The document summarizes the success of the film Paranormal Activity and how its ownership affected that success. It began as an independent film with a very small budget but was noticed by Paramount, one of the major film studios, who bought it for $350,000. After Paramount distributed it widely, it became enormously profitable, grossing over $193 million. While it started as an independent film with no real script or professional equipment, Paramount's involvement helped make it a major commercial success.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Paranormal Activity Case Study
1. Paranormal Activity is widely known by audiences across the globe, with a
total of five films produced. The Paranormal series has become
increasingly popular and therefore produced huge success within the box
office. However the initial film of this horror series, highlights how
ownership affects the films success and the overall reception from
audiences.
Paranormal Activity was introduced to audiences in 2007 as an
independent film. The film was written, co-produced, edited and directed by
Oren Peli - who had no training in cinematography. Peli’s production stage
consisted of an unknown cast, one main setting of an apartment rented by
himself and used basic film equipment. There was no real script for his
cast, but instead told them the basic plot of his film and therefore left them
to improvise, also known as retroscripting in the world of film and theatre.
Additionally the camera was often left on a tripod to reinforce the home video aspect of the
film. His lack of camera equipment and structured script did however act
in his favour to produce the film in a natural, real life approach. It took him
two weeks to film, day and night, with a budget of $11,000.
The film was first exhibition at Screamfest Horror Film Festival in the
United States in 2007. The film circled US film festivals from 2007 up until
2009 when one of the big six noticed the potential in the film. Paramount
bought Paranormal Activity and its potential sequels for $350,000. Prior
to this we can understand that the film wasn’t portraying much success,
due to it’s limitations of being an independent film company. It wasn’t until
Paramount bought the film and distributed it, it became a profitable film.
Paramount noticed the audiences attracted to the film - young people - and therefore initially
showed the film in colleges. 11/12 dates sold out at these American colleges, which showed
how this film could progress. Paramount used virtual marketing by asking the public to
demand one million responses for the fim, for it to be released nation wide. This was done
using ‘eventful.com’ a website frequently used by those of a younger generation. The
responses for a wide release hit over one million and thus Paramount fulfilled the audience's
demand. Nonetheless, during the process of exchanging the owning rights from Peli to
Paramount, Paramount demolished the original ending and developed three new endings.
One was show in cinemas and the other on the DVD, however the third was deemed to
brutal and complex to shoot. Paramount also included a 15 minute tribute to those who
demanded the national release at the end of the DVD.
Paranormal Activity is said to be the most profitable film,
collecting $193.4 million at the box office. The film is also
available on modern film exhibitions such as Netflix and
Amazon Prime. Paranormal Activity has continued to produce
six sequels, which Oren Peli helped to produced however
directed by Steven Spielberg and distributed by Paramount. The film remains individual by
no additional merch or video games etc.
2. This film shows how the change in ownership determined the change in success of the film.
It begun as an independent film, by Oren Peli however it is clear to see the film was not
achieving much attention, until it was owned by Paramount. Paramount, as we know is one
of the Big Six, therefore this reinforces the idea of how these film companies dominate the
film industry. Hypothetically, if Oren Peli was to decline the buying offer from Paramount, the
film would have most likely been forgotten about, and not achieved this much attention from
audiences to the extent it has created six sequels, especially as the film had already been
exhibitioned at numerous film festivals in the US for two years prior to the buy. The
consequence of selling his film, Peli’s original ending was changed and his authentic
retroscripting and home video camera was challenged with structured scripts and
professional camera and film equipment. However they did remain his home movie
approach throughout each six films, and followed this through in their trailers. This shows an
identifiable link between the movies and their trailers to audiences.
Additionally, despite this film signifying the need of a Big Six company
in order to achieve audiences, isn’t always the case. Independent films
have become great success at the box office and with audiences. For
example The King's Speech is an independent British film, which was
claimed the most successful independent british film ever. It also
received 12 oscars and 14 baftas awards. However majority of the time
we must understand that these major film companies, do control the
film industry, and often majority of these films produced, which is
evidently shown within this case study of Paranormal Activity.
