Naked Egg Lab Experiment
Naked Egg Lab
Frances Jose
Redmond High School Biology, Period 3
Mrs. Sinclair
7 November 2014
Introduction
The objective of the Naked Egg Lab is to soak the egg in a solution and determine if that solution is
isotonic, hypertonic, or hypotonic in relation to the egg. A solution is a mixture of two or more
substances in which the molecules of the substances are evenly distributed (Miller/Levine 2000). The
substances in a solution are solutes, the substance that is dissolved (Miller/Levine 2000), and solvents,
the substance in which the solute dissolves (Miller/Levine 2000). In this case, the egg will be put in a
salt water solution, where salt is the solute and water is the solvent. This lab is looking for three
different types of solutions; isotonic, hypertonic, and hypotonic. An isotonic solution is when the
concentration of two solutions is the same (Miller/Levine 2000). When a solution has a higher
concentration of solutes than the solution on the other side of the membrane, it is hypertonic.
Hypotonic solutions are the opposite, and have a lesser concentration of solutes than the solution on
the other side of the membrane.
Diffusion is the process by which molecules tend to move from an area where they are more
concentrated to an area ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the shell is finally gone, the egg will be placed in the salt water solution. Since only water can
move in and out of the egg, the semipermeable membrane allows for an exploration for the concepts
of diffusion and osmosis (Ryczkowski 2014). If the solution is hypotonic, the egg s mass (quantitative
data) will increase because the water will pass from an area with high concentration (water), to an area
with low concentration (egg). It is predicted that the egg will gain mass and look larger (qualitative
data) because of

Baumrind Parenting Style
Parenting Styles Hanna Lagman Los Angeles Harbor College Abstract Parenting styles play an
important role in a child s development. Diana Baumrind identified four parenting styles:
authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, and neglectful. According to Baumrind, the authoritative style
works best. In order to understand parenting practices in other cultures, Mexican families and
Caucasian Non Hispanic families will be compared. It is hypothesized that the Mexican families
utilize the authoritarian parenting style, while the Caucasian Non Hispanic parents utilize authoritative
parenting style. All families were given a questionnaire to compare the parent s parental practices
across two cultural groups. It was anticipated that the families would differ in parental styles;
however, there were no differences between the parenting styles within the cultural groups. Parenting
Styles Developmental Theory In 1971, Diana Baumrind categorized different parenting styles by
observing middle class parents interacting with their children (Belsky, 2010, p. 201). Baumrind s
parenting styles influence the field of child development and have been widely cited. In her research,
she developed four parenting styles: authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, and neglectful. They are
analyzed by two factors: responsiveness and demandingness. Parental responsiveness refers to how
parents respond to the child s needs. Parental demandingness refers to the parent s

Ramawat Nikhil Dev Tiwari (Acting Head) ABSTRACT Cold storages form the most important
element for proper storage and distribution of wide variety of perishables, especially fruits and
vegetables. According to a rough estimate 25% of fruits and vegetables worth crores of rupees are
spoiled every year for want of adequate post harvest technologies including cold storages. It is
therefore necessary that cold storages are to be constructed in major producing as well as consuming
centers. Since there is no cultivation of generally cold stored items like apple, oranges, chilly etc. in
some states. The demand of off seasonal vegetables and fruits are very much, so the consumption of
these type of vegetables and fruits are very high. The most obvious losses after harvest are caused by
mechanical injury, decay and aging. Losses in moisture, vitamins, sugars and starches are less
obvious, but they adversely affect quality and nutrition. Rough handling and holding at

Deregulation And Lack Of Supervision
Additionally, reasons for most of the major crises were deregulation and lack of supervision. Until
recently, such complex products like derivatives were unsupervised as they were not directly
connected to the deposits.
A change in regulation is one of the problems which arises for structured products. For example
decision of government to decrease use of non standardised or opaquely priced financial products. The
aim of such action is to attract attention of structured products users to the need of covering
externalities placed by such instruments.
Moreover, crises are considered to be consequences of several negative economic indicators, however
this is not correct for the 2007 crisis, which happened during the period of high and stable growth rate
and low inflation. Due to a strong connection between financial markets, the crisis spread fast
globally. This showed that even well developed economic system can experience damageable drops.
As a countermeasure, in developed countries, governments set their monetary policies to stimulate
industrial output and recover financial markets.
4.2. Structured Products are to Blame
Structured products are blamed for playing important role in the 2007 crisis. The securitisation process
changed the way banks operate as the originate to hold model replaced by the fee driven originate to
distribute model. New operating model helped banks reduce maturity mismatch for assets and
liabilities. However, such products are not transparent

Art During The Trojan War
I. INTRODUCTION.
I will compare two pieces of artwork to explore as I share expression of ideas that represents during
the Trojan War in ancient Greece. For my visual art, I chose a vase by Exekias Epoiesen, my visual
artwork is titled Achilles and Ajax, playing a board game around 540 530 BCE in Musei Vaticani,
Rome when two men took a break from the bloody battles of the war. The My literary artwork is by
Homer; his epic poem is titled the Iliad is around Ninth Century BCE in Troy during the bloody
battles of the Trojan war (Richmond Lattimore). I will compare the Representation of the Trojan War
theme with the visual and literary artwork of the bloody battle of the experiences of the hero s main
characters as, the works connect the experiences of men being one of the strongest humans and the
attitudes through artwork, poet s literary, film, Greek Mythology that represents the bloody battles of

Conical Hat Definition
The thoughts about ceramic shape s history gave me a ground to be able to create the Conical Hat
series works, and the investigation of conical hat provides the depth of my work. However, it still has
lots of space for my personal concepts and understandings in this series of work. According to those
studies on object and shapes, my central idea can be concluded into just one word which is container .
I view the Conical Hat series are containers. Then, what is the container? Container is a Middle
English word. It comes from contain with er. It is a noun which means anything that contains or can
contain according to The Macquarie Dictionary. In The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary, container
appears as a word under the explanation of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beyond to describe different kinds of containers, the act to be a container can mean something else
and worth to think about it. Being a container can be seen as taking the role of protection, storage or
transportation. Different container can have different roles. It gives container a character that can be
classified. Besides, from the other side of this idea, after a container been found, the act afterwards
also be assigned. It is like when you found a jar, what you put in it will give the jar its value. Or like,
you give different values to the same jar than other people did to it. According to the analysis of
container, there are two levels of how my Conical Hat series links to the concept of the container.
First, conical hat is a kind of container. Second, conical hat is a container of emotion. Conical hat is
the container is the direct connection. From geometric sense, conical hat is a hollow cone shape,
which enables it could contain something in it. The object, which has ability to hold things, can be
called container, which is not related to it should or should not. It is a very straight

