Duke University is holding open enrollment for employee benefits from October 28th to November 8th, 2013. Currently, Duke provides coverage for 62,300 lives at a total cost of $246 million, with costs lower than the national average. Premium increases for 2014 will again be less than projected national increases. While most plans have no changes to deductibles or copays, the tobacco surcharge will increase to $20 per month and bariatric surgery copays will be reduced. Coverage is also being added for transgender surgery and injuries to teeth. Reimbursement accounts allow pre-tax savings on eligible medical and dependent care expenses. Open enrollment meetings and information will provide details on benefit plan changes for 2014.
