Our Town Critique
Jessica Eastep Drama 1310 Art Theater Critique
Our Town
This movie is a period piece, at the beginning of the 1900's. This is five years before the first automobile comes into play in this town. In this town
everyone knows everyone and everyone has basically the same routine. Same paper route, same train route. There are many churches in this town, a
mill, a little main street with post office and city hall. Just a basic small town, similar to mine (Crandall). Mrs. Gibbs garden and Mrs. Webb's garden
are similar.
This is the first play I have seen conducted in this sort of way. The narrator carries you through this story. He does more of the telling of the town, and
uses the characters to show you the town. In the beginning the story revolves around the Gibbs and Webb families. At first glance you see into the
everyday lives of these people, and how they conduct their daily routine as mentioned before. It's not until the narrator starts bringing in different
people from the town that you realize the somewhat testimonies from the characters are breaking the fourth wall, and interacting with the audience in
the theater. The big clue that gives this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are different people in this story that are similar in ways and different in many others. The relationships between the different characters like
George and Emily and both of their parents are very interesting, all of these relationships and the ways of the town show the biggest reason for the
play (in my eyes). The whole point is to show how special the town is, how special the people in the town are. The simple things in life, when life
was much easier. The little quirks in the town make it a whole, like the paper boy, the churches, the little store in town, the way the hardware store
owner drives crazy. How the entire town is like a family. All of these things make the town simply wonderful. That is what the narrator is trying to
portray to us as an

? Point of View
Who am I?... What am I?... What's my name?... Do I even have a name? These are the questions that I ask myself since waking up from
unconsciousness and they still plague my mind.
My appearance from the slight glimpse from drinking water from the river is red fur covering my body, red fluffy ears and tail, red eye with slitted
pupils and black pigmentation around my eyes reaching my fluffy ears. Yet it felt wrong, but at the same time it felt right.
Months soon pass by, in it's wake no memory came back. During those months a routine was established: wake up, start scavenging for food source be
it fruits, berries, insects or fish, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I spend hours exploring the town until finally deciding to get something to eat, but apparently the human with fish didn't take to kindly of me getting
some fish. The human chase me throwing sharp pointy things at me. Days went by some I spend hunting in the forest and others in the town grabbing
anything edible and got chase. During the time spent in town I learn more about myself, apparently I'm an animal called fox. Even though I got the
answers to my questions since waking up with amnesia it didn't feel they were correct.
Days later when I went into town it was deserted like a ghost town. An hour went by as I arrived at the port where a pirate ship was docked. Not
wanting to deal with pirates I decided to leave to the forest. Yet as I near the edge of town there was a little girl holding a bag running from pirates,
but then tripped on a rock.
Seeing her fall down and the pirates coming closer something compell me to something to help her. Suddenly I felt something dwelling inside me
come out. No sooner the pirates came and for some reason passed the little girl. Nearing the girl I took in her appearance orange hair, brown eyes.
"Where you the one that save?" the girl ask

##ie Belle, Scootaloo And The Crusader : A Short Story :...
Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo, and Apple Bloom were standing on the arch bridge just outside Ponyville. The three had their eyes cast upon the clear
water of the gentle creek. The three Cutie Mark Crusaders had arrived at an impasse. They were no closer to earning their cutie marks and worst
of all they had no new ideas on what they could even try. Scootaloo let out a long exasperated sigh. "Huuuuuuuh! Well anyone have an idea?" She
asked her fellow crusaders. Apple Bloom perked up for a minute and raised her right hoof in the air. A hopeful and excited look flared up on her
face. Opening her mouth she promptly replied, "I got nothing..." She dropped back to lean on the bridge. "This stinks!" Sweetie Belle groused. "At
this rate we'll be old gray mares till we find out what our special talents are." "I reckon you're right Sweetie Belle. But what in tarnation can we do?"
The young Apple Bloom wondered. "Our last plan didn't turn out so well." Scootaloo sighed again. "Don't remind me. Cutie Mark Crusader "Pet
Detectives" was a nightmare." "Tell me about it. What pony in their right mind keeps a skunk as a pet and then loses it?" Sweetie Belle inquired
rhetorically. "Guess we'd just better keep brainstormin'," Apple Bloom announced. "Yeah," Scootaloo mumbled back. "I wonder if it was this hard for
Princess Luna and Celestia to get their cutie marks." Just then Twilight Sparkle trotted along humming a happy tune. As she approached the lovely
arched bridge, she noticed the three little

Personal Aspects Of Natural Disasters
Across the World people know what a natural disaster is, but have never actually experienced one first hand. Natural disasters are events that are
unexpected, and can ruin a town in a matter of just a few minutes. Just a few hours away from my home town lies a big city that is nicknamed
Jomo. This town sounds small and mysterious, but it is actually very well known. This town is Joplin, Missouri. Growing up in a small Southern
Missouri town I have experienced multiple tornadoes, but never knew just how dangerous they can be. However, in the month of May 2011 I became
very aware of the danger. On May 22, 2011 an EF5 tornado hit the town of Joplin, and destroyed almost half of the city. This event hit very close to
home for many people in my community. This tornado is the most expensive tornado in US history, and I first hand got to experience the
destruction. A few days after the tornado hit my family and friends decided to go help this nearby town. I thought it was going to be an easy trip,
but I ended up seeing things that will never leave my mind. My family and I woke up at four in the morning to begin our two day journey. I was
13 at the time, and knew very little about what was going on before I got to Joplin. We arrived to Joplin around seven, with a whole day of plans
ahead of us. I still remember the drive into town. We saw hundreds of people on the side of the street. Most of these people were sleeping on blankets
right in the middle of the town. This is when I

Stephen Leacock
Stephen Leacock
Born in Swanmore, England, Stephen Leacock was one of 11 children of an unsuccessful farmer and an ambitious mother, a woman to whom Leacock
no doubt owed his energetic and status–conscious nature. In 1891, while teaching at the prestigious Upper Canada College in Toronto, Leacock
obtained a modern language degree from the University of Toronto. In 1903, after receiving a Ph.D. in political economy from the University of
Chicago, he joined the staff of McGill University, Montreal, as professor of politics and economics. Leacock's career as a humorist began when he had
some comic pieces published as Literary Lapses in 1910. This successful book was followed by two more books of comic sketches, Nonsense Novels

The son who wandered forth in the world was either killed by the cannibals or crawled home years afterwards doubled up with rheumatism. So the old
men made the proverb. But nowadays it is exactly wrong. It is the rolling stone that gathers the moss. It is the ambitious boy from Honkville, Indiana,
who trudges off to the city leaving his elder brother in the barnyard and who later makes a fortune and founds a university. While his elder brother
still has only the old farm with three cows and a couple of pigs, he has a whole department of agriculture with great sheds–full of Tamworth hogs and a
professor to every six of them.
In short, in modern life it is the rolling stone that gathers the moss. And the geologists––outside of Tennessee––say that the moss on the actual stone
was first started in exactly the same way. It was the rolling of the stone that smashed up the earth and made the moss grow.
Take another proverb:
All is not Gold that Glitters
How perfectly ridiculous! Everybody in the days in which we live knows––even a child knows––that all is gold that glitters. Put on clothes enough,
appearance enough and you will be accepted anywhere. Just do a little glittering and everybody will think you are gold. Make a show, be a humbug,
and you will succeed so fast that presently, being very wealthy and prominent, you will really think yourself a person of great merit and intellect. In
other words, the glitter makes the gold. That is all there is to it.

