Introduction
When promoting a film there are many different elements
used, from posters and billboards to tv and radio adverts as
well as tv appearences from the stars of the film. However
the cast will usually only do tv appearences that appeal to
their target audiences for example the film Fast and Furious,
the star of the film Arron Paul made an appearance on the tv
show Top Gear, this is because both the film and the tv show
share a similar target audience.
Elements
With tv appearences Arron Paul featured on a number on
different shows, for example he made a guest appearance on
‘Top Gear’ this was because both the film and tv shows
audience liked watching things about cars, usually fast cars
and finding out about the speed of certain cars meanin that
the audience of top gear was one of the main target
audience of the film ‘Need For Speed.’ Another tv
appearance Arron Paul made was on the chat show Grahame
Norton, the reason he made an appearance on this particular
type of show was to reach a wider audience. As Arron Paul
was in a hit tv show called ‘Breaking Bad’ he was able to
appeal to fans of this and try and pursade them to watch his
new film.
I think Arron Pauls apperance on ‘The Graham Norton Show’ was a more
effective way of promoting the film. This is because this show has a larger and
wider audience including his own Target audience who would tune in to
watch him on the show. He also has
more time to talk about the film
compared to shows such as top
gear.
Arron Paul was the best choice of
actor to promote the film as he is
well known for his hit tv show
breaking bad. He will also appeal
to both men who are fans of need
for speed and breaking bad as well as women who may not be a typical
fan of these programmes due to him being good looking.
Discussion
Pre Production
Films use marketing campaignes to help create more income
from a film especially blockbuster films, apart from profit they
will receive from the box office, toys, games, posters, and
mechandise can help bring the film bring in even more profit.
Need for speed was origanally a video game which appealed to
males aged between 15 to 30 years old.
The makers of the film will look back at not only the films but
also the games focus groups, research and surveys.
Post Production
During post production for the film, the makers are able to
make changes to certain elements of the film which will
improve it.
By doing this they will show previews to a group of people and
ask for feedback and host focus groups on what they think
worked and didn’t work in the film so that they can make sure
that film is the best it can be meaning that they can genreate
more profit.
Anchorage
additional information designed to “anchor” the text to one specific reason,
reducing polysemy and, consequently, reducing the risk of aberrant readings. For
example, if you put a caption on a photo, people will interpret the photo in a way
that relates to that caption.
In the posters for Need For Speed the
audiences eyes are immedetaly drawn
to either the fast expensive car or the
woman standing in front of it. The
reason this is done if for two reasons,
the car appeals to the main target
audience as in anchors down what the
film is about, this appeals to car fanatics.
Also using the woman is sex appeal as the main target audience for this film is
males aged 15 to 30. The other posters shows helicopters, cars and the lead actor
Arron Paul, this is done as it anchors down that he plays a big part in the movie ,
this will also appeal to fans of
Paul in general.
Synergy & USP
Synergy means two industries and companies working together.
This is used in this film as Need For Speed was originally a video
game meaning that fans of the game will want to watch this film
already attracting a wide audience compared to a film that the
public has no previous knowledge of.
USP means unique selling point that all films try to have to make
them stand out to other films, in this case not only is this film
based on the video game but the storyline also revolves around
racing cars and attractive women, this will appeal to the films
target audience.
