Essay Examining the Irish Republican Army
Examining the Irish Republican Army Throughout history mass movements have contributed to
changing the face of the world. Some most notable are that of the Bolsheviks and the Nazis. These
movements and others like them have emerged as a result of the mistreatment of people, to preserve a
group of people or propagate an idea or view. No matter the reason behind the start of the group, they
all have one goal; the end result of every mass movement is to bring change. The mass movement that
will be discussed is the Irish Republican Army, otherwise known as the IRA. The catalyst that caused
its formation, a specific identification and analysis of the membership and the societal, religious,
cultural, political, and national effect it had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beyond that, the goal of the Irish Volunteers was to Secure and maintain the rights and liberties
common to the whole people of Ireland. In fact, this goal was similar, if not the same, only worded
differently to the Irish Republican Army. Beyond that, they were also established to enforce the
imminent Home Rule Devolution. Act. Now, these Volunteers were formed in response to the
formation of the Ulster Volunteer in 1913. The Ulster Volunteers were founded by Protestant Unionists
in the north. Indeed, their goal was to stop the enactment of the Home Rule Devolution. Act.
Incidentally, the Ulster Volunteers were mainly against the Irish Volunteers because they consisted of
Catholics that wanted to be independent from British rule. Meanwhile, the Ulster Volunteers wanted to
stay under British rule (Irish Volunteers).
In brief, the Irish Volunteers exist to help keep the liberties and rights common to all people of Ireland
by enforcing the Home Rule Devolution. Act that the Ulster Volunteers were fighting to abolish.
However, during the events of the Easter Rising, the Irish Volunteers were forced to disband. After
their end, Michael Collins and a few other remnants took up the mantle and rebranded themselves the
IRA. At first glance, it would seem as though the IRA only exists because of the disbanding of the
Irish Volunteers. What is more is that they were members of the Volunteers continuing on their goals.

Sustainable Income and Net Income
Lupita Mora Rubio Chapter 13 Questions September 10, 2012
#1 Sustainable income (SI): When companies look at present year net income to estimate future cash
flows it must make sure it does not include irregular items. Irregular items can be losses, gains,
revenues, or expenses. Net income (NI) adjusted for irregular item is SI. SI is the most likely level of
income to be obtained in the future for the company. SI is different than NI as it does not include the
irregular items in the actual year NI.
What relationship does this concept have to the treatment of irregular items on the income statements?
SI is of value as it contains the NI without the noise of irregular items. Example of irregular item is a

Police Views On The Police
In recent years tensions have been on the rise between blacks and police, moreover, it only seems to
keep getting worse due to the falling justice system of police not being held accountable for their
actions. Furthermore, in this article it talks compares percentages of how Blacks, Whites, and
Hispanics feel about the police in their local communities. Also, there are racial gaps on how each
views the performance of police. The Black and Hispanic community agree that fatal encounters with
police are a social problem than whites. Moreover, all three groups feel like there s dual motives

coverage error is very evident with Whites making up the majority of the survey. Also, 78% of blacks
and 81% of Hispanics use the internet, compared with 85% of whites and 97% of English speaking

The response rate for the web in August was 81% (4,195 out of 5,150 of web based participants),
moreover, the mail had a response rate of 76% (343 out of 454 non web participants). There was non

Analysis of Internet Protocols and Infrastructure Essay
Analysis of Internet Protocols and Infrastructure Introduction:
Network: Anything reticulated or decussated at equal distances, with interstices between the
intersections. A Dictionary of the English Language
SECTION : 1
1.1 WHAT IS A NETWORK?
A) What is a network?
A network is simply a collection of machines connected in some way that allows them to
communicate with each other and share information. To do this the machines have to be connected in
some way that allows communication, and have an agreed upon a language to talk when they do
communicate.
Components of a network might include individual hosts, some form of communications hardware, a
network protocol and a collection of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
· WAN (wide area network)
Much larger than a LAN and all machines are not directly connected. WANs will generally have a
lower throughput than a LAN. All of the LANs on the CQU campus connect and form a WAN.
1.4 SOME MORE DEFINITIONS
Like any field of computing, networking has its own terminology. This section provides definitions for
some of the terms you ll come across.
· Packets and datagrams
Many networking protocols transmit information as packets. Information being sent across the
network is divided into small (hundreds of bytes usually) chunks of data, called packets. The
networking software at the sending end will break the outgoing data into packets. When the packets
arrive at their destination the networking software on the receiving machine will put them all back
together.
In some cases not all the packets will arrive at the destination using the same route. The packets may
also arrive out of order, packet 50 might arrive before packet 49. The networking software handles all
of this.
Under TCP/IP packets are often referred to as datagrams. Ethernet, on type of networking hardware,
refers to packets as frames
· Routing
The art of deciding which route data from one machine takes to get to another. In many cases their are
multiple different possible routes that can be taken and the routing software must decide which to
take.

Medicine and Herbal Remedies Throughout the Sixteenth Century
Shakespeare, self proclaimed poet and renowned playwright, lived in the age of the Renaissance.
More specifically, the time at which the Tudor family ruled England, during these times, there were
deep rooted religious cleansings and ongoing witch hunts, that sought out anyone and everyone that
did not follow suit. Shakespeare (1564 1616A.D.) was born in, and lived through the medical
renaissance, which was the point between 1400 and 1700A.D. that innovated the medicines used in
Europe. These treatments were eventually diffused throughout the world. The most typical consensus
made by medical technicians of the time believed in the body to be maintained up by a balance of
bodily humors (liquids), though during the mid 1500s new methods of ... Show more content on

Melancholy was affiliated with black bile, earth and a cold, dry environment. If a patient was thought
to have an excess of a particular humor, measures would be taken to lessen that value, such as blood
letting (sanguine), dietary changes and bodily purging. In Tudor England, the knowledge of humors
and their use in medicine become widely acknowledged and accepted, and these humors impact on a
person s temperament also became used. Stemming from beliefs in ancient Greece, the people in that
era believed that one s general mood and state of mind was affected by the overall balance of humors
in their body, if a particular humor dominated then the personality it personified would become
present in the individual. Elizabethan people believed that the humors gave off vapors that traveled to
the brain, causing a certain behavioral pattern to surface The humours gave off vapors which ascended
to the brain; an individual s personal characteristics (physical, mental, moral) were explained by his or
her temperament, or the state of that person s humours . Thus, a person with balanced humors had a
balanced disposition. Too much sanguine in a person led to an optimistic and generally positive
attitude, albeit an irresponsible one. Choler made one wrathful and ambitious. A phlegmatic person
had characteristics that were slothful and cowardly. Finally, a person overwhelmed by melancholy was

