The Terminator By James Cameron
The Terminator was written by James Cameron and came out in 1984.1 It tells of a post apocalyptic
world dominated by a war between humans and artificially intelligent robots, called terminators. The
movie was produced at the beginning of the Digital Age, and computer development and use was
beginning to increase. Computer companies like Apple and Microsoft had recently been founded and
some of the first personal computers were being created. Many wondered if society was becoming too
dependent of technology . In addition to computers, all forms of technology were rapidly improving
during this time period. The Terminator predicts that the relationship between man and computer turns
bad when the computer is given too much power. Ultimately, mankind creates its own downfall.
Furthermore, the terminator is seen as superior to the human characters in the movie. The Terminator
has no feelings of pain, anger, remorse, or any other kind of emotions. It seems to be a flawless killer,
unmatched by its weak creators. The Terminator embodies people s fears of the advancement of
technology and its impact on society.
The Terminator takes place over the course of a week in the 1980s in an unknown town. The movie is
about a robot (a terminator ) that goes back in time to kill a woman named Sarah Connor and a man
named Kyle Reese who tries to save her. The terminator begins to systematically kill women named
Sarah Connor in the city the movie takes place in. The terminator finds the right

Better Off Friends Character Analysis
Imagine moving from Los Angeles, California to a small town in Wisconsin and not knowing anyone
at the new school. Anyone in this situation would want to make friends that would accept them in the
new town. This is the position Levi, one of the main characters in Elizabeth Eulberg s Better off
Friends, is in when he starts middle school. Macallan, the other main character, is the person that
befriends Levi, and they become very close very fast. Being a new kid from down south, many people
stereotype Levi because of how he looks and the way he acts, which was normal in Los Angeles where
he used to live, but odd to the people in Wisconsin. For this reason the boys at school did not really
want to hang out with Levi, and that is why he and Macallan become such good friends in a short
amount of time. The two of them could find a lot that they had in common, even though they were
from completely different places. Macallan and Levi were together a lot, so when they hung out just
the two of them, people would think they were dating when they were not. This is the second
stereotype addressed in the book; a boy and a girl that spend lots of time together do not have to be a
boyfriend and a girlfriend. Throughout middle school and high school, they were constantly asked if
they were dating, when they were not. Therefore, in Better off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg, Eulberg
addresses stereotypes about where people come from and people of the opposite gender being just
friends. First

My Father Is A Second Generation
As anyone in America can relate, heritage and where we come from can construct our personality,
build our demeanor, and in some cases, determines who we are as people. It often amazes me when I
step foot into a class room, or go into a local bar, even walk down the street and see how many
different faces there are. In some aspect, when I look close enough, I can see dead people. Not dead as
in walking zombies, but a glimpse of the past ancestors that helped mold these individuals into the
people standing before me. With that in mind, when I look the mirror I can see who came before me
and through past stories I can feel the struggles that Italians felt as they crossed the ocean to become
Americans.
My father is a second generation Sicilian who grew up in East Lynn, and my mother is a second
generation Northern Italian, who grew up in West Lynn. One of the stories I often hear is how the
Italians and the Sicilians never really got along, and frequently butt heads. Naturally it was very
Romeo and Juliet like that they would end up together. When they become husband and wife my
mother had gone to the jewelers and had this pepper like charm created. This amulate is known as the
Italian Horn, or Cornicello . Although it is more known today, this charm was hard to come by and not
well known outside the Italian culture, and it helped bind the two families together as one. Every
culture has very different ways of doing things, and although Sicily is part of Italy, the two cultures

Article Analysis of Habits of Mind
In an article titled Habits of Mind: An Organizing Principle for Mathematics Curriculum (n.d.),
Cuoco, Goldenberg and Mark call for a new approach to designing mathematics curricula for the
future. As they point out, it is impossible to know all that the future holds: Past experience tells us that
today s first graders will graduate high school most likely facing problems that do not yet exist (Cuoco
et al., p. 1). Students have been taught mathematics in the same way for a long time, the authors claim.
Students have been given a bag of facts to use in their approach to problem solving. The bags have
changed according to newer or more fashionable ideas, substituting, for example, fractal geometry for
Euclidean geometry. The underlying pedagogy, however, has remained essentially the same. Cuoco et
al. assert that a much more effective approach to teaching mathematics facilitates students
development of habits of mind. Habits of mind are not the sole purview of mathematics; in fact,
learning how to think and how to approach problems in a variety of situations are useful skills in all
academic content areas as well as in life. For mathematics, Cuoco et al. suggest a number of habits of
mind that would ideally be cultivated in students. These include the ability to recognize patterns, to
experiment, to describe and defend conclusions, to tinker and to invent, to visualize, and to make
guesses and plausible conjectures. By developing these habits of mind, the

The Study of Birds and Bird Watching Information
Running Head: BIRDS AND BIRD WATCHING
Abstract
In this research paper about birds and bird watching it includes the learning of what exactly bird
watching is, the best places to bird watch in the world, where to find birds for bird watching, the
greatest time of year (seasons), as well as the worst time to consider bird watching, the many diverse
species of birds that you might see at the various different bird watching locations in the world, and
even the supplies needed while bird watching.

