout and the scholarly overview handout (see attached).

Visual Culture Of Coca Cola And Mcdonalds
Visual culture is the use of images, media, and other visual modes to represent the events and
ideas of the world (Mirzoeff, 1999). The visual modes can range from an oil painting, to media
on the internet, advertisements or TV. Visual culture has an influence on the consumer who is
exposed to it. In this essay, I am looking specifically at how visual culture is used in
advertisements, and how large brands, such as Coca Cola and McDonalds, use visual culture
throughout their advertisements. Visual culture is often used to benefit a business. Such as
increasing brand recognition through the marketing of the brand via colour or imagery. It can
also be through catchy slogans or jingles that are created to leave an impression and therefore
influence the consumer to the extent that they are remembered for a significant period of time.
Therefore, it can be seen that Coca Cola and McDonalds both use different forms of visual
culture in order to improve company image and increase brand recognition. Coca Cola have often
used different forms of visual culture in their advertisements in order to portray their product and
company in certain ways, such as their manipulation of the Santa Clause character and image, and
their use of colours in their visuals. Coca Cola has taken the cultural image of Santa Clause and
made it a focal point in many of their advertisements. Before Coca Cola first featured Santa in their
advertisements in the early 1930 s, the character s image was very

My Year At The Winner City Pool
In my eighteen years of my life, this summer has by far been the most memorable. It was filled
with many great memories during these past three months. This summer was filled with a lot of
fun, excitement, nerves, and sadness. Summer started one week early, but other than that it was
pretty much the same as every other summer. I spent a lot of my time working, with my friends and
family, and in the gym.
This year was my fourth year working as a lifeguard at the Winner city pool. Every year I have
worked, we only had to jump in for kids around three times the whole summer, and this year we
jumped in over ten times. I had to jump into the deepest part of the pool, which is twelve feet
deep and grab a little boy who started sinking after he jumped off the diving board. It was not
hard because he was light and I could just grab his arm and pull him to the ladder but it was very
scary, and I was a little shaken up afterwards. Also this year I did my third year of private
swimming lessons. Usually I give around ten to twelve lessons a summer and this year I doubled
that and had twenty seven kids for lessons. Lessons were very hard to schedule this year since I
was so busy so working at the pool and teaching kids basically consumed my whole summer.
Just like any other summer, I was with my friends and family a lot. My friends and I would go to
the outdoor movie theater almost every Sunday night since it was cheap night and we always sat in
the back row and never watched the movie,

Aquaman Underrated Essay
Why Aquaman Is Underrated When someone asks who your favorite superhero is, Aquaman is not
a very common answer. But how much do they really know about him? All assumptions aside,
Aquaman is actually one of the most powerful DC Comic Book characters that exist. Although
Aquaman did not come around until the 1940s, the first newspaper comic strips started out in the
1890 (Harrison). A few nicknames given by people that do not appreciate the authenticity of
Aquaman include, The Prince of Tuna, the Aqualad from Atlantis, and the One SuperheroI Could
Probably Take Down in a Fight (Borrelli). People may give Aquaman more credit if they knew
more about his origin, his super abilities, and his impressive achievements. When the original
Aquaman was created, he was born into an underwater society of people who were just like him.
Aquaman was the only one of his kind to have fine hair like a human, which was severely looked
down upon. Because of this, as a child, Aquaman was abandoned by his parents and left at a
place called Mercy Reef to die. He was discovered by a dolphin named Porm. This dolphin raised
him until adolescence when he discovered a lighthouse keeper who took him in as his own son.
This man taught him the ways of the humans so that he could live in sea and on land. Although he

guardian of Hell named Cerberus, and talked Hades into releasing himself and Poseidon.

Evaluating Strategies For Retaining Effective Teachers
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate strategies when retaining quality teachers, and human
resource personnel tend to run into problems of retaining effective teachers. These issues tend to be
identifying quality teachers. The quality of a teacher is often seen after the teacher is in the
classroom by reviewing students annual standardized test scores. Determining the quality of the
teacher has been viewed in parallel of their pre service training and university when recruiting. It has
been common to offer favorable incentives to recruit quality teachers and offer competitive benefits
to reduce the turnover rate. Large scale education policy studies focus on relationships between

