The Pemberton osteotomy is a peri capsular osteotomy of the ilium performed since 1965 to treat congenital hip sublaxation or dislocation. It reshapes the acetabulum by hinging on the triradiate cartilage to provide anterior and lateral coverage, allowing for concentric reduction and creating a capacious acetabulum with reasonable joint mobility. Potential complications include premature closure of the triradiate cartilage, over reduction, hypercontainment, and reduced acetabular volume. It is contraindicated in cases of a closed triradiate cartilage, small acetabular volume, deformed femoral head, or severe stiffness.