A pair of binoculars or a telescope makes the bird seem closer to you, making you able to see the close
up details of the bird. While on a bird watching trip, many people bring a pair of binoculars or a
telescope, sometimes even a bird guide. These bird guides will help you to spot and know what certain
bird species are. Although the majority of bird watchers are pretty well informed, a guide confirm
identification of birds spotted, and helps birders who may be traveling in land they haven t explored
before. Many bird watchers have a bird watching life list , which is a paper that they carry around that
helps them to keep up with the birds they have seen and the birds they haven t seen yet. Also, a sound
recorder would be helpful. Since it can be hard to identify some types of birds, you could record what
you hear and play it back later for identification by an expert. Extra gear that a bird watcher may find
to need include heavy weight boots for different land they aren t used to and layered clothes to help
deal with the changing weather. As for Florida, it s thought of as a birdwatcher s paradise. The
perfectly mild weather, location and diverse surroundings attract over 470 different species of birds.
Many experienced bird watchers suggest getting a field guide for the area where you would want to go
birding. A field guide is a booklet with images of the birds and guidelines for classifying them. After

A Night To Remember Essay
The RMS Titanic; A Tragedy Based on Class. In April, 1912, the so called quot;unsinkable quot;
Titanic set sail to New York. The great ship was as big as five city blocks, and weighed thousands and
thousands of tons. Everyone who was everyone grabbed a room on the luxurious ship for the trip of a
lifetime. On April 14, 1912, the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg an sank into the icy depths of the North
Atlantic.
People were shocked at the news of the quot;unsinkable quot; Titanic sinking and this disbelief was
due to the 19th Century s reliance on science and industry to solve problems. When people set eyes on
the most luxurious and biggest ship ever, they easily presumed it unsinkable. The Titanic, along with it
s size, had watertight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People who were sleeping were woken and people playing cards were disturbed. People close to the
collision could feel the vibration of the holes being punctured into the side of the ship.
Those on the deck could see the huge iceberg weighing thousands of tons pass by like a dark cloud of
death. Still, there was no panic. Many people just did not realize the severity of the crash at first. They
went along with their card games, their brandy drinking, and their socializing on deck. Some people
even played casually with the ice. When people realized that the iceberg had punctured the side of the
ship, still there was no panic.
Passengers relied on science and industry to keep them afloat. When the crew went from room to
room throwing life jackets at passengers and ordering them to put them on, this was considered as just
a precaution. Some passengers asked to have tea ready for them when the return to their rooms. When
people could see the Titanic was sinking, still there was no alarm.
People were asked to get into lifeboats and many refused. quot;We are safer here than in that little
boat, quot; remarked one passenger(A Night to Remember p. 43). Some people were securing their
stay on the Titanic after they get out of the lifeboats. quot; When you get back you ll need a pass.

Causes Of Jim Crow Laws
During the time period of 1877 1954 a set of laws called the Jim Crow laws were put in motion. They
were laws that made segregation in schools and public places legal. No white person or African
American could be doing anything together at anytime. These laws were against all of the African
Americans living in the southern states of the United States. I believe the main cause of this conflict
was to segregate the African Americans away from whites, just as if they were still slaves. White
people thought that they weren t the same as them just because of their race, color of their skin, or
culture and therefore shouldn t be treated the same. On April 12th, 1861, the Civil War started. The
main purpose of this war was to either end slavery or to keep it, depending on what side you were on
(according to ferris.edu). People in the South wanted slavery to keep going, but the people in the
North wanted to end it. After 620,000 casualties and four years of severe and cruel fighting the war
ended. There was no more slavery, the North had won. If the South had won the war there would
probably still be slavery, so they wouldn t have to make the Jim Crow Laws. This was the most
important factor for the laws. With them losing the war, now the people of the South had political,
economical and cultural reasons for these laws. Due to the fact that the South lost the war, there slaves
were now free and now had political freedom. Now the African Americans could run for political

Writing Styles Essay example
Writing Styles
In this essay I will be going into detail about three different writing styles used in health and social
care. I will also be comparing the writing styles against each other.
Persuasive Writing Persuasive writing is all about trying to get someone s attention on something.
Persuasive writing use s specific features which help the information used to become persuasive
towards the audience. This could include using present tense, using emotive language, using rhetorical
questions, making opinions sound like facts, as well as using powerful verbs and adjectives etc.
Persuasive writing can be linked and used in many different ways. One of the ways would include
health and social care. This could be linked by usage in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The journalist also always puts out a headline that would immediately get the audiences attention. The
headline is always the art of the journalist work, as they see this as an opportunity to sell their story;
headline could be short, snappy, and catchy. After the headline the journalist provides the audience
with a short paragraph which sums up the story, some see this as a short introduction. The journalist
does this to gain the audience interest. Most people know that a person s eyes are always sighted upon
small amounts of writing and imagery. So the short paragraph would make the audience show some
interest towards the story. In health and social care journalistic writing is used a lot, whether this is
about the stories about the NHS being published. Or when major illnesses or problems are coming. An
examp0le of this would be when we went through the period of swine flue; wine flue was making its
front page everywhere. This not only was a disaster but it was the journalists dream, as they new it
was a hot topic to write about as it would gain many peoples attention, this would also push the
journalists ratings up.
All three writing styles are different from each other in variety of ways. We see as persuasive language
as a main way to get the attention of someone, where as reflective language is where you speak about
what had happened through out the day. However journalistic writing talks about

Peptic Ulcer Disease and Pediatric Patients
PUD is not as common in pediatric patients when compared to adult incidences. The most common
cause of PUD in pediatrics is due to Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection (Guariso Gasparetto,
2012). Primitive ulcers, due to H. pylori, cause changes in the gastric or duodenal mucosa and alter
gastric function such as overproduction of HCl and pepsin, resulting in ulcer forming lesions (Guariso
Gasparetto, 2012). NSAIDs, stress and other extra gastric pathogenic events cause secondary ulcers
within the stomach. The underlying pathology of PUD is due to the reduction of prostaglandins that
serve as a protective mechanism on the gastric mucosa. Patients most commonly present with dull
stomach ache or pain usually after a meal. Gas, bloating, nausea and vomiting are some less common
symptoms. PUD, although rare when compared to adults, is reported worldwide in children and most
commonly identified as initiated by H. pylori infection and the use of NSAIDs occurring in the second
decade of life. Other events such as stress, shock, or major trauma can trigger acute ulcers in children
but there is a hereditary family history component that increases acid output and accelerates gastric
emptying in more than 20% of patients (Guariso Gasparetto, 2012). Although H. pylori infection is the
more common cause of PUD, the use of NSAIDs increases the risk of acquiring PUD (Guariso
Gasparetto, 2012).