There are many mysteries about the smallpox virus. Since the seventeenth century, doctors have
understood that if the pustules merge into sheets across the body the victim will usually die: the virus
has split the whole skin. If the victim survives, the pustules turn into scabs and fall off, leaving scars.
This is known as ordinary smallpox.
Some people develop extreme smallpox, which is loosely called black pox. Doctors separate black
pox into two forms flat smallpox and hemorrhagic smallpox. In a case of flat smallpox, the skin
remains smooth and doesn t pustulate, but it darkens until it looks charred, and it can slip off the body
in sheets. In hemorrhagic smallpox, black, unclotted blood oozes or runs from the mouth and other
body orifices. Black pox is close to a hundred per cent fatal. If any sign of it appears in the body, the
victim will almost certainly die. In the bloody cases, the virus destroys the linings of the throat, the
stomach, the intestines, the rectum, and the vagina, and these membranes disintegrate. Fatal smallpox
can destroy the body s entire skin both the exterior skin and the interior skin that lines the passages of
the body.
Smallpox virus s scientific name is variola. It means spotted in Latin, and it was given to the disease
by a medieval bishop. The virus, as a life form, comes in two subspecies:

identification of unknown organic compound
Identification of Unknown Organic Compound by Melting Point (M.P), Boiling Point (B.P) and
Infrared Spectroscopy
Methods and Background The main objective of this lab is to identify the given unknown organic
compounds with various methods. Identification of an unknown compound is important to perform
through the process of melting point (M.P), boiling point (B.P) and Infrared spectroscopy (I.R). Index
of Hydrogen deficiency (IHD) and elemental analysis makes an experiment more efficient in
determination of unknown compound. The color, odor, melting point and boiling point determines the
physical state and properties of a compound. It also determines its volatility in respect to temperature.

Rhetorical Analysis Of A Hanging
In A Hanging, George Orwell utilizes the rhetorical appeals of pathos and ethos in historical context to
convince the audience that the unjustifiable execution of a person is not only barbaric, but unethical.
This is successful because of his sensitive word choice and sympathetic tone. Through his cleaver use
of language techniques and word selection, Orwell evokes the reader s sympathy for the prisoner s
struggles. He repeatedly shows that the prisoners are treated like animals. In the opening lines of the
essay, the setting is described immediately highlights the inhumane conditions in which the prisoners
are contained in. We notice this when the author is describing the cells, he states, we are waiting
outside the condemned cells, row of sheds fronted with double bars, like small animal cages (Orwell
93). It is evident again when he is describing the way it took six guards to escort the prisoner. He says
it was like men handling a fish which is still alive and may jump out of the water (Orwell 94). The
sprouting moustache, absurdly too big for his body (Orwell 93), and a puny wisp of a man (Orwell 93)
suggests malnourishment and neglect among this prisoner, but the reader can infer that this treatment
is spread out amongst all the prisoners. In contrast with this sickly man, he describes the prison guards
as tall Indian warriors (Orwell 93) and even describes one guard in particular as a fat Dravidian
(Orwell 94). The details of these well fed men in comparison to this ill man fuels a feeling of
sympathy towards the prisoner. He provides these details to evoke sympathy for the prisoner to prove
that killing a man is unethical. Through the appeal of pathos, we can empathize with George Orwell.
Orwell never states in the essay as to why the Hindu man was to be hanged. He does not want the
reader to form an opinion on whether or not the prisoner should be executed or not. Instead, he builds
his essay in a way in which he directs us to a path that only argues that taking a life is wrong, no
matter the crime. When he says till that moment, I had never realized what it means to destroy a
healthy conscious man (Orwell 95), the reader is able to empathize with him. Before he says this, the
reader

Before taking part in my SLT, my opinion was that ethnic diversity inherently conflict. Looking back

appreciated, however, the new perspectives that were brought to my attention through the discussion I

a tad too idealistic for my liking. Some points contention recurred throughout the seminar s small

Importance Of High School Football
Being a high school football player is difficult at times, but student athletes can make this very easy if
they want it to be. I played high school football all four years, and it was easy to me because I played
with my teammates in middle school too. Because of that, my team trusted each other and depended
on each other during the game of football. My football team was on its way to a state championship
because we came together, did our assignments in the game and worked hard everyday in practice.
Coming together was very easy for us since we played on the middle school team. We had spring and
summer workouts and practices every year. During the spring, we got together and tuned in our plays
that we ran from the previous year. During the summer the team had to spend the night in the gym and
wake up at five o clock in the morning to get ready for practice. The team got to spend even more time
together, and spending the night in the gym made us come together more. I was quarterback, so I was
the leader of the team, so the had to look up to me. I was already friends with everyone on the team, so
I knew I had their trust. I still had to do my job though. I had to make every hand off and throw count.
As quarterback, I spent my time with the receivers a lot. Throwing down the field to the receiver for
the first time that year was spot on. When he caught the ball; I ran down the field and celebrated with
him after he scored. Have you ever wondered how much pressure you would

My First Encounter With Pulleys
Let s talk about pulleys today! I have some pulleys here. Will anyone assemble them? My high school
physics teacher looked around our classroom.
I raised my hand, walked to the front of the classroom and took up a pulley. Bending down, I
concentrated hard on the system in front of me.
This scene brought me back to my first encounter with pulleys in the science center years ago. A voice
echoed in my mind loudly and clearly: Don t be obsessed and carry on! The story of that day started to
unfold before my eyes.
As I walked into the City Science Center, I found the very place which had appeared in my dream
hundreds of times: a large interactive science area. As I had always expected, the science center
included not only topics I was curious about, but also topics of which I had never heard. For a seven
year old, there was a lot to explore and I remember myself wishing I could try them all at once. So
after saying Cheese! perfunctorily in front of my mom s camera, I ran into the nearest exhibition
without any hesitation.
Tired of controlling the flow of the waterfall model with my voice, I noticed some other kids pushing
around small carts. They were building houses! I immediately joined the group. To build a balcony for
the house, I had to elevate building materials to the second floor. According to the instruction of the
project, I was supposed to achieve the task with the help of pulleys. How did pulleys work? How did I
use a pulley? Which kind of pulleys should I use?