The mission to secure and retain an effective teacher can be costly. However, the price to identify
and retain these teachers have been in question to policymakers. Large scale education policy
studies focus on relationships between easily classifiable teacher background attributes and student
outcomes (Baker Cooper, 2015; Ballou Podgursky, 1995).
The role of the federal government expanded after The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and
heighten the pressure on schools to demonstrate student achievement (Smith, 2008), leaving
schools more accountable to education success. The NCLB act demanded high qualification
standards for teachers, but currently there is a shortage. Jacob (2007) describes the shortage as a
number of effective teachers the district wants to employ is greater than effective teachers willing
to work for given salary. Disadvantaged schools are unable to compete with higher salaries because
of their budget. This literature review will evaluate cost effective ways to retain effective teachers
in schools that lack resources.
Quality Teachers vs Effective Teachers.
School leaders need to be able to identify what they are looking for when recruiting and retaining.
Highly qualified teachers are measured by the competitiveness of their undergraduate institution,
by advanced degrees, by experience, and by scores of state licensure test (Clotfelter, Ladd, Vigdor,
2006). As stated in Title II program of the U.S.

Joplin s Influence On American Culture
The 1960s in America were a time of turbulence, and due to the Cold War, political

all inclusive. Every American s life was affected by the radical change taking place during the
1960s, moreover one young woman from Port Arthur, Texas, embodied everything that the
decade would come to be known for. Alice Echols s book Scars of Sweet Paradise: The Life and

Southern trees bear a strange fruit , saying that black bodies are like strange fruit that only grow

creates the image of a black body swinging back and forth and you can imagine the wind whistling

Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees echoes what is said in the first line of the poem. These

explain how to measure the application by the camera HR. For some chronic diseases, you have
to measure the frequency of extremely HR . In real life, there are many conditions that may affect
the heart diseases and conditions which can be very complex. If the HR can not be on time

Marine Biomes
Marine Biomes

A marine biome is a large aquatic zone that takes up almost 75% of Earth s surface, has a salt
concentration around 3%, and is distinguished from other biomes by its physical environment.
According to Campbell Essential Biology with Physiology, (2010), the habitats of a marine biome
varies depending on the level of the sea that it exists (pp.382). The layers or zones that make up the
marine biome consist of the pelagic realm, the intertidal zone, the photic zone, the aphotic zone, and
the benthic realm. The pelagic realm is the part of the marine biome that includes all open water.

Other marine life that exist in this ecosystem prey on other species for food, such as shark,
octopus, and larger fish prey on smaller marine life for food. Herbivory is a large part of the
marine life, which is the consumption of plant parts or algae by an animal. Phytoplankton, known as
algae and other plants of the marine environment is the producer for food of many species living in
this ecosystem. The consumer relies directly or indirectly on the output of the producers. A main
hazard to this ecosystem caused by humans would be pollution. The acid precipitation, toxic
chemicals, and other contaminants are harming the aquatic environment, and it contributes to the
dwindling population of species in this ecosystem. According to (Dickey, Reece Simon, 2010), this
human behavior has contributed to the decline in commercial fish species, dying coral reefs, and
even the closing of some beaches due to pollution. The abiotic factors present in this ecosystem
consist of temperature, light, water, minerals, and air. Majority of organisms living in this aquatic
environment require specific temperatures to survive, although temperatures can vary according to
the species. Obviously, water is a part of the aquatic environment, and is actually essential to all
parts of life. Light plays a major part in the photosynthesis process for many organisms

Unromancing The Dream Analysis

Reading 7: Unromancing the Dream Summary
The reading begins with two researchers Aserinsky and Dement, researching into why humans need
sleep. Then, it begins to talk about another two researchers, Allan Hobson and Robert McCarley.
They both came up with a new theory about dreaming, which was in essence, was that dreams are
nothing more than your attempt to interpret random electrical impulses produced automatically in
your brain during REM sleep. (Hock 2013). Basically what they were saying is that while we
sleep, a part of our brain produces electrical charges in the brain stem. While we sleep most other
parts of the brain are inactive, but the brain stem isn t. Hobson and