Critism in Plato
What is life? This is the one question that to this day still cannot be answered. Over the years millions
of people have had there own interpretation of what is means to live. However the quest to answer this
rhetorical question goes back to the golden days of Greek civilization when the worlds greatest
philosophers first attempted to find the answers to this question. As his position takes form in the
Republic, Plato claims that only a very few individuals are capable of understanding how human life
is to be lived. If it could be done, the rest of us would be best off it we were to let out lives be
controlled by such individuals . This position held by Plato has been one of much discussion and
disagreement over the years. In this paper I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also you can t blame him because as it is visible in the Republic, Thrasymachus says, I declare justice
is nothing but the advantage of the stronger . All that this quote basically incorporates is that justice is
nothing to normal people but in essence it s just an advantage to those people who are rulers and are
stronger than the ordinary people. He brings up a great point stating that when robbery and violence
are practiced by normal people its considered injustice, however when this is practiced by mass or
most often by rulers or those in charge its considered justice. Since the rulers themselves do not obey
the principles that they impose on the citizens, they are themselves unjust . Because of this the tyrant
himself is happy because he breaks the rules of justice that he imposes on the weak people below him.
When you are allowing yourself to be governed and controlled by someone else rather than yourself it
is not justice it s basically considered slavery. These are all the ideas brought upon by Thrasymachus
in the Republic. However on the other hand in Book I of the Republic Plato s mentor Socrates tries
and contests Thrasymachus ideas. Socartes brings up a great point in saying that if the weak
themselves were strong enough to prevent someone from becoming a tyrant then they themselves are
strong meaning they don t need help. Socartes basically insists that a lot of the power of the man has
to do with his

Examples Of Irony In The Cask Of Amontillado
In the story Cask of Amontillado Fortunato and Montresor walked thru the vaults in search of
Amontillado in what appeared to Fortunato as nothing more than a friendly encounter. Montresor
states, As you are engaged, I am on my way to Luchesi. If any one has a critical turn, it is he. He will
tell me Fortunato states, Luchesi cannot tell Amontillado from Sherry. Let us go (237). As they
continue their descent further into the vault, Montresor notices Fortunato excessively coughing and
says, Come, we will go back; your health is precious. You are rich, respected, admired, beloved; you
are happy, as once I was. You are a man to be missed. For me it is no matter. We will go back; you will
be ill, and I cannot be responsible (238). Little to Fortunato s surprise, this friendliness from
Montresor was nothing more than an act in order for him to carry out his revenge from an earlier insult
from Fortunato. In The Cask of Amontillado , the author uses irony to expand on his theme of a man
who seeks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One must believe that at that very moment, he knew these actions would catch up to him in a major
way. In The Cask of Amontillado , the author uses irony to expand on his theme of a man who seeks
freedom through revenge on another man. In this story, irony is seen when Montresor and Fortunato
meet at the carnival event, on the descent into the vault, and when Montresor punished Fortunato and
is also being punished in return. Montresor now knows his eternity will be in the gates of Hell as his
punishment for seeking revenge and punishing Fortunato. The final sentence of the story is a
statement made by Montresor, In pace requiescat! (240). This is translated to May he rest in peace.
This is the most ironic of all situations throughout the story because even though he hopes Fortunato
rests in peace, he himself will have no such peace in

The Influence Of Friday Night Lights On Football Culture
The main idea of this paper is to introduce you to what really happens as a high school athlete and the
things you learn along the way. High school sports is way more than just playing the sport, it shows
you what you are really made of and how to handle problems life is going to throw at you. The
adversity you face as an athlete carries over to real world problems and you have been there and done
that, so handling adversity is second nature. This information comes from all my coaches, myself and
Friday Night Lights. I feel I have already grown as a person by competing in athletics and calling
other people my brothers. Not only does high school athletics help you in the long run, but it helps you
with problems you have now.

It showed everyone s problems and how they handle those problems. In some cases like the star
quarterback Brian who was paralyzed from the waist down, showed how he handle that major obstacle
by himself. Rarely did Friday Night Lights show the coach, players, or family support him. In real life
football culture the star quarterback who was paralyzed would get endless amounts of support. Not
only from his family, but his football family too. The football family along with his real family would
be there with him through all the ups and downs. Not just for a month, but for his whole life. Football
culture creates a bond that can never be broken and Friday Night Lights did a bad job of showing that
truth, but in other cases, Friday Night Lights did an amazing job by showing the truth of football
culture by how they handle adversity. Adversity is everywhere and can hit you at any time of the day
and any day in the year. As adversity hit the star Running Back Dash, he folded it up and called it
quits. He was going to be a gangster and play the streets game, but something changed inside of Dash.
After the abuse charges and numerous of injuries he could not quit, he worked harder than he has ever
worked before. He pushed himself to the limit and got that scholarship he dreamed of getting. You
might ask what changed inside of Dash, and that answer is his coach. His coach walked to his house
and told him how it was, he saw great talent and a great young man. All Dash needed was a reminder
and throughout all the problems that have been explained in this paper you always need that back bone
of advice and Friday Night Lights did a fantastic job of proving that. In the TV show the coach was
the backbone for advice. Any problems the players faced they went straight to the coach. They did not
go to their mom or dad, but they went to the leader of their second family and that holds a

Compare And Contrast The Southern Colonies And The New...
There are more differences amongst all the colonies than there are similarities. Two colonies that will
be discussed are the New England Colonies and The Southern Colonies. These two colonies are on
opposite ends of one another and have different obstacles they deal with daily. They both practice
religion; however one worships more than the other and the religious beliefs in the two are different.
Weather is hard to deal with in both colonies as they struggle differently; New England s weather is
brutally cold and The Southern Colonies deal with humid heat. The weather is a large factor when it
comes to their ways of the land and crops that are able to grow. New England was founded in 1630 by
Pilgrims. The layout of the land was mostly made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Farming in the New England colonies was a challenge. Due to the cold, long, and harsh winters, the
growing season was very short. The soil was also rocky, so farmers had to take all the rocks out of the
ground before planting. Due to these shortcomings, the farmers in the New England colonies only
farmed enough for their family, themselves, and their farm animals (Diamond). Due to this issue, they
didn t have much need for slaves because of the lack of crops. They also couldn t afford slaves
because for one they didn t have enough work to keep them busy and two they didn t have enough
crops to share. At first, the south also relied on the forests and the water, but tobacco and cotton later
emerged as cash crops. Initially these crops were harvested by indentured servants, but with the
growth of plantations, planters started to import slaves from Africa (Rosenzweig). So the opposite
goes for The Southern Colonies; they needed slaves to help with the large lands they owned. They
knew that without slaves their own family wouldn t be able to keep up with the land/crops so therefore
they hired several slaves to do

