What is paint?
Paint is a chemical substance used on
surfaces for decorative and protective
purposes.
It leaves a thin film on the surfaces.
Types of paints
 On the basis of connectors

4. Marine
5. Plastic add.
 On the basis of application
1. Spraying
2. Dipping
3. Rollers

 Connectors: are in the form of polimers that
they occur the paint film after drying
1. Alkid connectors
Alkids are usually the products of poli
alcohols and poli asids.
The important difference of alkids from
other polyesters is the incurrance of
monoasids. These monoasids are usually oil
asids.

The carboxil group of organic asid and
hydroxil group of alcohol.

basis of oil lengths
1. %20-45 oil ingridents, short oiled
alkid (auto and synthetic paints)
2. %45-60 oil ingridents, medium

synthetic paints)
3. %60-80 oil ingridents, long oiled
alkids (constructing and synthetic
paints)

PVA Connectors
It occurs with the polimerisation of Vinil
Asetat Monemer (generally used in
plastic wall paints and glue).
This reaction is a exothermic reaction, so
it has to be controlled with the cooling
reactors.

 Solvent vaporization:The solvents of the
film vaporates and the molecules of
connectors occur a connection between
them.
 Oxidation: While the solvents vaporates,
molecules of connectors occur a oxygen
bridges that form the firm hard.
 Pigments: Organic and inorganic
substances. Colour, covering and
antikorazif features are supplied by
pigments.
Pigments do not solve in any kind of
solvents and they have a dimension less
than 1 micron.

thickness to the paint.

 Solvents: Solvents usually is added in two
phases.
In the first phase, paint, less liquid or solid,
become liqiuified.
In the second phase paint become applicable
with rollers or brushes.
In this sense, tiner is added to the synthetic
paints and water is added to the plastic
paints
 Grouped into three
1. Real solvents (ester and ketons)
2. Secret solvents (Alcohol)
3. Seyreltici solvents (aromatic hydocarbon)
If these solvents are not distirbuted fairly,:
 Blister
 Bad sticking
 Milking
 Oranging

Colour tank making colour last tests
Controlling Filling
 A good paint includes:
1. Recoverability: Paint recover the surface applied.
It is wanted to recover the surface with two
applications
2. Easily applicable:
3. Resistant to physical effects
4. Resistant to chemical effects (saop, cola, oil)
5. It should be resistant to athmosferic and special
situations like rain, sun
6. It should be decorative
 Which wheather condition is suitable for
painting?
 Synthetic paints: It is not recommended to
paint less than +5°c.
At the +15 °c, the drying duration
decrease by third times.
Less than +0 °c, drying duration increases
8-10 days.
 Plastic paints (PVA, akrilik paints): It is not
recommended to be painted under +5 °c.
Because the connectors of paints lose their film
structure and become dry. So they can be affected
by rain.
 Exterior paints: Exterior parts should be painted
under +20 +30 °c and can dry within 6-8 hours
 +10°c : can be affected within 24 hours
 +5°c: within 36 hours
The important aspects of painting
 Wheather conditions
 Shaking the paint
 Close the cap of paint when not used
 Do not apply on the oiled or swelled
surfaces
 Apply two layer paint instead of one
layer paint

  • 5.  Connectors: are in the form of polimers that they occur the paint film after drying 1. Alkid connectors Alkids are usually the products of poli alcohols and poli asids. The important difference of alkids from other polyesters is the incurrance of monoasids. These monoasids are usually oil asids.

  • 11.  Solvent vaporization:The solvents of the film vaporates and the molecules of connectors occur a connection between them.  Oxidation: While the solvents vaporates, molecules of connectors occur a oxygen bridges that form the firm hard.
  • 12.  Pigments: Organic and inorganic substances. Colour, covering and antikorazif features are supplied by pigments. Pigments do not solve in any kind of solvents and they have a dimension less than 1 micron.

  • 21.  A good paint includes: 1. Recoverability: Paint recover the surface applied. It is wanted to recover the surface with two applications 2. Easily applicable: 3. Resistant to physical effects 4. Resistant to chemical effects (saop, cola, oil) 5. It should be resistant to athmosferic and special situations like rain, sun 6. It should be decorative
  • 22.  Which wheather condition is suitable for painting?  Synthetic paints: It is not recommended to paint less than +5°c. At the +15 °c, the drying duration decrease by third times. Less than +0 °c, drying duration increases 8-10 days.
  • 23.  Plastic paints (PVA, akrilik paints): It is not recommended to be painted under +5 °c. Because the connectors of paints lose their film structure and become dry. So they can be affected by rain.  Exterior paints: Exterior parts should be painted under +20 +30 °c and can dry within 6-8 hours  +10°c : can be affected within 24 hours  +5°c: within 36 hours
  • 24. The important aspects of painting  Wheather conditions  Shaking the paint  Close the cap of paint when not used  Do not apply on the oiled or swelled surfaces  Apply two layer paint instead of one layer paint
