This document discusses using a systems thinking and participatory design approach for service robotics. It addresses agriculture as a complex problem with many interrelated factors. A systems approach views a farm as nested subsystems from robots, crops, and harvest to the urban and farming environments. Participatory design engages users to understand needs and allows for adaptivity, customization and emergent behaviors as an autonomous system. The goal is to codesign robotic services that address challenges in sustainable, productive farming.
