Rise Of Fascism

Course
Date
Fascism is a type of extremist, right wing, totalitarian and nationalist ideology which first emerged
during the beginning of the 20th century in Europe. The growth of fascism in Europe after the end
of the First World War was caused by a combination of the socio economic and political conditions
which enabled Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler to come to power over the period prior to the
Second World War. Indeed, Blinkhorn comments that European fascismis, and always will be,
inextricably associated with the years between the end of the First World War and the end of the
Second (Blinkhorn 7). These conditions saw the development of nationalist ideologies and the
emergence of the fascist party in Italy and the National Socialist Party in Germany.
The main features of fascism as implemented by Mussolini and Hitler were based on nationalist,
expansionist foreign policies in combination with domestic policies which boosted the economy
and raised living standards. Indeed, Gentile comments that fascism in both Italy and Germany
wanted to conquer new countries and spread the empire of the totalitarian new civilization all over
the New Europe (Gentile 181). The direct actions of both Mussolini and Hitler in ... Show more

The emergence of fascism during the early 20th century provides people of today with several
lessons to prevent a similar example of this kind of racial discrimination from ever happening again
in the future. Indeed, understanding how the ideology of fascism emerged while comprehending
how that period of history has contributed to the modern world is important to people to today
because it can help to prevent oppressive or tyrannical extremist nationalist regimes from becoming

Factors That Influence Tsarina Alexandra Had On Tsar...
The fall of the Romanovs can be put down to a number of factors, one of them being the
influence Tsarina Alexandra had on Tsar Nicholas II. Due to her close relationship with the Tsar
she was able to influence and manipulate him in a number of ways and convinced him to hold on
to his autocratic power no matter what. As a result of her intervention she can be seen as a
significant figure in the fall of the autocratic system. Her significance can be measured by a number
of factors such as her relationship with the Tsar and the influence she had over him, her relationship
with the Russian people as a result of her German roots, and finally her relationship with the monk
Rasputin and the influence he had over both the Tsarina and the Tsar. The

Although it was the Tsar s actions that lead to many riots and fuelled the fire for revolution, he
made those decisions because of the Tsarina and her influence. She had no political knowledge
but that didn t stop her from getting involved, she was a firm believer that the Tsar deserved his
autocratic power and it was the will of God that he was in the position he was in. This belief led
her to encourage him to ignore many people who could have potentially helped preserve the
autocratic system by helping the Tsar make sensible decisions regarding the situation at hand. The
fact that the Tsarina assumed an active political role later on and would often let Rasputin to get
involved was a major factor in bringing about the fall of the Romanovs. She was unpopular as it
was, but by attempting to make such big decisions without the advice of the Duma, she was in fact
destroying the autocratic system rather than saving it as she thought she was doing. Not only did
she continue to encourage the Tsar to ignore all others, she often undermined his authority by
overruling decisions made by him. By getting involved in the way she did, she only further
increased her own popularity but was also starting to unintentionally take the Tsar down with

Angell s Belief in Functionalism and John Watson s Belief...
It was also suggested by Angell(1913) that consciousness was best if forgotten and there should be
a objective method of describing animal and human behavior but also believed that if it were to
exist , it should definitely be of some use for an organism .
The statement also suggests that it was not only John Watson the founder of behaviorism who
proposed the idea rather it was thought about before him. His rise and influence was probably
because of introducing the idea at a time when it could be accepted by the time and tide of that
period.
Psychology had been the study of mind from a very long time and was represented by the method of
introspection defined as studying the mind by analyzing the thoughts.
Angell s functionalism aimed to apply psychology and its methods to real life problems however
the problem with both structuralism and functionalism was that the methods were not reliable and
introspection was considered to be a problem rather than a solution.
Psychology could not convince people of its usefulness and practical problem and the founder of
behaviorism John Watson believed that both structuralism and functionalism were subjective and
introduced behaviorism as objective. (Moore ,2011) which was considered to be a transformation
from one phase of science to another . (Gardner ,1985)
Behaviorism has been believed to influence everyday life from parenting and learning to employee
perks in organizations. It aims to study behavior and how it can be changed, it

Signet Jewelers Case Study
Signet Jewelers Limited, modern day s largest producer, distributor, and retailer of diamond
jewelry, is an extensive company spread over several branches of stores. The current Chief
Executive Officer of this company is Virginia C. Drosos, who the company appointed into her new
position on the first of August, 2017, in the place of Mark Light, who shortly prior had stepped
down. Despite the fact that Signet Jewelers is a very prominent seller in America, boasting several
thousand stores both within and without malls across the country, its center is located in Hamilton,
Bermuda, putting it in British territory. From there operates one of the most successful jewelry
companies in recent history.
Signet Jewelers claims its origins as a single jewelry store in Surrey, England, first opened in 1949
by Leslie Ratner. From this small beginning point, the company slowly acquired a host of other
successful jewelry chains, making it increasingly powerful and prominent. At first, all these chains
were in England, but eventually, it branched out to America as well, the country would eventually
prove to be its most successful market, and likely saved the company when, in the early 1990s, the
company seemed to hit a dead end. After a few years of rough and dubious times, in which the
company nearly rid itself of its failing UK branch, Signet Jewelers at last resurfaced and returned
to power with a vengeance, even acquiring another jewelry chain after roughly a decade of
stagnancy. From

Why Are Stereotypes Dangerous and What Can Be Done to...
Why Are Stereotypes Dangerous and What Can Be Done to Reduce Them? Very often, in our
everyday life, we tend to make certain generalizations about things and people around us. This is
because we are constantly exposed to heaps of information, and in order to cope with the
complexity of the world around us, we need to generalize and categorize.[1] Sometimes we do
this on purpose, with some intention. However, very often we do this subconsciously, unaware of
what we are doing. Many people generalize on others according to their clothes, profession, origin,
way of speaking, and many other, outer markers. This sort of thinking could be very dangerous,
and it can lead us to creating stereotypes. Stereotype is a term... Show more content on

To prove this to be true, some of my colleagues and me had some people from our environment
interviewed on this topic. It is interesting that most of them had similar answers, and almost
everyone said the English were reserved, snobbish, and even evil. Americans were fat and
stupid, self centered. Although none of them would admit to be stereotyping, they all somehow
knew this was true. Many of them, when asked if they would ever live in these countries
responded negativelly, because the people were bad. Thus they had some prejudices formed
against these people, and did not want to do anything to help them understand and appreciate the
other culture. Discrimination When the stereotypes we have formed last for too long in our
minds, they can grow and develop into something more serious than prejudice. This is when we
start acting and treating other people in a different, often bad and inhumane way.[7] This is
another possible danger of using stereotypes, which is called discrimination. There are many
different types of discrimination, based on appearance, age, nationality, sex, etc. One of the most
common forms of discrimination is based on a well known stereotype found in many movies,
magazines, and even in cartoons. It is the stereotype of a dumb blonde. [8] It is an image of a girl
who is physically attractive, but lacks brains. This stereotype is so powerful, that very often all

Odds To Identify Obstacles
Multiply 2,345 by 3.40089 and quickly pop out an answer. Odds are you can t do it. Now with a
pad of paper and pencil write it down and figure it out. Odds are now you can come up with an
answer. Why? Because you know the formula! If you know the formula then it really doesn t matter
what the goal is.
You absolutely must have goals if you want to be successful. There is a saying, show me a stock
clerk with a goal and ill show you a stock clerk who will make history. Show me a person without
a goal and I ll show you a stock clerk. You can choose to set goals and realize your potential or
you can choose not to set them and understand that the consequences are not going to be good
down the road. I bet you know a bunch of people who are going to do or are meaning to do a whole
bunch of things. Goals do not care who has them.