Movie Analysis : ' Snow Day '
Imagine growing up in a small, backwards town in North Carolina with a population smaller than that of your average university campus and only one
movie theater. Now imagine that with a lot more horse pastures. You've just imagined pretty much my entire childhood in Indian Trail, North Carolina,
congratulations. That may sound like a fairly negative description, but I assure you I loved every minute of it. I loved our single ice cream store,
Bruster's, and the free chocolate kiddie–cones the employees would give you to make you shut up if you hung around too long begging for food. I
loved the park, and all the Saturdays I spent wandering around on empty baseball diamonds and digging up tiny wild onions in the nearby woods while

It wasn't exactly the home coming I'd always imagined. Our air conditioning had died a couple hundred miles back so I was slick with sweat,
more than a little queasy from car sickness and at some point both of my legs had fallen asleep. As I was fighting the uphill battle against the pins
and needles in my feet, our car puttered past a dingy green sign proclaiming "Welcome to Indian Trail! Population 35,000." To be completely
honest with you, If I hadn't seen the signs, I doubt I would have recognized the town at all. At first glance, my home town had turned into a perfect
model of suburbia and I couldn't have been more horrified. Somehow in the nine years I'd been gone, my tiny town had grown from about 5,000
people to seven times that! Now there were sprawling neighborhoods with elaborate names like "Green Briar", coffee shops and strip malls
crammed into every street corner, and not one, but several movie theaters. Where was the park? Where were all of those horse pastures and rickety
barns? It was like a nightmare come to life. As I sat in the back seat of the car with my forehead pressed against the cool window and my breath
fogging up the glass, I watched the unfamiliar landscape crawl by. It felt like an immense betrayal and I understood exactly why I had avoided
coming here for so many years; This was the reality I had been trying to avoid. That perfect little

Music And Music : Carol Of The Bells
This concert was a series of performances by the Limestone College and Community Chorus, as well as a couple of performances by the Limestone
College Vocal Ensemble. This is a review of the first half of the concert, which featured performances from the Limestone College and Community
Chorus.
Carol of the Bells (Ukrainian Carol) by Mykolo Leontovich (1877–1921) Carol of the Bells is a Christmas carol with a unique history. The beginning of
what would eventually be popularized as a Christmas carol begin as a Ukrainian traditional folk chant. This famous Ukrainian chant was arranged and
set to music in 1914 by Ukrainian composer Mykolo Leontovich. This piece, with its catchy 4 note motive which is developed over the course of the
song, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This leads me to believe that almost all of the issues that arose during the concert were caused simply by the positioning of the performers in the
auditorium.
The Shepherd's Carol by William Billings (1746–1800)
William Billings was an American choral composer, and he is considered to be the first choral composer in American history. He primarily wrote
4–part a capella choir pieces. The Shepard's Carol is a famous piece of his that is a staple of Christmas choir music to this day. The difference in the
sound of the choir between the back of the auditorium and on stage is night and day. The stage made their balance so much better, with the bass and
tenor voices resonating better through the audience. I also noticed how much stronger the intonation of the choir was when they were closer to the
piano accompaniment. The different voices in the choir also have strong blend individually. Rather than it sounding like I am listening to 11 sopranos
as indicated on the program, it sounds like I am listening to just a few because of how well those 11 singers blended together. You can tell there is a
lot of emphasis on the performance being a group effort rather than a bunch of individual efforts.
Carols Around (and around) arranged by Carl J. Nygard, Jr. (b. 1947) Carl J. Nygard is an American composer from Pennsylvania. He has degrees in

Adela Strangeworth In The Possibility Of Evil By Shirley...
Normally, when people see an old lady she is nice, caring, wise and sweet. However, the townsfolk don't know all those layers of personality she
hides behind those gentle eyes: She is proud, controlling and secretive. Adela Strangeworth is the protagonist of "The Possibility of Evil" by Shirley
Jackson. But she is not a stereotypical grandma; she conceals a secret identity of an anonymous bully, who sends letters to families she think she is
"helping" by protecting her little town from evil.
Miss Strangeworth is very proud of herself and her family. She believes that her grandpa should have a statue in the middle of the town to honour
him and she insists on being called Miss Strangeworth instead of Adela. She's extremely proud the her little house on Pleasant Street and her rose
garden. "This house, right here, my family has lived here for better than a hundred years, my grandmother planted those roses', and my mother, just
as I do" (Jackson,1941, p.163). Her rose garden is her pride and jewel. She believes her roses' are so sacred, she will not give any to the church for
ceremonies. Thats just shows how proud she is. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My ecology action project will be on recycling water bottles and soda cans and cash them in for money to give to my school and church. My mom and
step–dad will be driving me around town to pick up cans and water bottles. Numerous stores will also be asked if we will be able to put recycling bins
in their stores. All of the bottles and cans will be put together and cashed in every one to two weeks depending on the amount. By doing this action
the environment will be a little less messy and money will be given back to our community. This project will be done a little every day.

kids in our school always talked about kids missing and why no one can find them because of the place that they call Ghost Town. When we stepped
on the fertile soil, we saw abandoned old houses as If we were in the 1911. We immediately got a sense, we were not alone "I don't know about this

College Admissions Essay: It's All About Me
All About Me I'm awesome. It's true. Everyone who meets me will agree, and by the end of this essay, you will too. I am from the small town of
Mexico, Missouri where I haved lived my whole life. I was born on January 4, 2000. I am the millennium baby because I was the first baby born in
2000 in the the town of Mexico and I got to ride home in a limo. I went to elementary school at Hawthorne and then to the Middle School and now I
am a Junior at The Mexico High School. I play basketball, football, and baseball. This summer I worked at the City Pool as a lifeguard. Last summer I
worked at Pearl Motor Company for my dad. That job was definitely a lot harder than being a lifeguard, but I enjoyed both jobs. One of my favorite
hobbies is hunting. I love to Turkey hunt and also deer hunt. I've killed three turkeys and one deer. One of my other hobbies is snow skiing. I usually
get to go to Colorado every year with my church and I've been three times with my family. This is just a little bit of who I am. What I need to be
successful. My biggest issue and worst habit is procrastination so this year I am going to try really hard to get all my work finished and not put it off

