An electrical panel, also known as a breaker box or load center, distributes power throughout a home via circuit breakers connected to wiring. There are two main types - distribution or lighting panels and appliance panels. Distribution panels focus on distributing power and contain a main circuit breaker, bus bars for hot and neutral currents, a bonding jumper, ground bar, and individual circuit breakers. Electrical panel standards are organized by type and components in the IEC 61439 standard. A panel's amperage capacity is printed near the main breaker and is usually 100, 150 or 200 amps. Adding individual breaker amperages may exceed the total panel rating.
