Documentary
For Group 10 by: James Binder 11W
 The theme is based on Drug abuse but
more specifically youth drug abuse.
 The Subject matter will be the side effects
of drug abuse on academics, health and
social life of youths. This will also include
the statistics of youths of which are drug
abusers.
Theme and Subject Matter
Genre
 A Genre of a documentary will include,
interview styles, narrator voice-overs,
different shooting techniques and archival
material of reconstructed event or
examples.
Interview Style and Narrator
voice-over
 Our documentary interview style will
include the Noddy Shot (Most Common
Camera angle for an interview)
 The Narrator voice over will happen
throughout the documentary when text is
presented as the main focus or to discuss
images on screen, unless it is subtitles of
dialogue.
Shooting Techniques and Archival
material/Reconstruction
 The Shooting techniques will include a cutaway (this is for
narration to discuss an idea on the subject matter). Cut-ins
can be used before an interview giving the audience a brief
understanding of the person being interviewed. Very Wide
Shots can be used different environments so the audience
gets a sense of atmosphere about the subject matter,
usually for dark alleys or areas of interest. A panning mid
shot will be used when the narrator is talking in the
background, this can be used in school to give a sense that
this problem is based on youths.
 Archival Material and or reconstruction of events or
examples can be used to show about how certain events
happened based on the subject matter. Reconstruction can
be used to make an example to simulate an event based
on the subject matter.
 We will talk about how youth drug abuse
affects Hong Kong.
 How many are affected yearly
 What this does to younger people through
side effects
 How does this affect school and health
 Charities that help people stop drug abuse
What is the Theme, Genre, Subject matter,
Interviews, shooting techniques and
archive/reconstruction.
 We will interview people from a certain
charity called KELY
 We will use certain questions for the
interview to get relevant and important
information and send in advance before
the interview
 If lucky we can be able to interview a
person in KELY to see past experience on
this problem

Our direction for the documentary