The Role Of Settler Colonization And Its Negative...
In April 1995 Pamela George, an Ojibway women, was brutally murdered in Saskatchewan. Her
murderers Steven Kummerfield and Alex Ternowetsky, young middle class white men, were convicted
of manslaughter and sentenced to merely six and a half years in prison. George s story is one of the
many Indigenous women who have been murdered or missing over the past years. There are over 580
cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women, close to half are put aside and left unsolved. Only
53% of these cases have lead to charges of homicide (Klement 8). Drastically, statistics indicate that
Aboriginals are faced with more hardships throughout their life compared to the average Canadian.
Indigenous groups, particularly women, suffer from a lower rate of education, higher suicide rates and
an array of health risks. This paper will examine the role settler colonization history has played in
perpetuating conditions for violence to indigenous women, many of which are still experienced today.
This will be accomplished by first assessing the history of settler colonization and its negative
repercussions. Secondly, it will use Sherene Razak s concept of spatial segregation, to illustrate how
state institutions have facilitated violence through space, race and the law. Lastly, this paper will use
evidence from the film Finding Dawn to further demonstrate how violence towards indigenous women
is institutionally produced.
In the 16th century, French colonists arrived to Newfoundland

next decade, with 65 to 70 % of cancers expected to occur in the age group in the next 20 years.
However, finding out where best to reach baby boomers through digital technology will require a
different approach as: #1 fact: 57% percent of boomers may use social networking, but are also more
unlikely to use them regularly, and value their privacy while being less likely to share pictures or
personal information than younger people are (CNN, 2012). #1 Best Practice: While a baby boomer s
technological habits may be a bit more challenging, and their hair may be greying, they do not want to
be treated like crotchety old folks (Young, 2015). Visual focus should not reflect stereotypes of older
people. #2 fact: Older boomers may feel intimated and overwhelmed by new technology making them
less likely to embrace it. While 86% of boomers may have cellphones, only 29% have a smartphone.

Similarities Between The Greer And The Iliad
3. Homer is a poet that lived in the eighth century. He wrote many poems including the epic The Iliad
and The Odyssey. Both poems are imporant to history because they symbolize some type of lesson
learn. The Iliad was set at the end of the Trojan War which was is a very important war for the Greeks.
The assumptions of Odysseus being dead in the Trojan war shows us today that we can not jump to
conclusions.
4. A polis is a unit of measurement of a city. The Polis labled a full community. The different people
that were involved were the Athens, Sparta, and Thebes and others. The polis showed a political view
on life and showed how cities can be ran under a selected leader or king. The polis is important
because I feel it was a start to showing self goverments and institutions. It was showing that you as a
person had the power to elect your leader, and the city could be successful under one person.
5. A democracy is a governement where citizens get to elect peers to form a governing body. I think
the democracy is important because its allowing you to elect your leader. I think it is important to have
a governement body to control the community and to enforce laws. A repulic is where the
governement is a public matter . In a republic you are not authorized to inherit the city, you are
elected. An Oligarchy is when power is held within a small number of people. An oligarchy tends to

Swot Analysis Of Swissair
In the beginning of the 90s, Swissair had a functional and partly a divisional structure. The General
Executive Management was divided according to the different geographical markets: Intercontinental,
Europe I and Europe II. Besides, the other distinctions were finances, technology, human resources
and others.
Despite the saturated air transportation market, business grew especially in further participations of
Swissair, the so called SBAG. In 1991, the SBAG introduced a small holding staff to manage the
different shareholdings (SWISSAIR, 1992, pp. 5, 9, 26). Subsequently, the booming food service,
which still was the comparative advantage of Swissair in quality and service, were unified as Catering

In the year 1995, the pressure on small charter airlines such as Balair/CTA intensified. The expanding
substitutes combined with troublesome bilateral negotiations to overcome the EEA disadvantage,
forced them to give up their charter business and their fleets were integrated to Swissair and Crossair.
They still kept their own organizational structure and the CEO of Balair/CTA became part of the
General Executive Management (SWISSAIR, 1996, pp. 4, 15). During the same year, reorganization
started to take place in order to form an entirely new structure of the holding company throughout the
upcoming years. A steeper hierarchical order with four fundamental pillars was schemed: Flights ,
market and ground services , logistics and cargo and SBAG (SWISSAIR, 1995). These four pillars are
the forerunners for the division of Airline , Service , Cargo and Catering just one year after, which

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Mutual Funds
Introduction Of Mutual Funds A Mutual fund is a trust that pools the savings of a number of investors
who share a common financial goal. The money thus collected is invested by the fund manager in
different types of securities depending upon the objective of the scheme. These could range from
shares to debentures to money market instruments. The income earned through these investments and
the capital appreciations realized by the scheme are shared by its unit holders in proportion to the
number of units owned by the (pro rata). Thus a Mutual fund is the most suitable investment for the
common man as it offers an opportunity to invest in a diversified, professionally managed portfolio at
a relatively low cost. Anybody with an inventible surplus of as a few thousand rupees can invest in
Mutual Funds. Each Mutual Fund scheme has a defined investment objective and strategy. A mutual

My Experience Of A Heartwarming Experience At A Bible Camp
I had a heartwarming experience this past summer at a Bible camp where I volunteer as a counselor. It
was my first year volunteering and I wanted all my campers to have a great time like I always did!
One of my campers was a young girl named Vivian. She had a rough start to the week. Vivian did not
want to do any of the activities, follow the rules and she walked without a buddy at all times.
Unfortunately on top of all this, Vivian was very accident prone. The first three days she had visited
the nurse twice. On one of these visits she was checked to see if she had a concussion. Needless to say,
she was not enjoying her time so far at camp that week.
After the hard start to the week, she was not wanting to be at camp anymore and wanted to go home.
My job was to make her feel better and want to have fun! I decided to have a talk with her one night
before bedtime. We talked about how she was feeling and she had told me that she was home sick. I
suggested that she wrote a letter to her family. She got very excited and wrote a letter, drew pictures,
and put one of her crafts in the envelope to send to her parents. This idea of mine that helped her feel
better gave her the confidence to confide in me. She started to talk to me and tell me stories about
things she did back home. This made her less home sick and let her go to sleep that night without any
problems. After this night her week at camp turned around and she only had a few small speed bumps
along the way.