ACTION RESEARCH IN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT A FRAMEWORK FOR RELEVANT
AND RIGOROUS RESEARCH by Dag Näslund University of North Florida and Lund University
Rahul Kale University of North Florida and Antony Paulraj University of North Florida
INTRODUCTION Scholars in the field of business management have frequently debated the relative
importance of rigor and relevance in business research. In fact, there are an increasing number of
articles that discuss the problems associated with the lack of relevance in published business research.
Relevant research develops insights that help managers understand themselves and their organizations

In spite of its potential to address relevant research questions, few published action research based
articles exist within the field of supply chain management (Näslund 2002). In fact, these studies are so
rare that they almost constitute the White Space of research in the field (Frankel and Näslund 2005).
One reason for this reluctance to adopt AR can be attributed to the lack of rigor in some of the
previously published works. Alvesson (1996, p.456) wrote ...much qualitative research is as
superficial as questionnaire studies. Case research has, unfortunately, been used as an excuse for
industrial tourism visiting lots of organisations without any pre conceived ideas as to what is being
researched (Voss, Tsikriktsis, and Frohlich 2002, p.196). Similarly, a criticism of AR is that it more
resembles consulting versus rigorous research; that is, consulting masquerading as research (Coughlan
and Coghlan 2002, p.237). Naturally, being applied and relevant cannot and should not be an excuse
for doing research that is not rigorous. Accordingly, when a rigorous methodology is adopted, AR can
provide significant research contributions for both practice and academia. With the belief that rigor
and relevance are essential

Emotions In Renaissance Music
Throughout history, emotions have played a big part in contributing to society. Emotions whether they
have been happy, angry, fear or even joy, have also played a part in the type of art Humanity has
created, whether it be visual art, film, drama, or even music. These emotions are prevalent in art.
These emotions have also inspired artists to create what they intended to create. But there is one such
emotion that has played an important role in what has inspired art, and that is Melancholy. This type of
emotion is sometimes associated with Renaissance music. Melancholy is usually synonymous with
gloom, misery, sadness, unhappiness, joyless, woe, lachrymose, and even heavyhearted. Some of these

Melancholy is not limited to songs however; instruments such as the lute, the violin, and even the
harpsichord can contain elements of melancholy. An example of this is, Lachrimae Pavan which was
composed by John Dowland as a lute piece. Lachrimae Pavan was composed in 1596, and there is also
the tear motif, and this is a common staple in music of the Renaissance that would contain
melancholy. The tear motif is not just limited to lute songs or voice accompanied by lute; it is also
featured in madrigals, and chansons, and many of John Dowland s pieces contained elements of
melancholy and the tear motif. On the subject of melancholy, it is quite possible for the cure for

melancholy, it will also talk about the tear motif and Lachrimae Pavane, flow my tears and how it
relates to melancholy, how arguably the cure for melancholy is melancholy itself, and it will argue on
how melancholy is an important theme in

Creation Myths Essay
Creation Myths
Who made who? Did God create humans or did humans create god? At first thought one
would of course say God created humans. Man cannot create god! What fool would dare say
such a thing! After all the definition of God says that it is the supreme being and the divine
creator, not the divine creation. So of course God created man, right? Or shall we dig a little
deeper into this question and examine it from the other side? Is God just a figment of mans
elaborate imagination? Could it be that God is a mythological tool used by man to manipulate the
mind to give explanations to the unexplainable? If this is true then humans created god.

Years past, and as time went by man obtained more and more knowledge about the

Gods that would satisfy mans starving imagination and explain their existence. Expanding from
the elementary elemental based gods of the Egyptians came more evolved gods. Gods that were
more than just dominators over the elements. Gods that expressed a plethora of emotions toward

1) Which of the six colors of the rainbow is refracted the greatest?
Out of the 7 colors of the rainbow, Violet is refracted the greatest.
2) What is a mirage and why does it always disappear as the observer gets closer?
A mirage is a naturally occurring optical phenomenon in which light rays are bent to produce a
displaced image of distant objects or the sky. Mirages appear at very low viewing angles, when you
are far away. As you approach, the viewing angle increases and the mirage disappears, or moves
farther away. The reflection of heat dissipates in the human eye causing the mirage or blur to vanish.

The same cloud that is not fog on lower ground may be fog where it contacts higher ground such as
hilltops or mountain ridges. A cloud is a visible mass of condensed droplets or ice crystals suspended
in the atmosphere above the surface of the Earth or another planetary body. The branch of
meteorology in which clouds are studied is nephrology.
13) If you see towering puffy clouds in the afternoon, you are probably seeing what kind of cloud?
A cumulonimbus Cloud.
What does this mean for the weather forecast this afternoon and early evening?
Cumulonimbus clouds are mostly affiliated with thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall, blizzard or
hail. The forecast should reflect rain or chances of rain.
14) What is a weather satellite and how does it help us make forecasts?
A weather satellite is used by meteorologists to gather information about the weather. Weather
satellites give meteorologists a view of weather patterns over a very large area. This enables
meteorologists to track large weather patterns and make more accurate predictions of future weather
behavior.
15) How do computers help weather forecasting?
Using computers in meteorology helps weather forecasters analyze the atmosphere by drawing
weather maps separately for each of several atmospheric levels. Then the computer can put it all
together and generate a prediction.
Can we just let the computer tell us what the weather will be without human

Janie soon realizes that her job is too simply to be pretty and not have a voice in simple conversation

crave for power effect his life. He probably never loved Janie rather he saw her as an object. This
reflects how the society of that time saw women. They were items that greater empowered the man
they married. The marriage comes to a bitter end as Janie learns that being by herself in the world is
not so bad.
Overall the search and craving for power can send even the humblest man to extreme hostility. He was
not afraid to do whatever it takes to get the high pedestal in life. He controlled other people s lives and
property to feel secure in himself. This lead to the power crazed man that Janie ended up marring. He
revealed himself to not be the love of Janie s life rather a man who abused her beauty to gain power.