Becoming a California State Lifeguard
Becoming a lifeguard has been an interest of mine for many years. Leading a healthy active lifestyle
and helping others is a great profession. Being able to live and work in beautiful California State Park
Lands, educating people about water safety, rescuing victims from rip currents, and training the youth
to be competent in the water are all great reasons to be a California State Lifeguard. Also, along with
many responsibilities, a lifeguard must be in top physical and mental health. There are many

The use of lifeguards on beaches in California began in the late 1930 s. Communities grew around
seasonal beach attendance because it was an affordable place for adventure after the Depression.
When transportation improvements made the beaches accessible to the inland communities, swimmers
entered the surf zone. In Southern California drownings increased on a massive scale. For example, in
the early 1900 s Newport Beach experienced 18 drownings in one weekend. In 1918, 13 people
drowned in San Diego in one day. Lifeguard services were modeled after east coast lifeguard
operations. Swim lines or lifelines were attached to shore. However, struggling swimmers were not
always able to hold onto them. Row boats(dory boats), the rescue paddle board, and throw lines were
used. Swimming rescues were the last resort due. So, eventuality Californians supported bond issues
that allowed the Division of Beaches and Parks to acquire significant coastal land. Acquisition of land
led to the development of campgrounds. They both became instantly popular and the immediate need
for lifeguard service was met with a contract to the

Definition Of Wisdom In Fahrenheit 451
There are many definitions of wisdom but one of the best understanding I have received is that
wisdom is knowledge gained through suffering. Elaine Heath
This quote from Elaine Heath and Larry Duggins book Missional.Monastic.Mainline. mentioned what
I thought of as the quintessential definition of wisdom. Through effort and sacrifice, one can attain
pearls of wisdom such as freedom can t be bought cheap, it s better to die with knowledge than to live
in ignorance, and ignorance is bliss only for those whose minds are vacant of the veracity of facts.
Freedom is the foundation of western democracies and the fundamental argument that people have the
unalienable right to live as they choose and it is undeniable that freedom can t be bought cheap. This
is true since freedom is the reason for the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, etc.In
Fahrenheit 451, the value of freedom is illustrated in Montag s conversation with Mildred after he
witnessed the immolation of the old lady where he verbalizes his frustration by saying There must be
something in books, things we can t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be
something there. (Bradbury 48) In this quote, we can see that the lady choose to stay with her books, a
symbol of freedom and knowledge, which emphasized the idea that freedom is worth giving one s life
to protect. During the Civil War Civil War and Jim Crow era (1865 1965) African Americans had to

Analysis Of Dave Barry s Anecdote A Couple Of Really Nice...
Do you hate littering? Don t you hate when you go to a nice beach and you see trash all over? Dave
Barry s anecdote A Couple Of Really Nice Guys is a high level of comedy that uses a personal issue
and exaggerates it to reveal universal truth about littering. The author uses comic
characters/caricatures and hyperboles. First, the author used a lot of hyperboles. For example, on page
326, I HATE littering. I hate it when you go to a park or the beach and the day is suddenly destroyed
by the arrival of The Picnic People from Hell. This situation was exaggerated with humor to express
the narrator s hatred for littering. Another example of a hyperbole is on page 325, They just WALK

how big of a mess they left. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, on page 326, Captain Tidy is a concept I have fantasized about for many years. He is a
masked avenger for the forces of neatness. When a person litters, Captain Tidy comes swooping out of
nowhere and explains to the litterer, in polite terms, that he or she is being a jerk. Captain Tidy is a
caricature in this passage. He is a character that the narrator made up so he could have some fun but
also tell people to pick up their trash. The narrator and his friend would dress up in their costumes and
go out in public to stop people from littering. The reason why Captain Tidy is considered a caricature
is because he is a made up character. Another example of a caricature is on page 326, But if I knew
that if Captain Tidy had a SIDEKICK, a LARGE sidekick, a large, TRAINED OPTOMETRIST
sidekick, that would be a whole different story. And thus Jeff and I became Captain Tidy and Neatness

Brief Description Of Manila, Philippines
BODY
I. Brief Description of Manila, Philippines.
Manila is the capital of the Philippines and it is located in Luzon; which is the largest island in the
archipelago. Due to its convenient location for a trade route, it is known as the Pearl of the Orient.
Before Manila was rebuilt, the city suffered many episodes of destruction during World War II
(WWII) where the Japanese invasion occurred. Even though Manila is believed to be one of Southeast
Asia s best capital cities for its breathtaking views and culture, it has its flaws. Manila is filled with
crime, corruption, overpopulation, and the daily inevitable and cumbersome traffic jams. Yet, this city
is still the biggest, most developed and prosperous when compared to the other cities in the
Philippines.
II. The Importance of Preserving Historical Landmarks
Historical landmarks are just as important as every other building that has ever existed. They all have
a purpose; yet people still choose to demolish these structures. It shows a lack of respect towards the
architectural monuments. Most believe that creating brand new buildings is cheaper and more
beneficial rather than maintaining the ancient ones but it is the opposite. You can save money by
preserving them; building a brand new structure costs more.

How To Connect A Hot Tub Essay
What To Expect When Connecting A New Hot Tub To Electricity
If you re planning to buy a hot tub, one thing you ll have to do is hire an electrician to get the
electrical panel ready. While you might be able to pour the foundation for the tub and assemble it once
it s delivered, connecting it to electricity should be done by a licensed residential electrician. Here is a
quick look at the process of hooking your tub up to electricity.
Check Local Codes
Hiring an electrician isn t only for safety reasons, it s also so the work is done up to code. You ll want
to call your local codes office and find out if you need a permit and inspection for your newly installed
tub. You ll probably find out the work has to be completed by a licensed electrician and done
according to standard national and local codes. These codes regulate how close the pool must be to the

This is done by laying down a conduit first. This is a tube that holds the cords so they are protected
from water, insects, and other harm. The conduit can be buried underground or placed in a trench in a
concrete foundation. If you plan to bury the conduit, you want to check with your local utility
companies to make sure you won t dig in areas where pipes and wires are buried close to your house.
Once the conduit is where you want it, the electrician pulls the wires through it and connects one end
of the wires to the electrical panel and the other end to the hot tub.
The final step before filling your hot tub with water is to have it inspected. This may be a necessary
step required by a local codes inspector to make sure the work is done right and your tub is safe. Even
if your local codes office doesn t require an inspection, you want to make sure the electrician performs
an inspection of the work from start to finish. Then you can rest easy knowing your hot tub is safe and
ready for you to