My Observations On My Observation
On the times/days of both my observation, I walked in, ordered my (light bulb) mint lemonade,
and took a seat on the inner most, and consequently also closest to the cash counter corner table
(made for 1 2 people); then I set my timer. At these times, I didn t use my phone (except for timing
my observations), put in headphones or any other such activities that would distract me from the
goal in place: to observe my surrounding. I chose this place precisely due to several of hundreds of
posts on Instagram of the lightbulb teas, where the teacups were recycled light bulbs, this was what
intrigued me most about this site. Additionally, lots of my friends had told me of this place being
great for students, thus selling me on this site.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
b)People
During both my observations I saw several varieties of people, most wearing scarfs and sweaters
(truly embracing sweater weather . The first time around I witnessed two girls, seemingly on a
study date, however (at least from what I saw) more interested in their phones, than each other,
their laptops or books. It is very possible they were just taking a break, or had been waiting on
another person to show, unfortunately I wasn t around long enough to be able to witness that.
There was another duo of girls, who from what I observed were celebrating a birthday, and
catching up after a long time. They were the loudest duo there, thanks to one of them in a
mustard blouse, green leggings and light beige heels; they were talking of fitness mainly, ways
to combat plateaus, how long it had been since one of them ad hit it (plateau, I mean), how long
it had been since they d seen each other, amongst other typical girl talk? Something I definitely
noticed was that everyone would pose their drinks for pictures, whether due to the ever growing
phenomenon of taking pictures of your food, or just due to the light bulbs I cannot be too sure.
Something that surprised me about my first visit was that, yes as expected there were mostly
young people there (the small cafГ© was so full, several people were standing to wait on their
drinks) , but there were also two (from what I saw) different groups of adult

Amateur Genealog
Was it an ominous secret that needed to be uncovered, a truth that needed vindication, or simply a
fabricated tale initiated by an uncle whose reality had been dimmed by passage of time? For years,
the now deceased uncle had insisted the family surname was not correct and was equally as
persistent that the familyname should be another. It didn t help that when immediate family
members were asked, they either didn t want to discuss it, or pleaded having no knowledge about
the subject. After so many years, could the real truth be uncovered?
How do amateur genealogists find connection, or in some cases, disconnection to people? Proving
the uncle wrong may have no impact, but proving him correct could affect several generations. Is it

Our family genealogist had made a common mistake, one that many people make and have to
acknowledge at a later date. With the availability of computer records, he had gone directly to the
computer for the fastest, and what he thought to be the easiest methods of building a family tree.
Our genealogist found out that that is not always true. Amateur genealogists skip over some of the
best methods for gathering evidence. Genealogy is a field in which older is better and leg work is
important. Begin with what you already know and then search in your community. Spread out from
there. Don t be shy about asking questions and keeping meticulous notes on the answers. The
smallest detail may become the clue to unraveling a mystery later on. Genealogists should talk to as
many older family members as possible. Unlike immediate family members, the older generation is
usually harboring an abundance of knowledge concerning past generations. Begin by engaging
them in conversations about their youth, their family, social issues and norms before asking
questions. Always listen attentively for important clues as they may drop valuable information to
you that seems relatively unimportant to them. Use resources like the old photos, Bibles, attic
trunks and other family heirlooms hidden in the attic or basement; they can contain important
information concerning family. Only after scouring hardcopies of one s personal resources, and
after making meticulous notes and charts, should one branch out. Computers are a great tool for
genealogical research, but they should be used in conjunction with other resources. Our genealogist
found that had he been more aggressive in his community search and asked more questions, he
may have found answers sooner. While it is recommended that one begin with a single surname,
family or individual; don t be afraid to branch out. Branching out to the siblings of his 2nd great
grandfather s siblings may have yielded the clues

Political And Economic Similarities And Differences Of The...
During the sixteenth century, both the Ottoman and Tokugawa Japanese empires had political and
economic similarities and differences. Politically, these empires were alike because both had
centralized bureaucracy but different because they had very distinct ways of keeping order within
their empires. Economically, they were similar because both depended on trade yet different
because of their willingness to trade. After close analysis the Tokugawa Japanese empirewas more
successful economically.
Politically the Ottoman empire and Tokugawa Japanese empire were similar because each of them
established a central bureaucracy as the head of their government to help maintain a stable yet
effective way of running their empires. In the Ottoman empire, the supreme authority was the sultan
who controlled political and military operations. While the grand vizier, also known as the chief
minister carried the main burden of the state. As the empire started to expand, the status and
prestige of the sultan increased and a centralized administration system was adopted to help
maintain order. The sultan controlled his bureaucracy through an imperial council that met four
days a week. The grand vizier led the council meetings, for which the sultan sat behind a screen
overhearing the proceedings and then privately indicated his desires to the grand vizier. In summary
in the Ottoman the supreme authority was the sultan while the grand vizier carried out the desires

Analysis Of Better Than Hum Our Jobs By Kevin Kelly
Christian Lous Lange once said, Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master. Many
would agree, as modern day scientists threaten that robots are taking over our jobs more and more
everyday. While many are discomforted by this idea, author Kevin Kelly is intrigued with this idea
in his article, Better Than Human: Why Robots WillвЋјAnd MustвЋјTake Our Jobs, saying that
increasing technology in the workplace will benefit our society by increasing productivity. In his
article, Kelly uses specific examples and tones in an attempt to relate to his audience, but fails to
present an argument that forces others to trust in the takeover of technology. Kelly uses an
academic, humorous tone in an attempt to appeal to his audience, but instead, sends a sarcastic
message to the readers. For example, Kelly wrote, A computerized brain known as the autopilot

