THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD
The steps scientists follow to make tests
1) Observe
2) Ask questions
3) Research
(gather information)
4) Make a Hypothesis
(guess)
5) Make an Experiment
6) Conclusion
A PASTA PROBLEM
 Grade 2 wants to cook some pasta, but there are 2
shapes and they don’t know how much cooking time
will it take .
 How will they think as scientists to solve this
problem ?
(1) OBSERVE
 What you see.
 Example:
I see 2 different shapes of pasta.
(2) ASK A QUESTION
 What you want to know.
 Example:
which shape will be cooked faster ????
(3) GATHER INFORMATION
 search for information to find my answer .
 Example:
•Small pasta is cooked faster than large pasta. k
4) HYPOTHESIS (GUESS)
I think that the animal pasta
will be cooked faster
because it’s smaller.
5) EXPERIMENT
Let’s make an experiment to
see if our hypothesis was
right or wrong !
LET’S COOK THEM IN THE LAB AND SEE
Pasta shape spiral shape animal shape
Time taken to be
cooked. 14 minutes 10 minutes
(6) CONCLUSION
 The answer to the question
 Example:
Yes !! Your hypothesis was right, the animal
pasta was cooked faster !