There are going to be setbacks. As long as overall progress occurs over time then you are fine. If
you put on two pounds one week instead of losing two pounds, if a person leaves your
organization, if someone promises you they would show up at the meeting and doesn t show, don
t get discouraged and over react. Just know ahead of time that being an independent person means
you will indeed have set backs and it is at no fault of your own. Now if you cheated to frequently
on your diet, or you did something to scare someone out of your organization that is different.
Otherwise setbacks come with the territory of independence. the MAJOR problem with letting a

The Great Cat Massacre Analysis
Overall, the argument of The Great Cat Massacre was that a historian could use the writings of a
particular point in history to determine the psychology of the people of that time. In this case, it
was of the French people in the decades before the French Revolution. Like Natalie Zemon Davis,
Darnton claimed he had the ability to know the mental landscape of the people he studied,
understanding their motives based on the few words that were placed before him. But is this
determination of a people s mindset possible? How much of the catmassacre was Darnton s
thoughts and beliefs and how much were of the people he was studying? The truth is that there is
no way of knowing what is history and what is Darnton s perception of history. Like Davis,
Darnton ran the fine line of telling history as it was, and using that history to support his own
beliefs and opinions, and the critics, as before, had a problem with this practice.
Roger Chartier, in his article Text, Symbols, and Frenchness, began his argument with the belief
that Darnton gave the incident of the cat massacre too many levels of meaning. How could this one
act be a statement about the treatment of the workers, the practice of witchcraft, the cuckolding of
a husband, and a critique of the new lifestyles of the masters all at one time? Chartier starts his
argument against this interpretation by criticizing Darnton s use of a modern definition of symbol.
Chartier believed that, anyone concerned primarily with

The fact that the city is state of the art and high tech does not help Anderton in his escape. Every
step he takes is monitored, and eyes record movement. In one scene, Anderton gets on board a
train, and looks up to a machine (an eye dent scanner), which scans his eyes and identifies him.
This is when he realises that he will not be safe in his own city. He decides to take drastic action he
decides that he will go and get his eyes changed.
Sight is a main theme for the film. Anderton cannot escape the Precrime unit with his own eyes,
everywhere he goes he will be identified, so he has to somehow get new eyes. He goes to a man
who replaces his eyes with someone else s and Anderton is now slightly safer. He is informed
that he cannot remove the bandages that are covering his new eyes for twenty four hours, which
poses a problem when the flat that he is staying in to recover is invaded by spyders (Small
mechanical critters that work in the same way as the machine on the train.). These creatures are
relentless and seek heat. So, Anderton tries to lower his body temperature by filling a bathtub with
water and ice, and he climbs into it. The spyders eventually find him, and they pull at his
bandages, and scan his eyes. He is not identified as Jon Anderton and so the spyders leave.

A Comparison of Jack London and Stephen Crane.
A Comparison of Jack London and Stephen Crane.
Jack London and Stephen Crane were both well known literary naturalists who died at relatively
early ages. Despite having lived such a short life, Jack London lived a full life. He has achieved
wide popularity abroad, with his work being translated into more than fifty languages, as well as
having written fifty literary works in eighteen years. His stories in the naturalistic mode still
continue to influence writers today. Stephen Crane was also an accomplished writer as well as a
poet. He was among the first to express in writing a new way of looking at the world. Although
Crane is also seen as one of the first American naturalistic writers, a Symbolist, and Imagist, the

Imagery is another important element which London uses to illustrate and emphasize his theme.
In To Build a Fire Earl Labor sees the mood and atmosphere, which is conveyed through
repetitive imagery of cold and gloom and whiteness, as being the key to the story s impact (63).
London does rely heavily on imagery to set the mood of the story, and in this way he draws a
picture of the harsh environment that his character must endure. London uses imagery with
such skill that the reader can almost feel the deadly cold of the environment and can almost hear
the sharp, explosive crackle when the man s spit would freeze in mid air (119). Through the use
of such vivid imagery, London guides the reader toward the realization of the story s theme; the
reader can visualize the man losing in his battle with the frost and therefor can picture man in
his conflict with a cruel and uncaring universe (128). Symbolism is also an important element in
To Build a Fire . David Mike Hamilton s criticism, he says the fire symbolizes life as does the
white snow that falls at the beginning of the story. He also views the dark point in the midst of
the stamped snow, foretelling the end of the fire, and thus of life (2). I strongly agree with
Hamilton s criticism; the dark point in the midst of the stamped snow because it not only foretells
the end of the fire but of the end of life itself. Stephen Crane uses numerous techniques to capture

Describe what you did.
This week we went a little bit more into the actual process of constructing an inverted index and
how to implement the handling of misspellings, the accuracy of retrievals based on context, and the
structures of resulting indexes for the purpose of searching them. For the discussion assignment, I
needed to cover the differences between BSBI and SPIMI. For our programming assignment, we
needed to make some alterations to a SPIMI python program to create an index and list of
documents.
Describe your reactions to what you did.

between a BSBI and SPIMI, I m a little confused as to why you would use a BSBI except in
situations where there are some very specific hardware ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am feeling pretty good about the class still. A lot of the techniques we are learning about for
efficient, accurate, and helpful searching of a corpus I find very interesting. I need to take some
more time to review the indexer Python code we were supplied so I feel completely comfortable
with how it is achieving the indexing.
Describe what you learned.
Particularly the handling of misspelled search terms or wildcard items was the thing that I feel like
I really took away from this week. Certainly, the index creation techniques were learned but I think
that to really strongly grasp those I just need to get more hands on experience with their
implementation. The things I learned about for managing search terms I feel like I could, at least
conceptually, immediately apply.
What surprised me or caused me to wonder?
I found the technique of the permuterm indexing especially of note. While it seems like it results in
a massive index it was interesting to think of how that could be applied along with other ideas to
mitigate human imperfections for searches.
What happened that felt particularly challenging? Why was it challenging to

The IQ Debate Essay
Intelligence can be defined in many different ways. This concept has been the focus of numerous
studies and investigations by psychologists and other scientific experts. Intelligence can be the
mental ability to reason, plan ahead, understand a wide range of complex issues and learn from past
experiences (Gottfredson, 1997). Intelligenceis the resultant of the process of acquiring, storing in
memory, retrieving, combining, comparing, and using in new contexts information and conceptual
skills (Humphreys, 1979)
Intelligence is commonly measured through the use of a number of scales and quantitative
measures, like the Intelligence Quotient (IQ), developed by Alfred Binet in early 20th century to
identify which French children needed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Far right commentators generally support this argument, which has been supported by the findings
of a number of researches, including those led by Professor Robert Plomin (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2
/hi/health/850358.stm). They have also utilised these arguments to explain a wide range of social
phenomena, including crime. Other experts have strongly disagreed with this view, arguing that
intelligence levels are directly related to situational factors. Environmental factors like the quality
of the education system can have a very significant influence in the development of intelligence.
Situational factors have been used by psychologists to explain a wide range of phenomena. A great
number of sociologists, psychologists and criminologist have studied the circumstances and
background that makes crime possible, in order to identify the main reasons and causes of crime
by looking at the learning process that generates crime. The use of IQ to explain deviancy and
crime has greatly influenced the debates of psychologists in this respect.
In this respect, studies like those carried out by Sutherland have looked at the role played by
psychological issues and disorders. The Differential Association Theory was a theory on crime and
deviancy developed by Edwin Sutherland during the thirties. Unlike other experts like Eleanor and
Sheldon Glueck, who stated that deviancy is generated by numerous factors, Sutherland

How Does Kim Kardashian Deserve To Be Famous
Does Kim Kardashian really deserve to be famous?
We all know it s no lie that fame is one of the greatest things one can achieve, but do some people
really deserve the amount of fame that they have? I mean, I know there are many different ways
in which one can grab the fame at any given opportunity... but leaking your private life to the
whole world is just a step too far if you ask me. Some may say it s desperate, some may say it s not
her fault that the sex tape got leaked but others may then say she thrives off it. Does Kim
Kardashian really deserve to be famous?
It s like a simple equation on how the Kardashians gained fame; Kim Kardashian has sex with Ray

antics of Kim? I m sure she is a loving mother, but your child comes before your publicity. Let s