Kelly claims that no matter what your current job or your salary, you will progress through these
Seven Stages of Robot Replacement... (311), beginning with denial that a robot could do our
jobs, then slowly accepting that these machines are capable of our everyday tasks, and more.
Kelly thinks we will believe that we are needed when the machine breaks down, but the
technology is apparently flawless. After figuring out that this technology can do our old jobs
better than we can, we realize that we did not like our job and we are much happier now that we
have moved on from our old boring job. What Kelly fails to realize is that several people do not
detest their jobs, and robots cannot do every job that humans can do. Some jobs, including social
work and criminal investigation, cannot solely be done by machines. It is seemingly impossible.
Therefore, Kelly s argument is invalid and cannot be used when arguing whether or not technology
should be allowed to takeover the

Alice Walker s Everyday Use is a short story about a mother and two very different daughters set
in rural Georgia during the late 1960 s. The plot is centered around on the two daughters, Dee
and Maggie, and focusing on the differences between the two and who will gain possession of
two hand made quilts that are seen as a coveted trophy by Dee and are viewed as everyday items
Maggie. The final decision of which daughter ultimately receives the quilts will be made by
Momma Johnson. Momma, who is never given a first name in the story, is a strong black woman
with many man like qualities. In real life I am a large, big boned woman with rough, man working

I will be focusing this paper on the reasons why Maggie should be given the quilts, reasons why
Dee should not be allowed to take them, and what this tell us about Alice Walker s sense of what
it means to be in touch with one s heritage. Maggie deserves the quilts because she appreciates
the practical value of the items and would naturally use them as they were intended. Like her
grandmother, Maggie is a person who values the quilts more as a practical solution for staying
warm at night than as folk art which should be displayed in a museum. Dee s thoughts of her
simple minded sister come into full light during a conversation with Momma when her request
for the quilts is denied. Maggie can t appreciate these quilts! She d probably be backward enough
to put them the everyday use. I reckon she would, Momma replied, God knows I been saving em
long enough with nobody using em. I hope she will. (DiYanni 748) With little or no money
during tough times, poorer families have often had to be more self reliant where learning to sew
was a skill that was valued and passed down to the younger generation. Maggie embraced this skill
while her more ambitious sister did not see the value in learning such an ordinary task. She can
always make more, Momma said, Maggie knows how to

Music Performance in Western Europe Seeing Europe and it s many treasures over sixteen days in

performing in the mountains of Switzerland there was never a dull moment in our limited time
there. It was amazing how different each city is from each other and the cultural differences we

thing in common; their passion for music. Our journey first started in the busy city of London,

The Tower of London has always played a prominent role in the English s history. Controlling the
Tower has always been important to controlling the country because of it s position on the River
Thames. Because it is so important it has been besieged several times. There is also a group of
at least six ravens that reside in the Tower of London. The ravens in the tower are there due to a
popular superstition that if the Tower of London ravens are lost or fly away, the Crown will fall
and Britain with it . Some of the ravens were even bred in Somerset specifically for the tower.
The bird s flight feathers on one wing are clipped so that they cannot fly away. That same day
we visited Buckingham Palace to watch the changing of the guard. The changing of the guard is
a colorful ceremony where the sentries are relieved and replaced by a new batch of sentries. The
ceremony is done every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday between January and March.
Buckingham Palace was built in 1703 and originally built for the Duke of Buckingham and was
called the Buckingham House. In 1761, King George III acquired the house and made it a private
residence for Queen Charlotte and was from then on known as The Queen s House. It was enlarged
twice in the 19th century and then once more in the 20th century. The next place we visited was the
Westminster Abbey. The Westminster Abbey is a large, Gothic abbey church in the

