24 partner provenienti da tutta Europa, a rappresentare le più innovative aziende operanti nel settore Automotive, fra le quali Pininfarina nella veste di coordinatore tecnico, oltre a molte prestigiose università, come il capofila Aalborg Universitet, hanno lavorato insieme per 48 mesi con l’obiettivo di vincere una sfida ambiziosa: dimostrare la sostenibilità della fattibilità di una city car elettrica di soli 600kg di peso, strutturalmente prestazionale e ad alto grado di riciclabilità, per medi volumi di produzione (30,000 unità/anno).
Obiettivo raggiunto e sfida vinta: il punto di partenza per il progetto Evolution è stato il concept Pininfarina Nido, prevalentemente realizzato in profili commerciali e pezzi stampati in alluminio, del peso di circa 850 kg; il punto di arrivo è stato un archetipo innovativo di veicolo, fortemente ottimizzato in termini di peso vs performance pienamente in linea con il target di peso ed estremamente interessante dal punto di vista della fattibilità tecnico-economica, focalizzata su cinque sottosistemi innovativi, i dimostratori (pianale, puntone anteriore, traversa paraurti anteriore, porta, traversa sospensione anteriore).
L’approccio progettuale seguito ha considerato come variabili di progetto i materiali, le scelte ingegneristiche e le tecnologie di processo: il risultato è stato una nuova struttura, rinforzata solo dove necessario, nella quale i materiali sono stati studiati ad hoc per la specifica applicazione e per le tecnologie di produzione proposte/sviluppate contestualmente.
L’intero sviluppo è stato guidato dalle analisi numeriche (CAE) e verificato sperimentalmente.
Oltre ai dimostratori, importanti risultati sono stati ottenuti anche nell’ambito delle tecnologie di giunzione multi-materiale (adesivi strutturali) e per quanto riguarda gli aspetti di smontaggio/riuso/riciclo dei nuovi materiali.
Il progetto si è concluso con successo lo scorso ottobre con la presentazione del dimostratore tecnologico alla Commissione Europea.

Identifying some criteria to generalize the results of a research project on the Circular Economy on a European scale requires a broader competence on products end of life products combined with an ability to predict which will be the most relevant trend lines that will influence the technologies and economic dynamics of products end of life in the coming years.
This deliverable highlights that there various types of criteria: some are of a general nature, cross-cutting and allow the project to be strengthened in terms of its European value, while others are more specific and expendable on the three specific value chains that, by integrating them, have surely more chances to be recognized and appreciated in European terms.
The work is not limited to a mere statement of general criteria, but also provides some examples and operating suggestions for the transformation of these European criteria for valid operational suggestions for future activities of CarE-Service project.

First call for new Fortissimo 2 application experiments. This call for proposals targets the augmentation of the application experiments currently being carried out within Fortissimo 2 and Fortissimo focusing on modelling and simulation of coupled phenomena and high-performance data analytics and in all cases targeting benefits for engineering and manufacturing SMEs and mid-caps.
Priority will be given to experiments driven by the requirements of first-time HPC users. Experiments should develop clear exploitation paths ensuring business impact and wider subsequent use of the services and technologies developed. They should also investigate service deployment in the Fortissimo marketplace.

Through a comparative analysis approach and eight weeks of data collection, the study addressed key research questions related to solar radiation patterns and optimal system design. The findings highlighted regions with heightened solar radiation levels, showcasing substantial potential for power generation and emphasizing the system's efficiency. Optimizing system design significantly boosted power generation, promoted renewable energy utilization, and enhanced energy storage capacity. The study underscored the benefits of optimizing hybrid solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems for sustainable energy usage. Optimizing the design of solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems as examined across diverse climatic conditions in a developing country, not only enhances power generation but also improves the integration of renewable energy sources and boosts energy storage capacities, particularly beneficial for less economically prosperous regions. Another relevant scope of the project for Texas Controls, have to do with the deep study of the tensional field in flanges. As we mentioned before,, given by the Engineering Codes. But due to the physical fact that Higher loads are necessary to get residual loads when, risky situations for the components, always happens during the tightening. It is very common in “on site” situations when a flange is leaking, to increase a lot the load applied, producing hidden damages in grooves and bolts. Most of the times, the better solution is to optimize the tightening procedure.
Typical failure of flanges are due fatigue situations when high stress are located in the groves where metallic gaskets are compressed. If high temperatures are involved, then Stress corrosion cracking appears.
So it is necessary to determine the minimum applied load to achieve the maximum sealing force, with no damages of grooves and bolts.

Their design is conceptually simple, but their operation is complex. Consequently the design of such chimneys requires significant modelling of the flow of gases through the chimney geometry. DINAK needs a suitable tool for this design process. In this Case Study, a “black box” solution will be implemented which will enable DINAK to design new chimneys. This tool will be made available to DINAK via a Cloud-based-HPC environment on a pay-per-use basis.
The state-of-the-art requires the use of 3-D optical methods in assuring the dimensional quality of high-fidelity components.

The main outcome of StamHPC will be new HPC-cloud-based software, allowing the metal stamping industry to simulate sheet-metal forming easily, bringing results from a remote Cloud-based-HPC system to the desktop.
517 Cloud-based optimisation in the cutting of steel reinforcements
Schnell Software is a Spanish SME which develops and markets the Optimo simulation software which optimises the cutting of steel reinforcing bars used in construction. The current state-of-the-art enables solutions to be found using desktop systems. However, these take a long time to generate. There is a clear need for faster solutions which can be realised using a Cloud-based-HPC approach. In this Case Study, a service will be developed based on the Optimo code running on a Cloud-based-HPC system which Schnell will make available to its customers on a pay-per-use basis.