Most Common Tools Present During The Lower Palaeolithic...
Oldowan and Acheulean stone tools were the most common tools present during the Lower
Palaeolithic period. These tools were the earliest evidence of cultural behaviour that is present
among us Homo sapiens now. The Oldowan and Acheulean artefacts is an important breakthrough
in early human prehistory. For the past two and a half million years, the ability to make and use
tools is a skill that has allowed humankind to thrive by making increasingly more efficient use of the
resources in the environment. For the majority of this time, two of the most important tools have
been the Oldowanchopper and the Acheuleanhandaxe. In this essay I will be talking about Oldowan
tools, Acheulean tools, and then I will compare the Oldowan tools to the Acheulean tools and see
what the differences and similarities there are between these two stone toolindustries. Hence, I will
be mentioning about the early Homo behavioural adaptations such as diet, ranging patterns, and the
possible development of social behaviour that were present during the era of these stone tools.
Oldowan stone tools are the world s oldest stone tool industry; dating back to 2.5 million years
ago. The Oldowan stone tool industry was used by Homo habilis. The Oldowan stone tool
industry was first found by Louis Leakey and Mary Leakey at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania, at the
site Gona in Ethiopia, hence the name Oldowan. By being a cobble stone technology, these tools
were formed by breaking off a few flakes from a pebble

Missing: Any Challenge for the Common Good, brings to the attention of how todays tactic of
running things has become more than a little undermining. The presidential campaign of 2016 has

American is entertainment and personal profit. Shields uses the line, Our culture has devalued

appeal for the common good has been distorted and is now a blur that we look past. Another
problem that we are facing is the fact that we are all under the influence. All of the big voices that

What Does Sin Symbolize In The Scarlet Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne emphasizes symbolism using elements of nature that represent good vs. evil,
sin, and continual rebellion against Puritan society. The basis of Nathaniel s writing style is
symbolism and allegory, (where concrete objects usually have a hidden meaning). The symbolism
found most importantly throughout the novel so far would be light, darkness, and the rose bush,
all found in nature. Symbolism is present throughout the entire novel. The author uses light as a
symbol of good or evil. In the Puritan community, it may be believed that light will shine on those
who have not sinned. The others not in the light are certainly sinners and should not have beauty.
A true example of showing that Hester no longer remains in the sin free light is, Her prison door
was thrown open and she came forth into the sunshine, which, falling on all alike, seemed, to her
sick and morbid heart, as if meant for no other purpose than to reveal the scarlet letter on her...

For the characters in the novel, they seem to separate the town into two main areas. One being
the Puritan community town, tight knit and connected, free of sin, and the other being the
forest. The forest is dark and has major characters of sin in it such as the Devil, Roger
Chillingworth (spending years in the forest with Native Americans), and now holds the residence
of Hester Prynne, all symbols of darkness. A quote that is important to represent the dark forest is
when Hester and Pearl are leaving the governor s hall. It shows the importance of what the forest
truly represents stating, Wilt thou go with us tonight? There will be a merry company in the
forest; and I well nigh promised the Black Man that comely Hester Prynne should make one, said

so no more undesirable elements would be born (Ibid 123). However, both men and women were

This section of Chalmers book makes the reader ponder the morality of medical experiments like
abortions, stem cell research, and infanticide in the world today and questions whether we have
learned from Nazi medical experiments in the past.
The second section of Beverly Chalmers book, Birth, Sex and Abuse, deals with sexuality among
Germans and sexual abuse among Jewish women. Chalmers provides interesting information on
how the Nazi s banned homosexuality, birth control, and feminist organizations (Ibid 145).
Chalmers outlines that the goals of the Nazi party by repressing sexuality like homosexuals and
feminist movements was to promote pronatalist policies like reproduction so women could bear
more children for the superior Aryan race. Chalmers extensive study of brothels in concentration
camps interested me because I did not realize the SS allowed prostitution inside concentration
camps and the majority of these women were Germans because Jewish women were not allowed to
be prostitutes due to the Rassenschande laws. Chalmers study of German women in brothels
broadens the traditional study of the Holocaust because rather than always focusing on non German
women s experiences it allows people that study the Holocaust to examine how German women

Effects Of Artificial Gravity
Artificial gravity is an application of force, resulting from acceleration, that creates a sense of
gravity. It is often used in space to counteract the effects of weightlessness in astronauts.
Artificial gravity can be created in many ways; for example, centripetal force, a force that makes
a body follow a curved path, can cause artificial gravity. If a spaceship was to rotate from its
center, the force of rotation would push the astronaut in the opposite direction, causing the
astronaut to experience an outwards force similar to gravity on Earth. The gravity can be
calculated by using the radius between the center of rotation to the astronaut. The larger the
radius, the larger the force, or artificial gravity, the astronaut would experience. Think of it as
spinning on one of the spinning seats often found on playgrounds. The farther you lean your
body out of the seat (increasing your radius from the center), the larger force you feel and the
more likely you are to fly off. In addition, there are many reasons why astronauts need the sense
of artificial gravity. The main reason would be the person s health. Humans have evolved to live
on the earth, with a presence of gravity; once that presence is gone, the human body can
experience several different effects. For example, muscle and skeleton deterioration can occur.
When floating in space, an astronaut does not use their body s muscles like on earth; they don t put
the same stresses on their back muscles, or their knee

Edgar Allan Poe Alone
Have you ever wondered what it s like to lose your entire family? In the poem Alone written by
Edgar Allan Poe, it tells a story about an adult looking back on his childhood. This poem is a real
reflection of Poe s life and experiences, when he was younger, he lost pretty much his entire
family like his parents, his foster mother and wife died and he was raised by a stern man who was
angry about Poe writing poetry, which as a result he became isolated and secluded. Poe was an
American writer and is best known for his poetry and short stories. The main themes in the poem
are isolation and depression. It can relate to today s youth by being illustrated of one s solitude in

This poem has used effective techniques and used themes such as depression and isolation, that
most people forget that it is a big issue. We all need to educate ourselves about depression, it has
reached epidemic proportions and we need to be more aware of the possibility that we may
know someone who is suffering from depression. I hope we can find something that helps and
guides us to know the correct things to say, rather than focusing only on what not to say to
someone suffering from this serious illness, such as helping Poe with his depression. In the end
Poe still haven t found what he was searching for, time has passed and his life will still remain a

The Chinese government shall consider establishing a unified old age insurance system. To be more
specific, migrant workers shall have old age insurance schemes that feature a mixed model with
both personal accounts and a public fund; they shall be entitled to monthly old age benefits after
retirement; and the government must provide them better legal protection regarding old age
insurance benefits [33]. Other policy recommendations regarding improving the social security

3.International Experience
Population aging has been a global issue. According to the United Nations statistics, population
aging is occurring throughout the world. In 2015, there are 901 million people aged 60 or over,
comprising 12% of the global population. The population aged 60 or above is growing at a rate of
3.26% per year. It is projected that by 2050, the global population of all major areas of the world
except Africa will have nearly a quarter or more of their populations aged 60 or over. [37]
Population aging can be expected to have far reaching economic, social and political implications,
and many governments are consider increasing the statutory ages at retirement in an effort to
prolong the labor force participation of older persons and improve the financial sustainability of
pension systems. At the same time, population aging and growth in the number of persons at very

Nafta Tariff Barriers
In poster #1 you can see that with tariffs down means trade will increase. This is represented by
the words tariff and trade. The word tariff is written in red to signify a negative connotation, it
also has an arrow pointing down meaning that the tariffs are lowering. The word trade is in
green for a positive connotation and has an arrow pointing up to mean that trade is increasing
because of the lowered tariffs. An increase in trade is what stimulates countries benefitting off
comparative advantages. This increase in trade has had many benefits for all countries
involved. With an increase in trade the price of goods in America decreases, making it easier for
low income households to afford the products they need. Not only are the prices lower but with
the rise in competition the quality of the goods and services are increased as well. This is
demonstrated in poster #2, which says that low prices means happy consumers. The meaning of
the poster is that because of lower prices more consumers can lead happier lives. NAFTA is not
only improving trade but quality of life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this trade between these neighboring countries has quadrupled in the last twenty

advantages. A comparative advantage is when a certain country has a lower opportunity cost for
production of a certain good or service. An Opportunity cost is what is given up in order to use a
country s resources to do one thing instead of another. Which means the country can make more of
that good/service than other countries while using less resources. Therefore when a country has a
comparative advantage they should put more of their resources for production into that good or
service. This helps out all economies involved because using specialization will help have high
quality goods and services for lower