The Gilded Age, And The Gilded Age
In science, we have been taught that for every action there is a reaction. However, this can also be
applied to history. For example, after the French and Indian War, Britain had enforced the
navigation laws and taxes in order to pay for the war debt. This had caused a huge reaction from
the colonies from as simple as boycotting British goods all the way to declaring their independence
in 1776. Individuals can also help bring forth these dramatic changes such as Rosa Parks and Martin
Luther King Jr. who help fought for civil rights. Thus, throughout the United States history, the
nation has gone through a variety of changes. Although presidents have played a significant role in
the nation s changes, many individuals have also brought changes to the nation s economy,
government, and society. In addition to heroes like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr, another
individual includes Upton Sinclairand his contribution to consumer protection. The Gilded Age, a
phrase coined by Mark Twain, was used to describe the government and its corruption. Like its
name, the nation looked glamorous from the outside, but was full of corruption and political
scandals on the inside such as the Credit Mobilier scandal and Boss Tweed scandal. Government
at this time did little to help the nation, for its own congressmen were involved in the mix of these
corruptions. The government supported laissez faire, which believed that the government should
not regulate business and Social Darwinism survival of the fittest. As a result, this had led to the
suppression of individual rights, for there were no laws to limit the power of monopolies.
Therefore, the Gilded Age became known as corrupt, for the government had favored big
businesses and focused less on the working class. However, this would all change during the
Progressive Era.
In contrast of the Gilded Age, the Progressive Era was a response to the problems that were
created by the Gilded Age. Unlike the Gilded Age, the Progressive Era did not support laissez
faire and rejected the idea of Social Darwinism. Thus in 1901, Theodore Roosevelt was elected
president and came into office with his Square Deal policy. Included in this policy were Roosevelt

Essay Richard Nixon and the Watergate Scandal
June 17th, 1972 would be a day America would never forget it was the start of one of the largest
scandals in our government. Richard Nixon was president of the United States and the people
trusted him. However this trust would be betrayed, as he got involved in something now known as
the Watergate Scandal. This was an interesting time in history because it was a large cover up by
the Republican Party. Also, how different people reacted to this event was fascinating because
some people were so blind to the truth, that they stuck behind Nixon even once tapes and other
credible evidence against him was produced. In this paper I will describe the events of Watergate

Mr. Hunt has disappeared.1 The connection between Nixon and the scandal was undeniable, as
the investigations continued to happen more and more information was revealed, and the tie
between the burglary and the Republican Party grew. The five men who had been arrested had
been found with bugging and eavesdropping devices, different types of cameras and around
$5,000 dollars all in big bills. The money has now been traced. It turns out to be part of $114,000
which found its way from the Nixon headquarters to the Miami bank account of Bernard L.
Barker, one of the five men arrested at the Watergate.1 Journalists were writing up a storm during
this time, finding more and more ways to peg this on the Republican Party and Nixon, making
them have no way out besides admitting they were guilty. Despite denying that they had no way of
knowing how that money got to Mr. Barker, the people had no other choice then to believe them
guilty, stirring up more problems for Nixon s committee. From reading the articles that were
published in the newspapers during this time, it seems as though that the people were captivated by
what was happening and disgusted with the outright denial that the Republican Party lawyers and
spokesmen were sticking too. It is now clear that Republican denials of responsibility for the
sinister Watergate espionage case issued from the White house down

Thesis Statement Of A Medical Doctor
Introduction Career/Life Discussion A medical doctor is a person who practices medicine to save
people s lives by treating illness and injuries. There are many types of doctors, ranging from
general pediatricians to specialists. They may work at public health organizations, teaching
facilities, private practices, group practices, hospitals, and other settings. They are respected people
and are looked to when something is wrong. Everyone needs a doctor at some point, so doctors are
very much in demand. Thesis Statement They are four main weighed factors that go into your
decision to become a doctor. These four concepts are stress, perseverance, time, and family. Four
Concepts Stress Difficult patients Not every patient is easy to work with, just like not every doctor
is easy to work with. One of the most important factors in a doctor patient relationship is trust, and
if the patient refuses to trust the doctor, explaining procedures and recommending treatments can be
nearly impossible. Top doctors have the education, experience and certifications needed to make
health and treatment recommendations but those recommendations are only as good as the

How Is Antigone A Tragic Hero
The play Antigone by Sophocles shows the main character, Antigone, as a tragic hero. In the play,
Antigone wants to honor her brother, Polyneices, who died on the battlefield, by burying him
properly. Yet, Creon forbids anyone to bury Polyneices or the punishment is death. In this situation,
Antigone shows that she is elevated, basically good, has a downfall from fate, and struggles
heroically, making her a tragic hero. Antigone as a tragic hero demonstrates that even in ancient
times heroes were admired and commonly talked about in stories, even to this day. In the play,
Antigone has an elevated place in society. Antigone and her sister Ismene are daughters of Oedipus,
and nieces of Creon, the king of Thebes. Oedipus saved the city and this allowed for his daughters
to have higher social rankings. When Oedipus saved our city and then again When he died and you
remained with steadfast truth To their descendants (ll 186 188). Oedipus achievement make
Antigone and Ismene elevated in society. Antigone is basically good, constantly fighting for her
brother, Polyneices. Despite Creon s orders, Antigone insists that Polyneices deserves a proper