Aldi Store Analysis
On Friday after class, I went to the ALDI store in Anderson to make a purchase and to get some
observations. I ended up buying some Kraft cheese and FitoBit water. The water was some kind of
fitness water with low sodium; it didn t taste so well. I ve never been nor shopped out of ALDI so this
definitely was an eye opener to me. As I walked in, I noticed the store was very small and cluttered.
Everything was stacked on top of each other and very close with barely any walking space. There
were no aisles to designate you to your product. You simply had to keep walking around to find what
you need; it was like looking for a needle in a haystack. As I can continue to walk through out the
store, I noticed some designs on packages that looked similar to Chips Ahoy, but it was not that brand.
It was a lower level brand with a similar design. They even had packages that look like it could be
Oreos, Quakers, Kraft and more. The name of the brand that ALDI have mainly in its stores is Benton

The Importance of a Kindergarten Teacher
Kindergarten children thrive when they can work independently and cooperatively with a small group

The Effects Of Digital Etiquette In The Digital Age
Digital etiquette is a modern variation of the old adage treat others the way you want to be treated
(Behrens, n.d.) . This is an important yet difficult lesson to teach children in the digital age because
they spend less time participating in face to face encounters and more time behind a screen. In fact
children ages 8 18 spend approximately 7.5 hours using technology and social media (New Research,
2014). What makes this lesson so difficult is the fact that because children spend so much time behind
a screen interacting with people, they spend less time reading people s emotions and seeing how their
words affect other people. In fact, many adults struggle to come to this realization as well. Based on
my own personal experience on social media, many adults still react to situations they come across
online emotionally and do not necessarily think about what they are posting and how their words
affect the people that are reading them. This is evident with the amount of arguments that occur
mostly in the comment section on social media. In fact, social media is an excellent source of poor
digital etiquette with all of the fights, swearing, and belittling of others that occurs on these platforms
(Digital Etiquette, 2008). This is largely because of the misinterpretations that can happen when
communicating digitally verses communicating face to face. It is difficult to interpret the context from
which someone is speaking. It is essential that adults slow down with their

Molecular and Cellular Behavior
Signal transduction pathways link signal reception with cellular response
Signal transduction pathways regulate what occurs in, between, and amid individual cells. They are
incredibly crucial because they initiate large responses beginning with a single signal. These chemical
signals are called ligands that enter the cell either through active or passive transport. If the ligand is
small and nonpolar (such as nitric oxide, oxygen gas, and carbon dioxide), then it will simply diffuse
through the cell membrane and will attach to an intracellular receptor. However, if the ligand does not
fit into this category it will attach to a membrane receptor. These ligands are specific to each receptor.
This ensures that no ligand will bind to an incorrect receptor. Once a receptor is bound, a signal is
transduced in a way that the cell can acknowledge it. Signal transduction pathways will fundamentally
affect gene expression, change enzyme or protein activity, and possibly cell death.
Membrane Receptors
Membrane receptors span the membrane of the cell. Since hydrophilic molecules cannot simply
diffuse through the cells to send a signal to the cell, they must attach to these receptors to be able to
send a signal inside the cell.
Ligand Gated Ion channel receptor
Specific signal molecules open and close ion channel receptors that permit the passing of ions in and
out of the cell. These ions include Na+, K+, Ca2+, or Cl , necessary for sending chemical signals.

Compare To His Coy Mistress And To The Virgins To Make...
To his Coy Mistress and To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time
Carpe diem is a Latin term used in literature, the use of this term presses readers to seize the moment.
In the chosen poems, the authors mainly try to pursue women, by letting them know that they have
true physical beauty and should take advantage of their good looks while it lasts. The word carpe diem
impacts both poems, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick, and To His Coy
Mistress by Andrew Marvell. In Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time, he describes
carpe diem by citing the shortness of life and by trying to persuade young women to marry and enjoy
their youth at its advantage before death. In the poem To His Coy Mistress , Marvell explains more
traits of carpe diem by persuading a certain woman in being his wife. To persuade her he used
examples of time and age fading her beauty and how it will leave her with nothing once they re gone.
Both poems compare to each other by persuading to seize moments before old age and beauty
disappears.
Herrick s To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time fits the meaning of carpe diem by encouraging the
beauty of youth and life itself. His calm and moralizing approach from the personal environment ...

woman who is divorced, has three children, and does not work due to her behavior. Twelve years ago
she began thinking she had a bug infestation in her skin. She says that although she has never actually

referred by a dermatologist after there was no physical evidence of a medical skin condition.

Diagnoses
Given all of the information above, it is determined that, according to the DSM V, Ms. W has a
Delusional Disorder. In order to treat this disorder, a DSM V diagnosis is needed (Comer, 2014).
Diagnoses: Delusional Disorder, Depression Severity Rating: 4, 4 Additional Information: Medical

inappropriate affects, individuals with Delusional Disorder have persistent delusions, but they are not
bizarre and not due to Schizophrenia. In addition, individuals with this disorder tend to be jealous,
grandiose, and experience somatic delusions. Ms. W fits the Delusional Disorder profile because she
has the somatic symptoms along with the delusion of the bug infestation. It is also important to note
that Ms. W is experiencing suffering and maladaptiveness, which are the two most important criteria
used for making a mental health diagnosis. These two symptoms are notably observed in her physical

Narrative Analysis Of Rear Window By Alfred Hitchcock

Narrative Analysis Paper
MCS 273 Rear Window (1955) Alfred Hitchcock s 1954 film, Rear Window, explores many
dimensions in cinematography. The phenomenal film is well known for proclaiming its voyeurism
issues that goes on in today s society. Even though voyeurism is an act that should not be done, this
film portrays it in an affirmative way. Rear Window introduces primary structural components in the
first act which sets the mood for the audience to interact with J.B. Jefferies in a way as it is the
audiences duty to help him solve the mystery on whether Thorwald murdered his wife or not. The
opening images of Rear Window introduces the audience to J.B. Jefferies apartment with the window
curtains rising. The camera is facing outside the window which reveals the small courtyard. After the
camera gives the audience a tour of the courtyard, it then shows us Jeff sleeping on his wheel chair.
From this, the audience should be able to perceive there is no privacy at all for the neighbors. What
one does, everyone is able to see (only if they are observing). The music in the beginning sets the
mood, the audience should feel safe and mellow as if nothing bad is going to happen. There is not one
suspicion which tells the audience there will be a murder case throughout this film. With that in mind,
the theme is portrayed through Jeff s perspective from his observation of the neighbors. He observes
the love life of his neighbors while he is questioning his own

Nature Is at the Heart of ‘the Darkling Thrush’ and...
Nature is at the heart of The Darkling Thrush and most of Hardy s most famous poems.
Hardy is a renowned rural poet which suggests that he has a keen interest and knowledge of nature.
However, this is not to say that nature is at the heart at every one of his most famous poems it is
sometimes merely a backdrop for other themes, such as war, fate and lost love. Hardy explores human
nature in Drummer Hodge , the downward spiral of mankind using Channel Firing and romantic grief
in The Voice . In my opinion this statement implies that all of Hardy s most famous works are
connected to nature. However, such a prolific poet cannot be labelled with such an absolute statement.

