3. Aim:- To calculate the given Orifice meter & hence calculate its
coefficient of discharge .
Apparatus Used
•Pipe setup
•Collecting Tank
•Orifice meter
•Piezometer
•Stopwatch
Experiment no - 06 Date – 22/09/2015
4. Theory :
•It works on Bernoulli’s principle and device use for measuring the rate of fluid
flowing through a pipe.
•It is a cheaper device as compared to venturimeter.
• It consists of flat circular plate which has a circular sharp edge hole called as
orifice ,which is concentric with pipe.
•The orifice diameter is generally kept ½ lines the diameter of pipe.

Manometer reading collecting tank
Procedure
1.Measure the diameter of the orifice and calculate area
2.Note down dimensions of the collecting tank
3.By operating the inlet valve maintain the constant head of water in measuring tank
4.Note down the time required to collect constant head of water in measuring tank
5.By using measuring scale measure the X- Coordinate from vena contract section
6.Repeat the above process for different head over the orifice.