Role Of Federalism In Mexico
Prior to gaining independence, Mexico was a thriving colony that was beginning to find its footing in
international trade, but inner conflicts within the government structure which had been increasing
dramatically, caused a great divide among citizens. Fueled by the disagreement between staying under
the tight restrictions of Spain s bourbon reforms or creating their own nation to which Mexico would
govern itself, a tug of war ignited as each side argued for their respective policies to be put in place.
Mexico gaining their independence in 1821 was the main cause which created the standoff between
centralism (eventually conservatism) and federalism (soon evolved to liberalism) as the two main
contenders for government policies. For three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Monomyth In The Lion King
Rebecca and Phillip Stein (2017) discuss monomyth, a hero s journey, in their book Anthropology of
Religion, Magic, and Witchcraft. In the text, they use the definition of a monomyth given by Joseph
Campbell. Campbell defines it as when A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a
region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won:
the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow
man. (Stein Stein, 2017.) According to the text, a hero s journey has three stages: the departure, the
initiation, and the return. (Stein and Stein, 2017.) The Disney movie, The Lion King, is a monomyth
movie about a young lion who abandons his role as king of the Pride lands and must come back to
save his family and his land when danger ensues. Simba is the son of Mufasa, the current king,
therefore he is the rightful heir to the throne. This is the common day world that Simba lives in. His
uncle, Scar, is filled with hatred towards both Simba and Mufasa, because he believes he deserves to
be king. He comes up with an elaborate plan to kill them both. He tricks Simba into thinking that his
father has a surprise for him, and he instructs Simba to wait inside of a canyon while he fetches his
Mufasa. Scar deliberately starts a stampede of wildebeests to try and kill Simba. Mufasa arrives to the

The Differences Between The Native Taiwanese And...
When I was younger, I didn t quite understand the differences between the Native Taiwanese and
Mainlander in Taiwan, where Mainlander referred to Chinese migrants during or after the period of the
surrender of Imperial Japan, and World War II. It wasn t until much later that I understood why
Taiwanese divided among themselves. I was told that my mother s side of family have experienced the
White Terror, which refers to the entire period from 1947 to 1987, during this period, many of the
family lands was confiscated by the Kuomintang, the Chinese nationalist party. It was also during the
White Terror period that Mandarin Chinese language was established as the official language of
Taiwan, and the other native language mainly Taiwanese was considered as taboo and forbidden. The
language differences are especially obvious between Northern and Southern of Taiwan, while my

The Horror Of Society In The Canterbury Tales By Chaucer

Horror of 14th Century society
I) Introduction
Seen in The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer we get a glimpse at the horror of society. This is
exemplified by the tale of the Friar and Summoner. They both tell a story about each other. The Friar
tells about the evils of a summoner while the summoner speaks about a Friar who is laughable.
However you see more of the wickedness is society in there prologue and interactions with each other.
In each story you can see the hatred the two hold for one another, the Friar tales of a summoner going
to hell while the summoner talks about a Friar who is seen as a joke to peasants and nobles.
II) A) The Prologues
The Friar s tale mocks the idiotic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She asks to pay the summoner to represent her to the archdeacon he demands twelve pence, a sum that
she thinks is too much as she believes she is not guilty of sinning. The summoner then demands her
new pan, claiming that it would paid her fine for making her husband a cuckold. She curses the
summoner, the devil hears this and says to the summoner that he shall be in hell tonight. Then the
summoner and the devil disappeared into hell.
The entire point of the Friar s tale is to give the message that summoner s true home is hell. Even
going as far as to have the summoner meet the devil on his travels. The Friar is trying to sent the
message that the summoner is the worst type of person by having him meet the devil and go to hell
before he even dies due to a curse.
IV) C) The Summoner s Tale
The Summoner s Tale includes acts of perversion of office committed by the friar. These perversions
are mainly related to the Friar s vow of poverty such as pretence of praying (308) for those who gave
him offerings or food (305). Like the Summoner did earlier, the Friar interrupts the Summoner while
he is telling his tale. The Summoner continues his tale about a friar who stops at the home of a sickly
man named Thomas and attempts to get money from the ailing man and his wife. The Summoner
chronicles that the friar kissed her (Thomas wife) sweetly, chirping like a sparrow (307). The

Individual power is the control held within the hierarchy of ascendancy over others. Although it does
take into account the ability to have command over one s self, with regard to the freedom of influence

Charlotte Beers Case Study Essay
1. What is Charlotte Beers trying to accomplish as CEO of O M Worldwide?
Charlotte Beers took over as the CEO of O M in 1991. When she took over as the CEO, the company
had lost some of its major accounts including American Express (its most successful account) and the
company s revenues had declined sharply. The press was calling it Beleaguered and predicting that
there was no hope for survival. O M had grown rapidly in the 1980 s and now had 7000 employees
across 270 offices worldwide.

