This document summarizes the formative evaluation approach for the CETL (Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning) programme. The evaluation will have three main goals: 1) Explore theories of change embedded in the CETL programme and tell stories of what works well through appreciative inquiry; 2) Identify promising and effective teaching practices and their impact on student learning and institutional culture; 3) Provide lessons learned and implications to inform future adjustments to the CETL programme strategy. A mixed methods approach will include interviews, case studies, surveys, and collaborating with local evaluators to understand the programme's effects on various levels.

It provides details on a program that was created to help simulate the types of issues that a residential property manager would normally face in his or her job, such as building lease-up, marketing, budgeting, crisis management, and personnel hiring, among several other things. Results are given from an experiment that tested satisfaction with the simulation in both competitive and non-competitive environments, as well as the potential for the simulation to attract students to a "Residential Property Management" concentration. The University of Georgia is one of only about 6-8 colleges and universities that offers such a concentration.

Open Access is increasingly a determining part of the structures and processes of scholarly communication, particularly in the emerging open science modus operandi, which presupposes the opening of all research components. Currently, most scholarly communication instances, products and services refer to open access in some way. The bibliographic indexes started to identify open access articles. New publishers were created, most commercial publishers started to publish open access journals or offer authors the possibility to publish open access articles in subscription journals. Open access mega journals have appeared. In developing countries, open access journals predominate, with emphasis on the pioneering SciELO Program, publishing open access journals from 1998, four years before the Budapest Open Access Initiative declaration. The preprints modality with open access availability of manuscripts before evaluation and publication in journals grows and new tools appear. Several innovative models have emerged in recent years to promote open access to journal articles, such as library consortia or crowdfunding. There is still difficulty and resistance from publishers in developing financial models that enable open access, and the calculation of article processing charges (APC) remains opaque. But the main force that can make the universalization of open access viable is public policies, the best example being currently the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program.
Before this landscape, this panel will analyze progress already achieved, the promising solutions and the persistent barriers in the routes towards the universalization of open access.

The Center for Innovation in Education and Next Generation Learning Challenges invite applications to the Assessment for Learning Project. The grants will support educators to fundamentally rethink the core role(s) that assessment can play to support student attainment of deeper learning. Nearly $2 million is available for 12-15 grants. Applications are due December 10, 2015. This presentation was used in webinars on November 4 and November 12, 2015 to provide an overview of the grant opportunity to prospective applicants and respond to their questions.

The ceLTIc project shows how to enable LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) connectors to build a flexible infrastructure.This session will discuss how the JISC-funded ceLTIc:sharing project is evaluating the use of LTI to provide a shared service for institutions interested in evaluating WebPA. Benchmarking in the areas of technology enhanced learning (TEL) is an important part of how institutions are able to mediate a level of quality in their online practice. This has become increasingly significant with the advent, and increased powers of higher education quality assurance agencies in many countries, and who are now taking a keen interest in how our institutions can provide a level of equivalence to the quality of their practice. This webinar will provide you a comprehensive introduction to the ACODE Benchmarks for TEL, and offer you a compelling rationale for their use as part of a suite of initiatives an institution can apply to facilitate a level of quality across eight key areas of institutional practice. To support this claim, this presentation will provide practical examples of how this tool has been applied by in excess of 35 institutions from five countries over recent years. Importantly, once you have gained an understanding of what this tool can offer you, you will be asked to identify significant others within your institution who you believe could go on this important journey with you.
Preparing for an inter-institutional Benchmarking activity using the ACODE Be...Charles Darwin University
Over the last few years the Australasian Council of Online, Distance and eLearning (ACODE) have facilitated two major Benchmarking Summits in Sydney and Canberra, using the ACODE Benchmarks for TEL. These have been unprecedented events within the Australasian higher education, with 35 higher education institutions from five countries involved. To participate each institution first had to undertake a self-assessment of their capacity in TEL against the Performance Indicators in the tool, and then be willing to share this with the other institutions involved. Each institution assessed, at a minimum, two of the benchmarks, with many institutions doing far more. However, for an institution to maximize its experience with this activity they need to be starting their engagement well prior to the formal benchmarking activity. This workshop will help those new to the ACODE benchmarks understand what is required when using this tool. It will provide the wherewithal to ensure your participation is undertaken in a rigorous way. More importantly, it will provide a practical way to facilitate an internal activity, potentially with a view to then be involved in an inter-institutional activity. We will work through a number of different scenarios to help you understand the many facets needing to be considered in undertaking such an activity, and you leave with a strong plan of action for your institution to enhance its capacity in TEL.
Implementing the new competence development model for schools: University Ne...EduSkills OECD
Norway has started to implement a new competence development model that sets out to develop teacher professionalism with in-service
professional development. With this new policy, the Government of Norway aims to provide municipalities and schools with greater freedom of action and empower them to carry out systematic school improvement at the local level. This decentralised approach would respond to local context and the diversity of needs between Norwegian schools.
The OECD supports countries in bridging the gap between policy design and effective implementation. The university network workshop aims to further discuss and refine the implementation strategy of the new competence development model for schools. To this end, the OECD team is presenting the conclusions of the initial OECD policy assessment (“Improving school quality in Norway”), and organising discussions on the concept of quality for professional development within the new model, and the associated indicators to monitor both the implementation process and the anchoring in local practices of the new model.
Supported by a national group of partner organizations, the Assessment for Learning Project is a multi-year grant program and field-building initiative inviting educators to fundamentally rethink the roles that assessment should play to advance student learning and to improve our K-12 education system.
Grant recipients receive awards ranging from $50,000 to $225,000, along with personalized technical assistance, high-quality learning experiences and access to a national community of practice, all aimed at catalyzing new and improving on promising efforts in assessment design.
Over the next two years, we’ll be gathering and synthesizing insights from our grantees and other innovative educators. And those insights will lead to new questions and deeper explorations of these issues. In other words, our learning agenda is intended to catalyze an ongoing conversation on how we can #rethinkassessment.