The Abu Ghraib is to toughen up prisoners who misbehaved. Nobody would ve known about Abu

cruel environment without clear rules. Dr. Zimbardo put an ad in the paper for healthy male
volunteers. With the flip of a coin they decided who would imitate the guards and who would
imitate the prisoners. The guards wore all khaki, with sunglasses. An imitation guard said, If you

the experiment. They also got a chain and lock around their one foot to remind them, that their
freedom was lost . Each day the simulated guards would taunt the fake prisoners. Experimental
prisoner number 8612, was the first to have an emotional breakdown. The fourth day in, things got

Cushing s Syndrome is a condition that results from chronic exposure to excessive amounts of
glucocorticoids circulating in the blood stream for an extended period of time. The disease was first

endocrinologists today. Reasons for this difficulty include the vast amount of often vague
symptoms that the syndrome presents, most of which are found in a plethora of other conditions as

With Cushings syndrome, this cycle is disrupted, resulting in an excess of circulating cortisol. There
are multiple mechanisms that can disrupt the cycle and they can be classified as either ACTH
dependent or ACTH independent Cushings Syndrome. The most common form of Cushings
Syndome is an ACTH dependent form called Cushings Disease. This type accounts for two thirds of
cushings syndrome and is the result of either an adenoma or carcinoma on the pituitary gland. The
tumor causes overproduction of ACTH, resulting in increased release of cortisol from the adrenal
gland. ACTH dependent Cushings Syndrome can also result from ectopic tumors that cause
overproduction of ACTH or CRH. The most frequent is small cell lung carcinoma (12% of patients
develop Cushings syndrome). A final type of ACTH dependent cushings syndrome is from
exogenous ACTH administration, typically the use of synthetic steroids. ACTH independent
Cushings Syndrome typically originates from abnormalities of the adrenal gland. Adrenal adenoma
and adrenal carcinoma occur when there is a benign or cancerous tumor on the adrenal gland.
These tumors can cause over production of cortisol, disrupting homeostasis. Other diseases like
Carney complex and McCune Albright syndrome have also been associated with abnormalities of
the adrenal gland, causing overproduction of cortisol. A final form of cushings syndrome is
exogenous glucocorticoid administration.

Growing Up Of A Predominantly Poor Community And A Third...
Afika James
Final paper
Sped 704
Growing up in a predominantly poor community in a third world country like St. Vincent and the
Grenadines, my parents expressed the importance of acquiring an education as the only way out of
poverty. My mom worked hard so that she had enough money saved for us all to migrate to the
United States of America. In that instance I am sure that my story is similar to that of many other
immigrants. The myth that poor people are unmotivated and have low work ethics is sometimes
still prevalent. Poor people do not have a poorer work ethic or lower levels of motivation. Low
income households are just as concerned about children s learning as any other household.
However, lack of resources and less time to focus on homework due to multiple jobs cause parents
to have less involvement in schoolwork. After moving to the United States, having an accent that
sometimes made me difficult to understand caused to seclude myself and not participate in
classrooms. Children laughed and pointed me out. I was not an English Language Learner but my
dialect made me aware of just a little part of the world of English Language Learners in the
classroom.
English language learners and ELLSEs may be similar but they are also quite different. Both are
considered to be emergent bilinguals. The students who are ELL s will most likely have trouble
with instruction in a new language, but if taught in their home language they will better be able to

The Roaring Girl Essay
The Roaring Girl
Though its primary function is usually plot driven as a source of humor and a means to effect
changes in characters through disguise and deception cross dressing is also a sociological motif
involving gendered play. My earlier essay on the use of the motif in Shakespeare s plays pointed
out that cross dressing has been discussed as a symptom of a radical discontinuity in the meaning
of the family (Belsey 178), as cul tural anxiety over the destabilization of the social hierarchy
(Baker, Howard, Garber), as the means for a woman to be assertive without arousing hostility
(Claiborne Park), and as homoerotic arousal (Jardine). This variety of interpretations suggests the
multivoiced character of the motif, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That the disguise is dropped in most renaissance plays as part of reassuring a con ventional
audience or as part of the enactment of a process of gender individuation (Greenblatt 92) does not
invalidate the insistent metaphor which is the ground of the re presentation; nor does this kind of
claim account for other uses to which poets put the motif during this period.
Second, the transvestism of the English renaissance theatre creates a space of possibility for
structuring and confounding culture as well as enacting a category crisis which reflects a potential
destabilization of the dominant hierarchy (Garber 16, 17). Greenblatt points out that the enactment
of such difference is an instrument to increase audience anxiety before reifying the normative and
conventional in the play s res olution, a pattern played out in The Merchant of Venice, As You Like
It, and Twelfth Night; yet this cannot account for the defiant and yet compassionate resolution of
Dek ker s The Roaring Girl, where the mannishly clad Moll blesses the marriage of Sebastian and
Mary Fitz Allard and their reconciliation with their fathers, at the same time refusing the
conventional solution for herself.
Third, Vern and Bonnie Bullough claim that cross dressing has signified both homosexualand
heterosexual patterns at various times in history (viii), but as

until the arrival of the Spanish in 1524. The Maya area covers southern Mexico and northwestern
Central America. According to Sharer the area is divided into three regions: the Pacific coastal
plain to the south, the highlands in the center, and the lowlands to the north. Even though these
three regions were under the same civilization they all practiced different religious rituals. Religion
plays a big role in every civilization. Some civilizations tend to praise more than one god and they

often say that their god is punishing them because they did something that the god/s did not like.

Music And The Negative Effects Of Heavy Metal Music
Heavy metal music is often criticized for being a negative influence due to the lyrical content and
aesthetics of the genre. For those unfamiliar with heavy metal, it is easy to make this correlation
because of the darker and often taboo subject matter present throughout the music. With a little
more analysis, however, it can be discovered that these same aspects thought to be negative actually
bring forth positive results among metal listeners. What is found in heavy metal musicis actually a
display of emotions and energy that often have a purging effect which helps listeners of metal cope
with the constantly changing world around them. Heavy metal is used as a tool for expressing
emotion in a nonviolent way, rather than through physical destruction sought by some other genres.
Heavy metal is a lot like an experiment to the people who do not understand it or those who
dislike it. They look at it as a disgrace, dissect it, run tests on it, and analyze the results in order to
get ammunition to put it down.
Researchers from the University of Queensland in Australia have found that when volunteers were
exposed to extreme music genres including heavy metal, emo, hardcore, punk, and screamo, they
actually experienced a range of positive feelings, such as calmness, happiness or being inspired.

The Decision For Us Federal Antitrust Law
In seeking to understand the Supreme Court s judgement in Leegin, two questions immediately
come to mind. Firstly, why would the manufacturer seek to establish a minimum retail price for its
product? Secondly, what are the consequences for consumer welfare, if the manufacturer succeeds
in maintaining a higher retail price?. The first part of this paper attempts to answer these questions
whilst deliberating on the majority and minority judgements of the US Supreme Court in Leegin
and the significance of the decision for US federal antitrust law. The second part of this paper
compares the US Federal and EU approaches to RPM. Several economic theories postulate
enhanced consumer welfare as a reason why a manufacturer might endorse a policy... Show more

The economic logic of RPM is to redirect retailers competitive activities from prices to customer
service. Factors such as price, quality, design and customer service on the part of retailers affect the
demand for differentiated consumer goods. Therefore, by assuring resellers that they will not face
discount price competition from other resellers of the same brand, minimum RPM agreements
encourage retailers to invest in services or promotional efforts to sell that brand against competing
brands. So although RPM may diminish intra brand price competition among retailers selling the
same brand, Grimes argues that it compensates for this by enhancing inter brand competition
between retailers as a result of the increase in intra brand service competition . Affirming this
theory, the Supreme Court recognized in Continental TV that, when inter brand competition
exists......, it provides a significant check on the exploitation of inter brand market power because
of the ability of consumers to substitute a different brand of the same product . Mathewson and
Winter suggest that increased consumer demand due to enhanced retail services , elicited through a
protected retail margin, will more than offset a negative impact on demand of a higher retail price.
Thus, RPM allows manufacturer to influence the supply of retail service by controlling its retailers
margins, thereby using retail service as an instrument of inter brand competition. This

