The Moon is Earth's only natural satellite. It orbits Earth approximately every 27 days and was formed from debris after a Mars-sized object collided with Earth. The Moon has no atmosphere and experiences extreme temperature ranges. Its surface features include mountainous highlands, flat plains called maria formed by ancient lava flows, and large impact craters. Future plans may include establishing a lunar base to support long-term human exploration and utilization of the Moon.