But Gertsner felt otherwise, he felt that the strength of the company lay in being big. He felt that IBM
just needed to do the same stuff that they were doing, only better. But he refrained from articulating
this because of the impact it would have on staff morale.
The vision was very customer focused. The customers loved the vision and what it would entail for
their business. They bought into the vision readily and were very enthusiastic about it. Charlotte had
taken over the responsibility of communicating with clients while the other managers handled internal
communication. Since the original vision of brand stewardship was Charlotte s, I believe she did a
better job of it than the other managers.
This led to customers coming forward asking for brand audits even before the employees had a clear
idea of the vision. This might have hurt staff morale; the customers knew more about their company s
vision than they themselves did.
3. Evaluate the process by which Beers and her team created the vision
Beers first identified the people who were most passionate about change. She had a brainstorming
session with them to understand the key change areas. After the meeting, the team reverted back with
list of to do items, which was then shortened to come up with the key focus areas for 1993. These key
strategies were linked to the emerging vision by the declaration The purpose of our business is to build

want to be caught unaware of the regulations involved in handling sensitive personal data. The
consequences of improper procedures could be penalties, fees and even termination of your card
processing account. Read on to learn about PCI regulations and what you need to do to remain
compliant.
What is PCI?
PCI stands for Payment Card Industry. When referring to the subject of PCI compliance, you are
actually talking about a set of industry standards known as PCI DSS, where the DSS stands for Data
Security Standards. These standards were designed to ensure that businesses handle credit card
information in a secure manner.
The first version of data security standards was released in December 2004 to combat the increasing
rate at which cardholder information was being stolen online. The PCI DSS was established in 2006
with the formation of the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC). The council
focuses on improving security of credit card transactions as technology and market trends change the
security concerns in the industry.
The PCI SSC was created by the major credit card brands, including MasterCard, Visa, American
Express and Discover; however, the council is not responsible for PCI compliance. It s the payment
brands that actually enforce the standards.
Who needs to comply with PCI security standards?

Definition Essay On Being Strong
When people hear the word strong they may think of a long list of things such as steel, big muscles, or
even bonds. I on the other hand believe that strong is so much more than physical strength or
something s ability to withstand excessive stress. In my short 18 year life I have seen and defined
strong in my own way. To me, strong is a mental, emotional, and physical quality possessed by those
who have chosen to push forward when life pushes them back. When I Googled the word strong I
found that the first result states, having the power to move heavy weights or perform other physically
demanding tasks. This is the most common idea of the word. Instead of thinking of the 8 year old with
leukemia or the mother who has lost everything, people generally think of Superman or a giant steel
structure. I believe that people generally confuse having physical strength for being strong. Having
strength is having the ability to lift weights or do labor intensive tasks; it is a purely physical
characteristic. Being strong, however is making the decision to call someone when ending it all seems
to be the best option or keeping a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Theme Of Adolescence In The Outsiders
The Outsiders (essay)
The differences between adolescence and adolescent experiences are portrayed in the film The
Outsiders (1983), by Francis Ford Coppola and Clueless (1995), by Amy Heckerling. Coppola uses
visual and verbal techniques such as music, camera angles and sounds to show the friendship between
Johnny and Ponyboy and also depicts the meaning of adolescence.
The notion of adolescence is strengthened and enriched through the film The Outsiders (1983), by
Francis Ford Coppola. The symbolic imagery of the sunrise and sunset symbolises the unity and
connection of the group, this is reinforced in the scene when Ponyboy connects with Cherry at the
cinemas. The greased hair sported by the members of the Greaser gang is perhaps the most potent
symbol in the film. The symbolism of the well groomed hair reflects their wealth and clean cut
upbringing this is reiterated through the Greaser gang has longer, greased hair to reflect their pride in
being from the wrong side of the tracks. For Greasers, long greased hair symbolizes their toughness,
pride in where they come from, and their affiliation with their gang. Above all, the greased hair
symbolizes the boys kinship with one another this also depicts the idea of adolscence. In the long shot
of Johnny and Ponyboy running away to the abandoned church, they cut their hair to disguise
themselves. Ponyboy is not happy about having to change his appearance, and when he returns to the
neighborhood, the other gang members

Achilles Vs Odysseus
ODYSSEUS VS. ACHILLES: WHO IS THE BETTER MAN?
When considering the question Who is the better man? It is necessary to find the similarities that exist
between the two men who are being compared, (i.e. Odysseus and Achilles) of which there are mainly
three. The first one being that they are both Greek men, the second one being that they are both
heroes, and the third one being that they are both leaders. Odysseus is the better man because he better
fits the role of an Ancient Greek man, he better fits the role of a hero, and he better fits the role of a
leader.
In Ancient Greece, the concept of Arete (moral virtue) was highly valued, Arete was the central ideal
of all Greek culture. 1 Arete was considered one of the key elements that an Ancient Greek man
(especially a nobleman or a hero) should possess, it was the ability to ...make his hands keep his head
against enemies, monsters, and dangers of all kinds, and to come out victorious. 2 To use a
paraphrastic definition of moral virtue according to Aristotle in Book 2 of the Nicomachean Ethics,
moral virtue is the ability to inherently know that which is right from that which is wrong. Odysseus
showed that he possessed the quality of Arete throughout The Odyssey, the prime examples of which
being in his motivations for returning home. Firstly, the great love he bore for his wife, Penelope, and
his son, Telemachus, and secondly, the duty which he felt to his people as their ruler. Both the idea of
family and the great

By constantly reflecting on how a leaders actions impact their followers a successful leader can
recognize their assumptions and learn how they, as leaders, react to certain situations. Patti Clayton, a

also to more informed and effective action. Learning through reflection on the implementation of

The Mortality Rate Of Humans
People recognize that death is the terminal point in the life of a physical body. In a moment, a person s
memory, personality, and experiences all seem to disappear. It is foolish for people to live a life
unprepared for the inevitable where one s existence ceases to exist. In fact, the mortality rate of
humans is 100 percent. Perhaps some essential part of people survive death and lives forever beyond
the grave. The truth can come from two choices speculation or revelation. Many people believe in the