Bruce Braley Commercial Analysis Essay
The claim in the commercial for Bruce Braley is that Bruce Braley wants to help the people of Iowa.
Throughout the commercial Braley uses a combination of ethos, logos, and pathos to get people to
vote for him. Coupled with the use of the video, audio, and text track he provides a commercial that
provokes the audience to think of Braley as the guy to help Iowa. The first track we hear being used is
the audio track. To start off they say his father died and it was the most difficult time in his life. Than
they go on to talk about it was Bruce s mom, Marcia, that helped get him back on his feet and
convinced him to follow his dream. Although this does represent Braley s perseverance through tough

The word Braley whether used in a name or elsewhere is constantly present on the screen. He uses his
name Bruce Braley as well as his website brucebrayle.com as a way to advertise himself. At the time
of this commercial being aired many people might not know who he is, so as a way to become more
known he is trying to get his name out there as much as possible. He also puts his mom s name Marcia
Braley in the commercial. This helps build the connection and relatability between Bruce Braley and
his mom, Marcia Braley. The reason this connection is helpful is because it makes him seem more like
his mother who, in the commercial, is displayed as a strong kind woman. This connection implies that
Bruce Braley might also have these same traits as he is her own son. Finally at the end of the video we
see an outline of the state of Iowa with the name Bruce Braley For U.S. Senate . This use of the visual
track is not subtle at all. The director purposely did this to make it seem like if Braley got voted for
US Senate he would be all about helping Iowa in Washington, just like how he is helping Iowans right

Lansoprazole
Introduction
The stomach naturally produces acid, which is mainly responsible for food digestion and destruction
of any foreign pathogen or bacteria ingested with food. Acid is secreted by stimulating the partial cells
located in the inner lining of the stomach to release acid in response to a stimulant of food ingested,
sight of food, smell, or taste. This acid secretion renders the stomach pH to be very low, this strong
acid is an irritant to the stomach. In protection of the stomach, a mucus layer is present to shield the
lining of the stomach from damage caused by the acid. When this protective mucus layer is damaged,
ulcers are formed and even to the point of perforation of stomach (hole that causes a bleed in the
stomach).

Sex Education And Comprehensive Sexual Education

general... for every secondary school pupil to be in receipt of sexual education (Cumper 16). The
phrase it s better to be safe than sorry applies heavily on the topic of sex education, the idea of a

In contrast, The practice of avoiding sexual intercourse until marriage. Abstinence only sex education
programs focus on abstinence as the standard and preferred lifestyle for young people and emphasize
the benefits of refraining from intercourse ( Flynn 5). While abstinence only education discusses
contraceptives, the idea of remaining pure until marriage is pushed through out. Even though there are
numerous forms of sex ed, the former is ideal due to teenagers being knowledgeable about either path
they take, and doing so safely.
The infamous ideal of waiting until marriage, no matter if it s right or not, is claimed as the set
standard of youth: Nationally, rates of teen sexual activity have declined over the past fifteen years,
yet even so, about half of all high school youth report having sex and more than one in five report
having had four or more partners by the time they graduate from high school (Dailard 73). Some
teens, in fact about half are able to abstain from sex, meaning no pregnancy, and no STDs and the
number is only growing. There is no question...that increased abstinence meaning delayed vaginal
intercourse among young people has played a role in reducing both teen pregnancy rates in the United

The Process Of A Student
Student interns either schedule a follow up appointment with the patient or they are done and walk
them out. The student goes to their office and puts a progress note of wat happened in E record. The
intern will then fax all the appropriate referrals for the patient on to the agencies that will be providing
the services. The next stage in the logic model is outputs. In case management this would be the
patients receiving the services we helped them sign up for. To make sure that this happens the interns
have to call places that they have faxed the patient s information to, to see if and when they will be
accepted into that program. If they will not be accepted the student needs to bring the patient back in
and find a different solution for the patient. Sometimes for the patient to receive the services the
student has to go out into the field. In Rochester, they have now set new restrictions on when and
where you can go to food pantries. There are some places that only case managers can go. The student
could go and get food for their patients, if their patients and the students could not find a local pantry
to help the patient. Outcomes for the logic model are broken up into three part short term,
intermediate, and long term. The short term outcomes are because of case management patients will
learn what services are available to them in the community and be able to take advantage of them.

increased income and improved standard of living, which is imperative. Public policy in mobilizing
financial resources for agricultural development has not been very effective for a number of reasons.
First, there have been no consistent and effective policies to make private investment in agriculture
more attractive due to persistently low productivity. While this has not induced the necessary
industrial growth in the sector to create larger markets for farm output, it has also curtailed free flow
of funds from the private sector. As a result, the bulk of the investment in agriculture has been from
state resources. The proportion of agricultural output in the GDP which was close to 60 percent during

negative trend since the National Economic Empowerment Development Strategy (NEEDS) was

Although it is because of his love to Holly, all the things he does to the guiltless father shows his

The whole story is based on a real life murder spree of Charles Starkweather and his girlfriend. To
follow Starkweather s action, Kit also kills three bounty hunters, his friend Cato and an innocent
teenage couple who just arrive to visit Cato. It seems that killing people is his way to solve problems.
Compared to Badlands, Kit s idol Jim Stark still shows sympathy to his best friend Plato, and tries to

to have an impact on climate 250% greater than that of the lowest. The reason being individuals with
large disposable incomes are more able to afford flights, drive more and generally travel further.
With specific reference to flying and driving, both studies also found high earners to be the largest

household incomes of people using Stanstead airport to be much higher than the national average.