Tom Brennan Character Analysis
The pain and grief of traumatic road accidents can complicate and severely damage many relationships, especially those in small, close knit
communities. The line becomes blurred between perpetrators and victims, as beliefs become doubted, and sympathy arises for those who sadly lost
their lives, and those who "move on from a moment that threatens to define them forever" ('Shattered', 2011). Viewers respond to compassion and
remorse shown in the stories, typical views of perpetrators and victims become challenged, demonstrating the enormous influence of a person's attitude
on other's perspective and opinion of them. The Story of Tom Brennan is an award winning Australian novel written by Jane Burke, published by
Random House during 2005.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the sufferance of victims, they often aren't entirely blameless, as their poor decisions and irresponsibility is ultimately associated with their
upsetting and newfound situation. Therefore victims like Fin O'Neil in The Story of Tom Brennan, who ultimately chose to travel in a car with
drunken, inexperienced, and impulsive driver, it becomes questionable whether he is also culpable for his injuries. Despite Fin's sobriety and
awareness prior to the accident, this does not implicate him, however it becomes debatable whether the outcomes would be alike; with Fin's
extensive injuries and crash itself, if the decisions made on Fin's behalf were different. Similarly in the story of 'In My Little Town', Leigh Charter
Jnr also decides to travel with a drunk driver, regardless of the risks. Although his alertness was also compromised by alcohol, he holds some level of
responsibility in his death. However, in 'Shattered', there are no obvious victims who made poor decisions, due to the situations isolation. Although, it
is disputable whether the perpetrator; Peter Hodgkins' friends who witnessed the accident could have altered the outcome. Though, it was voiced to
Peter; "don't throw a rock at a car, that's stupid," ('Shattered', 2011) this partly ousts some responsibility, especially due to their intoxication, which is
similar to the other stories. However, responsibility is never fully removed from others, as it only takes one person, one conversation, and any one
action during the lead to alter the outcome of July 21st 2007, in Kiama, New South

My Family
I was a young girl living in Lynwood, California with my parents, two brothers and one sister. My family was very close to each other, my neighbors
were my three cousins. We were always outside playing soccer and told each other scary stories to see who was the scary cat of us all. Ever morning
we walked to school with our ziplock bags with cereal and milk. Being just a little kid it never came to mind being apart from my cousins. Los Angeles
is a very crowded ,fast living place to live in, and extremely expensive in cost of living. My mother was a single parent she couldn't handle the bills by
herself, my dad was always out doing nothing but good. My mother felt like she needed to make a change in her life and ours of course. That's
how it all started my mother was tired of living the same routine everyday. She one day came across a close friend who was telling her how happy
she was to be out of Los Angeles with her new career. A new job was offered to my mother in Coalinga so she agreed. Then, it hit me that we were
going to have to move, but I was barely going to enter second grade and even a chance to get the same class with one of my cousins. I couldn't
imagine living 4 hours away from my family. That's all I had at school my three cousin's who were my only friends. I remember my mom coming into
my room and telling that moving was going to be a better opportunity for us to have a brighter future also, that we were going to get a huge house. But

Steel Town Case Study Jamestown
Steeltown U.S.A. was a great read! I enjoyed reading all about Youngstown and the challenges the town had to face. Chapter 4: From "Steel Town"
to a "Nice Place to Do Time" was personally one of the best chapters in the book. It was so terribly sad to read about everything the once successful
industrialized town had later became. In only twenty short years, Youngstown had evolved into this corrupt place; they even went as far to call it the
"murder capital." Once the mills shut down, the town took a major downfall. Poverty, drugs, and crime started to replace the legacy Youngstown once
held. Before reading this book, I had no idea that the steel mill closings could cause a town so much damage. What I came to understand was that the
closings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mills were closing down because the supply for steel had greatly decreased. The town's lack of industrialization caused other businesses to
relocate, so the steel workers were not left with many options. Also, during this time period, it was not very common for women to have a full time
job: the steel families really had no option but to leave, but for some that was impossible. I struggle with wrapping my mind around the trouble and
heartache these families faced in hopes that Youngstown would find a way out. Knowing very little about Youngstown, I felt that the authors did a
nice job revealing information on the town and what it had been through. The struggle the families and community faced was saddening, but it was
really interesting to see how they worked together in hopes to restore the town. A few things I really enjoyed about Steeltown U.S.A. were the
pictures displayed throughout the book. The picture from the New Republic issue on page 192 with the billboard stating "Welcome to Youngstown"
with the bullet holes was my favorite. Could you imagine the feeling that one would have driving into a town with a billboard covered in bullet
holes? I know I would do my best to get out of that town as fast as I could! It was terrible how the crime labeled Youngstown. The photographs
captured in the book really helped me visualize Youngstown and helped my understanding of the atmosphere the town

something through to the end. 2. I am that person; those are my qualities. 3. I believe in persevering until my dreams become reality. 4. Always be
oneself no matter how difficult the journey may become. My most significant quality I have is determination, this is well portrayed in the song
"Follow your arrow". The lyrics that I absolutely relate too are "Follow your arrow wherever it goes", because people have to follow their dreams.
1. Many times living in a microscopic town, people will know all of someone's business and try to tell that person how far they will or will not
make it. 2. Some will say that a person will never make it out of the town and that they will be cemented here forever. 3. This is not true, people
should follow their dreams and set goals, with enough determination and effort anything is possible. 4. By following the arrow life has given, always
remember to take risks and take advantage of every opportunity that may come a person's way. 5. Then one day, make sure to prove every one of those

them. 4. My parents have always taught me that nothing should come before family. 5. Other parents should teach their children this too, because some
kids nowadays think that they can do what they want and that spending time with family isn't that important. They also enforced upon me that no
friend or anyone else will ever compare to the love that they have for me, especially fake friends, that I always try to stay away

Martin Luther King Jr.: Article Analysis
It's amazing how our world has become more like Martin Luther King Jr's dream, a place where races of all kinds are together. You would be
probably blown away if the entire world was like the small town of Longtown, Ohio where families of mixed races are together. Free of slavery and
discrimination this town has been around for nearly 200 years, starting around the 1850Вґs. The world needs to be more like Longtown to stop
everyone from thinking that they should only be with their own races and for everyone to be together as one. The article by Newsela, ВЁOhio town

Dr. KIng wanted a world where people of all races would be together and not care about what color skin they are. Look where we are now, a place
where people of all races are together without care of what race they are. Longtown exactly emphasizes what Martin Luther King Jr spoke about.
There is still racial conflict around the world, but that's why the world needs more places like Longtown. It still is great how a town of mixed
races could still be together. The Keiser family and the other families of the small town all probably had no big problems with the separation of
races. And that's how Dr. King wanted it to be. A quote from his speech that I think shines a light to all people who want all races to be together is,
ВЁThis will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning, ВґMy country Вґtis of thee, sweet land of liberty of thee I

