ATA/PATA/ATAPI/IDE connectors were standards created in 1986 to connect storage devices like hard disks inside PCs. There were 34-pin, 40-pin, and 80-pin ATA cable variants, with the 80-pin version also called Ultra DMA. Cable connectors were color coded with blue for the motherboard, gray for slave drives, and black for master drives. SCSI was an alternative interface introduced in 1979 and used for RAID, using internal ribbon cables with 68-pin or 50-pin connectors or external shielded cables. SATA was created in 2003 to replace PATA, offering 1.5-3 Gbit/s serial speeds to eventually replace the older PATA/IDE