Big Dat An Essential Part Of Every Business Operation
Introduction:
You may have heard the term Big Data often these days and the importance of analytics attached to
it. The availability of good data set and analytics of it provide organizations ability to understand
consumer behavior and future prospects. This has now become an essential part of every business
operation. Data itself is not a new thing to humans, written records have been in existence since 4th
millennium BC. What has changed recently is that with digital inventions and significant growth in
internet access, most people are on the electronic grid for longer periods and spending lot of time
on emails, messaging, entertainment and social media applications. This huge growth in data

For most organizations, data analysis is a challenging task, as first it require dealing with both
structured and unstructured forms of data. Then an organization may have to deal with data
stored across many separate silos (as various groups such as sales marketing; operations and
supply chain management etc., may have separate IT systems). It is also quite possible that most
of the silo systems do not talk to each other, this is especially true of the legacy platforms which
may have technical challenges in connecting to each other or may require use of special software
interfaces. Lastly the volume of data is large to process and the traditional tools may not be
effective to do such analysis. To handle various types of data (structured and unstructured) and large
data volumes, many vendors have developed specialized software which can perform predictive
analysis, data mining, forecasting and optimization. Together these tools are referred to as high
performance analytics.
In comparison to the traditional business intelligence, big data does provide major improvements.
Traditional business intelligence is top down approach whereas big data is bottom up and
empowers end users with a valuable analysis thus enabling them to take prompt and smart
business decisions. The value generated from big data analytics is applicable to all sectors. The
advantages of big data analytics are huge but it also raise serious concerns

Lesbians, just like women in heterosexual relationships are subjected to physical, sexual and verbal

The Thematic Concept Of Fear In Beowulf And Gilgamesh
Overall Introduction:
For years, literature has been used to teach us important morals and life lessons. These life lessons
are often universal in nature. This means that no matter what age, gender, or status a person is,
anyone can relate to the theme being discussed. For this reason they are called universal themes.
Non universal themes are themes that are specific to the story being told, but are not considered
universally understood. The following demonstrates that Beowulf and Gilgamesh both have the
same universal thematic statement concept of fear in addition to a multiple non universal themes
throughout them.
Thematic Discussion When looking at the universal theme Gilgamesh and Beowulf, the thematic
concept is fear. The thematic statement for this universal theme would be: In literature, as well as
in real life, man often my come up against someone or something he fears and then must decide
whether or not they will act in cowardly or courageous way . The thematic concept for Beowulf that
is a non universal theme would be political generosity. The thematic statement would be that: In
Beowulf, one can see how generosity and hospitality were considered very important to the Danish
culture. However, this not considered a universal theme, because although generosity and
hospitality may have been considered very important attributes at the time Beowulf was written, not
every culture of the time considered these nicetes to be of the highest importance. The thematic

Deer Or Elk Carcass
In Nevada, a deer or elk carcass are disposed of in one of two ways: the head and spinal cord can be
buried, or disposed of at an approved landfill. There are no captive cervids in Nevada. Legislation
passed in 2005 does not allow captive cervid ranches in the state of Nevada. This also means that
no captive elk, white tailed deer, or mule deer ranches exist in the state (MI Department of Natural
Resources 2014).
Oregon
Although CWD has not been detected in Oregon, wildlife managers in the state are still actively
testing for this prion disease (Oregon Fish Wildlife website). Since 2002 2003, a total of 17,009
hunter harvested and targeted surveillance deer and elk have been tested statewide. As of October
2014, 3,113 black tailed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hunters that do not abide by these regulations can be cited with a misdemeanor (Hamway 2017).
As of November of 2002, the Oregon Fish Wildlife Commission issued a regulation imposing a
permanent ban on the importation of live cervids (except fallow deer or reindeer originating from
Oregon and used for educational or display purposes). This regulation was adopted as a risk
reduction measure involving the potential import of CWD and transmission of the disease to the
state s cervid populations (wild and farmed) (MI Department of Natural Resources 2014).
Since June 2009, captive cervid producers have been given the option to enroll in a Voluntary
CWD Monitored Herd program via an application to the Wildlife Division Administrator. As a
condition for monitored herd status, all captive North American deer and elk (6 months of age or
older) dying of any cause, must be sampled for CWD by a federally accredited veterinarian, or an
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife veterinarian or at a veterinary diagnostic laboratory by a
veterinary pathologist. Submissions [are] sent to National Veterinary Service Laboratories (NVSL)
by the accredited veterinarian or pathologist (MI Department of Natural Resources 2014). Also,

Distribution Channel Of Tata Motors
2.3Distribution
Distribution Channels
The distribution channel environment for automobiles in India is different from that of most
advanced countries. These differences exist in number of dealers, size and type of dealers,
functions of dealer, manufacturer dealer relationship, car supermarkets, vertical integration,
bookings, financing, number of cars sold per dealer, margins, and market environment. Because
customer has wide choice, most car dealers would have to adjust to the as per the need of the
customer. As far as Tata Motors is concerned and in the current automobile marketingsystem, the
dealer orders cars in advance in a `push system driven by the Tata Motor s agendas, and there after
the dealer has to bend the customer s requirements to existing stock. The typical ... Show more

Tata Motors first ship the products to their depot from where it is taken to a local distributor, who
then supplies to the retailers in that region, and finally sell it to the end customer. In some cases,
where the Tata Motors does not operate its own depots, it employs a carrying and forwarding agent
(C F), who then supplies to the local distributor. The roles of the above mentioned players in the
distribution channel are extremely important because most of the retail stores could stock only 5
10 units of a given stock and often stock competing brands of Tata Motors together in a small
space. As a result, it is the distributors and sales agents, who have to convince the retailer on
stocking their products as well as making sure that their items are sold in a timely fashion at the
retail stores. A local distributor may have 5% to 10% margin, while a C F agent may have 2% to
4%. The final price has to be paid by the customer and multiple layers in the distribution network

Characteristics Of Shakespearean Tragedy
2. SHAKESPEAREAN TRAGEDY
Shakespearean tragedy is the title given to most tragedies written by the playwright William
Shakespeare. Shakespearean tragedy began, roughly speaking, with marked indebtedness to the
tragic writing of Marlowe and Kyd: poetry, character, and style from Marlowe; motive, plot, and
tragic intensity from Kyd. No evidence suggests Shakespeare was ever particularly aware of or
influenced by, Aristotelian theories of tragedy . (Bevington, 1980) The plays we usually have in
mind when we think about Shakespearean tragedy are the classics like Titus Andronicus (written
between 1590 94), Romeo and Juliet (1594 96), Julius Caesar (1599), Hamlet (1599 1601), Othello
(1603 04), King Lear (1605), Macbeth (1606 07), Antony and Cleopatra (1606 07), and Coriolanus
(1608) derived from Plutarch. Troilus and Cressida, Timon of Athens, and Cymbeline were listed
as tragedies in the First Folio. Characteristics of a Shakespearean tragedy are found in many of his
histories, but since they are from real figures throughout England s history, they were classified as
histories in the First Folio. Exceptions from this are the Roman histories, also from historical
figures: Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, and Coriolanus.... Show more content on

(Gredina, forthcoming) I am most interested in the human nature of the characters and I chose these
three tragedies because their protagonists attracted my attention the most. Is Macbeth tempted to
sin by the weird sisters and his wife, or is the choice to murder Duncan ultimately his? To what
extent is man responsible for his tragic fate? (Bevington, 1980) The psychological aspect in his
tragedies is impressive. I think the most impressive thing is that even after more than 400 years we
can still study his characters and their decisions from different