A Literary Analysis Of Esperanza Rising By Pam Muñoz Ryan
Literary Analysis of Esperanza Rising To foreshadow events in books or to tell the meaning of a story,
authors often use symbolism. Symbolism uses people, places, or things that have their own meaning,
to express something different. The author of Esperanza Rising, Pam Muñoz Ryan, uses a certain fruit
or vegetable to symbolize events of emotions that occur in the chapter. Three chapters in Esperanza
Rising that represent an important part of the book are Los Higos, Las Cebollas, and Los Aquacates.
In Esperanza Rising, figs, onions, and avocados symbolize a new beginning, the acceptance of starting
anew, and the rewards followed after hardship. Los Higos, or figs, represent a new beginning, because
of Esperanza s journey through the fig orchard. Mama and Esperanza execute their plan, in which they

Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
Review: Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people over the
age of 50. Every ten years after the age of 50 the prevalence of this disease increases exponentially.
Many different factors contribute to the development of AMD including genetic, environment, and
metabolic functions. Aside from smoking, abnormal blood pressure, and an unhealthy diet low in
fruits and vegetables, many more studies are concluding that similar inflammatory and oxidative
processes seen in other age related diseases are also playing a key role in the development of AMD.
This disease affects the central areas of the retina and choroid. In return central vision is impaired
while peripheral vision is usually not lost. AMD is seen in two different forms, the earlier
nonneovascular (dry) type and the more advanced neovascular (wet) type. Each form has its own
specific pathology and unique characteristics that set them apart. Fatty, protein deposits called drusens
may be the key risk factor in understanding dry AMD pathology, progression, and treatment. Once the
more advanced wet AMD is diagnosed, pathology and treatment are targeted around the formation and
destruction of abnormal blood vessels, characteristic of the wet AMD eye. The increasing prevalence
of AMD has influenced more investigation into what factors can be modulated to prevent the onset or
to stop the progression of AMD. This text will discuss the pathology of drusens and the role of
inflammation and

Eosinophilic Esophagitis Research Paper
Eosinophilic esophagitis
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic, immune mediated condition (T helper cell 2 allergen
mediated process) and an increasingly recognized clinical pathologic entity. Current criteria include:
symptoms of esophageal dysfunction, minimum 15 eosinophils in at least one high power microscopy
field on biopsy and exclusion of other potential causes as the most important differential diagnosis is
GERD [13]. Symptoms can be non specific. In infancy, the major complaints include food intolerance
and failure to thrive. Abdominal pain, food impaction, nausea and emesis can be found in adolescents
[13]. The suggestive signs of EoE on endoscopy (esophageal rings, strictures or narrow caliber; linear

Associated morbidities of SIBO are anemia, malabsorption, and malnutrition [14].
Diagnosis can be made with the hydrogen glucose breath test. However, a methane measurement
improves the sensitivity of the hydrogen breath test and decreases false positive results. Hydrogen
production originates from non digestable lactose. In patients with CF, the colonic flora frequently
does not produce hydrogen, whereas the methane production is higher [19].
Treatment (Table 3) includes antibiotics, especially orally, with improvement of fat digestion and
absorption [15]. Other treatment options are pre and probiotics. Prebiotics are selectively fermented
ingredients that promote specific changes in the composition and activity in the gastrointestinal
microflora that will benefit the flora. They are not metabolized by pathogenic bacterial strains and
induce a proliferation of the beneficial microbionts [20]. Probiotics are live bacteria that provide a
positive effect on the inflammatory response of the gastrointestinal tract by improving the endothelial
intestinal barrier, diminishing the bacterial adhesion, lowering the pH intraluminal and enhancing the
production of nitrogen oxide [19, 20]. De Lisle et al. also showed a positive effect of laxativa and N
acetylcysteine. Mucus accumulation was reduced by 43% and 50% respectively with a

Artificial Tanning Research Paper
Indoor tanning under the age of 18 increases your risk of skin cancer by 75% (Division of Cancer
Prevention Ceanter). Over 10,000 people are expected to die this year from UV related causes.
However, many people will disregard these facts and continue on with their harmful habits. There are
many effects of artificial tanning and prolonged exposure to the sun. Many people have no idea about
the risks of prolonged exposure to the sun, how dangerous artificial tanning actually is, or how
radiation is not the only harmful trait of indoor tanning.
Prolonged exposure to the sun has many different effects on one s health. Overexposure to the sun
affects people s health in positive and negative ways. It causes basal cell carcinoma, a skin cancer
caused by overexposure to the sun. Prolonged exposure to the sun can also lead to squamous cell

Indoor tanning before the age of 35 increases a person s cancer risk by 87% (Georgetown Nursing

caused by an allergic reaction. If one s skin does not tolerate the rays well, a rash can occur. A person s
skin becomes wrinkled and leathery earlier than usual. Indoor tanning is actually more harmful than
outdoor tanning. Indoor tanning exposes one to harsher rays, and the UVA radiation is three times
stronger than the UVA in natural sunlight. When a person gets burned from a tanning bed it it more
harmful than getting burned from natural sunlight. There are many other hidden dangers about tanning

The Science Of Shopping By Malcolm Gladwell
Situation Malcolm Gladwell is currently a non fiction writer for The New Yorker. After college, he
took a journalism position in Indiana and later took a position in Washington. In 1996, he moved to
New York, where he is today. He has written five books and each has been on the New York Times
best seller list (Famous Authors). In his first year of working as a journalist for The New Yorker, he
wrote, The Science of Shopping. In this piece, Gladwell objectively evaluates Paco Underhill s
research within the business industry. Underhill would have from a hundred to five hundred pages and
pages of carefully annotated tracking sheets and anywhere from a hundred to five hundred hours of
films for each experiment that he conducts (99). With Underhill s determination and research, and
Gladwell s journalistic qualities, this report changes the way anyone views shopping. Because
businesses were struggling in the late 1990 s, Malcolm discusses the issue in a public report to draw
the attention of those affected. Gladwell writes in his report, But today [speaking of 1996], with the
retail business in crisis, it is a gold mine. The time per visit that the average American spends in a
shopping mall was sixty six minutes last year down from seventy two minutes in 1992 and is the
lowest number ever recorded (99). In 1990, the average age for readers of The New Yorker was 46
(New Yorker). Not to mention, the average household income of those readers in 1990 was higher than

With pitch black darkness surrounding me I trudged...
With pitch black darkness surrounding me I trudged forward. I was all alone except for the two large
brick buildings adjacent to me. As I walked I told myself Eyes open. Ears open. Commence your
senses. Put your guard up and keep it there. There is danger all around. Be like a ninja. The sidewalk I
was walking on was no longer concrete, but instead grass due to the fact that the grass had not been
cut in months. Oddly enough the more I walked the warmer I got even though it was the middle of
winter. No one had lived in the apartments near me and my family for about a year. It had seemed like
we had been forgotten about. At the back of the desolated apartment complex we were all alone.
As I moved onward I noticed an odd smell coming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I could hear what was going on. In the distance I could hear my father speaking with one of the
residential managers of the apartments. Closer by I could hear the firefighters speaking amongst
themselves while at the same time putting out the fire. It seems as if it was caused by someone staying
in the house. Was someone supposed to be in here? It looks abandoned... one of them said. No. no one
was supposed to be here. Lately we have been having a bit of a problem with drug dealers and
prostitutes coming in and causing a lot of trouble. It could have been caused by one of them... the
manager whispered. I closed the door. I could not bear to hear anymore. What happened to the nice,
lovely place we had lived in when we first moved in? It seemed as if everything went downhill over
night. Dammit if only my dad had not lost his job. We would not have to live in this god awful, roach
infested, drug filled place. My brothers and I deserve to live and grow up in a nice place! did not take
long for them to put out the fire did it? recounted my dad to my mom. Yes but that is not what I am
saying to you. Pay attention! We need to get out of here as soon as possible! It is simply unsafe! I can
not, no will not, raise my children here! Sell some of our stuff if you have to! Take out a loan for