Whether it s heaven or hell, one s soul may be judged or evaluated on where they will arrive in the
afterlife. The way a person has conducted themselves will influence their soul s destiny after death.
What survives after the death of the body? Prominent world religions view this part of afterlife
differently. For example, Christianity has dualistic conceptions. A non physical soul that separates the
body at death, but there are also contrasting views. For instance, many Christians believe that a
spiritual body resurrects after death. It can be physical and three dimensional. However, but that
spiritual body is distinct from a person s current physical body. Now, Buddhists do not believe that a
body contains a soul. However, they do believe a person s karma survives death, prior sensations,
perceptions, and consciousness transmit to another physical body. The moment death occurs, it sets in
motion of an immediate retribution for the consequences of these desires or actions. Then forcing the
individual to be reborn once again into the unceasing cycle of karma and samsara. (Sumegi 2013).
Religion can date back as far as homo sapiens existence (100,000 B.C.E.). People of this time
conducted burial rituals and handled the dead with care and consideration. However, it is known they
buried their dead with food, weapons, stone implements, decorative shells, and bones in the graves

Child Labor During The 1800 S
Zach Wood October 5, 2016 Child Labor 1880 1910 Child labor was very common in the late 1800 s
and the early 1900 s in many places. Child labor usually took place in a factory working on a
manufacturer line or doing as much physical labor as they could possibly do, being as young as they
are. These kids who took part in child labor started some as early as the age of four or five, and then
kept working until the day they died. Most of the time these kids has to work as much or sometimes
more than even adults nowadays work. They would go to the factory while the sun comes up, work all
day, and then go home at night to eat; and then wake up and do it all again the next day. These kids
also were not working easy jobs, these jobs were very physical and hard labor. Also, the working
conditions these kids worked in were not always as good as they needed to be. Sometimes they would
even be put in situations where they could die any time of the day while at work. The wage for these
kids were not to good either, some would get paid very, very little, and some would not get paid at all.
Kids had no choice but to work and if they didn t work they would not survive, therefore they would
really work for any price. Which was usually a lot cheaper than any adult would work for. There were
many different place in which child labor took place in, places ranging from just cleaning houses, or
doing small house work, to a full day job with very intense physical labor.

With a higher sense of individuality, humans began to conceive the gods in a personalized form. This
stage in development is called mythical . In Egypt, this process began during the late prehistoric
period, when writing was being invented and myths were being formulated (Mark).
The Mythical part of the egyptian religion was the way people personalized their Gods. They started
to do this in the prehistoric period, where people began to show why things happened through myths.
In the very end, the egyptian Gods were born.
Like all religions, that of ancient Egypt was complex. It evolved over the centuries from one that
emphasized local deities into a national religion with a smaller number of principal deities. Some
theologians think that Egypt was moving towards a monotheistic faith in a single creator, symbolized
by the sun god. There was no single belief system, but the Egyptians shared a common understanding
about the creation of the world and the possibility of reverting to chaos if the destructive forces of the
universe were unleashed (Mark). Even though there were many Gods, Egyptians all had something in
common. They all had one understanding of how the world worked. Their religion evolved over the
years as their culture changed. In the end, Egyptians had a small number of Gods that helped them

Improving Current System Of Police Reporting
5.5 Improvement to Current Situation
According to five factors that have been proposed, we had suggested some recommendations to
improve current system of police reporting in Malaysia which is the Police Reporting System (PRS) to
ensure that the function of the PRS will definitely helped to record and transfer the report in a better
and easier way.
5.5.1 Role
As mentioned above, role is very important factor in police reporting in order to make the report,
received statement from complainant, and most important thing is to transfer the report to another
police officers. As a recommendation, police organization in Malaysia can organize or provide a
training program for police personnel on duty at the enquiry office about the use and maintenance of
the PRS so that they can write the report quickly and also they know the function for every single
menu and button of the PRS. Plus, if the PRS are breakdown, the police personnel will know how to
fix the problem. Thus, it wills not wasting time to wait for the technical team to fix the problem and
also they no need to write the report manually in POL 55 and re type it once the PRS was fixed.
Besides that, enquiry officer also are encourage to more than one language. For instance, if the
complainant who come over to lodge a report does not know to speak Bahasa Malaysia, the enquiry
officer are able to speak another language like English, Mandarin, Tamil or any language that easy to
understand by the complainant.

Christmas Carol Analysis
Cesar Granda
E.G 121
When reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens you realize that Scrooge s childhood has a huge
impact on his adult life, his adult self is a mirror image of his child self, both in his emotions and
relationships. This becomes apparent when the ghost of Christmas past appears and takes Scrooge on
a journey back into his childhood days. His childhood really molds Scrooge into the person he
becomes later in life. Scrooge was a lonely and withdrawn child because he lost connection with the
only parent he had left after the death of his mother at childbirth. His father sends him away to
boarding school and refuses to allow the young Scrooge to return home. This disconnection from the

Major Life Choices
In The Road Not Taken and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, Robert Frost depicts the

choices, he feels that whichever road he takes will be a good choice; keeping in mind that the choice
he decides to make will have changes and consequences. The speaker considering his ideas carefully
says, And looked down as far as I could / To where it bent in the undergrowth, (lines 4 5) he starts to

Germany, Russia, And Austria Hungary
From my perspective the game started off with France and Italy immediately isolating them, and only
talking to one another, with the exception of Britain later on. Germany, Russia, Turkey, and Austria
Hungary all started off talking to one another, but after a few turns passed each country branched off
into an immediate pair. Those being: Germany and Russia, Turkey and Austria Hungary. Turkey came
out strong taking advantage of the unclaimed space between Austria Hungary and them; they
remained strong throughout the game, quickly taking over territory. Germany and Russia set their
sights towards France and worked together to claim territory, however, Russia did not leave the
manpower behind to protect its lower end, and Turkey began to creep its way in. Britain appeared to
become focused solely on overseeing the demise of Russia and lead a one front assault against the
country. France and Italy attempted to work together towards a common goal, though; they both
appeared to be heading in separate directions unable to support one another, their alliance proving
little. Italy and Austria Hungary with alliances spread too far to aid battled one another in losing fight
for territory as neither held the man power to successfully claim victory and often ended up in a
standoff with neither moving or simply trading territory. However, the unresolved disputes between
the two allowed for Turkey to continue advancing north into Austria Hungary s territory and distract
Italy from

