Computer systems use various ports to connect peripheral devices. Ports are located on both the front and rear of the computer. Serial ports transfer data one bit at a time and are used to connect modems, while parallel ports transfer multiple bits at a time and connect printers and hard disks. Video ports like VGA, DVI, HDMI connect monitors. PS/2 ports connect keyboards and mice, Ethernet ports connect the computer to a network, and audio ports input and output sound. Additional ports include eSATA for external hard disks and USB ports which can replace serial, parallel and PS/2 ports to connect various peripherals using a single standard.