Monitoring Internet Privacy
While everyone might think that clearing search history, deleting a picture or tweet might make it
disappear forever, it is not true. If the government wanted to they could monitor your internet use.
While this could be helpful it is also harmful. I do not think the government should be able to monitor
your internet use, unless they have a reason to. While monitoring internet content does not violate any
of the amendment it is an invasion of privacy. Most young adults and teens only use the internet as
means of communicating. It does not harm anyone in any way. While most people are using internet
for good, some people may not be. There are many cases of cyber bullying that could be going on, and
adults may not know. Since cyber bullying is becoming a bigger issue as technology advances, and
certain apps come out that could be used for bullying it could be helpful to be able to monitor internet
use. So as for local government it makes sense that they could monitor internet content if a problem is
brought to their attention. As for federal and state goverment, they do not need to monitor your
internet use unless they have a reason to. Such as terorist websites or threatening emails that ... Show

Rida K Liamsi Poetry Analysis
Viva Maritime within Rida K Liamsi s Poetry
The notion of maritime is one of themes frequently brought up by a poet. Energetic enthusiasm in
facing life in maritime society has inspired poets to write a conception about maritime. This research
aims at analyzing maritime concept included within four poetry by Rida K Liamsi, namely Laut,
Tempuling, Pancang Nibung I, and Kemejan. Descriptive method is used in order to explain maritime
concept contained in those four poetry. The research result shows that those four poetry raise about the
rigorous of life obstacles inside maritime territory. These poetry are yielded on the basis of Malay
eagerness to live in a maritime zone. These Malays are depicted to struggle with never give up spirit in
confronting life cycle. Though in every fight results win and failure, the Malay people never surrender
to fate. Destiny does not impair their exertion in handling life. What even more interesting is that
Malay people recognize the importance of sense or essence of life, for struggle is the truly heart of
life.

for human to seek for a livelihood and luck. Meanwhile, waves and coral in the sea are viewed as
obstacles to human in facing life. Sutarji Calzoum Bachri in the preface of Rose (Liamsi, 2013)

Socio Analysis Essay
The term socio analysis is a term that is used to describe the way sociologists analyzes certain traits
about an object, object being the person or persons being studied. Socio analysis is the activity of
exploration, consultancy, and action research which combines and synthesizes methodologies and
theories derived from psychoanalysis, group relations, social systems thinking, organizational
behavior, and social dreaming, (Bain). The use of socio analysis has been very beneficial to
understand society and the people that make up societies. Jane s statuses include being daughter to a
mother and a father, a sister to a brother, a girlfriend, a student at the University of Mississippi, a
church member, a friend, and a worker at a boutique on the square in Oxford, Mississippi. Ascribed

The Influence Of Food On Food
Food has acted as a huge influence on our world and has shaped both our politics and our economy
into what they have become today. The book An Edible History of Humanity , described the influence
of food on ancient civilizations and how it continued to mold politics and economics as time went on.
Parts two and three specifically described the origins of food s influence on politics and economics,
and then continued on describing how humanity began using food to expand and grow. Civilizations
in both parts took advantage of trade to gain power, and also used trade to further boost their
economies, however they went to different lengths to achieve these things so the outcomes were
varied.
Both parts feature civilizations looking to gain power through use of food. Part two speaks of the
emergence of Big Men; a man who had won the control of the food transfers and trade within the
group of people he lived with. Big Men would keep the food moving; doing favors for people with the
expectation that it would be returned down the road. The average Big Man was only in it for the
respect, because while he constantly had food and goods in his possession, they were all traded off
almost as quickly as they came in so he didn t get to keep much for himself or his family at all. More
often than not, he was worse off than his customers. As time passed, Big men evolved into Elites, who
instead of trading off all of their surpluses, they ate part of their surpluses and used the rest to

The magazine has to have good morals and ethics from employees. The ethical factors here can be
seen when Miranda makes Andy work over time as well as get her personal life involved with her
workers. Social economic issues plays an important role as this affects the employees of the business.
If there is a disease going around employees of the magazine could possibly catch the disease and so
may take off work for a while. This will decrease productivity and may also make other employees
sick if it is contagious. Employees may as well miss fellow employees and may also lack productivity
in the business. The same thing is applied to employees that get injured. This can be seen in the scene
where Emily was hit by a car and had to take off work to go to the hospital, this lowered productivity.
Technology has a huge impact on any business these days. Technology is slowly taking over and if the
magazine does not keep up with technology they may seem behind and it is important for this
magazine to stay in the trends as it is a fashion magazine. This can be seen when both Emily and Andy
are working on their computers which is showing their use of modern

Alvin Slippers During The 12th Century
Slippers are a very universal item as every culture has been found to have worn them. They are
defined as any light, low cut shoe into which the foot may be easily slipped, for casual wear in the
home, for dancing, etc. Slippers are said to be invented by a man named Alvin Slipper during the 12th
Century. During this time, a Southern Song Dynasty Officer was the first to reference the slipper.
Originally, slippers were said to be from the East. Here, slippers were used for comfort and easy
accessibility as they were easy to slip on and off. During this time, they would slip this on and off
before stepping on expensive Persian carpets. On the other hand, in the West, the earliest date of a
slipper being recorded was in the year 1478. Some cultures

