2. OPTOMETRY AND OPTOMETRIST
+ Optometry come from Greek language which is composed of two words opsis i.e view and metron i.e something used to
measure.
+ The World Council Of Optometry, World Health Organization and other optometry organization defines OPTOMETRY and
OPTOMETRIST as a health care profession that is autonomous, educated and regulated(licensed/registered) and optometrists
are the primary healthcare practitioner of the eye and the visual system who provide comprehensive eye and vision care which
includes refraction and dispensing, diagnosis/detection and management of disease in the eye and rehabilitation of condition of
the visual system.
3. EYE RELATED PROFESSIONS
+ OPTICIAN: A technical practitioner who designs, fits and dispense lenses for the correction of person’s vision.
+ OPTOMETRIST: A health care profession that involves examining the eyes and applicable visual system for defects or
abnormalities as well as prescribing the correction for refractive error with glasses or contact lenses and treatment of the
diseases.
+ OPHTHALMOLOGIST: A branch of medicine and surgery which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of the eye disorder.
4. OPTOMETRY
+ Deals with refraction errors, ocular disease managements, medical therapeutics, binocular vision, sport vision, vision therapy,
contact lens .
ELIGIBILITY:
After +2/PUC with science for BSc.optometry
5. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN OPTOMETRY(B.SC OPTOMETRY)
Is 4 year course which includes 3 years of theory classes and 1 year of practice.