Small Town Monologue
Being from small town USA, the world has not always been at my fingertips. With only one gas station and a small community of about 450
people, Milano is not well known. Because of its small size, resources are not very abundant. Growing up, I had to learn how to maximize the few
resources that were available to me. Also, I learned to be appreciative of what I had. My hometown taught me many great life lessons, and I will
forever be thankful for all that I have learned while living here. The two stoplight town of Milano is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 79 and
State Highway 36, and is only an insignificant bathroom break for many travelers. These travelers do not get to see what goes on in our quaint little
town. They do not get to enjoy our Friday night football games. They do not get to attend our tight–knit community gatherings. They do not understand
that even though we don't have much, we make the most out of what we have. Travelers who speed past Milano have no idea as to how close we all
are, and the sense of community purpose that has gone by the wayside for so many small towns in America. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My town has molded me into the person I am by showing me all types of people. "It takes a village to raise a child" is certainly the mantra there.
Everyone knows everyone's business, and neighbors are just as likely to discipline or praise you, as your parents would. Because of this, I learned
very quickly that I must treat everyone, no matter their background, with respect. I have grown up around people who have lived in tents with very
little food, and people with sprawling ranches and magnificent houses. I have met people from all walks of life in this tiny town, and I have learned
how to accept and respect people for who they are and not what they

We read: "Whatever people appear to desire it or not" and we no longer suppose him to be thoughtful enough to be somebody's shoulder on time, but
not just all the time.
As we all are used to find bad things in a person as soon as we said he is not very perfect at all, I will not reject such a unconscious "approach" to
interpreting any man's personality. So, seeking for some intolerant and pushy stuff to collect we can easily find the examples. He seemed to be
very boastful about what he did, and even about what he was going to do, I guess: "My dear fellow," said Mr. Butt, "I only wish I could. I wish I
had the time. I am sure it would cheer you up immensely if I could. But I 'm just going out." And unfortunately, to hear him speak, you'd think he is
boastful about the things he shouldn't be so boastful. "I can easily find it" he said about the way he is going to find a house of his friends, as he
used to tell us. And to our great surprise we read further: "I 've a very simple system for finding a house at night by merely knocking at the doors
in the neighborhood till I get it." And it almost scares us, as we all know that it is very intolerant to do so. So Mr. Butt started his pleasant full of
benevolence trip. It is nonsense to us, how spineless were all those people he disturbed! He said:"I had to knock at twenty houses at least to get it" and
we are laughing through the tears at him.

There are many stories I could tell or different topics I could talk about that are important to me. Some funny, some sad, and some I can not put an

Where I grew up
The small town of dill city is where I grew up and spent all of my life in the same house. I cant complain about the peaceful little town of dill city.
Nothing to interesting happens here so you don't have to worry about much. But not much goes on I western Oklahoma anyways. You normally have
to drive an hour or so to find anything interesting and fun things to do. But you can usually call a couple of friends to hangout with and usually have a
pretty good time. Friends are the best thing about growing up in a small town, they become brothers and sisters to you and eventually become family.
The neighbors here in dill city are not your average people that you see on your everyday bases. These people are the best and would do anything for
someone. The town has some shady parts in it but what town doesn't have its flaws. Dill city isn't much anymore but my oldest neighbor Ralph Ensey

The Importance Of Living In Chagrin Falls, Ohio
Chagrin Falls, Ohio is often referred to as a "bubble town" which accurately embodies its nickname. Having lived in Chagrin my entire life, I
reluctantly agree with the Urban Dictionary definitions of "usually a small town where very few events of interest occur or a sheltered and naive place
to live, where youth can't understand the cruelty of the real world because they're too sheltered by their protective bubble." Reading our weekly town
police blotter sheds light that a cat getting locked in a closet is big news and that this little town in Cuyahoga County is a bit isolated and ignorant to
the outside world. This little town is all about the "Friday Night Lights" where our high school football team is the center focus having made multiple
visits to the state championship. These facts transpire as the reason I try to defy this reputation. Despite the influence that one's surroundings can hold
over their life, I believe that this remains easy only with complacency. I have been one of two in my high school that have participated in nationwide
golf tournaments. Incidentally, the second guy became involved by my lead. In addition, I have also been involved with the local Chagrin Falls Park

Descriptive Essay About My Hometown
My hometown. A small, southern speck on a map with population: not enough. If you came to my hometown you may say: You people sound
different, I'm just not use to the way you speak. Yet, if I came to your hometown I may say: Y'all sound funny, I ain't use to all this. Yes, I grew up
talking a little bit, or should I say tad bit different than most but hey, I am the one giving the speech here. So, you are going to have to listen to my
country accent talk for a while. Even though, I do not feel less educated in any way. So my small town in Alabama is just any small town. There is
not much to it really, not enough to talk about for a good 10 minutes but if I don't talk about it for 10 minutes I don't pass my class so, who is ready
to hear me ramble for a while? I know I am. In my small town the most classiest restaurant is a McDonald's and the store that keeps up with the
latest fashion is Walmart. Now you may have an idea of what kind of environment I grew up in. To be honest, my hometown has only a few
stoplights, we have a lot of dirt roads, and a lot of wildlife. You can't go anywhere without seeing a tree. Just to let you have a mindset of what the
town I grew up in is like, I have a little story to tell you. One day, I guess some people that I do not know who live in my town decided that they
were going to rob the only bank we actually have in town. So, they actually stole money from the bank and got away on bicycles. Yep, bicycles.
No, this was no high speed chase you see in the movies but these guys got away on their bikes they had at home. So maybe you can see just how
small my small town is but I honestly love it. It has taught me to keep a simple eye, it has taught me to appreciate the little things. I will never take
for granted the stars that shine at night and how beautiful they are. I will never take for granted the song a bird sings early in the morning to wake
you up. I will never take for granted the love that I get from a close family, from a family that has to be close because they pretty much make up the
hometown I live in. If we ever decided to move, I think there might be no one left in the town. Still, really there are so many things that I learned from

Benefits Of Small Town Living
Growing up in a very little town in Illinois was a lot different than growing up in Houston, Texas. When I was in the fourth grade I found many
things to have changed about my surroundings, I currently lived in a place where, the people thought and acted differently. I know now reading
about it and understanding more that some of those changes were for the good and some were not. Small town living has its advantages such as,
very close friendships, close approximately to may things, and friendly people. Looking back, I also realized that there were a lot of disadvantages
such as lack of transportation, affects of a poor education, no opportunities for growth, crime, no diversity, and low paying jobs and housing. Now
that I am older, and aware of the affects of living in a small town, I can see how these many things affected my life and will continue affect it in the
future. I grew up, the majority of my live, in a town in central Illinois, Kincaid, or better known as South Fork because of the co–op with the schools
around us in sports. This town is approximately 20 miles southeast of Springfield, and is only seven miles west from the nearest town, with many
opportunities that my town did not offer (City–data).
With a total population of 1,495, including the town of Tovey about a mile away, as of July 1, 2015 Kincaid is ranked as number 587 of 1,367 as being

however, the anxiety and stress caused by attempting to balance homework, practicing, a social life, a healthy diet, a halfway decent sleep

evil theme. Throughout the song the newsreader gets louder. This may symbolise to the audience that the evil, tragic and negative things are taking
over and overcoming the world and goodness.
Also because the violence and murder is taking it reminds us that we cannot overlook and forget about these things that are happening.
He mentions the fight in the House of Representatives that broke out, in relation with the civil rights bill. He also about the equality between black
and white people in the 1960's. At this point this is being read the words "all is calm, all is bright" this completely contrast from the subject about
racism but the song is representing a sense of tranquillity as if everything is okay when it is not.
The newsreader talks about may famous and well known subjects that happened in the 1960's. One of the most tragic and gruesome topics is about the
murders of the 9 nurses; he reads "The notorious Richard Speck was accused of murdering 9 student nurses, gruesomely stabbing and strangling them
one by one." The words from silent night are "Silent night, Holy night All is calm all is bright", this is another contrast from the moods portrayed from
the song and the news, and the newsreader is talking about the murders and grief that occurred at this time. This shows the audience another contrast as