  • 2. Essay Examining the Irish Republican Army Examining the Irish Republican Army Throughout history mass movements have contributed to changing the face of the world. Some most notable are that of the Bolsheviks and the Nazis. These movements and others like them have emerged as a result of the mistreatment of people, to preserve a group of people or propagate an idea or view. No matter the reason behind the start of the group, they all have one goal; the end result of every mass movement is to bring change. The mass movement that will be discussed is the Irish Republican Army, otherwise known as the IRA. The catalyst that caused its formation, a specific identification and analysis of the membership and the societal, religious, cultural, political, and national effect it had ... In fact, this goal was similar, if not the same, only worded differently to the Irish Republican Army. Beyond that, they were also established to enforce the imminent Home Rule Devolution. Act. Now, these Volunteers were formed in response to the formation of the Ulster Volunteer in 1913. The Ulster Volunteers were founded by Protestant Unionists in the north. Indeed, their goal was to stop the enactment of the Home Rule Devolution. Act. Incidentally, the Ulster Volunteers were mainly against the Irish Volunteers because they consisted of Catholics that wanted to be independent from British rule. Meanwhile, the Ulster Volunteers wanted to stay under British rule (Irish Volunteers). In brief, the Irish Volunteers exist to help keep the liberties and rights common to all people of Ireland by enforcing the Home Rule Devolution. Act that the Ulster Volunteers were fighting to abolish. However, during the events of the Easter Rising, the Irish Volunteers were forced to disband. After their end, Michael Collins and a few other remnants took up the mantle and rebranded themselves the IRA. At first glance, it would seem as though the IRA only exists because of the disbanding of the Irish Volunteers. What is more is that they were members of the Volunteers continuing on their goals. Sustainable Income and Net Income Lupita Mora Rubio Chapter 13 Questions September 10, 2012 #1 Sustainable income (SI): When companies look at present year net income to estimate future cash flows it must make sure it does not include irregular items. A network is simply a collection of machines connected in some way that allows them to communicate with each other and share information. To do this the machines have to be connected in some way that allows communication, and have an agreed upon a language to talk when they do communicate. This section provides definitions for some of the terms you ll come across. · Packets and datagrams Many networking protocols transmit information as packets. Information being sent across the network is divided into small (hundreds of bytes usually) chunks of data, called packets. The networking software at the sending end will break the outgoing data into packets. When the packets arrive at their destination the networking software on the receiving machine will put them all back together. In some cases not all the packets will arrive at the destination using the same route. The packets may also arrive out of order, packet 50 might arrive before packet 49. The networking software handles all of this. Under TCP/IP packets are often referred to as datagrams. Ethernet, on type of networking hardware,