  • 2. The Terminator By James Cameron The Terminator was written by James Cameron and came out in 1984.1 It tells of a post apocalyptic world dominated by a war between humans and artificially intelligent robots, called terminators. The movie was produced at the beginning of the Digital Age, and computer development and use was beginning to increase. Computer companies like Apple and Microsoft had recently been founded and some of the first personal computers were being created. Many wondered if society was becoming too dependent of technology . In addition to computers, all forms of technology were rapidly improving during this time period. The Terminator predicts that the relationship between man and computer turns bad when the computer is given too much power. Ultimately, mankind creates its own downfall. Furthermore, the terminator is seen as superior to the human characters in the movie. The Terminator has no feelings of pain, anger, remorse, or any other kind of emotions. It seems to be a flawless killer, unmatched by its weak creators. The Terminator embodies people s fears of the advancement of technology and its impact on society. The Terminator takes place over the course of a week in the 1980s in an unknown town. The movie is about a robot (a terminator ) that goes back in time to kill a woman named Sarah Connor and a man named Kyle Reese who tries to save her. The terminator begins to systematically kill women named Sarah Connor in the city the movie takes place in. The terminator finds the right ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Better Off Friends Character Analysis Imagine moving from Los Angeles, California to a small town in Wisconsin and not knowing anyone at the new school. Anyone in this situation would want to make friends that would accept them in the new town. This is the position Levi, one of the main characters in Elizabeth Eulberg s Better off Friends, is in when he starts middle school. Macallan, the other main character, is the person that befriends Levi, and they become very close very fast. Being a new kid from down south, many people stereotype Levi because of how he looks and the way he acts, which was normal in Los Angeles where he used to live, but odd to the people in Wisconsin. For this reason the boys at school did not really want to hang out with Levi, and that is why he and Macallan become such good friends in a short amount of time. The two of them could find a lot that they had in common, even though they were from completely different places. Macallan and Levi were together a lot, so when they hung out just the two of them, people would think they were dating when they were not. This is the second stereotype addressed in the book; a boy and a girl that spend lots of time together do not have to be a boyfriend and a girlfriend. Throughout middle school and high school, they were constantly asked if they were dating, when they were not. Therefore, in Better off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg, Eulberg addresses stereotypes about where people come from and people of the opposite gender being just friends. First ... • 4. My Father Is A Second Generation As anyone in America can relate, heritage and where we come from can construct our personality, build our demeanor, and in some cases, determines who we are as people. It often amazes me when I step foot into a class room, or go into a local bar, even walk down the street and see how many different faces there are. In some aspect, when I look close enough, I can see dead people. Not dead as in walking zombies, but a glimpse of the past ancestors that helped mold these individuals into the people standing before me. With that in mind, when I look the mirror I can see who came before me and through past stories I can feel the struggles that Italians felt as they crossed the ocean to become Americans. My father is a second generation Sicilian who grew up in East Lynn, and my mother is a second generation Northern Italian, who grew up in West Lynn. One of the stories I often hear is how the Italians and the Sicilians never really got along, and frequently butt heads. Naturally it was very Romeo and Juliet like that they would end up together. When they become husband and wife my mother had gone to the jewelers and had this pepper like charm created. This amulate is known as the Italian Horn, or Cornicello . Although it is more known today, this charm was hard to come by and not well known outside the Italian culture, and it helped bind the two families together as one. Every culture has very different ways of doing things, and although Sicily is part of Italy, the two cultures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Article Analysis of Habits of Mind In an article titled Habits of Mind: An Organizing Principle for Mathematics Curriculum (n.d.), Cuoco, Goldenberg and Mark call for a new approach to designing mathematics curricula for the future. As they point out, it is impossible to know all that the future holds: Past experience tells us that today s first graders will graduate high school most likely facing problems that do not yet exist (Cuoco et al., p. 1). Students have been taught mathematics in the same way for a long time, the authors claim. Students have been given a bag of facts to use in their approach to problem solving. The bags have changed according to newer or more fashionable ideas, substituting, for example, fractal geometry for Euclidean geometry. The underlying pedagogy, however, has remained essentially the same. Cuoco et al. assert that a much more effective approach to teaching mathematics facilitates students development of habits of mind. Habits of mind are not the sole purview of mathematics; in fact, learning how to think and how to approach problems in a variety of situations are useful skills in all academic content areas as well as in life. For mathematics, Cuoco et al. suggest a number of habits of mind that would ideally be cultivated in students. These include the ability to recognize patterns, to experiment, to describe and defend conclusions, to tinker and to invent, to visualize, and to make guesses and plausible conjectures. By developing these habits of mind, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A pair of binoculars or a telescope makes the bird seem closer to you, making you able to see the close up details of the bird. While on a bird watching trip, many people bring a pair of binoculars or a telescope, sometimes even a bird guide. These bird guides will help you to spot and know what certain bird species are. Although the majority of bird watchers are pretty well informed, a guide confirm identification of birds spotted, and helps birders who may be traveling in land they haven t explored before. Many bird watchers have a bird watching life list , which is a paper that they carry around that helps them to keep up with the birds they have seen and the birds they haven t seen yet. Also, a sound recorder would be helpful. Since it can be hard to identify some types of birds, you could record what you hear and play it back later for identification by an expert. Extra gear that a bird watcher may find to need include heavy weight boots for different land they aren t used to and layered clothes to help deal with the changing weather. As for Florida, it s thought of as a birdwatcher s paradise. The perfectly mild weather, location and diverse surroundings attract over 470 different species of birds. Many experienced bird watchers suggest getting a field guide for the area where you would want to go birding. A field guide is a booklet with images of the birds and guidelines for classifying them. • 8. Causes Of Jim Crow Laws During the time period of 1877 1954 a set of laws called the Jim Crow laws were put in motion. They were laws that made segregation in schools and public places