Descriptive Essay On Elkton
Elkton, Kentucky is a tiny, rural town that juts off of Highway 68. The heart of the town is the former courthouse. Its steeple shoots proudly into the
sky, displaying a clock of dubious accuracy. Old, brick storefronts form a square around the courthouse, broken only by four streets extending from
the square. When I was young, riding in the backseat, I knew every detail of those streets. There was a movie rental store, with posters I always
strained to read; a tiny library whose young adult section I had thoroughly explored; and a thrift store where I bought fifty cent stuffed animals. Elkton
was small, but I never thought I would need anything more. In my young mind, it was the only town that existed. Elkton was my world. I turned

Nineteen years ago I was born in a little town in southern New Jersey called Manahawkin. It is a tourist town, and even today is genuinely only

There were of course uniforms which stunted all sorts of self–expression, and every Wednesday morning we had chapel. Science classes consisted of

the exact opposite. Places where people of all different colors and lifestyles walked down the streets. Places that stimulated me, that could educate me

"Lets go Connor" My dad said in a bitter tone. "We're out of here."
We left the town hall and went back to our little house. Each adult finding their child and walking back to their little home, which was on the same
street as everyone else 's shack. My Parents and I were both walking in the same place, but Mom and Dad were keeping their distance.
"Why are you to angry?" I asked. Really confused about what was going on between the two as we walked along the walkway to the houses. "Is it
about what happened in the town hall?"
My dad looked at my mom first then to me. Suddenly, he started to shout, "I could care less about what everyone else thought in there. What I'm angry
about is how you mother didn't take my side!"
"We should have a Police force Daryl!" Now my

Our Town Critique: Small Town Life in "Our Town

  • 1. Our Town Critique Jessica Eastep Drama 1310 Art Theater Critique Our Town This movie is a period piece, at the beginning of the 1900's. This is five years before the first automobile comes into play in this town. In this town everyone knows everyone and everyone has basically the same routine. Same paper route, same train route. There are many churches in this town, a mill, a little main street with post office and city hall. Just a basic small town, similar to mine (Crandall). Mrs. Gibbs garden and Mrs. Webb's garden are similar. This is the first play I have seen conducted in this sort of way. The narrator carries you through this story. He does more of the telling of the town, and uses the characters to show you the town. In the beginning the story revolves around the Gibbs and Webb families. At first glance you see into the everyday lives of these people, and how they conduct their daily routine as mentioned before. It's not until the narrator starts bringing in different people from the town that you realize the somewhat testimonies from the characters are breaking the fourth wall, and interacting with the audience in the theater. The big clue that gives this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are different people in this story that are similar in ways and different in many others. The relationships between the different characters like George and Emily and both of their parents are very interesting, all of these relationships and the ways of the town show the biggest reason for the play (in my eyes). The whole point is to show how special the town is, how special the people in the town are. The simple things in life, when life was much easier. The little quirks in the town make it a whole, like the paper boy, the churches, the little store in town, the way the hardware store owner drives crazy. How the entire town is like a family. All of these things make the town simply wonderful. That is what the narrator is trying to portray to us as an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Personal Narrative: Red Maelstrom Red Maelstrom Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto manga/anime and One Piece. manga/anime Ch.5 Kurama ? Point of View Who am I?... What am I?... What's my name?... Do I even have a name? These are the questions that I ask myself since waking up from unconsciousness and they still plague my mind. My appearance from the slight glimpse from drinking water from the river is red fur covering my body, red fluffy ears and tail, red eye with slitted pupils and black pigmentation around my eyes reaching my fluffy ears. Yet it felt wrong, but at the same time it felt right. Months soon pass by, in it's wake no memory came back. During those months a routine was established: wake up, start scavenging for food source be it fruits, berries, insects or fish, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I spend hours exploring the town until finally deciding to get something to eat, but apparently the human with fish didn't take to kindly of me getting some fish. The human chase me throwing sharp pointy things at me. Days went by some I spend hunting in the forest and others in the town grabbing anything edible and got chase. During the time spent in town I learn more about myself, apparently I'm an animal called fox. Even though I got the answers to my questions since waking up with amnesia it didn't feel they were correct. Days later when I went into town it was deserted like a ghost town. An hour went by as I arrived at the port where a pirate ship was docked. Not wanting to deal with pirates I decided to leave to the forest. Yet as I near the edge of town there was a little girl holding a bag running from pirates, but then tripped on a rock. Seeing her fall down and the pirates coming closer something compell me to something to help her. Suddenly I felt something dwelling inside me come out. No sooner the pirates came and for some reason passed the little girl. Nearing the girl I took in her appearance orange hair, brown eyes.

