Oil and Petroleum provides transhipping, storage, distribution and marketing of petroleum products in Africa. It was incorporated in 1998 and has 18 employees. It has a fleet of tankers and trucks to transport fuel from refineries to storage depots and deliver to customers. Oil and Petroleum prides itself on health, safety and environmental standards as well as excellent customer service. Its goals are to protect health, safety, the environment and meet customer requirements. It aims to achieve this through training, policies, audits, investigations and continuous improvement.

and marketing of petroleum products in Africa to all sectors in the
industry.

2. Background
o The company was incorporated in 1998 and has successfully been
transhipping fuel (grades of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin) from
Durban to a number of destinations for various suppliers.
o Fuel is stored in South Africa and sold to a variety of customers in a
widespread distribution area.
o Oil and Petroleum pride themselves in service excellence, continuously
meeting customer needs in a highly competitive environment. Our
strategies and action plans are developed to always achieve this objective
in a cost effective manner.
o All employees are trained to meet the requirements of our suppliers and
those of our customers and especially HSE requirements.
o Local deliveries are also currently done on an ad hock basis.

consumers in the northern areas of South Africa

View Durban, Mosgas Mosselbaai Total Bethlehem and Sasol supported
by a mobile mechanical team.
o We are registered as a carrier in Africa. The drivers and supporting staff
are fully trained and comply with South African standards.

undertaken and recorded to ensure continual improvement to meet both
our and our suppliers requirements

7. 7. Technical Information
Customer Service:
o Oil and Petroleum is experienced in distributing petroleum products
and has a very good track record of excellent customer service and
has positioned itself as professional transporter in the following:
Transporting large loads of fuel from refineries to inland
storage depots
Has dedicated approved vehicles to ensure quick and efficient
delivery service
Drivers are fully trained in HSE issues and operate in
compliance with all Road Traffic Acts in South Africa.
Senior management are always available to communicate and
advise of any problems
Communication lines are effective
Oil and Petroleum has an impressive HSE record
Very good staff and union relations with small team thus
minimising strike problems
Participate with security firm to manage criminal activities
8. 8. Health, Safety and Environment
o The detail of our HSE policy is communicated through the line by
holding regular meetings and training seminars
o The management team consists of the managing director, financial
manager, operations and HSE manager
o The HSE policy is displayed in all buildings and communicated
regularly at staff meetings
o The operations and HSE manager is the custodian of the safety policy
and adherence to performance of the company and reports to the
managing director.
This responsibility is delegated to the Operations and HSE
manager
The Operations and HSE manager in turn gets all staff
through the line in the various operations to sign off and
accept responsibility for his area of influence
Training is undertaken for all new staff while a quarterly
training programme is undertaken as part of our HSE policy
The monthly incident report is circulated to all staff and if
necessary corrective action and training is done
Any incident is fully investigated and relevant staff form part
of the investigation team and this serves as a training
programme
Quarterly audits are completed and senior managers
participate in these. These audits include ensuring all
regulatory notices and certificates are displayed, inspection of
storage facilities, inspection of vehicles and testing
understanding of staff responsibilities through the line. The
purpose of these is to measure success of training and to
verify existing programmes
Emergency phone numbers are available to all staff and a
team is on standby to visit and handle any situation regarding
a mobile vehicle or storage facility. Access to emergency
services is available through regular communication with
such bodies. The managing director is directly involved in
assisting and communicating action to minimise any incident.
9. Any incidents are investigated and tested against our HSE
plan and the reasons analysed for non-compliance and if not
covered in plan, the HSE plan is amended and respective staff
are trained to eliminate this happening again.
9. Driver Selection
Drivers are selected on the following basis:
Legality of license
Experience in driving heavy duty vehicles
Accident and incident record
Any endorsements on record
Qualifications
Health
Lifestyle and drug/drinking habits
Attitudes and especially towards safety
Attendance of advanced driving courses and training
All drivers are fully trained to qualify for the Haz-mat permit