More specifically, the time at which the Tudor family ruled England, during these times, there were deep rooted religious cleansings and ongoing witch hunts, that sought out anyone and everyone that did not follow suit. Shakespeare (1564 1616A.D.) was born in, and lived through the medical renaissance, which was the point between 1400 and 1700A.D. that innovated the medicines used in Europe. If a patient was thought to have an excess of a particular humor, measures would be taken to lessen that value, such as blood letting (sanguine), dietary changes and bodily purging. In Tudor England, the knowledge of humors and their use in medicine become widely acknowledged and accepted, and these humors impact on a person s temperament also became used. Stemming from beliefs in ancient Greece, the people in that era believed that one s general mood and state of mind was affected by the overall balance of humors in their body, if a particular humor dominated then the personality it personified would become present in the individual. Elizabethan people believed that the humors gave off vapors that traveled to the brain, causing a certain behavioral pattern to surface The humours gave off vapors which ascended to the brain; an individual s personal characteristics (physical, mental, moral) were explained by his or her temperament, or the state of that person s humours . Thus, a person with balanced humors had a balanced disposition. Too much sanguine in a person led to an optimistic and generally positive attitude, albeit an irresponsible one. Since the seventeenth century, doctors have understood that if the pustules merge into sheets across the body the victim will usually die: the virus has split the whole skin. If the victim survives, the pustules turn into scabs and fall off, leaving scars. This is known as ordinary smallpox. Some people develop extreme smallpox, which is loosely called black pox. Doctors separate black pox into two forms flat smallpox and hemorrhagic smallpox. In a case of flat smallpox, the skin remains smooth and doesn t pustulate, but it darkens until it looks charred, and it can slip off the body in sheets. In hemorrhagic smallpox, black, unclotted blood oozes or runs from the mouth and other body orifices. Black pox is close to a hundred per cent fatal. If any sign of it appears in the body, the victim will almost certainly die. In the bloody cases, the virus destroys the linings of the throat, the stomach, the intestines, the rectum, and the vagina, and these membranes disintegrate. Fatal smallpox can destroy the body s entire skin both the exterior skin and the interior skin that lines the passages of the body. Smallpox virus s scientific name is variola. • 11. Rhetorical Analysis Of A Hanging In A Hanging, George Orwell utilizes the rhetorical appeals of pathos and ethos in historical context to convince the audience that the unjustifiable execution of a person is not only barbaric, but unethical. This is successful because of his sensitive word choice and sympathetic tone. Through his cleaver use of language techniques and word selection, Orwell evokes the reader s sympathy for the prisoner s struggles. He repeatedly shows that the prisoners are treated like animals. In the opening lines of the essay, the setting is described immediately highlights the inhumane conditions in which the prisoners are contained in. We notice this when the author is describing the cells, he states, we are waiting outside the condemned cells, row of sheds fronted with double bars, like small animal cages (Orwell 93). It is evident again when he is describing the way it took six guards to escort the prisoner. He says it was like men handling a fish which is still alive and may jump out of the water (Orwell 94). The sprouting moustache, absurdly too big for his body (Orwell 93), and a puny wisp of a man (Orwell 93) suggests malnourishment and neglect among this prisoner, but the reader can infer that this treatment is spread out amongst all the prisoners. In contrast with this sickly man, he describes the prison guards as tall Indian warriors (Orwell 93) and even describes one guard in particular as a fat Dravidian (Orwell 94). The details of these well fed men in comparison to this ill man fuels a feeling of sympathy towards the prisoner. He provides these details to evoke sympathy for the prisoner to prove that killing a man is unethical. Through the appeal of pathos, we can empathize with George Orwell. Orwell never states in the essay as to why the Hindu man was to be hanged. He does not want the reader to form an opinion on whether or not the prisoner should be executed or not. Instead, he builds his essay in a way in which he directs us to a path that only argues that taking a life is wrong, no matter the crime. When he says till that moment, I had never realized what it means to destroy a healthy conscious man (Orwell 95), the reader is able to empathize with him. Before he says this, the reader ... Looking back on the discussion now, I can still say that the opinion I held prior still stands as it was. I greatly appreciated, however, the new perspectives that were brought to my attention through the discussion I arbitrated. The discussion that was facilitated throughout my SLT was interesting and intelligent, if not a tad too idealistic for my liking. Some points contention recurred throughout the seminar s small group discussion, spurring meaningful debate within the group. One of these was the idea of a balance between integration and assimilation in a society. We discussed the difficulties of culture clashes; the divide between the values of ... • 15. Importance Of High School Football Being a high school football player is difficult at times, but student athletes can make this very easy if they want it to be. I played high school football all four years, and it was easy to me because I played with my teammates in middle school too. Because of that, my team trusted each other and depended on each other during the game of football. My football team was on its way to a state championship because we came together, did our assignments in the game and worked hard everyday in practice. Coming together was very easy for us since we played on the middle school team. We had spring and summer workouts and practices every year. During the spring, we got together and tuned in our plays that we ran from the previous year. During the summer the team had to spend the night in the gym and wake up at five o clock in the morning to get ready for practice. The team got to spend even more time together, and spending the night in the gym made us come together more. I was quarterback, so I was the leader of the team, so the had to look up to me. I was already friends with everyone on the team, so I knew I had their trust. I still had to do my job though. I had to make every hand off and throw count. As quarterback, I spent my time with the receivers a lot. Throwing down the field to the receiver for the first time that year was spot on. When he caught the ball; I ran down the field and celebrated with him after he scored. Have you ever wondered how much pressure you would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. My First Encounter With Pulleys Let s talk about pulleys today! I have some pulleys here. Will anyone assemble them? My high school physics teacher looked around our classroom. I raised my hand, walked to the front of the classroom and took up a pulley. Bending down, I concentrated hard on the system in front of me. This scene brought me back to my first encounter with pulleys in the science center years ago. A voice echoed in my mind loudly and clearly: Don t be obsessed and carry on! The story of that day started to unfold before my eyes. As I walked into the City Science Center, I found the very place which had appeared in my dream hundreds of times: a large interactive science area. As I had always expected, the science center included not only topics I was curious about, but also topics of which I had never heard. For a seven year old, there was a lot to explore and I remember myself wishing I could try them all at once. In spite of its potential to address relevant research questions, few published action research based articles exist within the field of supply chain management (Näslund 2002). In fact, these studies are so rare that they almost constitute the White Space of research in the field (Frankel and Näslund 2005). One reason for this reluctance to adopt AR can be attributed to the lack of rigor in some of the previously published works. Alvesson (1996, p.456) wrote ...much qualitative research is as superficial as questionnaire studies. Case research has, unfortunately, been used as an excuse for industrial tourism visiting lots of organisations without any pre conceived ideas as to what is being researched (Voss, Tsikriktsis, and Frohlich 2002, p.196). Similarly, a criticism of AR is that it more resembles consulting versus rigorous research; that is, consulting masquerading as research (Coughlan and Coghlan 2002, p.237). Naturally, being applied and relevant cannot and should not be an excuse for doing research that is not rigorous. Accordingly, when a rigorous methodology is adopted, AR can provide significant research contributions for both practice and academia. With the belief that rigor and relevance are essential ... Public policy in mobilizing financial resources for agricultural development has not been very effective for a number of reasons. First, there have been no consistent and effective policies to make private investment in agriculture more attractive due to persistently low productivity. While this has not induced the necessary industrial growth in the sector to create larger markets for farm output, it has also curtailed free flow of funds from the private sector. As a result, the bulk of the investment in agriculture has been from state resources. The great development of film technology and those countless creative ideas put most of the Americans into a feeding frenzy. However, the golden age of Hollywood experienced the impact of World War II, which led to the significant changes in film industry. At the beginning of 1960s, European film industry gradually moved its focus to creativity and aesthetics, and the auteur theory gained more and more attention. To follow Starkweather s action, Kit also kills three bounty hunters, his friend Cato and an innocent teenage couple who just arrive to visit Cato. It seems that killing people is his way to solve problems. Compared to Badlands, Kit s idol Jim Stark still shows sympathy to his best friend Plato, and tries to protect Plato until the end. The title Rebel without a cause may be even more suitable to describe Kit s action that the film does not set a clear conflict between him and the real world. • 41. A Literary Analysis Of Esperanza Rising By Pam Muñoz Ryan Literary Analysis of Esperanza Rising To foreshadow events in books or to tell the meaning of a story, authors often use symbolism. Symbolism uses people, places, or things that have their own meaning, to express something different. The author of Esperanza Rising, Pam Muñoz Ryan, uses a certain fruit or vegetable to symbolize events of emotions that occur in the chapter. Three chapters in Esperanza Rising that represent an important part of the book are Los Higos, Las Cebollas, and Los Aquacates. In Esperanza Rising, figs, onions, and avocados symbolize a new beginning, the acceptance of starting anew, and the rewards followed after hardship. Los Higos, or figs, represent a new beginning, because of Esperanza s journey through the fig orchard. Mama and Esperanza execute their plan, in which they leave under the cover of darkness for California. • 42. Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Review: Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people over the age of 50. Every ten years after the age of 50 the prevalence of this disease increases exponentially. Many different factors contribute to the development of AMD including genetic, environment, and metabolic functions. Aside from smoking, abnormal blood pressure, and an unhealthy diet low in fruits and vegetables, many more studies are concluding that similar inflammatory and oxidative processes seen in other age related diseases are also playing a key role in the development of AMD. This disease affects the central areas of the retina and choroid. In return central vision is impaired while peripheral vision is usually not lost. AMD is seen in two different forms, the earlier nonneovascular (dry) type and the more advanced neovascular (wet) type. Each form has its own specific pathology and unique characteristics that set them apart. Fatty, protein deposits called drusens may be the key risk factor in understanding dry AMD pathology, progression, and treatment. Once the more advanced wet AMD is diagnosed, pathology and treatment are targeted around the formation and destruction of abnormal blood vessels, characteristic of the wet AMD eye. The increasing prevalence of AMD has influenced more investigation into what factors can be modulated to prevent the onset or to stop the progression of AMD. This text will discuss the pathology of drusens and the role of inflammation and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