Gin And Beer Dbq
aWhilst both are portraits of the streets of London during 1751, they are depicted in extremely
different ways. Firstly, Source 3(a) is of the people of London drinking beer along the streets in
which the artist is showing drinking beer to be a healthy and sociable activity. In addition, the artist
has shown this through various scenarios on the street with painters working paintingsigns in the
street, people socialising with each other, people being educated through books and the decaying
pawn broker due to lack of use. The artist has used this image to show that beer contributes to
people s wellbeing in a positive way. Contrastingly, Source 3(b) is showing the effects of gin on
society. To begin, the artist has depicted to people in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The graph clearly shows that gin was the drink of choice for a long time until prices rose in 1751
which caused the consumption of beer to spike. In conclusion, this source does not support the
proposition the problems of the eighteenth century London centred on the drinking of gin as it
makes no reference to the problems of the time, more showing the gin and beer drinking statistics.
Contrastingly, in Source 2, the author states reformers pointed to excessive gin drinking as the
cause of social unrest this statement supports the proposition. Additionally, this article also refers to
gin drinking being replacing food in people s diets whilst it did provide a large amount of calories it
lacked associated nutrients which may have led to malnutrition. Likewise, Source 3 majorly
supports the preposition as it is directly referring to the issues gin has caused within society. These
issues include poverty, irresponsible parenting, riots, malnutrition, starvation and homelessness.
Displayed as a visual representation, the author clearly communicates gin to be a prime reason for
the problems faced at the time. Lastly, in Source 4, the author is describing the alcohol as attacking
the economy people started to stop attending work due to the consistent alcoholism and hangovers.
Not to mention, this left no one to run businesses and keep civilisation running which resulted in
many issues for the government. In summary, this statement shows that Source 4 supports the
proposition by regarding gin drinking as the primary reason for economic

