ROLES + OUTCOMES
Member of Adelaide Central Market Traders Advisory
Group (2012 – 2013)
• Proactive representation of the Traders to improve the
community profile of the Central Market. I proposed sev-
eral strategies endorsed by the Group and Adelaide City
Council representative.
• One of five members selected to represent the Group
in an individual interview with the consultant initiating
the Central Market Authority
• I created the promotion of the Market in the‘Taste’section of the
Advertiser in a Market Fresh column. This advertised Traders and
their best seasonal produce.
I also suggested idea of 2 hours free parking with purchase on
Wednesday to increase customer numbers. This was advertised in
the Taste section, the Advertiser.
• I created the idea to employ professional merchandising to de-
sign and liaise with traders to upgrade their stall appearance and
attract more sales. This was very successful with some stalls.
• I suggested the idea to organise art decoration within the
Market, more attractive customer seating, more Food and Wine
Events for customers, permanent attractive plant displays and
more live music on a regular basis to attract and attain customers.
• I created the idea to introduce a‘garden space’outside of Grote
and Gouger Street customer entrances to attract more customers.
This development, combined with other marketing initiatives, has
increased customer foot fall by an average of 20% in 2015. This
has also lead to the Grote Street entrance pop up stalls being pro-
moted with Trader’s product in Lunch Boxes and Trader’s coffee
being sold during Market Week and Fringe events.
4. PEITAHATCH
• As a stall holder and in liaison with the Central Market
Marketing Managers I was innovative to increase sales
for traders in the Central Market.
• I created idea to approach Callum Hahn (MasterChef) to run
cooking lessons with Market Foodie customers and their friends
and family, utilising the Market commercial kitchen that was not
commercially viable beforehand.
This has been hugely successful. It now has developed into
Sprout (cooking) because of customer demand. Produce from the
Market Traders was bought for the Market classes, many school
group classes, Corporate cooking groups, school holiday chil-
dren’s cooking classes and Market lunch boxes.
This also led to Callum’s Market Tours showcasing Traders’stalls
included as part of the Sprout classes and extra retail sales.
There has been an overall greater exposure for Traders and sales.
• I also created the idea to bring Adelaide Fringe performers into
the Market for customer’s enjoyment and attraction.
• I have established strong working relationships through
personal and social media communication with the
following business people, and marketing and food
organisations
• Australian Food Bloggers National Conference (exhibitor)
• Adelaide Central Market
• Merchandising Managers
• Social Media Coordinators
• Events Coordinator
• Merchandisers
• Chairman Trader’s Group
• Market Managers and CEO’s
• Adelaide Central Market Board (committee member)
• Food Wholesale Company owners and sales managers
• Local food producers
• Local chefs
• SA Life magazine (retail display re Central Market)