  • 4. ##ie Belle, Scootaloo And The Crusader : A Short Story :... Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo, and Apple Bloom were standing on the arch bridge just outside Ponyville. The three had their eyes cast upon the clear water of the gentle creek. The three Cutie Mark Crusaders had arrived at an impasse. They were no closer to earning their cutie marks and worst of all they had no new ideas on what they could even try. Scootaloo let out a long exasperated sigh. "Huuuuuuuh! Well anyone have an idea?" She asked her fellow crusaders. Apple Bloom perked up for a minute and raised her right hoof in the air. A hopeful and excited look flared up on her face. Opening her mouth she promptly replied, "I got nothing..." She dropped back to lean on the bridge. "This stinks!" Sweetie Belle groused. "At this rate we'll be old gray mares till we find out what our special talents are." "I reckon you're right Sweetie Belle. But what in tarnation can we do?" The young Apple Bloom wondered. "Our last plan didn't turn out so well." Scootaloo sighed again. "Don't remind me. Cutie Mark Crusader "Pet Detectives" was a nightmare." "Tell me about it. What pony in their right mind keeps a skunk as a pet and then loses it?" Sweetie Belle inquired rhetorically. "Guess we'd just better keep brainstormin'," Apple Bloom announced. "Yeah," Scootaloo mumbled back. "I wonder if it was this hard for Princess Luna and Celestia to get their cutie marks." Just then Twilight Sparkle trotted along humming a happy tune. • 5. Personal Aspects Of Natural Disasters Across the World people know what a natural disaster is, but have never actually experienced one first hand. Natural disasters are events that are unexpected, and can ruin a town in a matter of just a few minutes. Just a few hours away from my home town lies a big city that is nicknamed Jomo. This town sounds small and mysterious, but it is actually very well known. This town is Joplin, Missouri. Growing up in a small Southern Missouri town I have experienced multiple tornadoes, but never knew just how dangerous they can be. However, in the month of May 2011 I became very aware of the danger. On May 22, 2011 an EF5 tornado hit the town of Joplin, and destroyed almost half of the city. This event hit very close to home for many people in my community. This tornado is the most expensive tornado in US history, and I first hand got to experience the destruction. A few days after the tornado hit my family and friends decided to go help this nearby town. I thought it was going to be an easy trip, but I ended up seeing things that will never leave my mind. My family and I woke up at four in the morning to begin our two day journey. I was 13 at the time, and knew very little about what was going on before I got to Joplin. We arrived to Joplin around seven, with a whole day of plans ahead of us. I still remember the drive into town. We saw hundreds of people on the side of the street. Most of these people were sleeping on blankets right in the middle of the town. This is when I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Stephen Leacock Stephen Leacock Born in Swanmore, England, Stephen Leacock was one of 11 children of an unsuccessful farmer and an ambitious mother, a woman to whom Leacock no doubt owed his energetic and status–conscious nature. In 1891, while teaching at the prestigious Upper Canada College in Toronto, Leacock obtained a modern language degree from the University of Toronto. In 1903, after receiving a Ph.D. in political economy from the University of Chicago, he joined the staff of McGill University, Montreal, as professor of politics and economics. Leacock's career as a humorist began when he had some comic pieces published as Literary Lapses in 1910. The son who wandered forth in the world was either killed by the cannibals or crawled home years afterwards doubled up with rheumatism. So the old men made the proverb. But nowadays it is exactly wrong. It is the rolling stone that gathers the moss. It is the ambitious boy from Honkville, Indiana, who trudges off to the city leaving his elder brother in the barnyard and who later makes a fortune and founds a university. While his elder brother still has only the old farm with three cows and a couple of pigs, he has a whole department of agriculture with great sheds–full of Tamworth hogs and a professor to every six of them. In short, in modern life it is the rolling stone that gathers the moss. And the geologists––outside of Tennessee––say that the moss on the actual stone was first started in exactly the same way. It was the rolling of the stone that smashed up the earth and made the moss grow. Take another proverb: All is not Gold that Glitters How perfectly ridiculous! Everybody in the days in which we live knows––even a child knows––that all is gold that glitters. Put on clothes enough, appearance enough and you will be accepted anywhere. Just do a little glittering and everybody will think you are gold. Make a show, be a humbug, and you will succeed so fast that presently, being very wealthy and prominent, you will really think yourself a person of great merit and intellect. In other words, the glitter makes the gold. That is all there is to it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Movie Analysis : ' Snow Day ' Imagine growing up in a small, backwards town in North Carolina with a population smaller than that of your average university campus and only one movie theater. Now imagine that with a lot more horse pastures. You've just imagined pretty much my entire childhood in Indian Trail, North Carolina, congratulations. That may sound like a fairly negative description, but I assure you I loved every minute of it. I loved our single ice cream store, Bruster's, and the free chocolate kiddie–cones the employees would give you to make you shut up if you hung around too long begging for food. I loved the park, and all the Saturdays I spent wandering around on empty baseball diamonds and digging up tiny wild onions in the nearby woods while my brother... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It wasn't exactly the home coming I'd always imagined. Our air conditioning had died a couple hundred miles back so I was slick with sweat, more than a little queasy from car sickness and at some point both of my legs had fallen asleep. As I was fighting the uphill battle against the pins and needles in my feet, our car puttered past a dingy green sign proclaiming "Welcome to Indian Trail! Population 35,000." To be completely honest with you, If I hadn't seen the signs, I doubt I would have recognized the town at all. At first glance, my home town had turned into a perfect model of suburbia and I couldn't have been more horrified. Somehow in the nine years I'd been gone, my tiny town had grown from about 5,000 people to seven times that! Now there were sprawling neighborhoods with elaborate names like "Green Briar", coffee shops and strip malls crammed into every street corner, and not one, but several movie theaters. Where was the park? Where were all of those horse pastures and rickety barns? It was like a nightmare come to life. As I sat in the back seat of the car with my forehead pressed against the cool window and my breath fogging up the glass, I watched the unfamiliar landscape crawl by. It felt like an immense betrayal and I understood exactly why I had avoided coming here for so many years; This was the reality I had been trying to avoid. That perfect little ... • 9. Music And Music : Carol Of The Bells This concert was a series of performances by the Limestone College and Community Chorus, as well as a couple of performances by the Limestone College Vocal Ensemble. This is a review of the first half of the concert, which featured performances from the Limestone College and Community Chorus. Carol of the Bells (Ukrainian Carol) by Mykolo Leontovich (1877–1921) Carol of the Bells is a Christmas carol with a unique history. The beginning of what would eventually be popularized as a Christmas carol begin as a Ukrainian traditional folk chant. This leads me to believe that almost all of the issues that arose during the concert were caused simply by the positioning of the performers in the auditorium. The Shepherd's Carol by William Billings (1746–1800) William Billings was an American choral composer, and he is considered to be the first choral composer in American history. He primarily wrote 4–part a capella choir pieces. The Shepard's Carol is a famous piece of his that is a staple of Christmas choir music to this day. The difference in the sound of the choir between the back of the auditorium and on stage is night and day. The stage made their balance so much better, with the bass and tenor voices resonating better through the audience. I also noticed how much stronger the intonation of the choir was when they were closer to the piano accompaniment. The different voices in the choir also have strong blend individually. Rather than it sounding like I am listening to 11 sopranos as indicated on the program, it sounds like I am listening to just a few because of how well those 11 singers blended together. You can tell there is a lot of emphasis on the performance being a group effort rather than a bunch of individual efforts. Carols Around (and around) arranged by Carl J. Nygard, Jr. (b. 1947) Carl J. However, the townsfolk don't know all those layers of personality she hides behind those gentle eyes: She is proud, controlling and secretive. Adela Strangeworth is the protagonist of "The Possibility of Evil" by Shirley Jackson. But she is not a stereotypical grandma; she conceals a secret identity of an anonymous bully, who sends letters to families she think she is "helping" by protecting her little town from evil. Miss Strangeworth is very proud