6. Active and Passive Voice
Active Voice
In most English sentences with an action
verb, the subject performs the action denoted
by the verb or the subject is doing the verb's
action.
Because the subject does or "acts upon" the
verb in such sentences, the sentences are said
to be in the active voice.

It means the little girl (subject) is doing the
eating (verb).

10. Passive Voice
Passive voice is the opposite of active.
Passive voice indicates that the subject is the
patient or recipient of the action denoted by the
verb.
e. g. The ice cream is eaten by the little girl.
The letter was written by the girl.
The book is being read by the boy.

1. The object of the active sentence becomes
the subject of the passive sentence.
2. The verb is changed (to be + past participle).
3. The subject of the active sentence becomes
the object of the passive sentence (or is
dropped if unnecessary).