  • 2. Rise Of Fascism Student Professor Course Date Fascism is a type of extremist, right wing, totalitarian and nationalist ideology which first emerged during the beginning of the 20th century in Europe. The growth of fascism in Europe after the end of the First World War was caused by a combination of the socio economic and political conditions which enabled Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler to come to power over the period prior to the Second World War. Indeed, Blinkhorn comments that European fascismis, and always will be, inextricably associated with the years between the end of the First World War and the end of the Second (Blinkhorn 7). These conditions saw the development of nationalist ideologies and the emergence of the fascist party in Italy and the National Socialist Party in Germany. The main features of fascism as implemented by Mussolini and Hitler were based on nationalist, expansionist foreign policies in combination with domestic policies which boosted the economy and raised living standards. Indeed, Gentile comments that fascism in both Italy and Germany wanted to conquer new countries and spread the empire of the totalitarian new civilization all over the New Europe (Gentile 181). • 3. Factors That Influence Tsarina Alexandra Had On Tsar... The fall of the Romanovs can be put down to a number of factors, one of them being the influence Tsarina Alexandra had on Tsar Nicholas II. Due to her close relationship with the Tsar she was able to influence and manipulate him in a number of ways and convinced him to hold on to his autocratic power no matter what. As a result of her intervention she can be seen as a significant figure in the fall of the autocratic system. Her significance can be measured by a number of factors such as her relationship with the Tsar and the influence she had over him, her relationship with the Russian people as a result of her German roots, and finally her relationship with the monk Rasputin and the influence he had over both the Tsarina and the Tsar. Although it was the Tsar s actions that lead to many riots and fuelled the fire for revolution, he made those decisions because of the Tsarina and her influence. She had no political knowledge but that didn t stop her from getting involved, she was a firm believer that the Tsar deserved his autocratic power and it was the will of God that he was in the position he was in. This belief led her to encourage him to ignore many people who could have potentially helped preserve the autocratic system by helping the Tsar make sensible decisions regarding the situation at hand. The fact that the Tsarina assumed an active political role later on and would often let Rasputin to get involved was a major factor in bringing about the fall of the Romanovs. She was unpopular as it was, but by attempting to make such big decisions without the advice of the Duma, she was in fact destroying the autocratic system rather than saving it as she thought she was doing. Not only did she continue to encourage the Tsar to ignore all others, she often undermined his authority by overruling decisions made by him. It was also suggested by Angell(1913) that consciousness was best if forgotten and there should be a objective method of describing animal and human behavior but also believed that if it were to exist , it should definitely be of some use for an organism . The statement also suggests that it was not only John Watson the founder of behaviorism who proposed the idea rather it was thought about before him. His rise and influence was probably because of introducing the idea at a time when it could be accepted by the time and tide of that period. Psychology had been the study of mind from a very long time and was represented by the method of introspection defined as studying the mind by analyzing the thoughts. Angell s functionalism aimed to apply psychology and its methods to real life problems however the problem with both structuralism and functionalism was that the methods were not reliable and introspection was considered to be a problem rather than a solution. Psychology could not convince people of its usefulness and practical problem and the founder of behaviorism John Watson believed that both structuralism and functionalism were subjective and introduced behaviorism as objective. (Moore ,2011) which was considered to be a transformation from one phase of science to another . (Gardner ,1985) Behaviorism has been believed to influence everyday life from parenting and learning to employee perks in organizations. It aims to study behavior and how it can be changed, it ... The current Chief Executive Officer of this company is Virginia C. Drosos, who the company appointed into her new position on the first of August, 2017, in the place of Mark Light, who shortly prior had stepped down. Despite the fact that Signet Jewelers is a very prominent seller in America, boasting several thousand stores both within and without malls across the country, its center is located in Hamilton, Bermuda, putting it in British territory. From there operates one of the most successful jewelry companies in recent history. Signet Jewelers claims its origins as a single jewelry store in Surrey, England, first opened in 1949 by Leslie Ratner. From this small beginning point, the company slowly acquired a host of other successful jewelry chains, making it increasingly powerful and prominent. At first, all these chains were in England, but eventually, it branched out to America as well, the country would eventually prove to be its most successful market, and likely saved the company when, in the early 1990s, the company seemed to hit a dead end. After a few years of rough and dubious times, in which the company nearly rid itself of its failing UK branch, Signet Jewelers at last resurfaced and returned to power with a vengeance, even acquiring another jewelry chain after roughly a decade of stagnancy. Very often, in our everyday life, we tend to make certain generalizations about things and people around us. This is because we are constantly exposed to heaps of information, and in order to cope with the complexity of the world around us, we need to generalize and categorize.[1] Sometimes we do this on purpose, with some intention. However, very often we do this subconsciously, unaware of what we are doing. Many people generalize on others according to their clothes, profession, origin, way of speaking, and many other, outer markers. This sort of thinking could be very dangerous, and it can lead us to creating stereotypes. Stereotype is a term... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To prove this to be true, some of my colleagues and me had some people from our environment interviewed on this topic. It is interesting that most of them had similar answers, and almost everyone said the English were reserved, snobbish, and even evil. Americans were fat and stupid, self centered. Although none of them would admit to be stereotyping, they all somehow knew this was true. Many of them, when asked if they would ever live in these countries responded negativelly, because the people were bad. Thus they had some prejudices formed against these people, and did not want to do anything to help them understand and appreciate the other culture. Discrimination When the stereotypes we have formed last for too long in our minds, they can grow and develop into something more serious than prejudice. This is when we start acting and treating other people in a different, often bad and inhumane way.[7] This is another possible danger of using stereotypes, which is called discrimination. There are many different types of discrimination, based on appearance, age, nationality, sex, etc. One of the most common forms of discrimination is based on a well known stereotype found in many movies, magazines, and even in cartoons. It is the stereotype of a dumb blonde. [8] It is an image of a girl who is physically attractive, but lacks brains. This stereotype is so powerful, that very often all blonde girls ... • 11. The Great Cat Massacre Analysis Overall, the argument of The Great Cat Massacre was that a historian could use the writings of a particular point in history to determine the psychology of the people of that time. In this case, it was of the French people in the decades before the French Revolution. Like Natalie Zemon Davis, Darnton claimed he had the ability to know the mental landscape of the people he studied, understanding their motives based on the few words that were placed before him. But is this determination of a people s mindset possible? How much of the catmassacre was Darnton s thoughts and beliefs and how much were of the people he was studying? The truth is that there is no way of knowing what is history and what is Darnton s perception of history. Like Davis, Darnton ran the fine line of telling history as it was, and using that history to support his own beliefs and opinions, and the critics, as before, had a problem with this practice. Roger Chartier, in his article Text, Symbols, and Frenchness, began his argument with the belief that Darnton gave the incident of the cat massacre too many levels of meaning. How could this one act be a statement about the treatment of the workers, the practice of witchcraft, the cuckolding of a husband, and a critique of the new lifestyles of the masters all at one time? Chartier starts his argument against this interpretation by criticizing Darnton s use of a modern definition of symbol. Chartier believed that, anyone concerned primarily with ... Imagery is another important element which London uses to illustrate and emphasize his theme. In To Build a Fire Earl Labor sees the mood and atmosphere, which is conveyed through repetitive imagery of cold and gloom and whiteness, as being the key to the story s impact (63). London does rely heavily on imagery to set the mood of the story, and in this way he draws a picture of the harsh environment that his character must endure. London uses imagery with such skill that the reader can almost feel the deadly cold of the environment and can almost hear the sharp, explosive crackle when the man s spit would freeze in mid air (119). Through the use of such vivid imagery, London guides the reader toward the realization of the story s theme; the reader can visualize the man losing in his battle with the frost and therefor can picture man in his conflict with a cruel and uncaring universe (128). Symbolism is also an important element in To Build a Fire . David Mike Hamilton s criticism, he says the fire symbolizes life as does the white snow that falls at the beginning of the story. He also views the dark point in the midst of the stamped snow, foretelling the end of the fire, and thus of life (2). Intelligence can be the mental ability to reason, plan ahead, understand a wide range of complex issues and learn from past experiences (Gottfredson, 1997). Intelligenceis the resultant of the process of acquiring, storing in memory, retrieving, combining, comparing, and using in new contexts information and conceptual skills (Humphreys, 1979) Intelligence is commonly measured through the use of a number of scales and quantitative measures, like the Intelligence Quotient (IQ), developed by Alfred Binet in early 20th century to identify which French children needed ... They have also utilised these arguments to explain a wide range of social phenomena, including crime. Other experts have strongly disagreed with this view, arguing that intelligence levels are directly related to situational factors. Environmental factors like the quality of the education system can have a very significant influence in the development of intelligence. Situational factors have been used by psychologists to explain a wide range of phenomena. A great number of sociologists, psychologists and criminologist have studied the circumstances and background that makes crime possible, in order to identify the main reasons and causes of crime by looking at the learning process that generates crime. The use of IQ to explain deviancy and crime has greatly influenced the debates of psychologists in this respect. For the past two and a half million years, the ability to make and use tools is a skill that has allowed humankind to thrive by making increasingly more efficient use of the resources in the environment. For the majority of this time, two of the most important tools have been the Oldowanchopper and the Acheuleanhandaxe. What Does Sin Symbolize In The Scarlet Letter Nathaniel Hawthorne emphasizes symbolism using elements of nature that represent good vs. evil, sin, and continual rebellion against Puritan society. The basis of Nathaniel s writing style is symbolism and allegory, (where concrete objects usually have a hidden meaning). The symbolism found most importantly throughout the novel so far would be light, darkness, and the rose bush, all found in nature. Symbolism is present throughout the entire novel. The author uses light as a symbol of good or evil. In the Puritan community, it may be believed that light will shine on those who have not sinned. The others not in the light are certainly sinners and should not have beauty. The second section of Beverly Chalmers book, Birth, Sex and Abuse, deals with sexuality among Germans and sexual abuse among Jewish women. Chalmers provides interesting information on how the Nazi s banned homosexuality, birth control, and feminist organizations (Ibid 145). Chalmers outlines that the goals of the Nazi party by repressing sexuality like homosexuals and feminist movements was to promote pronatalist policies like reproduction so women could bear more children for the superior Aryan race. Chalmers extensive study of brothels in concentration camps interested me because I did not realize the SS allowed prostitution inside concentration camps and the majority of these women were Germans because Jewish women were not allowed to be prostitutes due to the Rassenschande laws. Chalmers study of German women in brothels broadens the traditional study of the Holocaust because rather than always focusing on non German women s experiences it allows people that study the Holocaust to examine how German women were affected by the Holocaust in ... • 22. Effects Of Artificial Gravity Artificial gravity is an application of force, resulting from acceleration, that creates a sense of gravity. It is often used in space to counteract the effects of weightlessness in astronauts. Artificial gravity can be created in many ways; for example, centripetal force, a force that makes a body follow a curved path, can cause artificial gravity. If a spaceship was to rotate from its center, the force of rotation would push the astronaut in the opposite direction, causing the astronaut to experience