Although Hardy has no personal experience of war or the South African landscape, he uses jargon,
Karoo and kopje crest to set the scene, and reveals the horror of war when Hodge is thrown uncoffined
just as found to grow to some Southern tree . The alliteration of strange stars emphasises Hodge s
ignorance of the cause for which he has died. Drummer Hodge is a prime example of how Hardy
employs the theme of nature in a less obvious way, something which features in several of his most
famous works. In conclusion, it is clear that as Hardy employs such a wide variety of topics in his
poetry, it is extremely difficult to provide an overview for his work. This is not to say Hardy was not a
rural poet; in some of his works, such as Weathers , he focuses entirely on the world he sees around
him. Chestnut spikes , nestlings fly and meadow rivulets overflow reveal Hardy s skill at providing
snapshots of the natural world. Nevertheless, in most of Hardy s most famous poems there are
significant underlying themes which are apparent in the texts above. There is no one stereotype under
which Hardy can be classified; the reader must bear this in mind when analysing his poetry, and look
more deeply into his works rather than only exploring the surface

The Doctrine Of Utilitarianism Essays
The Doctrine of Utilitarianism Utilitarianism is a doctrine that revolves around two concepts:
happiness and consequentialism. It follows the Greatest Happiness Principle which is, The creed
which accepts as the foundation of morals, Utility, or the Greatest Happiness Principle, holds that
actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the
reverse of happiness (Mill 239). Utilitarianists most vast idea is creating the greatest happiness for the
greatest number of people and to end pain and suffering with this principle by using Utilitarian
Calculus. In Utilitarian Calculus, one would analyze the situation and as long as the action has a
greater positive effect (more happiness) overall than a negative effect (pain and suffering) then the act
is moral. Singer had many arguments when it comes to animal rights and speciesism. Singer defines
speciesists as individuals who give greater weight to the interests of members of their own species
when there is a clash between their interests and the interests of those of other species. Human
speciesists do not accept that pain is as bad when it is felt by pigs or mice as when it is felt by humans
(Singer Equality). Singer s main point when explaining animal rights is that equality does not require
equal rights. Singer believes it is unrealistic and irrational to compare a dying mouse to a dying person
because they do not have equal rights and situations in life. He states, It

There are implications regarding production and distribution of media content to a public audience. In
the media, as in any industry, big corporations play a vital role, but so do small, emerging ones. When
you lose small businesses, you lose big ideas. People who own their own businesses are their own
bosses. They are independent thinkers. They know they can t compete by imitating the big guys they
have to in novate, so they re less obsessed with earnings than they are with ideas. They are quicker to
seize on new technologies and new product ideas. They steal market share from the big companies,
spurring them to adopt new approaches. This process promotes competition, which leads to higher
product and service quality, more jobs, and greater wealth. It s called capitalism (Ted Turner). Today,
the only way for media companies to survive is to own everything up and down the media chain (Ted
Turner). I believe that conglomerates thrive better when they aren t in the hands of many, because the
idea of the company can get changed into something it was not intended to be. With more people in
the ownership, ideas can flow and possibly broaden the company, but I feel that too many people are
unnecessary. In the sense of large companies, many advisors may be needed. The

Just like many keyboard designs that utilize the letter or word frequencies to layout their keys, we
want to utilize the blocks frequencies. To accomplish this, we looked for Blockly programs sources.
Code Studio, a website offering online courses created by Code.org, is used by millions of students
[14]. It relies heavily on Blockly to teach programming concepts. Therefore, we choose it as a
reference for Blockly programs. We counted the frequency of each block that was asked to be input in
all the offered activities. However, if the activity asks the users to input less than 10 blocks we did not
include that activity in the statistics. We chose not to include such activities because they have few
blocks that do not represent a common block base program. Commonly, an activity with few blocks
just teaches how to input blocks rather than teaching programming concepts or problems solving. This
left us with 47 Blockly programs from courses 2,3, and 4. We found that the average input task
consists of 19 blocks. Table I shows the frequency of block types. The Code Studio activities did not