In Oregon there are restrictions of how much marijuana dispensaries and people can have. Marijuana laws in Colorado allow the purchase of marijuana to those 21 and over only. I feel bad for the marijuana growers because many growers started their businesses with their own money. Little insurance is also provided to these growers because of how it is considered illegal under federal law. The time it takes to start these businesses are intense because of permits, water forms, and licenses needed. I also feel bad for these growers because of how their crops can be damaged not only by flames but the smoke and ask in the air which can change flavor and cost of marijuana ... Mr. Dan Selig, president and CEO, would like to know the characteristics of his checking account customer. To better understand the customers, Mr. Selig asked Ms. Wendy Lamberg, director of planning, to select a sample of customers and prepare a report. To begin, she has appointed a team from her staff and the team has selected a random sample of 60 customers. All the information gathered is tabulated in the table below: X1 =... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For many years the mean checking balance has been $1600. Does the sample data indicate that the mean account balance has declined from this value? SOLUTION Вµ (Checking balance) = $1600.00 Number of customers, n = 60 In this case, level of significance, О± was not provided. Therefore, the analysis will be evaluated based on two О± values which are: О± = 0.05; ZО± = 1.65 О± = 0.01; ZО± = 2.33 Hypotesis testing 1) H0 : Вµ ≥ 1600 H1 : Вµ lt; 1600 2) О± = 0.05 О± = 0.01 3) Left tail test Z(0.05) = 1.65 Z(0.01) = 2.33 4) Z calculated : 1.65 2.33 О±=0.05 О±=0.01 Z= 1.2994 5) From calculations, computed z value is more than 1.65 and falls within Ho not rejected region. It is concluded that the mean checking balance is still similar or more than $1600 QUESTION 3 Recent years have also seen an increase in the use of ATM machines. When Mr. Selig took over the bank, the mean number of transactions per month per customer was 8; now he believes it has increased to more than 10. In fact, the advertising agency that prepares TV commercial for Century would like to use this on the new commercial being designed. Managers must not leave out unpleasant interactions that can transpire between the different system parts (Birnbaum, 1988). For example, employees can have a tremendous amount of skill but if they are ineffective at managing relationships with their fellow employees then there may be an increased potential for conflict. This can create obstacle that can make it very difficult to work together cohesively. Strategic Planning The composition of many different departmental strategies makes up the single organization wide strategic plan. Top higher education administrators are responsible for the overall strategic plan but the deans and managers are responsible for creating solid departmental strategies that are crucial to the strategic plan and implementation effort. Higher education institutions are beginning to adopt the successful practices that are used by profit based businesses. Following are five strategy making and implementation process tasks that managers are responsible for: 1.Forming a strategic vision that forecasts the institutions future appearance and also its direction. 2.Making Objectives. 3.Creating a strategy to achieve certain outcomes. 4.Effectively carry out the selected strategy. 5.Performance evaluation followed by needed corrections in vision, direction, strategy, altered conditions, ideas, and ... • 5. Write An Essay On The Effects Of Shooting A Basketball Basketball is a widely known game around the world. Played by both men and women it is one of the more popular sports around. Made in December of 1891 by Dr. James Naismith it is still being played today. Although basketball looks like a lot of running, dribbling, and shooting you ll learn that there is a lot more things that go into it. The art of shooting a basketballis a whole lot more than just aiming at the goal and flicking your wrist. You have to be able to have the right arc and trajectory to be able to get the ball through the hoop. Not only do those things go into a jump shot, but also spin is very important in shooting a shot. For instance, if you have the right speed and direction of spin on the ball than if you miss your shot, the way the ball spins off the rim or backboard may result in you hitting a lucky shot. The effects of air resistance of the ball are so small because of small velocities, so spin of a shot in air is not useful. What spin is useful for is for a better chance of the ball going in if the ball hits the rim (Kentridge). If you have the right amount of spin, trajectory, and arc on the ball than the better chance you have of getting the perfect swish. The backspin, after contact with the back rim or board, will result in a change in velocity opposite to the spin direction, changing an equal angle rebound into a velocity more toward the net (Willis). Backspin is very crucial in shooting a ball. If you do not have rotation on your ball then more than likely you will miss most of the shots you take. They will just bounce off of the rim or backboard without having a chance of bouncing in. With the spin on a shot, some of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Abstract Three new hydrazone ligands, H2L1, H2L2 and H4L3, were prepared by condensation of 4,6 