of herself and her family. She believes that her grandpa should have a statue in the middle of the town to honour him and she insists on being called Miss Strangeworth instead of Adela. She's extremely proud the her little house on Pleasant Street and her rose garden. "This house, right here, my family has lived here for better than a hundred years, my grandmother planted those roses', and my mother, just as I do" (Jackson,1941, p.163). Her rose garden is her pride and jewel. She believes her roses' are so sacred, she will not give any to the church for ceremonies. Thats just shows how proud she is. ... When we stepped on the fertile soil, we saw abandoned old houses as If we were in the 1911. We immediately got a sense, we were not alone "I don't know about this place guys lets get out of here" Citaly said, "come on it's not that scary and you promised you would not be scared"Jaylee replied while Citaly and Jaylee were arguing I had picked up a newspaper that was lying on the floor "hey guys look at this I yelled out" I said . That is why I'm sitting in a cold jail cell but I didn't do it! I'll tell you what actually happened that night. I admit I did blow down the house but I could not stop myself I was furious. I am the millennium baby because I was the first baby born in 2000 in the the town of Mexico and I got to ride home in a limo. • 16. Tom Brennan Character Analysis The pain and grief of traumatic road accidents can complicate and severely damage many relationships, especially those in small, close knit communities. The line becomes blurred between perpetrators and victims, as beliefs become doubted, and sympathy arises for those who sadly lost their lives, and those who "move on from a moment that threatens to define them forever" ('Shattered', 2011). Viewers respond to compassion and remorse shown in the stories, typical views of perpetrators and victims become challenged, demonstrating the enormous influence of a person's attitude on other's perspective and opinion of them. Despite the sufferance of victims, they often aren't entirely blameless, as their poor decisions and irresponsibility is ultimately associated with their upsetting and newfound situation. Therefore victims like Fin O'Neil in The Story of Tom Brennan, who ultimately chose to travel in a car with drunken, inexperienced, and impulsive driver, it becomes questionable whether he is also culpable for his injuries. Despite Fin's sobriety and awareness prior to the accident, this does not implicate him, however it becomes debatable whether the outcomes would be alike; with Fin's extensive injuries and crash itself, if the decisions made on Fin's behalf were different. Similarly in the story of 'In My Little Town', Leigh Charter Jnr also decides to travel with a drunk driver, regardless of the risks. Although his alertness was also compromised by alcohol, he holds some level of responsibility in his death. However, in 'Shattered', there are no obvious victims who made poor decisions, due to the situations isolation. Although, it is disputable whether the perpetrator; Peter Hodgkins' friends who witnessed the accident could have altered the outcome. Though, it was voiced to Peter; "don't throw a rock at a car, that's stupid," ('Shattered', 2011) this partly ousts some responsibility, especially due to their intoxication, which is similar to the other stories. We were always outside playing soccer and told each other scary stories to see who was the scary cat of us all. Ever morning we walked to school with our ziplock bags with cereal and milk. Being just a little kid it never came to mind being apart from my cousins. Los Angeles is a very crowded ,fast living place to live in, and extremely expensive in cost of living. My mother was a single parent she couldn't handle the bills by herself, my dad was always out doing nothing but good. My mother felt like she needed to make a change in her life and ours of course. • 20. Steel Town Case Study Jamestown Steeltown U.S.A. was a great read! I enjoyed reading all about Youngstown and the challenges the town had to face. Chapter 4: From "Steel Town" to a "Nice Place to Do Time" was personally one of the best chapters in the book. It was so terribly sad to read about everything the once successful industrialized town had later became. In only twenty short years, Youngstown had evolved into this corrupt place; they even went as far to call it the "murder capital." Once the mills shut down, the town took a major downfall. Poverty, drugs, and crime started to replace the legacy Youngstown once held. Before reading this book, I had no idea that the steel mill closings could cause a town so much damage. What I came to understand was that the closings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mills were closing down because the supply for steel had greatly decreased. The town's lack of industrialization caused other businesses to relocate, so the steel workers were not left with many options. Also, during this time period, it was not very common for women to have a full time job: the steel families really had no option but to leave, but for some that was impossible. I struggle with wrapping my mind around the trouble and heartache these families faced in hopes that Youngstown would find a way out. Knowing very little about Youngstown, I felt that the authors did a nice job revealing information on the town and what it had been through. The struggle the families and community faced was saddening, but it was really interesting to see how they worked together in hopes to restore the town. A few things I really enjoyed about Steeltown U.S.A. were the pictures displayed throughout the book. The picture from the New Republic issue on page 192 with the billboard stating "Welcome to Youngstown" with the bullet holes was my favorite. Could you imagine the feeling that one would have driving into a town with a billboard covered in bullet holes? I know I would do my best to get out of that town as fast as I could! • 21. Follow Your Arrow Study Guide Every small town kid has big dreams, but only some accomplish them. 1. It takes determination, organization, and support for a person to see something through to the end. 2. I am that person; those are my qualities. 3. I believe in persevering until my dreams become reality. 4. Always be oneself no matter how difficult the journey may become. My most significant quality I have is determination, this is well portrayed in the song "Follow your arrow". The lyrics that I absolutely relate too are "Follow your arrow wherever it goes", because people have to follow their dreams. 1. Many times living in a microscopic town, people will know all of someone's business and try to tell that person how far they will or will not make it. 2. Some will say that a person will never make it out of the town and that they will be cemented here forever. 3. This is not true, people should follow their dreams and set goals, with enough determination and effort anything is possible. 4. By following the arrow life has given, always remember to take risks and take advantage of every opportunity that may come a person's way. 5. Then one day, make sure to prove every one of those ... Having lived in Chagrin my entire life, I reluctantly agree with the Urban Dictionary definitions of "usually a small town where very few events of interest occur or a sheltered and naive place to live, where youth can't understand the cruelty of the real world because they're too sheltered by their protective bubble." Reading our weekly town police blotter sheds light that a cat getting locked in a closet is big news and that this little town in Cuyahoga County is a bit isolated and ignorant to the outside world. Yes, I grew up talking a little bit, or should I say tad bit different than most but hey, I am the one giving the speech here. So, you are going to have to listen to my country accent talk for a while. Even though, I do not feel less educated in any way. So my small town in Alabama is just any small town. There is not much to it really, not enough to talk about for a good 10 minutes but if I don't talk about it for 10 minutes I don't pass my class so, who is ready to hear me ramble for a while? I know I am. In my small town the most classiest restaurant is a McDonald's and the store that keeps up with the latest fashion is Walmart. Now you may have an idea of what kind of environment I grew up in. To be honest, my hometown has only a few stoplights, we have a lot of dirt roads, and a lot of wildlife. You can't go anywhere without seeing a tree. Just to let you have a mindset of what the town I grew up in is like, I have a little story to tell you. One day, I guess some people that I do not know who live in my town decided that they were going to rob the only bank we actually have in town. So, they actually stole money from the bank and got away on bicycles. Yep, bicycles. No, this was no high speed chase you see in the movies but these guys got away on their bikes they had at home. So maybe you can see just how small my small town is but I honestly love it. It has taught me to keep a simple eye, it has taught me to appreciate the little things. I will never take for granted the stars that shine at night and how beautiful they are. I will never take for granted the song a bird sings early in the morning to wake you up. I will never take for granted the love that I get from a close family, from a family that has to be close because they pretty much make up the hometown I live in. If we ever decided to move, I think there might be no one left in the town. Still, really there are so many things that I learned from where I grew up. When I do get ... • 33. Benefits Of Small Town Living Growing up in a very little town in Illinois was a lot different than