  • 2. Naked Egg Lab Experiment Naked Egg Lab Frances Jose Redmond High School Biology, Period 3 Mrs. Sinclair 7 November 2014 Introduction The objective of the Naked Egg Lab is to soak the egg in a solution and determine if that solution is isotonic, hypertonic, or hypotonic in relation to the egg. A solution is a mixture of two or more substances in which the molecules of the substances are evenly distributed (Miller/Levine 2000). The substances in a solution are solutes, the substance that is dissolved (Miller/Levine 2000), and solvents, the substance in which the solute dissolves (Miller/Levine 2000). In this case, the egg will be put in a salt water solution, where salt is the solute and water is the solvent. This lab is looking for three different types of solutions; isotonic, hypertonic, and hypotonic. An isotonic solution is when the concentration of two solutions is the same (Miller/Levine 2000). When a solution has a higher concentration of solutes than the solution on the other side of the membrane, it is hypertonic. Hypotonic solutions are the opposite, and have a lesser concentration of solutes than the solution on the other side of the membrane. Diffusion is the process by which molecules tend to move from an area where they are more concentrated to an area ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the shell is finally gone, the egg will be placed in the salt water solution. Since only water can move in and out of the egg, the semipermeable membrane allows for an exploration for the concepts of diffusion and osmosis (Ryczkowski 2014). If the solution is hypotonic, the egg s mass (quantitative data) will increase because the water will pass from an area with high concentration (water), to an area with low concentration (egg). It is predicted that the egg will gain mass and look larger (qualitative data) because of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Baumrind Parenting Style Parenting Styles Hanna Lagman Los Angeles Harbor College Abstract Parenting styles play an important role in a child s development. Diana Baumrind identified four parenting styles: authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, and neglectful. According to Baumrind, the authoritative style works best. In order to understand parenting practices in other cultures, Mexican families and Caucasian Non Hispanic families will be compared. It is hypothesized that the Mexican families utilize the authoritarian parenting style, while the Caucasian Non Hispanic parents utilize authoritative parenting style. All families were given a questionnaire to compare the parent s parental practices across two cultural groups. It was anticipated that the families would differ in parental styles; however, there were no differences between the parenting styles within the cultural groups. Parenting Styles Developmental Theory In 1971, Diana Baumrind categorized different parenting styles by observing middle class parents interacting with their children (Belsky, 2010, p. 201). Baumrind s parenting styles influence the field of child development and have been widely cited. In her research, she developed four parenting styles: authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, and neglectful. They are analyzed by two factors: responsiveness and demandingness. Parental responsiveness refers to how parents respond to the child s needs. Parental demandingness refers to the parent s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Training Period: 15.05.2014 To 06.06.2014 Guided By: Mr. Rahul Deo Tiwari ( Engineer) Submitted to: Submitted By: Naleeni Ramawat Nikhil Dev Tiwari (Acting Head) ABSTRACT Cold storages form the most important element for proper storage and distribution of wide variety of perishables, especially fruits and vegetables. According to a rough estimate 25% of fruits and vegetables worth crores of rupees are spoiled every year for want of adequate post harvest technologies including cold storages. It is therefore necessary that cold storages are to be constructed in major producing as well as consuming centers. Since there is no cultivation of generally cold stored items like apple, oranges, chilly etc. in some states. The demand of off seasonal vegetables and fruits are very much, so the consumption of these type of vegetables and fruits are very high. The most obvious losses after harvest are caused by mechanical injury, decay and aging. Losses in moisture, vitamins, sugars and starches are less obvious, but they adversely affect quality and nutrition. Rough handling and holding at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Deregulation And Lack Of Supervision Additionally, reasons for most of the major crises were deregulation and lack of supervision. Until recently, such complex products like derivatives were unsupervised as they were not directly connected to the deposits. A change in regulation is one of the problems which arises for structured products. For example decision of government to decrease use of non standardised or opaquely priced financial products. The aim of such action is to attract attention of structured products users to the need of covering externalities placed by such instruments. Moreover, crises are considered to be consequences of several negative economic indicators, however this is not correct for the 2007 crisis, which happened during the period of high and stable growth rate and low inflation. Due to a strong connection between financial markets, the crisis spread fast globally. This showed that even well developed economic system can experience damageable drops. As a countermeasure, in developed countries, governments set their monetary policies to stimulate industrial output and recover financial markets. 4.2. Structured Products are to Blame Structured products are blamed for playing important role in the 2007 crisis. The securitisation process changed the way banks operate as the originate to hold model replaced by the fee driven originate to distribute model. New operating model helped banks reduce maturity mismatch for assets and liabilities. However, such products are not transparent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Conical Hat Definition The thoughts about ceramic shape s history gave me a ground to be able to create the Conical Hat series works, and the investigation of conical hat provides the depth of my work. However, it still has lots of space for my personal concepts and understandings in this series of work. According to those studies on object and shapes, my central idea can be concluded into just one word which is container . I view the Conical Hat series are containers. Then, what is the container? Container is a Middle English word. It comes from contain with er. It is a noun which means anything that contains or can contain according to The Macquarie Dictionary. In The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary, container appears as a word under the explanation of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beyond to describe different kinds of containers, the act to be a container can mean something else and worth to think about it. Being a container can be seen as taking the role of protection, storage or transportation. Different container can have different roles. It gives container a character that can be classified. Besides, from the other side of this idea, after a container been found, the act afterwards also be assigned. It is like when you found a jar, what you put in it will give the jar its value. Or like, you give different values to the same jar than other people did to it. According to the analysis of container, there are two levels of how my Conical Hat series links to the concept of the container. First, conical hat is a kind of container. Second, conical hat is a container of emotion. Conical hat is the container is the direct connection. From geometric sense, conical hat is a hollow cone shape, which enables it could contain something in it. • 9. Critism in Plato What is life? This is the one question that to this day still cannot be answered. Over the years millions of people have had there own interpretation of what is means to live. However the quest to answer this rhetorical question goes back to the golden days of Greek civilization when the worlds greatest philosophers first attempted to find the answers to this question. As his position takes form in the Republic, Plato claims that only a very few individuals are capable of understanding how human life is to be lived. If it could be done, the rest of us would be best off it we were to let out lives be controlled by such individuals . This position held by Plato has been one of much discussion and disagreement over the years. In this paper I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also you can t blame him because as it is visible in the Republic, Thrasymachus says, I declare justice is nothing but the advantage of the stronger . All that this quote basically incorporates is that justice is nothing to normal people but in essence it s just an advantage to those people who are rulers and are stronger than the ordinary people. He brings up a great point stating that when robbery and violence are practiced by normal people its considered injustice, however when this is practiced by mass or most often by rulers or those in charge its considered justice. Since the rulers themselves do not obey the principles that they impose on the citizens, they are themselves unjust . Because of this the tyrant himself is happy because he breaks the rules of justice that he imposes on the weak people below him. When you are allowing yourself to be governed and controlled by someone else rather than yourself it is not justice it s basically considered slavery. These are all the ideas brought upon by Thrasymachus in the Republic. However on the other hand in Book I of the Republic Plato s mentor Socrates tries and contests Thrasymachus