bis(1 hydrazonoethyl)benzene 1,3 diol with furan 2 carboxaldehyde, thiophene 2 carboxaldehyde and 1H pyrrole 2 carboxaldehyde, respectively. The ligands reacted with copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II), zinc(II), cadmium(II) and dioxouranium(VI) ions, to yield binuclear complexes formulated as [(L)M2(OAc)2(H2O)n(EtOH)m]xH2OyEtOH where L = L1 or L2; M = Cu, Ni, Co, Zn or Cd; n = nil, 1 or 4; m, x and y = nil or 1, [(H2L2)Cd2(OAc)4(H2O)2]EtOH, [(L)(UO2)2(OAc)2(H2O)2Y2]nH2O where L = L1 or L2; Y = nil or H2O; n = 2.5 or 7, [(L3)M2(H2O)6]nH2O where M = Cu or Zn; n = 1 or 6, [(L3)(UO2)2(H2O)4]2.5H2O and dimeric complexes; [(L1)2Ni2]3H2O and [(H2L3)2M2]nH2O where M = Ni or Co; n = 1.5 or 3. The ligands and their metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H and 13C NMR, electronic, ESR and mass spectra, conductivity, magnetic susceptibility measurements and powder XRD as well as thermal analyses. The coordinating sites are phenolic oxygens, azomethine nitrogens and the hetero O/N/S atoms. Octahedral, tetrahedral and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Louise Bourgeois Cell XXV Analysis Cell XXV (The View of the World of the Jealous Wife) By Louise Bourgeois. An example of a work of art that I believe exemplifies the best of contemporary practice is Cell XXV (The View of the World of the Jealous wife), a sculpture by artist Louise Bourgeois (1911 2010). The sculpture was made in 2001 by the artist as part of her Cell series. The sculpture itself features three figures, each of them headless, armless and legless and each of them female. The three figures are encased in a prison cell, or birdcage like structure. On the floor are two large white marble spheres. Hanging between these two is a mannequin wearing a white dress, on one side, hanging slightly higher, another torso with just a neck and bust, wears flowery fabric, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much of Bourgeois work revolved around her own personal feelings towards her childhood and the ongoing affair that her father had with her childhood nanny and it would not be difficult to see how this piece could represent the anger felt by the wife her mother towards both her fathers mistress (the figure in white in the centre perhaps) and towards him, being represented by the implied phallus constructed by the spheres and the white figure. The white figure and spheres can also be looked at as a simultaneous depiction of both the father and his mistress with the Jealous Wife and perhaps the artist herself depicted as the short torso, looking upon them both with hatred. The clothing worn by the figures seems to be of importance too. The figure in the middle wears white, as does the short torso, a colour typically used symbolically in clothing to depict innocence and purity as with wedding dresses and communion dresses etc, and yet here it seems to have been used with irony, perhaps the artist laughing at the thought of the people depicted in this sculpture being deemed innocent. The figure in the blue dress stands out in comparison and is black in colour as well to contrast further the all white of it s companions. This figure is clearly an outsider, a disapproving observer of what it is witnessing. Despite its separation from the other figures in the sculpture however, all three are enclosed together in this cell and closed off from the rest of the world. They remain frighteningly still and trapped. Perhaps this is a comment on how isolated Bourgeois felt from the rest of the world in her youth. Perhaps it is a comment by the artist on how she felt her fathers affair took over her whole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Caesar, Hannibal, and Alexander the Great Essay It was the leadership of Caesar, Alexander, and Hannibal that heavily influenced the Roman society, the ancient world, and the western civilization. Ambition drove Alexander the Great to conquer the unconquered, propelled Caesar to the top of the political spectrum with no birthright, and helped Hannibal defeat a dominent society in the ancient world. It was Julius Caesars successful military tactics, his drive to the top of the political society, and his succession without the right, privilege, and possession to which a person is entitled to by birth. Alexander, and Hannibal proved to be superior leaders, and military geniuses, but above all Julius Caesar was the greater of the three. Great military intellectuals pursed forward in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He seized a shield from a soldier in the rear ranks, pushed his way to the front, called upon centurions by name, then sounded the charge. The mere gesture revived his men and made them surge forward. At the end of the day, The Nervii were hacked to pieces.