Gleanings from Ruth_ When Responsibility KnocksStephen Palm
Most people answer the door when opportunity knocks. But many shrink away when responsibility knocks. Yet, it is in answering the door to responsibility that we pave the way for many of God's richest blessings. In Ruth 4 we will see two men, Mr. "So and So", a nameless man who wants opportunity without responsibility, and Boaz, a man willing to shoulder responsibility for Ruth and Naomi. We will also see how God exceeds Naomi's expectations. She will find that God is Almighty, but that He is also loving and gracious, providing her and all humanity with a kinsman redeemer.

A. You don’t have to believe in predestination to predict who will most likely succeed. If we properly define “success”, there is no way one can be a failure if the following things are done.
If you are a child of God and you are willing to do the following things then it will help to assure your success.
Why did Jesus establish the church? What is the purpose of our being together in one family and working in His kingdom? The church is to glorify God, save sinners, enlighten the world and bring joy to the world.

It's easy to criticize the Israelites for worshipping the golden calf while Moses was on the mountain. But what about our Golden Calves? Those things we return too when the going gets tough; those things that make the flesh feel comfortable.

26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
Proverbs 29:7New International Version
7 The righteous care about justice for the poor,
but the wicked have no such concern.
Malachi 3:6-12New International VersionBreaking Covenant by Withholding Tithes
6 “I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. 7 Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty.
“But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’
8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me.
“But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’
“In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.
Matthew 6New International VersionGiving to the Needy
6 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.Prayer
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Fa ...

2 Corinthians 5: 1 For we know that if the
tent that is our earthly home is destroyed,
we have a building from God ….
7. 2 Corinthians 5
• 4 While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan
and sigh
• 1 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is
destroyed ….
• Mark 8:34, Jesus said: “If anyone would come
after Me, let him deny himself and take up his
cross and follow Me”
8. We know that if the tent that is our
earthly home is destroyed.
9. John 14:2 In My Father’s house are many
mansions; if it were not so, I would have
told you. I go to prepare a place for you..
10. 2 Cor 5:8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away
from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So we make it
our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body
or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the
so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things
done while in the body, whether
good or bad.
11. • Hebrews 4:13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s

of Him to whom we must give account.
• Romans 14:12 So then, each of us will give an account of
ourselves to God.
• Matthew 12:36 I tell you, on the Day of Judgment people
will give account for every careless word they speak
12. • To the servants who were faithful and put their talents to

servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will
put you in charge of many things. Come and share your
master’s happiness!’ (Matthew 25:21, 23)

10 …. each one should build with care. 11 For no one can
lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which
is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation
using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,
13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the
Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire,
and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.
14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive
a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss
but yet will be saved - even though only as one escaping
through the flames.
14. 2 Cor 5:8 9 So we make it our goal to please Him,
whether we are at home in the body or away from
it. 10 For we must all appear before the
so that each of us may receive what is due us for the
things done while in the body, whether
good or bad.
15. What are we to do while here on earth?
• Matthew 5:13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt
loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no
longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and
trampled underfoot
• 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill
cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and
put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and
it gives light to everyone in the house.16 In the same way,
let your light shine before others, that they may see your
good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven”
16. What are we to do while here on earth?
• Matthew 5:43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love
your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you,
love your enemies and pray for those who persecute
you,45 that you may be children of your Father in
heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the
good, and sends rain on the righteous and the
unrighteous.46 If you love those who love you, what
reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors
doing that? 47And if you greet only your own people,
what are you doing more than others? Do not even
pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly
Father is perfect.
17. What are we to do while here on earth?
• Matthew 6:1 “Be careful not to practice your
righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If
you do, you will have no reward from your Father in
heaven”
• Matthew 28: 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All
authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.19
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit,20 and teaching them to obey everything I
have commanded you. And surely I am with you always,
to the very end of the age.”