ideas. Socartes brings up a great point in saying that if the weak themselves were strong enough to prevent someone from becoming a tyrant then they themselves are strong meaning they don t need help. Socartes basically insists that a lot of the power of the man has to do with his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Examples Of Irony In The Cask Of Amontillado In the story Cask of Amontillado Fortunato and Montresor walked thru the vaults in search of Amontillado in what appeared to Fortunato as nothing more than a friendly encounter. Montresor states, As you are engaged, I am on my way to Luchesi. If any one has a critical turn, it is he. He will tell me Fortunato states, Luchesi cannot tell Amontillado from Sherry. Let us go (237). As they continue their descent further into the vault, Montresor notices Fortunato excessively coughing and says, Come, we will go back; your health is precious. You are rich, respected, admired, beloved; you are happy, as once I was. You are a man to be missed. For me it is no matter. We will go back; you will be ill, and I cannot be responsible (238). One must believe that at that very moment, he knew these actions would catch up to him in a major way. In The Cask of Amontillado , the author uses irony to expand on his theme of a man who seeks freedom through revenge on another man. In this story, irony is seen when Montresor and Fortunato meet at the carnival event, on the descent into the vault, and when Montresor punished Fortunato and is also being punished in return. Montresor now knows his eternity will be in the gates of Hell as his punishment for seeking revenge and punishing Fortunato. The final sentence of the story is a statement made by Montresor, In pace requiescat! (240). This is translated to May he rest in peace. • 12. The Influence Of Friday Night Lights On Football Culture The main idea of this paper is to introduce you to what really happens as a high school athlete and the things you learn along the way. High school sports is way more than just playing the sport, it shows you what you are really made of and how to handle problems life is going to throw at you. The adversity you face as an athlete carries over to real world problems and you have been there and done that, so handling adversity is second nature. This information comes from all my coaches, myself and Friday Night Lights. I feel I have already grown as a person by competing in athletics and calling other people my brothers. Not only does high school athletics help you in the long run, but it helps you with problems you have now. High school sports ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It showed everyone s problems and how they handle those problems. In some cases like the star quarterback Brian who was paralyzed from the waist down, showed how he handle that major obstacle by himself. Rarely did Friday Night Lights show the coach, players, or family support him. In real life football culture the star quarterback who was paralyzed would get endless amounts of support. Not only from his family, but his football family too. The football family along with his real family would be there with him through all the ups and downs. Not just for a month, but for his whole life. Football culture creates a bond that can never be broken and Friday Night Lights did a bad job of showing that truth, but in other cases, Friday Night Lights did an amazing job by showing the truth of football culture by how they handle adversity. Adversity is everywhere and can hit you at any time of the day and any day in the year. As adversity hit the star Running Back Dash, he folded it up and called it quits. He was going to be a gangster and play the streets game, but something changed inside of Dash. After the abuse charges and numerous of injuries he could not quit, he worked harder than he has ever worked before. He pushed himself to the limit and got that scholarship he dreamed of getting. You might ask what changed inside of Dash, and that answer is his coach. His coach walked to his house and told him how it was, he saw great talent and a great young man. All Dash needed was a reminder and throughout all the problems that have been explained in this paper you always need that back bone of advice and Friday Night Lights did a fantastic job of proving that. • 14. Compare And Contrast The Southern Colonies And The New... There are more differences amongst all the colonies than there are similarities. Two colonies that will be discussed are the New England Colonies and The Southern Colonies. These two colonies are on opposite ends of one another and have different obstacles they deal with daily. They both practice religion; however one worships more than the other and the religious beliefs in the two are different. Weather is hard to deal with in both colonies as they struggle differently; New England s weather is brutally cold and The Southern Colonies deal with humid heat. The weather is a large factor when it comes to their ways of the land and crops that are able to grow. New England was founded in 1630 by Pilgrims. The layout of the land was mostly made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Farming in the New England colonies was a challenge. Due to the cold, long, and harsh winters, the growing season was very short. The soil was also rocky, so farmers had to take all the rocks out of the ground before planting. Due to these shortcomings, the farmers in the New England colonies only farmed enough for their family, themselves, and their farm animals (Diamond). Due to this issue, they didn t have much need for slaves because of the lack of crops. They also couldn t afford slaves because for one they didn t have enough work to keep them busy and two they didn t have enough crops to share. At first, the south also relied on the forests and the water, but tobacco and cotton later emerged as cash crops. Initially these crops were harvested by indentured servants, but with the growth of plantations, planters started to import slaves from Africa (Rosenzweig). So the opposite goes for The Southern Colonies; they needed slaves to help with the large lands they owned. Communities grew around seasonal beach attendance because it was an affordable place for adventure after the Depression. When transportation improvements made the beaches accessible to the inland communities, swimmers entered the surf zone. In Southern California drownings increased on a massive scale. For example, in the early 1900 s Newport Beach experienced 18 drownings in one weekend. In 1918, 13 people drowned in San Diego in one day. Lifeguard services were modeled after east coast lifeguard operations. Swim lines or lifelines were attached to shore. However, struggling swimmers were not always able to hold onto them. Row boats(dory boats), the rescue paddle board, and throw lines were used. Swimming rescues were the last resort due. • 16. Definition Of Wisdom In Fahrenheit 451 There are many definitions of wisdom but one of the best understanding I have received is that wisdom is knowledge gained through suffering. Elaine Heath This quote from Elaine Heath and Larry Duggins book Missional.Monastic.Mainline. mentioned what I thought of as the quintessential definition of wisdom. Through effort and sacrifice, one can attain pearls of wisdom such as freedom can t be bought cheap, it s better to die with knowledge than to live in ignorance, and ignorance is bliss only for those whose minds are vacant of the veracity of facts. Freedom is the foundation of western democracies and the fundamental argument that people have the unalienable right to live as they choose and it is undeniable that freedom can t be bought cheap. This is true since freedom is the reason for the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, etc.In Fahrenheit 451, the value of freedom is illustrated in Montag s conversation with Mildred after he witnessed the immolation of the old lady where he verbalizes his frustration by saying There must be something in books, things we can t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. (Bradbury 48) In this quote, we can see that the lady choose to stay with her books, a symbol of freedom and knowledge, which emphasized the idea that freedom is worth giving one s life to protect. Dave Barry s anecdote A Couple Of Really Nice Guys is a high level of comedy that uses a personal issue and exaggerates it to reveal universal truth about littering. The author uses comic characters/caricatures and hyperboles. First, the author used a lot of hyperboles. For example, on page 326, I HATE littering. I hate it when you go to a park or the beach and the day is suddenly destroyed by the arrival of The Picnic People from Hell. This situation was exaggerated with humor to express the narrator s hatred for littering. When a person litters, Captain Tidy comes swooping out of nowhere and explains to the litterer, in polite terms, that he or she is being a jerk. Captain Tidy is a caricature in this passage. He is a character that the narrator made up so he could have some fun but also tell people to pick up their trash. The narrator and his friend would dress up in their costumes and go out in public to stop people from littering. The reason why Captain Tidy is considered a caricature is because he is a made up character. Another example of a caricature is on page 326, But if I knew that if Captain Tidy had a SIDEKICK, a LARGE sidekick, a large, TRAINED OPTOMETRIST sidekick, that would be a whole different story. This is an important yet difficult lesson to teach children in the digital age because they spend less time participating in face to face encounters and more time behind a screen. In fact children ages 8 18 spend approximately 7.5 hours using technology and social media (New Research, 2014). What makes this lesson so difficult is the fact that because children spend so much time behind a screen interacting with people, they spend