[3] Caesar s compassion and intelligence shined through. This exposed that Julius Caesar cared for his troops, by taking the time and effort to support his men by assisting them in a battle, and an effort to remember centurions names to move them onward. The intelligence of these great military leaders impacted and determined there success, but Julius Caesar s presence on the battle field not only struck fear in the enemy but instilled so high a moral boost that victory could be snatched out of the jaws of defeat. Ambition is a driving factor, that impels a being to be successful, conquer the unconquered, and achieve never ending glory. Alexander s ambition drove him to achieve a past generations goal, Alexander now took on a project the Philip had planned but never carried out: an invasion of Persia [4] Alexander was ambitious to implement this task that was not attained by his deceased father. Undeniably after subduing Greece, dominating Indian territories at the Hydespas River, and pursing through Persia, Alexander still wanted to push onward. Hannibal on the other hand, was driven to ... • 9. Shortfalls Of Critical Thinking Analysis Victor Davis Hanson s op ed piece about the dangers of defense cuts demonstrates shortfalls in two critical thinking areas. These areas are POINT OF VIEW and EVALUATION OF INFORMATION, as described by Dr. Gerras paper on critical thinking. Strategic leaders familiar with the Dr. Gerras Critical Thinking Model are able to use it to analyze Mr. Hanson s article. It is imperative that strategic leaders become critical thinkers. They can use Dr. Gerras model to identify the various critical thinking shortfalls. There are multiple instances of POINT OF VIEW and EVALUATION OF INFORMATION critical thinking shortfalls intertwined throughout the op ed piece . The article uses a narrow POINT OF VIEW and egocentrism. It fails to consider any justifications for President Obama s proposed $500 Billion in defense budget cuts. The open salvo is itself a false dichotomy when he claims the US either must either maintain defense spending or withdraw from world involvement. Critical thinkers must also identify red herrings and discount that information used in an attempt to support an argument. The comparison of training and compensating Soldiers to College students with debt is a red herring, and it provides little to support maintaining defense spending. Civil Society And Its Prospects For A Democratic Transition Civil Society in Cuba and Its Prospects for a Democratic Transition 4/23/12 Although evidence has shown that civil society is developing in Cuba, the country will probably not undergo a democratic transition in the near future. Civil society is still repressed by the government, independent media is mostly silenced, and many of Cuba s citizens appear understandably apathetic. Cuba will only transition to democracy, develop a democratic political culture, and consolidate its democracy only when civil society develops to a position of organization, strength, and mass support. This essay seeks to analyze the major impediments in Cuba s prospects for democracy. Political History Cuba was one of the last Latin American nations to gain independence. The island won its independence from Spain in 1898, but was taken over by the United States after its victory in the Spanish American War. In 1902, Cuba won its independence from the United States. In 1940, Batista was elected president but was voted out of office in 1944. From 1944 until 1952, the country was ruled by civilian presidents who had the support of political parties. In 1952, Batista orchestrated a coup after being out of office for eight years and presided over a seven year military dictatorship. Batista s anti communism won him the support of the United States, but his administration was extremely corrupt and his closeness with the United States angered many Cubans. • 49. The Gilded Age, And The Gilded Age In science, we have been taught that for every action there is a reaction. However, this can also be applied to history. For example, after the French and Indian War, Britain had enforced the navigation laws and taxes in order to pay for the war debt. This had caused a huge reaction from the colonies from as simple as boycotting British goods all the way to declaring their independence in 1776. Individuals can also help bring forth these dramatic changes such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. who help fought for civil rights. Thus, throughout the United States history, the nation has gone through a variety of changes. Although presidents have played a significant role in the nation s changes, many individuals have also brought changes to the nation s economy, government, and society. In addition to heroes like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr, another individual includes Upton Sinclairand his contribution to consumer protection. The Gilded Age, a phrase coined by Mark Twain, was used to describe the government and its corruption. Like its name, the nation looked glamorous from the outside, but was full of corruption and political scandals on the inside such as the Credit Mobilier scandal and Boss Tweed scandal. Government at this time did little to help the nation, for its own congressmen were involved in the mix of these corruptions. The government supported laissez faire, which believed that the government should not regulate business and Social Darwinism survival of the fittest. As a result, this had led to the suppression of individual rights, for there were no laws to limit the power of monopolies. Therefore, the Gilded Age became known as corrupt, for the government had favored big businesses and focused less on the working class. However, this would all change during the Progressive Era. In contrast of the Gilded Age, the Progressive Era was a response to the problems that were created by the Gilded Age. Unlike the Gilded Age, the Progressive Era did not support laissez faire and rejected the idea of Social Darwinism. It turns out to be part of $114,000 which found its way from the Nixon headquarters to the Miami bank account of Bernard L.
