1. Original Brief
Tony Mutombo
My partner and I have been set the challenge of creating a promotional campaign to
advertise a new film. This promotional package has got to include three pieces of media that
must all share a symbiotic link in order to maintain professionalism and maximize
effectiveness. These three pieces have got to be: a promotional trailer, a film poster and a
film magazine front cover.
The promotional package will advertise a film within the horror genre. My partner and I
have made this choice for a number of key reasons. Firstly, it is quite simply, a genre that we
both enjoy watching; we enjoy the adrenaline rush that its movies release and are quite
frankly huge horror fans. Secondly, horror films are also popular within the teenage target
audience, and due to us both belonging to that audience category we believe that we would
have an advantage when it comes to relating to and appealing to this audience. Thirdly, and
most importantly, we are fascinated by the effect and influence that horror films can have
on and over their audiences and want to experiment with achieving these ourselves.
We will appeal to our audience by producing three pieces that follow the conventions of the
horror genre and of their respective forms, but that have a touch of originality. An
exploration and analysis of existing media texts will allow us to recognise and become
familiar with these conventions and to see the potential for growth and change.
We are looking forward to working together on this project to produce a chilling,
professional and effective promotional package. My associate for this project is Ellisabeth
Fryer.
