 Any vehicle will at one time be parked short time or longer time,
provision of parking facilities is essential.
 need for parking spaces is usually very great in areas of business,
residential, or commercial activities.
 park-and-ride.
 Providing adequate parking space to meet the demand for parking in
the Central Business District (CBD).
 This problem usually confronts a city traffic engineer.
 solution is not simple, Parking studies are used to determine the
demand for and the supply of parking facilities.

transportation planning.
Know the definition of parking terms.
Learn the methodology of parking studies.
Learn how to find out space requirements for a parking
garage.
To obtain information regarding supply and demand of
parking spaces.
To develop systematic on-street parking
facilities/regulations .
To improve existing on-street facilities.
To develop new off-street parking facilities .
Methodology
Parking facilities can be classified into two categories. They
are-
1. On-Street Parking
2.Off- Street Parking
1. Parallel Parking
2. 30 degree parking
3. 45 degree parking
4. 60 degree Parking
5. 90 degree Parking
On- Street Parking
Off-Street Parking
1. Surface car park
2. Multi-storey parks
3. Roof parks
4. Mechanical car parks
5. Underground car parks

Objectives: Parking lot design
Location: In front of Civil Engineering Building, BUET
Method of determining demand: Interview method
Equipment: Odometer, tape, camera etc.
Weather: Sunny day
Data was collected by enumerators of group 2 using odometer,
tape for measuring various dimensions and camera for capturing
existing condition.

Existing condition of Parking area of CE building, Buet
Data Analysis
Conclusion
4 wheeled vehicles were determined to be Length=15ft, Width=9ft
Staff Parking Slot=15
General Parking Slot=31
Disable parking slot=1
Total =47
90º parking layouts are provided because they require the
smallest area per car space and can suffice to the current
demand. (According to Larkspur Municipal Code, for 90º
parking layouts, the recommended stall width is 9ft and the
depth of stall perpendicular to aisle is 18ft)
The peak demand in peak hour (11am -12pm) is 50 (in 1 day
observation).
AutoCAD layout of designed parking area of CE building, Buet
Recommendations
The parking sign and markings should be maintained strictly.
No vehicle should be allowed to park under porch and no park regions.
Parking slot for disabled should not be used by other vehicles.
There should be a speed limit in front of the building to control vehicles
movement and ensure safety of people there.
If the demand become higher paid parking could be introduced.
The space in front of Concrete laboratory should be made free of unwanted
things to make more space for the parking slots in future.
In order to facilitate entry and exit of cars in front of civil building, a
roundabout was provided.

Inadequate funding to run the survey
Lack of modern instruments
Not having a professional photographer

  • 4.  Any vehicle will at one time be parked short time or longer time, provision of parking facilities is essential.  need for parking spaces is usually very great in areas of business, residential, or commercial activities.  park-and-ride.  Providing adequate parking space to meet the demand for parking in the Central Business District (CBD).  This problem usually confronts a city traffic engineer.  solution is not simple, Parking studies are used to determine the demand for and the supply of parking facilities. Objectives Understanding parking planning is an integral part of transportation planning. Know the definition of parking terms. Learn the methodology of parking studies. Learn how to find out space requirements for a parking garage. To obtain information regarding supply and demand of parking spaces. To develop systematic on-street parking facilities/regulations . To improve existing on-street facilities. To develop new off-street parking facilities .

Condition of Site Objectives: Parking lot design Location: In front of Civil Engineering Building, BUET Method of determining demand: Interview method Equipment: Odometer, tape, camera etc. Weather: Sunny day Data was collected by enumerators of group 2 using odometer, tape for measuring various dimensions and camera for capturing existing condition.

Conclusion 4 wheeled vehicles were determined to be Length=15ft, Width=9ft Staff Parking Slot=15 General Parking Slot=31 Disable parking slot=1 Total =47 90º parking layouts are provided because they require the smallest area per car space and can suffice to the current demand. (According to Larkspur Municipal Code, for 90º parking layouts, the recommended stall width is 9ft and the depth of stall perpendicular to aisle is 18ft) The peak demand in peak hour (11am -12pm) is 50 (in 1 day observation).

Recommendations The parking sign and markings should be maintained strictly. No vehicle should be allowed to park under porch and no park regions. Parking slot for disabled should not be used by other vehicles. There should be a speed limit in front of the building to control vehicles movement and ensure safety of people there. If the demand become higher paid parking could be introduced. The space in front of Concrete laboratory should be made free of unwanted things to make more space for the parking slots in future. In order to facilitate entry and exit of cars in front of civil building, a roundabout was provided.