growing up in Houston, Texas. When I was in the fourth grade I found many things to have changed about my surroundings, I currently lived in a place where, the people thought and acted differently. I know now reading about it and understanding more that some of those changes were for the good and some were not. Small town living has its advantages such as, very close friendships, close approximately to may things, and friendly people. Looking back, I also realized that there were a lot of disadvantages such as lack of transportation, affects of a poor education, no opportunities for growth, crime, no diversity, and low paying jobs and housing. Now that I am older, and aware of the affects of living in a small town, I can see how these many things affected my life and will continue affect it in the future. I grew up, the majority of my live, in a town in central Illinois, Kincaid, or better known as South Fork because of the co–op with the schools around us in sports. This town is approximately 20 miles southeast of Springfield, and is only seven miles west from the nearest town, with many opportunities that my town did not offer (City–data). With a total population of 1,495, including the town of Tovey about a mile away, as of July 1, 2015 Kincaid is ranked as number 587 of 1,367 as being a small town in Illinois (Kincaid, IL). Kincaid is only about 0.62 square miles in land areas, and is located in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. What Does It Mean To Be Free We can all recall that time between graduating high school and beginning our freshman year of college. For many people, myself included, going to college meant a chance to finally escape that small town that we called home. The summer began to come to a close, and we could hardly contain our excitement to finally start our new adventure. College began, classes and homework took over our lives, and we made new friends and experienced many memories with them. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, right? While most of my newfound classmates opted to go back to their home towns for the summer, I've decided to stay in my cozy college town, much to my parents disdain. It is wonderful, yet bittersweet to not have to go back to that boring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am free. I am free to make my own decisions. I am free to spend the money that I have earned on whatever I felt like, even though most of it goes towards paying for rent and food. College tends to create a false sense of "being free". It may be true that we are free to do whatever we want, however, the anxiety and stress caused by attempting to balance homework, practicing, a social life, a healthy diet, a halfway decent sleep schedule, and thousands of other factors often would lead to our decisions practically already being made for us. With meals and a bed provided for us, it can be difficult to actually feel like you are on your own. By choosing to live in my college town over the summer, I made the choice that I will have to provide for myself. I have to stay healthy by buying actual food and drinks, not just going to the drive thru at McDonalds every time I'm hungry. I have to make sure I pay electric bills, wifi bills, and water bills, to establish that I have a comfortable living space. At first, I didn't know if I could actually be fiscally responsible enough to save my money and actually make my monthly payments on rent and utilities on time, but that was the best ... Throughout the song the newsreader gets louder. This may symbolise to the audience that the evil, tragic and negative things are taking over and overcoming the world and goodness. • 37. Descriptive Essay On Elkton Elkton, Kentucky is a tiny, rural town that juts off of Highway 68. The heart of the town is the former courthouse. Its steeple shoots proudly into the sky, displaying a clock of dubious accuracy. Old, brick storefronts form a square around the courthouse, broken only by four streets extending from the square. When I was young, riding in the backseat, I knew every detail of those streets. There was a movie rental store, with posters I always strained to read; a tiny library whose young adult section I had thoroughly explored; and a thrift store where I bought fifty cent stuffed animals. Elkton was small, but I never thought I would need anything more. In my young mind, it was the only town that existed. Elkton was my world. I turned thirteen the week my family moved out. With typical youthful energy, I was ecstatic. I never looked back to the little whitehouse; I only looked forward to the beige–colored apartment that, I bragged, was only five minutes from the mall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As I paid my visits to Elkton, a new town revealed itself. Elkton was dying. The sign on the hardware store had fallen on one side, the movie store had bankrupted and closed, and the tiny library was a pathetic joke. I never went back to the thrift store, I had thrown away my stuffed animals long ago, and the place stank of cheap cigarettes. Worst of all, the little house I had once lived in was dead and vacant. Weeds almost swallowed the "For Sale" sign at the road, and a green film grew over the siding. To me, Elkton reeked of decay and hopelessness. I hated the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Descriptive Essay Unconventional Experience Nineteen years ago I was born in a little town in southern New Jersey called Manahawkin. It is a tourist town, and even today is genuinely only known for the island that it is attached to, and even saying that it is "known" is a stretch. Typically, tourists do not even know the name of my town while driving through it. When I arrived at college, I had to constantly answer the question of where I am from. Eventually I learned to just fib a little and say that I am from "Long Beach Island" because people can at least recognize that name. Mentioning the irrelevancy of my town should give you an indicator of what this place was like. Growing up, my home always felt like some sort of flawless utopian town. This is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were of course uniforms which stunted all sorts of self–expression, and every Wednesday morning we had chapel. Science classes consisted of playing with crawfish and the only book we ever read for class was the Holy Bible. If I had continued to be enrolled there up until my high school years, my views of the world would have been entirely different. So not only had I grown up in a school that basically only educated me on the word of God, I also was living in a fairly uniform town. It felt like I was living in a box. I knew that outside of Manahawkin there were places that were the exact opposite. Places where people of all different colors and lifestyles walked down the streets. Places that stimulated me, that could educate me on the issues of the world. In little Manahawkin, I had none of that. I decided that if I was not going to learn from experience, I was going to have to learn through books. At this point in my life I had already been a pretty avid reader. Even when I was a toddler I had attempted to read which was exposed through some home videos showing me pretending to read an upside down book. I blame this all on my mother. She was the reader of the family. Growing up she would always be reading around the house and I constantly wanted to be just as smart as her so I started reading, too. Slowly it became one of my favorite pastimes. It was always so amusing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Why I Should Be Safe From The Giant Mice At last the walking was over. The Sfrums and I stopped like a backwards wave, where they start with there hands up then put there hands down when it comes to them. A day and a half of walking from behind the wall to the rug was finally over. And at that stop, I saw a whole new beginning. "Connor, welcome to your new home!" My mom said cheerfully, "You should be safe from the giant mice" I had a bad feeling about this dark new town of ours, this new town we named Rug had darkness to it. Maybe this change wouldn't be good after all. Or, it could be a great place to live. The town was very peaceful with little pre built houses and a town hall. Every building was made out of little pieces of wood that matched the dark polished brown wood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A criminal started stealing family 's possessions from their new homes and keeping it for him or herself. The adult Sfrums all came together in the town hall shack about this issue but they couldn 't agree. Some were for a police force and others said our town was too small. Others said to have only a few guys and be like a town watch. It was a boring few hours while I was sitting at the steps with the other children in the town. We all get along well but haven't talked to them since the move. Things have been tiring and this is only our first day here. Finally the arguing was over and the new wooden doors creaked open with parents and adults spilling out. Some frustrated, others satisfied. "Lets go Connor" My dad said in a bitter tone. "We're out of here." We left the town hall and went back to our little house. Each adult finding their child and walking back to their little home, which was on the same street as everyone else 's shack. My Parents and I were both walking in the same place, but Mom and Dad were keeping their distance. "Why are you to angry?" I asked. Really confused about what was going on between the two as we walked along the walkway to the houses. "Is it about what happened in the town hall?" My dad looked at my mom first then to me. Suddenly, he started to shout, "I could care less about what everyone else thought in there. What I'm angry
