2. 12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your
country, your people and your father’s
household to the land I will show you. 2 “I will
make you into a great nation, and I will bless
you; I will make your name great, and you will
be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless
you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and
all peoples on earth will be blessed through
you.”

3. They said to Moses, “Was it because there
were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to
the desert to die? What have you done to us
by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn’t we say to
you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the
Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to
serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”

4. That night all the members of the community
raised their voices and wept aloud. All the
Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron,
and the whole assembly said to them, “If only
we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness!
Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to
let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children
will be taken as plunder. Wouldn’t it be better
for us to go back to Egypt?”

people treat me with contempt? How long will
they refuse to believe in me, in spite of all the
signs I have performed among them? I will
strike them down with a plague and destroy
them, but I will make you into a nation greater
and stronger than they.”

6. The Lord replied, “I have forgiven them, as you
asked. Nevertheless, as surely as I live and as
surely as the glory of the Lord fills the whole
earth, not one of those who saw my glory and
the signs I performed in Egypt and in the
wilderness but who disobeyed me and tested
me ten times— not one of them will ever see
the land I promised on oath to their ancestors.
No one who has treated me with contempt will
ever see it.

7. 17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord,
that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do,
in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are
darkened in their understanding and separated
from the life of God because of the ignorance
that is in them due to the hardening of their

given themselves over to sensuality so as to
indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are
full of greed.

learned 21 when you heard about Christ and
were taught in him in accordance with the truth
that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard
to your former way of life, to put off your old
self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful

your minds; 24 and to put on the new self,
created to be like God in true righteousness and
holiness.

9. 25 Therefore each of you must put off
falsehood and speak truthfully to your
neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
26 “In your anger do not sin”[d]: Do not let the
sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do
not give the devil a foothold. 28 Anyone who
has been stealing must steal no longer, but
must work, doing something useful with their
own hands, that they may have something to
share with those in need.

10. 29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out
of your mouths, but only what is helpful for
building others up according to their needs,
that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do
not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom
you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger,
brawling and slander, along with every form of
malice.