an outwards force similar to gravity on Earth. The gravity can be calculated by using the radius between the center of rotation to the astronaut. The larger the radius, the larger the force, or artificial gravity, the astronaut would experience. Think of it as spinning on one of the spinning seats often found on playgrounds. The farther you lean your body out of the seat (increasing your radius from the center), the larger force you feel and the more likely you are to fly off. In addition, there are many reasons why astronauts need the sense of artificial gravity. The main reason would be the person s health. Humans have evolved to live on the earth, with a presence of gravity; once that presence is gone, the human body can experience several different effects. For example, muscle and skeleton deterioration can occur. When floating in space, an astronaut does not use their body s muscles like on earth; they don t put the same stresses on their back muscles, or their knee ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Nafta Tariff Barriers In poster #1 you can see that with tariffs down means trade will increase. This is represented by the words tariff and trade. The word tariff is written in red to signify a negative connotation, it also has an arrow pointing down meaning that the tariffs are lowering. The word trade is in green for a positive connotation and has an arrow pointing up to mean that trade is increasing because of the lowered tariffs. An increase in trade is what stimulates countries benefitting off comparative advantages. This increase in trade has had many benefits for all countries involved. With an increase in trade the price of goods in America decreases, making it easier for low income households to afford the products they need. Not only are the prices lower but with the rise in competition the quality of the goods and services are increased as well. This type accounts for two thirds of cushings syndrome and is the result of either an adenoma or carcinoma on the pituitary gland. The tumor causes overproduction of ACTH, resulting in increased release of cortisol from the adrenal gland. ACTH dependent Cushings Syndrome can also result from ectopic tumors that cause overproduction of ACTH or CRH. The most frequent is small cell lung carcinoma (12% of patients develop Cushings syndrome). A final type of ACTH dependent cushings syndrome is from exogenous ACTH administration, typically the use of synthetic steroids. ACTH independent Cushings Syndrome typically originates from abnormalities of the adrenal gland. Afika James Final paper Sped 704 Growing up in a predominantly poor community in a third world country like St. Vincent and the Grenadines, my parents expressed the importance of acquiring an education as the only way out of poverty. My mom worked hard so that she had enough money saved for us all to migrate to the United States of America. In that instance I am sure that my story is similar to that of many other immigrants. The myth that poor people are unmotivated and have low work ethics is sometimes still prevalent. Poor people do not have a poorer work ethic or lower levels of motivation. However, lack of resources and less time to focus on homework due to multiple jobs cause parents to have less involvement in schoolwork. The Roaring Girl Essay The Roaring Girl Though its primary function is usually plot driven as a source of humor and a means to effect changes in characters through disguise and deception cross dressing is also a sociological motif involving gendered play. My earlier essay on the use of the motif in Shakespeare s plays pointed out that cross dressing has been discussed as a symptom of a radical discontinuity in the meaning of the family (Belsey 178), as cul tural anxiety over the destabilization of the social hierarchy (Baker, Howard, Garber), as the means for a woman to be assertive without arousing hostility (Claiborne Park), and as homoerotic arousal (Jardine). That the disguise is dropped in most renaissance plays as part of reassuring a con ventional audience or as part of the enactment of a process of gender individuation (Greenblatt 92) does not invalidate the insistent metaphor which is the ground of the re presentation; nor does this kind of claim account for other uses to which poets put the motif during this period. Second, the transvestism of the English renaissance theatre creates a space of possibility for structuring and confounding culture as well as enacting a category crisis which reflects a potential destabilization of the dominant hierarchy (Garber 16, 17). Greenblatt points out that the enactment of such difference is an instrument to increase audience anxiety before reifying the normative and conventional in the play s res olution, a pattern played out in The Merchant of Venice, As You Like It, and Twelfth Night; yet this cannot account for the defiant and yet compassionate resolution of Dek ker s The Roaring Girl, where the mannishly clad Moll blesses the marriage of Sebastian and Mary Fitz Allard and their reconciliation with their fathers, at the same time refusing the conventional solution for herself. For those unfamiliar with heavy metal, it is easy to make this correlation because of the darker and often taboo subject matter present throughout the music. With a little more analysis, however, it can be discovered that these same aspects thought to be negative actually bring forth positive results among metal listeners. What is found in heavy metal musicis actually a display of emotions and energy that often have a purging effect which helps listeners of metal cope with the constantly changing world around them. Heavy metal is used as a tool for expressing emotion in a nonviolent way, rather than through physical destruction sought by some other genres. The first part of this paper attempts to answer these questions whilst deliberating on the majority and minority judgements of the US Supreme Court in Leegin and the significance of the decision for US federal antitrust law. The second part of this paper compares the US Federal and EU approaches to RPM. Several economic theories postulate enhanced consumer welfare as a reason why a manufacturer might endorse a policy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The economic logic of RPM is to redirect retailers competitive activities from prices to customer service. Factors such as price, quality, design and customer service on the part of retailers affect the demand for differentiated consumer goods. Therefore, by assuring resellers that they will not face discount price competition from other resellers of the same brand, minimum RPM agreements encourage retailers to invest in services or promotional efforts to sell that brand against competing brands. So although RPM may diminish intra brand price competition among retailers selling the same brand, Grimes argues that it compensates for this by enhancing inter brand competition between retailers as a result of the increase in intra brand service competition . Affirming this theory, the Supreme Court recognized in Continental TV that, when inter brand competition exists......, it provides a significant check on the exploitation of inter brand market power because of the ability of consumers to substitute a different brand of the same product . Mathewson and Winter suggest that increased consumer demand due to enhanced retail services , elicited through a protected retail margin, will more than offset a negative impact on demand of a higher retail price. Thus, RPM allows manufacturer to influence the supply of retail service by controlling its retailers margins, thereby using retail service as an instrument of inter brand competition. This ... These life lessons are often universal in nature. This means that no matter what age, gender, or status a person is, anyone can relate to the theme being discussed. • 42. Deer Or Elk Carcass In Nevada, a deer or elk carcass are disposed of in one of two ways: the head and spinal cord can be buried, or disposed of at an approved landfill. There are no captive cervids in Nevada. Legislation passed in 2005 does not allow captive cervid ranches in the state of Nevada. This also means that no captive elk, white tailed deer, or mule deer ranches exist in the state (MI Department of Natural Resources 2014). Oregon Although CWD has not been detected in Oregon, wildlife managers in the state are still actively testing for this prion disease (Oregon Fish Wildlife website). Since 2002 2003, a total of 17,009 hunter harvested and targeted surveillance deer and elk have been tested statewide. As of October 2014, 3,113 black tailed ... As of November of 2002, the Oregon Fish Wildlife Commission issued a regulation imposing a permanent ban on the importation of live cervids (except fallow deer or reindeer originating from Oregon and used for educational or display purposes). This regulation was adopted as a risk reduction measure involving the potential import of CWD and transmission of the disease to the state s cervid populations (wild and farmed) (MI Department of Natural Resources 2014). Since June 2009, captive cervid producers have been given the option to enroll in a Voluntary CWD Monitored Herd program via an application to the Wildlife Division Administrator. As a condition for monitored herd status, all captive North American deer and elk (6 months of age or older) dying of any cause, must be sampled for CWD by a federally accredited veterinarian, or an Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife veterinarian or at a veterinary diagnostic laboratory by a veterinary pathologist. • 43. Distribution Channel Of Tata Motors 2.3Distribution Distribution Channels The distribution channel environment for automobiles in India is different from that of most advanced countries. These differences exist in number of dealers, size and type of dealers, functions of dealer, manufacturer dealer relationship, car supermarkets, vertical integration, bookings, financing, number of cars sold per dealer, margins, and market environment. Because customer has wide choice, most car dealers would have to adjust to the as per the need of the customer. As far as Tata Motors is concerned and in the current automobile marketingsystem, the dealer orders cars in advance in a `push system driven by the Tata Motor s agendas, and there after the dealer has to bend the customer s requirements to existing stock. Tata Motors first ship the products to their depot from where it is taken to a local distributor, who then supplies to the retailers in that region, and finally sell it to the end customer. In some cases, where the Tata Motors does not operate its own depots, it employs a carrying and forwarding agent (C F), who then supplies to the local distributor. The roles of the above mentioned players in the distribution channel are extremely important because most of the retail stores could stock only 5 10 units of a given stock and often stock competing brands of Tata Motors together in a small space. As a result, it is the distributors and sales agents, who have to convince the retailer on stocking their products as well as making sure that their items are sold in a timely fashion at the retail stores. A local distributor may have 5% to 10% margin, while a C F agent may have 2% to 4%. The final price has to be paid by the customer and multiple layers in the distribution network impact the final ... • 44. Characteristics Of Shakespearean Tragedy 2. SHAKESPEAREAN TRAGEDY Shakespearean tragedy is the title given to most tragedies written by the playwright William Shakespeare. Shakespearean tragedy began, roughly speaking, with marked indebtedness to the tragic writing of Marlowe and Kyd: poetry, character, and style from Marlowe; motive, plot, and tragic intensity from Kyd. No evidence suggests Shakespeare was ever particularly aware of or influenced by, Aristotelian theories of tragedy . (Bevington, 1980) The plays we usually have in mind when we think about Shakespearean tragedy are the classics like Titus Andronicus (written between 1590 94), Romeo and Juliet (1594 96), Julius Caesar (1599), Hamlet (1599 1601), Othello (1603 04), King Lear (1605), Macbeth (1606 07), Antony and Cleopatra (1606 07), and Coriolanus (1608) derived from Plutarch. Troilus and Cressida, Timon of Athens, and Cymbeline were listed as tragedies in the First Folio. Characteristics of a Shakespearean tragedy are found in many of his histories, but since they are from real figures throughout England s history, they were classified as histories in the First Folio. Exceptions from this are the Roman histories, also from historical figures: Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, and Coriolanus.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Gredina, forthcoming) I am most interested in the human nature of the characters and I chose these three tragedies because their protagonists attracted my attention the most. Is Macbeth tempted to sin by the weird sisters and his wife, or is the choice to murder Duncan ultimately his? To what extent is man responsible for his tragic fate? (Bevington, 1980) The psychological aspect in his tragedies is impressive. I think the most impressive thing is that even after more than 400 years we can still study his characters and their decisions from different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The graph clearly shows that gin was the drink of choice for a long time until prices rose in 1751 which caused the consumption of beer to spike. In conclusion, this source does not support the proposition the problems of the eighteenth century London centred on the drinking of gin as it makes no reference to the problems of the time, more showing the gin and beer drinking statistics. Contrastingly, in Source 2, the author states reformers pointed to excessive gin drinking as the cause of social unrest this statement supports the proposition. Additionally, this article also refers to gin drinking being replacing food in people s diets whilst it did provide a large amount of calories it lacked associated nutrients which may have led to malnutrition. Likewise, Source 3 majorly supports the preposition as it is directly referring to the issues gin has caused within society. These issues include poverty, irresponsible parenting, riots, malnutrition, starvation and homelessness. Displayed as a visual representation, the author clearly communicates gin to be a prime reason for the problems faced at the time. Lastly, in Source 4, the author is describing the alcohol as attacking the economy people started to stop attending work due to the consistent alcoholism and hangovers. Not to mention, this left no one to run businesses and keep civilisation running which resulted in many issues for the government.
