Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.

2. Our Mission
Our mission is to recreate electrical drawings using the latest drawing software to ensure compliance with industry drawing standards and to
ensure plant personnel stay safe in their workplace.
Our main aim is to simplify our customers’ existing drawings, making them more legible and add value to them, which has proven to enhance
other areas of their business, resulting in huge cost savings.
The cost savings, allow periodic maintenance programs to be re-aligned and
previously assigned budgets given a greater degree of flexibility than before.
We take great pride in providing a service which isn't full of hidden overhead costs,
which some of the bigger service companies have woven in as part of their overall
package.
Our flexible approach has seen us being awarded small - large projects across a
variety of industries.
3. The Challenge
Industry as a whole, has an underlying challenge, in maintaining its existing 2D drawings & associated documentation to modern standards using
the latest electronic drawing packages.
The Management of Change process, which is a fundamental part of ISO 9001 should ensure that As-Built drawings are maintained for the life of
the plant.
In theory, an As-Build drawing that is completed, should be handed back to the custodian
as part of the last stage in the design cycle and then used for going forward for maintenance
and for facility management.
In practice, this is never fully realised as equipment is switched on and As-Build drawings
are forgotten about and never fully completed in time or ultimately never completed full-stop.
It is widely appreciated that complex or simple systems can be difficult to read, cross
reference and interpret, resulting in a task which is often more time consuming and difficult
than it should be.
System drawings can be simplified, making them far easier to use and reflect the equipment & plant more accurately. As a result, existing
drawing & document numbering philosophies will evolve as well.
4. The ODAES Philosophy & Solution
Through the analysis of a full suite of existing drawing packages, we can apply a consistent approach in accordance with ISO 9001, building in
efficiency and simplicity through a system package consolidation, which for the entire plant a full rationalisation is achieved.
Value through the fundamental application of ISO 9001:
A consistent, logical & simplified suite of plant drawings that are easier to understand
Provides management with monitoring tools for their plant.
Value through a consolidated approach:
More effective interpretation through an improved and compressed approach, consolidating system information to allow a more
professional package of plant data through the use of 2D or 3D portrayal techniques.
Value through enhanced maintenance records & reduced maintenance requirements:
Overhaul the current maintenance register to reflect the enhanced plant drawings.
Maintenance now performed on equipment that is in use instead of maintaining all of the plant, due to a chronicled drawing still in
circulation on the maintenance databases.
Reactive maintenance minimised as a direct output of maintenance becoming anticipated and plant shutdown’s properly planned &
budgeted for through the use of an operations management system by Arnlea.
5. The ODAES Philosophy & Solution
Value of As-Building through Reverse Engineering/Decommissioning:
Decommissioning of unused equipment/systems and removing them from service without completely removing them and a drawing to
reflect this change, and all recorded via the Management of Change process.
Labelling a piece of equipment ‘Decommissioned’ that is not in use, allows savings to be made on maintenance routines. Furthermore,
should that system be required in the future, the infrastructure is still in place with a simple amendment to the asset register being fulfilled.
Existing plant infrastructure can be re-used to service the decommissioning activities and work scopes without the need for an additional
Accommodation Support Vessel, to provide this support function.
Value through Asset Operational Efficiency:
Utilisation of the full potential of a 3D model centralises and brings finger on the pulse control of the asset through its lifespan, to
consolidate & control the existing plant databases (see below) through an intelligent monitoring & communication system by Arnlea.
Plant Register
Ex Register
Hazardous Area Register
Routine Maintenance Register
Full suite of 2D technical drawings
This system, that not only delivers optimum efficiency, but enforces maximum cost savings through efficient control and optimum safety through
the life of the asset until the decommissioning phase is complete.
By offering a complete solution through our As-building approach, our clients receive real value in that the plant is left in the way in which we
would expect to find it, and is easier to maintain for going forwards.
6. Previous Projects
Trace Heating System
An example of the Value through a consolidated approach & Value through enhanced maintenance records &
reduced maintenance requirements processes being applied, was where ODAES had been asked by one of their clients to investigate a
particular system as a whole, on a North Sea asset for them as part of a Safety Case.
As part of the investigation an initial data gathering exercise was completed onshore, followed by a detailed survey offshore of the system.
That system information was consolidated and made more legible to all users of that system through use of a 2D drawing package.
This is where Value through a consolidated approach was used.
The drawings for that system showed equipment portrayed as being still in use, yet as part of the investigation this equipment was redundant and
no longer in operation. By labelling the equipment as being decommissioned and removing power from them, this equipment for that system now
no longer requires maintenance, which ultimately saves time and resources over the life of the plant.
This is where Value through enhanced maintenance records & reduced maintenance requirements was used.
The ODAES solution provided savings up to £400k over the life of the plant for that particular system.
However only half of the system was ever completed for this client.
That system only accounts for 1 of 200 systems for that plant and a complete system change equates to 0.5% of the plant.
Using the same formula, 99.5% of the plant still has the potential for further savings through The ODAES philosophy & solutions where greater
savings can still be achieved.