less time reading people s emotions and seeing how their words affect other people. In fact, many adults struggle to come to this realization as well. Based on my own personal experience on social media, many adults still react to situations they come across online emotionally and do not necessarily think about what they are posting and how their words affect the people that are reading them. This is evident with the amount of arguments that occur mostly in the comment section on social media. In fact, social media is an excellent source of poor digital etiquette with all of the fights, swearing, and belittling of others that occurs on these platforms (Digital Etiquette, 2008). This is largely because of the misinterpretations that can happen when communicating digitally verses communicating face to face. • 28. Molecular and Cellular Behavior Signal transduction pathways link signal reception with cellular response Signal transduction pathways regulate what occurs in, between, and amid individual cells. They are incredibly crucial because they initiate large responses beginning with a single signal. These chemical signals are called ligands that enter the cell either through active or passive transport. If the ligand is small and nonpolar (such as nitric oxide, oxygen gas, and carbon dioxide), then it will simply diffuse through the cell membrane and will attach to an intracellular receptor. However, if the ligand does not fit into this category it will attach to a membrane receptor. These ligands are specific to each receptor. This ensures that no ligand will bind to an incorrect receptor. Once a receptor is bound, a signal is transduced in a way that the cell can acknowledge it. Signal transduction pathways will fundamentally affect gene expression, change enzyme or protein activity, and possibly cell death. Membrane Receptors Membrane receptors span the membrane of the cell. Since hydrophilic molecules cannot simply diffuse through the cells to send a signal to the cell, they must attach to these receptors to be able to send a signal inside the cell. Ligand Gated Ion channel receptor Specific signal molecules open and close ion channel receptors that permit the passing of ions in and out of the cell. To his Coy Mistress and To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time Carpe diem is a Latin term used in literature, the use of this term presses readers to seize the moment. In the chosen poems, the authors mainly try to pursue women, by letting them know that they have true physical beauty and should take advantage of their good looks while it lasts. The word carpe diem impacts both poems, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick, and To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell. In Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time, he describes carpe diem by citing the shortness of life and by trying to persuade young women to marry and enjoy their youth at its advantage before death. In the poem To His Coy Mistress , Marvell explains more traits of carpe diem by persuading a certain woman in being his wife. To persuade her he used examples of time and age fading her beauty and how it will leave her with nothing once they re gone. Both poems compare to each other by persuading to seize moments before old age and beauty disappears. Drummer Hodge is a prime example of how Hardy employs the theme of nature in a less obvious way, something which features in several of his most famous works. In conclusion, it is clear that as Hardy employs such a wide variety of topics in his poetry, it is extremely difficult to provide an overview for his work. This is not to say Hardy was not a rural poet; in some of his works, such as Weathers , he focuses entirely on the world he sees around him. Chestnut spikes , nestlings fly and meadow rivulets overflow reveal Hardy s skill at providing snapshots of the natural world. Nevertheless, in most of Hardy s most famous poems there are significant underlying themes which are apparent in the texts above. There is no one stereotype under which Hardy can be classified; the reader must bear this in mind when analysing his poetry, and look more deeply into his works rather than only exploring the surface ... If you dig deep enough, information can be found about what Area 51 is, theories surrounding this odd place, stories from a retired scientist, a possibly even more odd and mysterious building nearby, and, the oddest part about this place, its residents. Area 51 has some interesting history. It is located in southern Nevada, some what near Las Vegas. Officially, it is a United States Air Force Facility and is an extended branch of the Edwards Air Force Base. The primary purpose of this base has not been revealed to the public. • 35. The Doctrine Of Utilitarianism Essays The Doctrine of Utilitarianism Utilitarianism is a doctrine that revolves around two concepts: happiness and consequentialism. It follows the Greatest Happiness Principle which is, The creed which accepts as the foundation of morals, Utility, or the Greatest Happiness Principle, holds that actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness (Mill 239). Utilitarianists most vast idea is creating the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people and to end pain and suffering with this principle by using Utilitarian Calculus. In Utilitarian Calculus, one would analyze the situation and as long as the action has a greater positive effect (more happiness) overall than a negative effect (pain and suffering) then the act is moral. Singer had many arguments when it comes to animal rights and speciesism. Singer defines speciesists as individuals who give greater weight to the interests of members of their own species when there is a clash between their interests and the interests of those of other species. Human speciesists do not accept that pain is as bad when it is felt by pigs or mice as when it is felt by humans (Singer Equality). Singer s main point when explaining animal rights is that equality does not require equal rights. Singer believes it is unrealistic and irrational to compare a dying mouse to a dying person because they do not have equal rights and situations in life. He states, It ... It is one of the largest media conglomerates in the world in terms of revenue. Disney was founded on October 16, 1923, by Walt and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio (SEGD 2014). Widely known and bringing in a lot of revenue, this company continues to grow. The Walt Disney Company, also known as Disney, is a multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate. There are implications regarding production and distribution of media content to a public audience. In the media, as in any industry, big corporations play a vital role, but so do small, emerging ones. When you lose small businesses, you lose big ideas. People who own their own businesses are their own bosses. They are independent thinkers. They know they can t compete by imitating the big guys they have to in novate, so they re less obsessed with earnings than they are with ideas. They are quicker to seize on new technologies and new product ideas. They steal market share from the big companies, spurring them to adopt new approaches. This process promotes competition, which leads to higher product and service quality, more jobs, and greater wealth. It s called capitalism (Ted Turner). Today, the only way for media companies to survive is to own everything up and down the media chain (Ted Turner). I believe that conglomerates thrive better when they aren t in the hands of many, because the idea of the company can get changed into something it was not intended to be. With more people in the ownership, ideas can flow and possibly broaden the company, but I feel that too many people are unnecessary. In the sense of large companies, many advisors may be needed. • 37. Nt1310 Section 2 Section 3 Section III A explains how the keyboard works while section III B describes the main iterations that led to the keyboard s final version. In section III C, some of the user interface design principles that helped to fine tune the keyboard design are mentioned. A. How Does It Work The keyboard works like text entry keyboards, however, instead of inputting letters it inputs blocks. Each key inputs a block or changes a field. Version 3 in figure 1 shows the current layout of the keyboard. Once a block is inserted, the keyboard selects and highlights the first unoccupied input connector. The arrow keys allow navigating the blocks through their connectors by highlighting them. The keyboard s keys will be enabled or disabled according to the highlighted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just like many keyboard designs that utilize the letter or word frequencies to layout their keys, we want to utilize the blocks frequencies. To accomplish this, we looked for Blockly programs sources. Code Studio, a website offering online courses created by Code.org, is used by millions of students [14]. It relies heavily on Blockly to teach programming concepts. Therefore, we choose it as a reference for Blockly programs. We counted the frequency of each block that was asked to be input in all the offered activities. However, if the activity asks the users to input less than 10 blocks we did not include that activity in the statistics. We chose not to include such activities because they have few blocks that do not represent a common block base program. Commonly, an activity with few blocks just teaches how to input blocks rather than teaching programming concepts or problems solving. This left us with 47 Blockly programs from courses 2,3, and 4. We found that the average input task consists of 19 blocks. Table I shows the frequency of block types. The Code Studio activities did not ask the students to input all the block types in Blockly as can be noticed from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