legal. No white person or African American could be doing anything together at anytime. These laws were against all of the African Americans living in the southern states of the United States. I believe the main cause of this conflict was to segregate the African Americans away from whites, just as if they were still slaves. White people thought that they weren t the same as them just because of their race, color of their skin, or culture and therefore shouldn t be treated the same. On April 12th, 1861, the Civil War started. The main purpose of this war was to either end slavery or to keep it, depending on what side you were on (according to ferris.edu). People in the South wanted slavery to keep going, but the people in the North wanted to end it. After 620,000 casualties and four years of severe and cruel fighting the war ended. There was no more slavery, the North had won. If the South had won the war there would probably still be slavery, so they wouldn t have to make the Jim Crow Laws. This was the most important factor for the laws. With them losing the war, now the people of the South had political, economical and cultural reasons for these laws. Due to the fact that the South lost the war, there slaves were now free and now had political freedom. Now the African Americans could run for political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Persuasive writing use s specific features which help the information used to become persuasive towards the audience. This could include using present tense, using emotive language, using rhetorical questions, making opinions sound like facts, as well as using powerful verbs and adjectives etc. Persuasive writing can be linked and used in many different ways. The journalist also always puts out a headline that would immediately get the audiences attention. The headline is always the art of the journalist work, as they see this as an opportunity to sell their story; headline could be short, snappy, and catchy. After the headline the journalist provides the audience with a short paragraph which sums up the story, some see this as a short introduction. The journalist does this to gain the audience interest. Most people know that a person s eyes are always sighted upon small amounts of writing and imagery. So the short paragraph would make the audience show some interest towards the story. In health and social care journalistic writing is used a lot, whether this is about the stories about the NHS being published. Or when major illnesses or problems are coming. An examp0le of this would be when we went through the period of swine flue; wine flue was making its front page everywhere. This not only was a disaster but it was the journalists dream, as they new it was a hot topic to write about as it would gain many peoples attention, this would also push the journalists ratings up. All three writing styles are different from each other in variety of ways. We see as persuasive language as a main way to get the attention of someone, where as reflective language is where you speak about what had happened through out the day. • 10. Peptic Ulcer Disease and Pediatric Patients PUD is not as common in pediatric patients when compared to adult incidences. The most common cause of PUD in pediatrics is due to Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection (Guariso Gasparetto, 2012). Primitive ulcers, due to H. pylori, cause changes in the gastric or duodenal mucosa and alter gastric function such as overproduction of HCl and pepsin, resulting in ulcer forming lesions (Guariso Gasparetto, 2012). NSAIDs, stress and other extra gastric pathogenic events cause secondary ulcers within the stomach. The underlying pathology of PUD is due to the reduction of prostaglandins that serve as a protective mechanism on the gastric mucosa. Patients most commonly present with dull stomach ache or pain usually after a meal. Gas, bloating, nausea and vomiting are some less common symptoms. PUD, although rare when compared to adults, is reported worldwide in children and most commonly identified as initiated by H. pylori infection and the use of NSAIDs occurring in the second decade of life. Other events such as stress, shock, or major trauma can trigger acute ulcers in children but there is a hereditary family history component that increases acid output and accelerates gastric emptying in more than 20% of patients (Guariso Gasparetto, 2012). Although H. pylori infection is the more common cause of PUD, the use of NSAIDs increases the risk of acquiring PUD (Guariso Gasparetto, 2012). Her murderers Steven Kummerfield and Alex Ternowetsky, young middle class white men, were convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to merely six and a half years in prison. George s story is one of the many Indigenous women who have been murdered or missing over the past years. There are over 580 cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women, close to half are put aside and left unsolved. Only 53% of these cases have lead to charges of homicide (Klement 8). Drastically, statistics indicate that Aboriginals are faced with more hardships throughout their life compared to the average Canadian. Indigenous groups, particularly women, suffer from a lower rate of education, higher suicide rates and an array of health risks. This paper will examine the role settler colonization history has played in perpetuating conditions for violence to indigenous women, many of which are still experienced today. This will be accomplished by first assessing the history of settler colonization and its negative repercussions. Secondly, it will use Sherene Razak s concept of spatial segregation, to illustrate how state institutions have facilitated violence through space, race and the law. Lastly, this paper will use evidence from the film Finding Dawn to further demonstrate how violence towards indigenous women is institutionally produced. It was my first year volunteering and I wanted all my campers to have a great time like I always did! One of my campers was a young girl named Vivian. She had a rough start to the week. Vivian did not want to do any of the activities, follow the rules and she walked without a buddy at all times. Unfortunately on top of all this, Vivian was very accident prone. The first three days she had visited the nurse twice. On one of these visits she was checked to see if she had a concussion. Needless to say, she was not enjoying her time so far at camp that week. After the hard start to the week, she was not wanting to be at camp anymore and wanted to go home. My job was to make her feel better and want to have fun! I decided to have a talk with her one night before bedtime. We talked about how she was feeling and she had told me that she was home sick. I suggested that she wrote a letter to her family. She got very excited and wrote a letter, drew pictures, and put one of her crafts in the envelope to send to her parents. This idea of mine that helped her feel better gave her the confidence to confide in me. She started to talk to me and tell me stories about things she did back home. This made her less home sick and let her go to sleep that night without any problems. After this night her week at camp turned around and she only had a few small speed bumps along the way. Since the original vision of brand stewardship was Charlotte s, I believe she did a better job of it than the other managers. I on the other hand believe that strong is so much more than physical strength or something s ability to withstand excessive stress. The first one being that they are both Greek men, the second one being that they are both heroes, and the third one being that they are both leaders. Odysseus is the better man because he better fits the role of an Ancient Greek man, he better fits the role of a hero, and he better fits the role of a leader.
